Hi guys, I finally got a Moto X today to check out what's the hype all about! I'm very excited but also very new to Android and Moto X. So will need you help.
I'm currently on Verizon 4.2.2. I want to stay on it because I do use FoxFi and 4.4 breaks it. OTA did download on the phone but I delayed the installation. Is there anyway to delete the OTA download file and force stop the OTA?
I tried to force stop the MotorolaOTA but the download resumed after about 20 seconds every time.
I rooted the device thanks for the instruction on this sites. Is my easiest route to use the paid version of Titanium Backup to freeze the MotoOTA? I want to make sure it works before I go ahead and pay for it. Any other alternatives?
Thanks for your help in advance. I tried to browse through about 20 pages or so but didn't really find the answer so I created a new thread.
Yep, go ahead and buy titanium. It works perfectly on my phone. App quarantine does not see the app. Anyone have any free alternatives?

Do you have the developer edition or regular Moto X? What phone carrier are you on?
If foxfi is what is keeping you back, usb and Bluetooth tether still works for me. As you said Hotspot will not work.

If you're rooted on 4.4 there's instructions in a thread here to get the native WiFi tethering working. Just FYI.

So do I just update through OTA , root 4.4 again and then install that package from this thread with discoverer?
Also I heard 4.4 is a bit buggy so that's why I'm holding back to see what 4.4.2 brings.
Thanks for the reply!

Word around the mill is that root is not going to be achieved any time soon on 4.4 (VZW). I am hesitant because I use my phone for internet at my household. Can't lose the ability to wireless tether. I've seen some apps on the playstore that advertise wireless tethering without root, but I don't want to update and it end up not working. Has anyone tried these apps? If not, anyone who is on 4.4 willing to give it a try?
Much appreciated.

I'll do you one better.
I'm rooted on 4.4 and I cannot get tethering to work AT ALL.
They removed VZWEntitelmentServices.apk, so we can no longer bypass the stock tethering check.
FoxFi didn't work. Wireless tether for root users didn't work. None of the tethering apps I tried worked.
Tethering on 4.4 is going to be a problem, I can tell.
I saw a post that Foxfi didn't work on a VZW X with KK.
Now, maybe if the app developer updates it to be 4.4 compatible? But I don't use the product, so I don't know what the developer's plans are.

I don't know if this would fix the issue as it creates the VZWEntitlementServices.apk but I had success with this on 4.2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2443562 I haven't had a chance to upgrade to 4.4 to try it out but hopefully I'll be able to test it over the weekend.

Only those with unlockable boot loader (VZW Developer Edition, or if your carrier allows boot loader unlock) can root with Kit Kat.

Sorry but it is not working for me. I have it setup like you said, and it looks like it tethers, but I am unable to see the SSID or connect.
Were you able to successfully tether something?
edit; Nvm, it does work, it just takes a really long time for the network to show up... like a few minutes.
I still would prefer native tethering, but this will work for now, ty!

Are you using the EXPERIMENTAL 3.4 version? because the other versions of the app did not work.
So there is no possible way unless you have root?

Just a heads up guys, the GSM dev edition is just running the same software are tmo, so anything for tmo can be applied to yours as well including the official OTA or the factory images for it

Been there done that. I have both a gsm dev and an AT&T and they both exibit the same behavior. There is a major bug in KitKat that flows across all devices.

Thank God someone asked this already! :good:
Btw, who is in charge of the Developer Edition updates (like KitKat and bug fixes)? The Motorola Team? Since it's not attached to a specific carrier when you buy it.
Last question, does it work worldwide? I'm thinking of buying this version of the Moto X, I live in Panama and this device hasn't come here (and probably won't, since it's not samsung or iphone market <_<). So if I select the "check for updates" on the phone, will it detect it? :fingers-crossed:

The GSM Developer Edition runs the same software as the T-Mobile version. Motorola is posting the factory images on their website. You can also get the files here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ghost/list.php
Not sure if your phone will detect an update or not but mine does on AT&T network, it shouldn't be an issue though for you as you will have two sources to get the files from yourself.

Does anyone know what update this is? System preferences doesn't have any updates available, but I woke up to it this morning. Running 4.4 rooted via slapmymoto and wondering if it's safe to take.

kernel 3.4.42-xline-gf57cf5b
had to change your link to http. Otherwise there isn't very much info to go on. What phone do you have exactly? Moto x gsm, carrier version?
Edit: Ok, verizon version. I have exact same system build and kernel, except i have an extra "Verizon" in system version.
I would take the update if it was me. What could it hurt?

Hello everyone,
I am posting here today on the topic of the Moto X OS Updater. I have the VZW Moto X Dev Ed running Rooted Kit Kat 4.4. I do not want the new update and it is asking me everyday if I would like to install. As I am not interested in doing so I would like to remove this. Is there a way to shut down the updater or maybe even remove the apk? If so what is it called or how do I do so?
Thanks in advance!

The main reason people want to get back to 4.2.2 is to root. with the DE you can root with any version because of the unlocked bootloader.

From what others are posting using the unofficial fxz, you can run the 4.4 system with the 4.4.2 bootloader and I would presume the 4.2.2 system, too although I don't see where anyone has specifically tried that. However, if you do run a lower version of the system than the bootloader and accidentally take the 4.4.2 OTA again, you will brick. So you would need to freeze the OTA app to avoid that.

Hello,
I really like the Stock OS. Right now I have:
13.3.0.2 installed, which is a very old build.
My device is rooted.

This is a different thread, though. They are talking about NOT HAVING root and updating to a OS-Version, where they can root the device. I already have root and just want to keep my root. Thats a different solution, hence the new OT.
