Sideload Apps - Samsung Galaxy Gear

Do you need to be rooted to sideload apps?
I do not think so but I read if you want to install Nova Launcher you need to move the APK, you need to be rooted.

No you don´t need root just to sideload 3rd party apps. Works fine through Wondershare or ADB.
If you even consider using Nova, null_ rom is the way to go...

Why not root and get Nova with Null_19! Your gear will not be completed without that rom! Just saying

I prefer to have OTA updates and not worry about my $300 watch not booting up or anything else rooting causes. Stock with smart launcher and a game & calculator and my gta 5 cheats on my wrist. Don't need to have a mini phone on my wrist lol the idea is awesome but hell no in not willing to take the risk. So much procedures too

that's unture. it's definetly not complicated. follow the guide and you're done. that's over exaggerating. brakes in your car may stop working anytime but that doesn't stop you from using the car.
but of course some people are happy with the notifications and ugly touchwiz ui. each to his own but me and many other people would not even consider keeping gear if not custom rom that fomey has provided us. he is the true smartwatch maker.

LOL. I'm one of them. I bought my Gear because of the posibility of installing null ROM. I would never paid $300 for having the Gear as it came from factory.

Is there any reputable people who will do the root and custom recovery for people who are tech. challenged or who don't want to take the risk? I had my Motoactv pimped out by a developer for $40 bucks. He installed all kinds of cool apps. and did adjustments in all the setting that I would have never been able to figure out or even thought of. Basically I just asked him to make my watch like his. That would be cool if someone did that for the Gear who was reputable and trustworthy within the development community.

40 usd for putting apps on a watch? wow, someone got free money for few minutes of work...
my advice - just try to do it yourself. you won't burn your gear, in worst case you will just let someone else finish it if you want.. but if you succeed just consider donating that money to the creator of the rom.

Lol, maybe but It was very much worth it to me. Much less stress and hassle.

i would do it for a bottle of a good wine but i'm in europe so that's a no i think..

Bought the watch, loaded 50+ faces on it. Gonna Sideload some apps via adb. Oh yeah and running Null and paired with my One Max.

you really dont need any special skills and its very easy. just follow the info on the first post here.
you can also post questions in that thread if your unsure.

We all have our own methods for side loading APK's, here's mine
Download myappsharer or similar from play store to phone, open app this presents you with list of APK's on phone , select desired app and click share apk via Bluetooth, you will see the gear listed...select and your done. Once transfer is complete use your fav file browser to navigate to sdcard/bluetooth folder on gear and install. EASY

I dont see my gear listed. Does the gear have to be rooted?
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk

Hi ... Your gear should already be connected to your phone by Bluetooth , so it should be highlighted in blue at top of list after you click share by bluetooth. After it is shared you would need a file browser on the gear to install the APK's. The advantage of this method is no PC is required and all is done between phone and gear. Don't think you need to be rooted but would need adb or Wonder share to get file browser on gear in the 1st place.
..........no PC is required AFTER you have a file browser installed on the watch.

Meh, my by doesn't see the gear, even if I make it discoverable, and disconnect the gear.

Chameleon Launcher

Hey guys,
Some of us backed up/pre-ordered this app/launcher from Teknision. Compared to the touchwiz UI, it seems better but it's so limited.
Any feedbacks?
Sent from my GT-P6800 using XDA Premium HD app
I gave it a go. The real value seems to be their widgets of which there are only a precious few. With some trivial exceptions, the basic blank Chameleon screen looks and acts like every other blank launcher. The ides they promote of a "Morning", "Work" and "Evening" home screen can be accomplished whit any launcher that allows for multiple home screens, which should include everything ever produced since the second Regan term.
I do have to say that the Gmail widget looks great. I would prefer to just have them make that and their other widgets available in the market for a price.
However, the most glaring flaw I saw was that their launcher seems to only work with their own widgets. So the 4 zillion widgets already available in the Play Store do not work with Chameleon. I may be wrong about this due to the next paragraph as my testing/fiddling was forcibly truncated, but I don't think so.
I tried Chameleon for about 45 minutes. After I installed and played with it for a bit, my Tab 7.7 locked up. I got stuck in a boot loop with the Tab 7.7 splash screen; it never even made it to the Verizon 4G splash screen. The only way I could get out was to do a bit of gymnastics with the power and volume buttons between loop sequences and do a complete factory wipe through recovery. I have yet to find a widget that makes a factory wipe seem worthwhile and this was no exception.
So I am done with Chameleon Launcher. Based on what I saw in my 45 minutes, even if the bugs were worked out, I would stick with my current set-up. As always, your mileage may vary.
Doug M.
I agree. Also I noticed that the memory consumption was too big. I hope there would be changes on its way. I expected too much on this and it doesn't beat my stock ui. It always needs Internet connection making it annoying.
Not using it as of now, but still waiting for better offers upon updates.
Sent from my GT-P6800 using XDA Premium HD app
I agree that the current beta leaves much to be desired of.
It is hardly a beta version at the moment. I doubt their concept of html5 widgets will achieve broad acceptance.
Tried to apply for membership on their Site hoping to share my opinions but seems hard to get it.

How about un installing it inside the settings>applications>downloaded menu? I since its installed, it might be there. Honestly, I haven't encountered any issue as you did. Just thinking of other options that might be possible. Otherwise, it might be another bug on Teknision's part.

Sent from my GT-P6800 using xda premium
i have been using it since it went 1.0 but it i cannot find any difference between it and the beta before it... it is very buggy... and a constant internet connection requirement is something i do not like as i only use wifi... you cannot install your own widgets, which is a negative thing too... and they have such a small number of widgets right now that it is hardly worth your while... but i like the look and it is exactly how i always wanted it... the only thing i care about is that they stop the constant need for widgets thingy, increase their number of their widgets or allow us to install other widgets....

Maps automatically updated from the Play Store today on my S4, it says it is being rolled out slowly so maybe just a select number of downloads at a time while they test it? Not sure.
I like and dislike the new update.
The new UI is pretty smooth and clean.
However they removed the option for zoom buttons. You used to be able to decide if you wanted to display them or not, now there is no option what so ever. However they've added a little help file that shows all the gestures and one i was unaware of (or maybe it is new, probably not) is double tap and hold then drag up to zoom in and drag down to zoom out. Makes up for the lack of buttons I suppose since you can still zoom in/out with one hand/finger.
Another thing I'm a little sour at google for sending the way of the dinosaur is latitude. I always enjoyed stalking my friends, but they've decided to kill latitude altogether. I got an email from google today:
Hello,
Earlier today, we announced that Google Latitude is no longer part of the Google Maps app, and we're retiring Latitude on August 9, 2013.
This means that after August 9, your Latitude friends list will be deleted and you'll lose the ability to share your location with them. There will also be some changes to Location Reporting and Location History, including changes to third-party applications that use Google Latitude. Please see our FAQs for more information.
We understand some of you still want to see your friends and family on a map, which is why we've added location sharing to Google+ for Android (coming soon to iOS).
Thank you for using Google Latitude.
Sincerely,
The Google Latitude Team

I just looked. They don't have it anymore or maybe I tested when Google allowed 24 hour refunds. I don't even see the $10 app for Samsung gs4/HTC one phones. Sorry. I kept the $19 app when I bought it as it controlled a lot of stuff I tested. It worked very well on my gtab2. I finally got it almost completely setup last night on my note3. I rarely need my TV remote as I have volume setup to be controlled through my onkyo/onkyo remote. I really only need the smart hub button and very rarely input on my Samsung TV remote but now I only need touchsquid app. For the cheapies in here the touch squid $19 app is really worth it. Touchsquid has excellent support as seen through the reviews and they update often. I only think you might run into problems with old stuff or the latest stuff that might've changed their frequencies recently for touchsquid to not have updated.

Well, since the Samsung WatchON app is an epic fail (and far too bloated for what I want) I'm going to bump this thread because I'm looking for an extremely basic free universal remote app with codes for my ancient Sony integrated receiver.
All I want is volume buttons and input switching. I don't need anything that costs, supports 500,000 devices, has a fancy-pants gui with pictures of the device, etc.
That free IR Universal Remote linked in a previous post is unacceptable, by the way. I left them a negative review on the play store already.
Any other freeware suggestions?

SIX AXIS compatibility issues

Anyone get this to work on stock n910t?
I'm a gamer and changed from the note 2 t889.
I still have to play on my note 2 cause my controller just won't connect. Seems like I've tried everything including but not limited to Bluetooth xposed modules to totally different apps but nothing seems to be compatible. I'm frustrated having to play on my outdated device.

I play mc4 religiously daily. The native gamepad imho sucks dingleberries
I'm also having trouble pairing it, works flawlessly over OTG but bluetooth is a no go. I've noticed on videos that work the bluetooth icon shows up on the notification bar but on my note 4 (rooted) it doesn't appear when I press start. If anyone has a fix please post it! Share your knowledge!

Excellent. Link please. I have a homemade one that I made out of Boston clips and zip ties which works surprisingly well. I have been using them for over 2 years straight playing mc4 on my note 2 and now on my note 4. I made 2 of them, one for home and one for the office lol (lunchbreak). Here's what they look like. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2417591.
If anyone wants to friend me on mc4 my profile name is:

Make sure you send me an in game message to let me know your from xda.
Hope to see some of you in battle

[Q] blocking sms and calls nexus 6 (5.1)?

Hi,
I have a nexus 6 with Afirewall blocker installed with lollipo 5.1 .Before the update when i was on 5.01 i used to be able to type in a code to get to the firewall and see my text and calls that were blocked etc. Now with the update if i have a normal sms come through, once i put the code in , it just takes me to the sms screen and not the Afirewall blocker.
Is there another way to block sms and calls on 5.1?
I have always used root call blocker. I am not aware of anything built into the phone

Root level call blocking? let's see:
AdAway - ad blocking I don't want to see ads in my browser or applications
Root file explorer - I want to be able to move any file or add ringtones notifications or anything else I want to the system
Titanium backup - I can lose the phone or get a new one and restore all my applications just as they were running without depending on Google to properly restore them which it does not. It also gives me the ability to freeze any application on my phone.
SD maid - an automatic process to clean out junk files and folders ANYWHERE on my phone
Recently - a program that allows me to keep a limited amount of applications running in the multi task button so when I go there there is not 500 tabs open
GSAM- root level battery monitoring so I can have more drill down on applications running. The base program doesn't need root but it has an add on

It is easier than it used to be. I mean I was not looking forward to going through the ritual of getting this thing unlocked and rooted but it was almost done for me. This includes the tool going and getting all the drivers you need.
I'll do you one better, you can watch it.

Excellent , just watched the video. Seems a lot easier. When rooted does it make the phone run a lot faster and what about ota updates. Can instill get them?

As long as you just root you will get OTA but if you change the recovery image then you will not. If you change any system files you will not
If you use his tool make sure to not to check the "flash recovery" box .
Oh and after you take OTA you will have to re root

Is this what you have done?

No I could care less about OTA. I run custom ROMs and various other things if I want to go back to stock I will flash it. OTA is very overrated in my book.

me personally? None as of today. I have my personal reasons. But mostly because new versions seem to come out almost everyday of Android then the ROM creators are playing catch up.
I am running mostly stock with debloating and all my favorite root apps. I'm going to give it a couple weeks some of the ones on the block to try are Chroma , Terminus, Bliss Pop, and Benzo I am pretty much just trolling the threads here and reading about each one right now

Not really because my needs are not your needs. For instance I don't use Gmail so that gets frozen. I don't use the internal chrome browser so that gets frozen off the phone. Etc etc.

OK then the general things that would get me going. If u don't use Gmail what do u use and if not chrome then what?
Well I use K9 for all my mail need the interface is dated but I have had it so long it's hard to give up. Many people actually do not like it.
I am currently using the Chrome Beta or Dolphin
