Hi,
I have a nexus 6 with Afirewall blocker installed with lollipo 5.1 .Before the update when i was on 5.01 i used to be able to type in a code to get to the firewall and see my text and calls that were blocked etc. Now with the update if i have a normal sms come through, once i put the code in , it just takes me to the sms screen and not the Afirewall blocker.
Is there another way to block sms and calls on 5.1?
I have always used root call blocker. I am not aware of anything built into the phone

Root level call blocking? let's see:
AdAway - ad blocking I don't want to see ads in my browser or applications
Root file explorer - I want to be able to move any file or add ringtones notifications or anything else I want to the system
Titanium backup - I can lose the phone or get a new one and restore all my applications just as they were running without depending on Google to properly restore them which it does not. It also gives me the ability to freeze any application on my phone.
SD maid - an automatic process to clean out junk files and folders ANYWHERE on my phone
Recently - a program that allows me to keep a limited amount of applications running in the multi task button so when I go there there is not 500 tabs open
GSAM- root level battery monitoring so I can have more drill down on applications running. The base program doesn't need root but it has an add on

It is easier than it used to be. I mean I was not looking forward to going through the ritual of getting this thing unlocked and rooted but it was almost done for me. This includes the tool going and getting all the drivers you need.
I'll do you one better, you can watch it.

Excellent , just watched the video. Seems a lot easier. When rooted does it make the phone run a lot faster and what about ota updates. Can instill get them?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
As long as you just root you will get OTA but if you change the recovery image then you will not. If you change any system files you will not
If you use his tool make sure to not to check the "flash recovery" box .
Oh and after you take OTA you will have to re root

No I could care less about OTA. I run custom ROMs and various other things if I want to go back to stock I will flash it. OTA is very overrated in my book.

me personally? None as of today. I have my personal reasons. But mostly because new versions seem to come out almost everyday of Android then the ROM creators are playing catch up.
I am running mostly stock with debloating and all my favorite root apps. I'm going to give it a couple weeks some of the ones on the block to try are Chroma , Terminus, Bliss Pop, and Benzo I am pretty much just trolling the threads here and reading about each one right now

Not really because my needs are not your needs. For instance I don't use Gmail so that gets frozen. I don't use the internal chrome browser so that gets frozen off the phone. Etc etc.

Dear forum geniuses....Does anyone out there know where to get the Seeds of Life live wallpaper apk? Google gives a bunch of links to rapidshare and places I've never heard of, with no success....also, my captivate isn't rooted...how would I install if found?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Dear Forum non reader. This file was found one thread above yours called what wallpaper is this. This link was posted at the very bottom and contains the apk file from which you willl need apk manager to install and also ROOT to side load. Although there is another way, just ROOT.http://www.mediafire.com/?jthw3mme4go
Wow....a sarcastic reply....clever. Funny how you say "non reader"when you yourself clearly didn't thoroughly read mine. Here it is for the second time, let me know when it sinks in....I clearly know the name of the file and have clicked on the link provided in previous posts, which in return sends me to a downloadable link that doesn't download an apk file but opens another window to another link...and so on and so on...Thanks for the reply though...maybe next time. (didn't download this forum app to be openly belittled)

its amazing how when i click the link it opens mediafire, i click download file and i have an apk file for seeds of life. If you dont like sarcastic remarks, I suggest you buy the wallpaper for the .78cents that it costs in the market next time instead of asking for a free version of it. And i wasnt trying to be little you my friend
im curious about something. I wonder if adb install will work on a non-rooted phone for sideloading.
if it does i'd be more than happy to post up a tutorial with screenshots from beginning to end.
Not on the market! Wouldn't search for help w/o shopping first, friend.Would be happy to part with the change, but....IT'S NOT ON THE MARKET. As to why you get an apk file from the link and I don't, I can't explain.

the barcode worked for me.. as cool as this wallpaper I didn't download it though.
I'm noticing.. some market items are missing for some people..
I can't get SimplyLockscreen to show in the market either.. so I'm not surprised if these users aren't seeing certain apps in the market..
Could the apps not be showing up possibly because of AT&T Market restrictions? Seems odd but I would say root the phone, install the apk through adb or Astro. Or root phone, install MarketAccess apk, emulate T-Mobile(US or AU), then search for it in Market. (If you were gonna do the second one though, you mine as well just skip half the work and install the apk from mediafire...but supporting developers is nice, especially since it's only $0.78 approx.)
Shows up in Market through Barcode Scanner for me.
Has to be am AT&T thing....Yes I have all of the proper apps, (barcode scanner) I just couldn't root my phone using lag fix...zip file doesn't show up on recovery screen.

I don't like this because at some point, I think HTC might find that a lot of people are using AOSP over Sense, and just kill Sense development all together. I still like using it, and Sense 5 is BEAST!
I doubt HTC would leave sense. The option would be wonderful, but then, what would be the point of the nexus if devices can easily run stock?

I would assume that the point of the nexus devices would be to have something unlocked and give a great device to the prepaid market. The nexus 4 was priced very aggressively and from my understanding did really well. Not only with people who could use it on contract as a replacement device but also for people who wanted an inexpensive super phone on a prepaid carrier. Also, people like to purchase on contract for subsidized pricing on handsets. Giving this option of aosp or sense would mean that tech savvy people like us who care about this would have the option. While your average consumer will play with sense in the store and either like it or hate it. At least that's how I feel about it.
Sense does do some stuff android doesn't. I always find myself going back and forth but preferring sense.

Maps automatically updated from the Play Store today on my S4, it says it is being rolled out slowly so maybe just a select number of downloads at a time while they test it? Not sure.
I like and dislike the new update.
The new UI is pretty smooth and clean.
However they removed the option for zoom buttons. You used to be able to decide if you wanted to display them or not, now there is no option what so ever. However they've added a little help file that shows all the gestures and one i was unaware of (or maybe it is new, probably not) is double tap and hold then drag up to zoom in and drag down to zoom out. Makes up for the lack of buttons I suppose since you can still zoom in/out with one hand/finger.
Another thing I'm a little sour at google for sending the way of the dinosaur is latitude. I always enjoyed stalking my friends, but they've decided to kill latitude altogether. I got an email from google today:
Hello,
Earlier today, we announced that Google Latitude is no longer part of the Google Maps app, and we're retiring Latitude on August 9, 2013.
This means that after August 9, your Latitude friends list will be deleted and you'll lose the ability to share your location with them. There will also be some changes to Location Reporting and Location History, including changes to third-party applications that use Google Latitude. Please see our FAQs for more information.
We understand some of you still want to see your friends and family on a map, which is why we've added location sharing to Google+ for Android (coming soon to iOS).
Thank you for using Google Latitude.
Sincerely,
The Google Latitude Team

These days almost all mobile data providers have a cap. 2gb a month is not enough if we have sync on and background data on. this app actually compresses background data and saves data for us.
It can almost extend our usage upto 5 times....
Here is the play store link to this app (its free!!)
IF YOU'VE INSTALLED A CUSTOM ROM:
Some ROMs and kernels are missing important networking support that Android 4.0 APIs, and Onavo Extend, rely on.
If you've received a message saying your version of Android is unsupported, or if the application always says "service paused", please contact us via the "Feedback" menu item so we can help.
Trying a different ROM or kernel should help as well

Have you checked today? It says it expired yesterday. Anyway, the reason I am asking is because I am a bit skeptical about this app. I mean, if data is compressed on our phone, how does the other side know that it is compressed and understand it? The only way I can think of this working is if there is a proxy server somewhere decompressing the data and forwarding them where they were supposed to go. But this means the server has access to all our data traffic. Or am I paranoid?
Would not recommend. It works through a VPN and somehow caused a lot of my google apps to not work properly.
For instance google now will show '' google now is not available in your country''.
This wasnt caused by anything else apart from this.

i could have sworn this problem only began occuring after installing this app. any ideas for a fix?
opening google search does not show me any cards whatsover and its settings does not have any options to enable google now. (latest version from play store)

Do you need to be rooted to sideload apps?
I do not think so but I read if you want to install Nova Launcher you need to move the APK, you need to be rooted.
No you don´t need root just to sideload 3rd party apps. Works fine through Wondershare or ADB.
If you even consider using Nova, null_ rom is the way to go...
Why not root and get Nova with Null_19! Your gear will not be completed without that rom! Just saying
I prefer to have OTA updates and not worry about my $300 watch not booting up or anything else rooting causes. Stock with smart launcher and a game & calculator and my gta 5 cheats on my wrist. Don't need to have a mini phone on my wrist lol the idea is awesome but hell no in not willing to take the risk. So much procedures too

that's unture. it's definetly not complicated. follow the guide and you're done. that's over exaggerating. brakes in your car may stop working anytime but that doesn't stop you from using the car.
but of course some people are happy with the notifications and ugly touchwiz ui. each to his own but me and many other people would not even consider keeping gear if not custom rom that fomey has provided us. he is the true smartwatch maker.
LOL. I'm one of them. I bought my Gear because of the posibility of installing null ROM. I would never paid $300 for having the Gear as it came from factory.

Is there any reputable people who will do the root and custom recovery for people who are tech. challenged or who don't want to take the risk? I had my Motoactv pimped out by a developer for $40 bucks. He installed all kinds of cool apps. and did adjustments in all the setting that I would have never been able to figure out or even thought of. Basically I just asked him to make my watch like his. That would be cool if someone did that for the Gear who was reputable and trustworthy within the development community.

40 usd for putting apps on a watch? wow, someone got free money for few minutes of work...
my advice - just try to do it yourself. you won't burn your gear, in worst case you will just let someone else finish it if you want.. but if you succeed just consider donating that money to the creator of the rom.
Lol, maybe but It was very much worth it to me. Much less stress and hassle.

We all have our own methods for side loading APK's, here's mine
Download myappsharer or similar from play store to phone, open app this presents you with list of APK's on phone , select desired app and click share apk via Bluetooth, you will see the gear listed...select and your done. Once transfer is complete use your fav file browser to navigate to sdcard/bluetooth folder on gear and install. EASY

I dont see my gear listed. Does the gear have to be rooted?
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Hi ... Your gear should already be connected to your phone by Bluetooth , so it should be highlighted in blue at top of list after you click share by bluetooth. After it is shared you would need a file browser on the gear to install the APK's. The advantage of this method is no PC is required and all is done between phone and gear. Don't think you need to be rooted but would need adb or Wonder share to get file browser on gear in the 1st place.
..........no PC is required AFTER you have a file browser installed on the watch.

Meh, my by doesn't see the gear, even if I make it discoverable, and disconnect the gear.
