After 9 painful months of using an HTC 8X windows phone (the pain was in the OS, not the phone) I was ready to get a new android phone. Finally there were new releases and picked up a moto x. While I like the phone and availability of apps I was missing, the signal quality is no where near that of the HTC 8X. This is both in phone call quality and 4G data reception.
So, has anyone else noticed this, or experiencing similar symptoms?

My reception has been better on this phone than all of my previous ones. That includes literally every flagship that Sprint and AT&T have had since the HTC Hero. Motorola is famous for their radio quality. Not sure what's going on in your case but I know the vast majority of Moto X owners are quite pleased with it in this regard.

I have a Verizon Moto X and while in use, the reception is fine, I'm wondering how they decide to show their bars. I've NEVER seen this thing have a full 5 bars. I can be 3 feet from my network extender, and its 2 bars. It works fine, voice is clear, LTE with 3-4 bars is in the 30mbit range, but it has never hit 5 bars.
Ok,
So I've searched through this entire QA section and have yet to find a thread related to my question so I'm going to ask.
I recently (as in like monday 05/05/14) updated to KitKat on my Sprint Flex and noticed that my LTE wont kick on...I update my profile and PRL and it will kick on for a split second go grey (gray?) and then go back to 3G. I'm curious, has anyone else encountered this issue or could this be a simple single issue I'm the only on experiencing?
mind you, YES I do live in an LTE enabled area (no Spark ) and my old HTC EVO 4G LTE gets service just fine as does my wife's EVO LTE but my Flex just wont kick it on anymore. I even tried resetting the radio with no luck. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be very appreciative!
Other than this little hiccup, along with the KB issue, this phone is saweet!
How was your service before the kit kat update? FYI you should head over to the S4GRU forums. You will find better sprint support there. Its not a corporate sprint site, its a community of sprint customers that have lots of knowledge of the network.

I'm convinced that Sprint doesn't want people on their LTE network. They recently started throttling their unlimited customers data once they use over 5Gb. I used a Sprint phone for a short period of time before our company switched to AT&T, and that phone would disconnect from the tower it was using whenever the phone would go idle. I would try to use the internet and it would say "no connection", but the second I made a phone call on it the connection would re-establish. It's all very strange.

I left Sprint last year for identical reasons. As T-Mobile was the only other carrier to offer unlimited data without hidden throttle points. I had to pay the eta but it was well worth it. Sprint may be better out in the sticks because they have roaming agreements with Verizon but if you live in an urban area you will be ok.
My 4G LTE was badass before the update to KK. I'm very familiar with S4GRU forums. My service has always been great with Sprint, so that's not the issue, I was simply curious if this is simply an isolated incident or if this is becoming a known issue..I'm content with Sprint. I'll have to look at the other forums to see if I'm the only one having issues..

I had an issue when at my home recently with service. Since the g flex will not connect to data when on a phone call, i noticed that my service would go to nothing or 1 bar. I contacted sprint, and they told me that the 3g portion of the tower was out that i connect to when at home. They said it would be fixed by the end of the day. My advice is to contact sprint. Maybe they can shed some light on the subject. Try to contact them through the chat on the website. They seem more knowledgeable on there.

There is only one cell radio on the newer phones so no SVDO/SVLTE no voice/data. Wifi is separate so wifi data will still work.

OK.
so after I posted this thread i started checking the towers around me and found out i was not the only person reporting issues about this. apparently sprint is secretly updating the towers in Amarillo for spark. this didnt come from some idiot rep at the call center either, this i found out on my own. I verified it this morning and some areas in town my little sun lights up and my speeds are ranging from 15-25mb/s depending on the area of town im in.
I also got a phone call from a friend of mine in Austin because his iFag 5s wasnt able to connect to the interwebs even though he showed LTE to be active. they appear to be updating towers continuously in certina areas. thanks for the info on some of ya'lls part! i guess i just wasnt patient enough and jumped to the conclusion of KK breakin something in my phone.
Wow I am not a happy camper reading this http://phandroid.com/2014/09/20/verizon-moto-x-launch-without-simultaneous-voice-data/ can anyone else confirm this is in fact the case?
Does it only have one radio that does CDMA and LTE, rather than two separate ones or something? I was so hopeful to get a Moto X, unlike most people I do a lot of calling & relaying data, making appointments, etc on the phone. I've been struggling with my Galaxy S3 reception for the past 2 years I was hoping Motorola legendary reception would be my salvation but it's looking like that might not be the case. Right now with my GS3 I get 1bar of LTE, if I go downstairs I get 2 bars of 3G. I know Samsung receptions blows chunks but would Moto be that much better to hold on to LTE? IT seems like basically if I want MOTO X I have to live without simultaneous voice/data or update to advance calling 1.0 and risk having important calls drop if I go from LTE to 3G. Say can anyone here recommend another phone that has good reception reviewers don't seem to measure that spec anymore. Thanks
Here is from Verizon's Advanced Calling 1.0 FAQ.
Will my call be handed off automatically when I move from the 3G network to the 4G LTE network and vice versa with Advanced Calling 1.0?
No, calls won’t switch between 3G and 4G LTE networks. If your call starts on the 3G network and you move to a 4G LTE coverage area, your call will continue as a 3G/CDMA call. However, if your call starts on the 4G LTE network and you move to a non-4G coverage area, your call will drop.

All the article is saying is phones will have a software update to make it work. It won't be included from the start. That is for all phones on their network currently. Plus, the FAQ that you read, I bet that's for all phones as well

I think you missed the point. It says that the 2014 X did its antenna(s) differently such that you NEED VoLTE to be able to have simultaneous voice and data. Plus VoLTE only works on LTE, so it seems to imply that you can't have simultaneous voice/data on 3g. Plus OP is concerned about dropped calls when losing 4G coverage

I see... How strange, but I'm on T-Mobile so I don't think I'll have that problem
But the way Motorola did the antenna is just making it on the outside of the phone right? iPhone did that, so it should be ok?
edit: the article is a bit confusing imo. and here's quote from the article:
The new Moto X isn’t being singled out here, this change and requirement will be coming to future Verizon phones as well.

I think it's unacceptable that in 2014 in order to "take advantage" of simultaneous voice and data you have to run the potential risk of dropped calls and/or potential call audio quality! And Verizon's suggestion to avoid dropped calls?? Turn off advance calling, but oh, don't forget to switch it back on to take advantage of video chatting!! That is a ridiculous "solution"!!!
I'm not a huge user of simultaneous voice and data, so simply turning off the advance calling feature is a possibility for me. But I think this is going to affect a lot of folks and ruin their user experience with the X! Hopefully folks are well informed about this prior to their purchase or they figure it out before their 14 day exchange period expires! But I can see the Verizon reps now telling people complaining about no simultaneous voice and data "Oh, an update will soon fix that" and "failing" to mention the potential woes that Advanced Calling 1.0 pose

Once I realized there is no LTE to 3G handoff I am getting really worried. I bounce between LTE and 3G all the time on my moto x and note 3 around where I live.
On Verizon choose either voice+data, or no dropped calls. Maybe it's time to choose AT&T.
Well I just bought an OG Moto X off eBay just tide me over for a year. That way I can evaluate the reception & see what direction I want to go. If I get good reception and it holds a LTE signal it. I figure the new Moto-X will have the same if not better reception. If its good I'll buy the new one next year if not...I don't know what I'll do.

This will be the new norm on Verizon ... So until they saturate the ENTIRE country in 4G (is this even possible?), I'd image calls dropping will be an issue for someone, somewhere. Yeah, eventually as Verizon continues to build their network those effected will be few and far between, but I'd imagine that it'll take a while. Knowing big red's arrogance, they'll be known concerned with those effected ...

Yeah, the article isn't really focused on what I assume the OP is upset about (which is that the new X won't support simultaneous data/voice in the same way other (older) phones do).
From the article:
Simultaneous voice and data has been available on most Android phones by coming equipped with two separate radios and maintaining separate connections to the 1x and EVDO or LTE networks. Verizon’s upcoming Moto X (2nd gen), set to launch on September 26th, will handle simultaneous voice and data quite differently from previous Android phones.

The key point here is that the 2014 X will not have separate LTE and 3g/CDMA radios.
It's not really a huge deal overall - the iPhones on vzw never had separate radios and every phone pre-4g obviously didn't either.

the wording is off in the article (unless my interpretation is really bad). how i interpreted the line "Verizon’s upcoming Moto X (2nd gen), set to launch on September 26th, will handle simultaneous voice and data quite differently from previous Android phones" meant that since that phone is "certified (in Verizon's eyes?)" to have VoLTE, of course it will be handled differently. and that goes for future phones as well
the reason i interpreted it like that is i continued reading the article, and it explains the whole software update to activate VoLTE and all that stuff
i really hope that this article is wrong

The Pure/Tmobile does not have Voice over LTE. Go into a LTE are and make a call. Its drops to just 4G(HSPA+).
Maybe a software update will/can change that later, but right now there is no VoLTE on the Moto X.

I think T-Mobile has to setup VoLTE on the network side. It isn't available right now

Honestly, VoLTE isn't that important right now, not many people still have that feature. All it is better call sound quality and connect faster.
No Simultaneous Voice and Data
Well, I just got my Moto X 2014 yesterday and discovered I can't be on the phone and use data at the same time. I called Verizon thinking maybe my SIM was having trouble or something...then, found this thread. I'm fairly irritated by this as this is a feature I use quite often. Wonder how long it'll be before they push the update allowing simultaneous voice and data? I suppose I'll switch back to my 1st Gen Moto X until then... too bad.
I am used to this coming from an iPhone on Verizon. However I noticed today that this is not a real issue for me, cause as long as I have Wifi I can still check data etc.

To each their own. I use voice/data simultaneously constantly. As a GM for a large construction company, I have customers, employees, and subcontractors calling constantly needing information that I can only provide with an internet connection. If I'm traveling and using my phone's hotspot feature, but then get a call, I'm screwed. I have to hang up with the the caller, lookup the data/information, & then call them back and hope they don't ask me for some other piece of information. I'll be looking forward to this update.
Oh I could for sure see that being an issue. Hopefully the update comes soon
Ah, dang. I just read Moto only has one modem inside the Moto X. Damn Verizon for not updating the patch for simultaneous voice/data. Probably working out a new patch so we will have a harder time to root.
Has anyone else been missing calls occasionally with the Nexus 6 on sprint? I seem to miss atleast one or more every day with it. It is very intermittent but it does happen, but it's not good because some of them are important calls.
Any information or help would be appreciated!

Are you using Google voice? Just curious because I've had it happen, but very rarely. By the way, check out my thread in general. Lots of Sprint users to ask.

It happens to me 2-4 times everyday on my Sprint Nexus 6 with Android 5.0.1 (latest OTA). I got Nexus 6 on Dec 22 and missed calls 3-4 times a day that I know of. It happened very intermittently especially when I'm connected to WiFi at home. I went to Sprint store and they said it could be network related problem and they opened a ticket. Sprint rap from store mentioned that it could be issue related to CSFB on Spark network. Sprint never called me back regarding the issue. I decided to returned with restocking fees (they refused to waive the restocking fee) and got the HTC One M8 and issue went away.
Yesterday (Jan 8) I had to buy new Nexus 6 and activated on my sprint account (for work related reason), BAM! the missing calls issue showed up right away. From my experiences, I've other Spark phones (S5, LG G3, HTC One M8) and this issue only happened on Sprint Nexus 6.
If it is CSFB issue, it should show up on my M8 and it did not. Looks like this issue is Sprint Nexus 6 and Sprint network since I don't see other people reported on other network like ATT, T-Mobile and Verizon.
I searched for "Nexus 6 missing calls" on google, you will see a bunch of people reported on Sprint Community forum and issue is still not resolved.
The only work around is to put the phone in 3G mode. The csfb issue is at fault,as said above. So you have to leave LTE off. Still waiting for a damn resolution.
Is this still an issue in today? Just curious

Before I switched to Verizon (thank God) I had no issues using my Nexus 6 on Sprint in mid 2016. You know, other than the typical Sprint issues like poor coverage, no VoLTE, frequent 3G or 1x signal rather than LTE, etc...
