Casting (almost) any movie or show - Google Chromecast

I downloaded Avia to see what it could do.
To my surprise it let me play any movie I had on my device.
I started wondering if I could use it as a app to open any video from any app.
I opened Showbox and selected a show. I pressed "use third party player" and selected Avia. The chromecast button still was highlighted and the show came right to my TV after a couple of seconds.
Just a cool discovery if no one found it out yet.

Avia will cast whatever is on your device. Whether it actually plays on the Chromecast depends on if the video is in a format compatible with Chromecast. You must be lucky and all your media is compatible with Chromecast.

I got confused since you said "any video on my device" but same rules apply.
Any app that allows Share should work with Avia as long as the video is compatible and Avia can retrieve it (if it's a link).

Fling Any media files to Chromecast from PC Download

Fling is the latest in a string of applications designed to stream content to Google’s Chromecast device. Fling is a Java application (so it will work on pretty much every platform) that streams media content directly to Chromecast from your PC. Technically, it is possible to do this anyway, but it requires opening the video or song you want to stream in a Chrome tab, and then casting that tab to the device. Fling does away with that nonsense though, allowing for media to be dragged-and-dropped into the application, whereupon it will begin streaming to the Chromecast.

Looking good. MP4's go over with no problem...But, of course I see you have some transcoding options set up for other formats (like mkv). How will that work? Is this implemented already?
Thanks for the nice app and hard work.

MKV works great! Streaming from my NAS box now. However, the black line for 16:9 is only on top, and picture is at bottom of screen.
However, there is no way to fast forward or rewind.
Wow, this works wonderfully!
I can stream pretty much any video I have on my PC and get video and audio.
Also, you can use the andoid app remotecast https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.benlc.camcast to pause and adjust volume from your phone.
does anyone know how to remove the padding around the videos? when mine plays on the tv it is not centered and the top of the video is cut off

add height=480 and width=760 to your perameters. This will mess with your aspect ratio but it's the only solution I've found. If you can transcode HD then try 720x1280

I don't understand. This isn't working at all for me. Tried both Chromecasts I have on different TVs, but every video file (AVIs and MP4) I try does nothing on the app or on the TV. Sometimes I see a track time start running on the app, but still, nothing but the ready to cast screen TV...
Did I miss something? Running Win8.
I also just updated VLC and still doesn't cast anything at all.
Also, does the config.properties file that creates automatically have to stay in the same location as the .jar file? Do we need to keep this at all?

You won't see anything happen to the app. There's a 10 second delay before video starts on tv.

I don't expect to see anything on the app, but most of the times, the counter for the movie never starts, and even when it does eventually, nothing ever shows up what so ever on the TV. So forget a 10-second delay, I've waited minutes and nothing lol.
Also I noticed that sometimes after loading the .jar, it only finds one Chromecast instead of my 2, or it finds NONE- until I hit refresh.
Ya I can't get it to work either for any video formats. It finds my Chromecast, but when I drag a file, my TV just goes black.

Yes, in the videos I tried, both pause and then play to re-start worked.
Jumping forward/back doesn't work though.
In my test most videos pause like aircast and cheap cast. Fast Internet connection but I just don't think chromecast was built to stream media over local area networks without issues... But what do I know.

Hey all.
I tried using Chromecast today and it just isn't the same anymore.
When trying to play a "Personal Video" there's no option to stream it to the TV.
The only available icon is to share the video, which I did by accident, and now everything is being shared on Google Plus and I can't seem to find a way for this to stop either.
I'm using a Nexus 10, firmware 4.3, and it's not rooted.
Any help or ideas on what has changed recently?
Sees chromecast from ubuntu, nothing on windows
Fling doesn't find my chromecast using windows. but sees it using ubuntu. However nothing plays.
This is sweet!

[Q] What should I do about converting my files to be able to stream them on Avia?

Ive purchased Avia and quickly found out that my MP3 files arent compatible with Chromecast. What should I do? I want to be able to stream them to my cast and also listen to them on my phone.

Okay, something's wrong with your local casting.
Tap the @ in the upper-left again, then tap Add Media, and tap the little recycle-circle under Media Database.
That will refresh your media database so you at least shouldn't get File not found.
Then try a picture again.

Weird...
Two things to try:
Try RealPlayer Cloud and see if you can cast anything from that
Install BubbleUPnP, point it to a folder with media. Then go into Avia, Add Media, and tick/check/enable the BubbleUPnP entry at the bottom of the list - that will have Avia do a DLNA pull from BubbleUPnP on the same device, then cast.
That was the workaround I had to use on my Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.1.2
I have since upgraded to 4.3 on the same device and Avia works fine.
Trying to determine whether there's something OS-related causing your failure, or if it's solely within Avia.

Try the BubbleUPnP method with Avia next.

I couldn't remember whether BubbleUPnP needed setup but it doesn't, just install and run, skip BubbleUPnP server thing. You should see "Local server" in your notifications.
Run Avia
Tap the @ go to Add Media, scroll down and find BubbleUPnP Media Server under Network and tick/check/enable it.
Tap the @ again
Tap Music (or Photos or Videos)
Tap Folders
Select BubbleUPnP
Navigate the folders to find a music (or photo or video) file and try casting that.

Great. Sounds like whatever condition I had in Android 4.1.2 is also present in your device running Android 4.2.2
BubbleUPnP (local DLNA server) is a fair workaround for the moment, but please submit a ticket to Avia support so they're aware that the issue with local file casting exists in your Android 4.2.2 version as well.
You may want to consider upgrade to Android 4.3 if you can. At least on my AT&T Galaxy S3 it works fine with Avia without needing the BubbleUPnP workaround.

Movietube-->semperVidLink-->bubbleupnp-->Avia/Allcast

I found this movietube and it plays videos through youtube that aren't easy to find or in some cases these videos do not play on standard youtube, newly released movies in hd such as Last Vegas and many more that the app finds, with movietube they work and then you can use the share video feature with sempervidlinkfree or sempervidlink pro and that grabs the url in a way that allows bubbleupnp ---- Full Version to use it where you can pass it to Avia with in app purchase or possiblyAllcast----->PremiumVersion I haven't tried yet but I believe that sempervidlink+bubbleupnp is capable working with many more apps that don't directly cast.
another possibilty might be for movietube-->sempervidlink-->plex
I have only tested this with Avia as the app to cast so Plex/Allcast may or may not work.

I tried this with daileymotion and it did not work on first pass, so in the place where the video is shared with sempervidlink I just used Vget and set the playerin options to bubbleupnp and that played through Avia.
Vget also has a chrome extension that requires this dlna cast chrome app and I originally believed that it would cast to chromecast as it showed the cast icon and but until trying it just now to verify that worked it does not.

Sometimes showbox doesn't work, and I was just posting a way I found for it to work. It seems like a combination of apps make it possible to play videos from almost any app that can share the url of the video being played if it is correct format.
Anyone know where Showbox takes its stuff from?
Probably South Korea

Can't play vevo videos on youtube

Hey, i recently got my chromecast and really like it but i can't play vevo videos on YouTube. Nothing shows up on my TV. Anyone else having this issue or knows a solution?
And something "off topic", is there like anyway to cast your pc desktop, kind of like teamviever?

Well, give me one of the videos you are having issues with and I'll try it.
As for desktop cast, there is a selection in chromecast extension in chrome that lets you select entire screen, probably not going to work well though. Just click on the little arrow drop down and it's under "Cast current tab". There's no standalone ones that I know of (though I have not looked tbh). If I see one I'll repost.
Well for You Tube there is a CCast icon (or should be) in the You Tube player itself displayed when going there via the PC Browser.
Just send the content to CCast using that button instead of the Cast a Tab.
Unless you send a link to a problem content we can't really help...
Could be that the content isn't codec compatible with CCast.

turn old device into Chromecast

I have a note 2 with a cracked screen that's too expensive to fix at the mo and was wondering if there's a way to turn it into a Chromecast for my kitchen TV?
I will order a HDMI dongle if it's possible. I'd like it to have Chromecast functionality rather than manually using the device to select stuff.

You can turn it in to a dlna device using bubbleupnp. Install it on the note and on the device your gonna stream from.
It's not the same as chromecast (cast function in apps won't work). But you can stream movies, music, SoundCloud and youtube with it.

You need to choose a external video player in bubbleupnp on your note to watch movies. I use Archos video player and the free codecpack in the playstore

Yes, AFAIK the Cast SDK 2.0 release had some device-specific key/identifier requirement that sunk the software emulators.
