[Q] Has anyone with a dev edition gotten an OTA update? - Moto X Q&A

Trying to learn as much as possible about the Moto X before I buy. I am on at&t, and am deciding between the dev edition and the at&t.
Has anyone gotten OTA updates on their GSM dev, and if so was it Moto Google or at&t? In another words, you use an unbranded X on at&t and they update, do you also get all the bloat?
TIA

I've gotten updates on both att and aio wireless with my developer Edition. No bloatware at all. Updates come in same way as with a non developer version

Developer Edition getting Moto Maker?

This phone looks amazing as it is but I will need to get a Verizon developer edition so I can have some more freedom for ROMS and such. Is there any news about the developer editions getting Moto Maker?
I wouldn't bet on it anytime soon...

For all I know, the gplay/developer edition will come later this year. But it's highly speculative at this point to know if it will come with the motomaker option. We should find in November.

Verizon Developer phone and stock phone.

Why isn't it possible to flash the development rom on the stock Verizon phone?
Will this ever be a possibility?
I am thinking they are exactly the same hardware and carrier so I would think that it would work.

The development build is for T-Mobile.

I am talking about the software that the Development Verizon phone uses on the Verizon non-dev phone.

The software is the same. It is the phones unique Device ID that allows the bootloader to be unlocked.

Dumb noon questions

I ordered my Moto X on Saturday through moto maker. Its a Verizon retail version. Any idea if 4.4 will come on it? If I don't have 4.4 is there anything I should do before accepting the update? My understanding is the the bootloader on the VZW Moto X retail version has not been unlocked by anyone yet. I am interested in obtaining an unlocked boot loader and root if possible if only for options down the road. I have been seeing tools like RockMyMoto or something on here...what are those all about. These options seem a lot different from what I am used to on my nexus, could really use a brief introduction to my new device. If I am missing a key topic, a link would be super cool.
Thanks!

i just received my verizon phone today and come with 4.2 so you can still using rockmymoto in case that you want to root
It's supposed to be on the path to 4.4 however I wouldn't expect it until early next year but I might be wrong but that's when vzw releases big updates it seems.

Just got mine today. 4.4 was not installed but it started the download on its own. I didn't realize it until it had already downloaded.

Sprint Moto X from moto maker, how to unlock bootloader and root?

Trying to figure out if I should get my wife a Moto X, the only two things she needs is good battery life and wifi tether. Been trying to read on here but I am little lost, from what I understand the bootloader on the Sprint Moto X from moto maker is unlockable but how do I unlock it? I am seeing things about getting an unlock code from Motorola but this is not a dev edition phone.
Do I need to unlock bootloader in order to achieve root and then get a wifi tether to root?
And it looks like Sprint has not updated to 4.4 for the Moto X, is that right?
Thanks
Yes unlock in Motorola web site and the update is coming soon.

Thanks, I just looked that up and see that you can do it from their website, I didn't know that. Once I unlock the bootloader will future updates lock it again or will it remain unlocked like my N5?
Thanks again
So far you remaining unlock

[Q] Can a Verizon Moto X work on the T-Mobile network?

I have a Moto X that I purchased from Best Buy. I have Verizon. the Moto X is not activated. Can the same Moto X I have be activated on a T-Mobile account, can a TMO customer use it?
The short answer is yes. There may be some LTE issues depending on what version of Android is on the device.
There are few threads in the Droid Ultra section on this.

The Motorola site for the respective developer editions says Verizon version support LTE 750Mhz (B13) whereas the T-Mobile version supports LTE 700/AWS/1900MHz (B17/B4/B2). Doesn't seem like the VZW version will support T-Mobile LTE.
