Security issue OMNIROM (Regarding the SIM and PIN code) - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

Hey,
I already reported the issue on JIRA but got no respons so im trying here to see if it is really a problem or intended!
Watch the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bc7Yfa9uSEg
As you can see when i typ in the SIM the system gives feedback (grey SIM pad) when it shouldn't do that! This is because i have the same SIM and PIN code setup (1993 in this case).
When i change my PIN (the phone security PIN) to 1992 and keep my SIM on 1993 i get no system respons (no grey dail pad).
This seems like a security issue as a unauthorized person can easily get his way in to the system now just by trying diffrent codes until the system gives feedback (grey dailpad).
If someone is on JIRA please give some feedback or respond: http://jira.omnirom.org/browse/OMNI-426
Thanks for anyone who would try it out or answer me! :fingers-crossed:

How to remove PIN on my Kaiser

Hi all,
I've just Recieved a second hand Kaiser. I can use it w/o any issue but the PIN and PIN2 are not default ones, I have no idea what they are. (thank god the "Require PIN when phone is used" option is not selected)
now there is only one attempt remaining and I feel that if I got it wrong, sth horrible will happen(permanent lock or sth else?). I know that if I dont touch the PIN settings, nothing will happen, but I can't make sure that my friends won't, accidently. Simply flash a new ROM or hardrest doesn't help removing the PIN~
Could someone tell me how to remove the old PIN plz? help!!!! Thanks a lot.
Try a reflash of the ROM; i've heard of this on the ATT forums and if i recall correctly, a reflash fixed things.

PIN relates to a SIM card NOT the phone or ROM. If you enter wrong PIN code 3 times in a row, the SIM card will be burned out.
Only the service provider (aka carrier) can give you the PIN. In case you don't know the old PIN, they will give you PIN2 to reset.
Another easy method: ask your carrier replace the SIM card then they will give you the PIN and of course, you can change it to your desired number.
@Kareem
Thanks for your kind suggestion but I've tried reflash ROMs and I think that doesn't help.
@Nghiem
Ok, that explains everything. I'm just too worried that my phone may get locked. I think now I can stop worrying, can't I?

I'm currently using the O2 PaynGo with free text bolt ons. Do I still get the free texts after replacing with a 3G sim?

If you log into your AT&T account, they offer support tutorials for your particular devices, one of which refers to sim/puk unlock. check it out.

You would have to ask O2, no idea

[Q] I can't unlock my phone!

Hi guys. I have a problem a bit similar to the ones I read earlier but my problem is that I entered my PIN code and phone didn't recognize it. Now I should have an option to enter PUK code and everything would be fine, but I don't have that option. My screen says: "Take a look at the manual or contact with your service provider" (something like this, my phone language is Polish so I may translate something not correctly). I did take a look at the manual but there was nothing that could solve my problem so I'm asking you, members of xda community, is there any way to solve this problem without taking phone to my GSM provider?
If you are using custom rom try full wipe maybe it would hep
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
It didn't work, but it turn my phone language into english so I can write what it says:
"SIM card is PUK-locked."
"Please see the User Guide or contact Customer Care."
If you inputted a incorrect PIN for too many times the SIM card will lock up and require the PUK to reset the PIN failure counter - that much the phone is actually doing right.
If you don't have a possibility to enter the PUK then all you can do is to see a service point of your mobile operator to have the SIM card resetted.
There's pretty much nothing you can do as that's a security function of the GSM card and not the phone or the OS.
EDIT: Any chance entering **05*<PUK Code>*# or **05*<PUK Code>*<New PIN>*<New PIN confirm># works? (in case you can get to the dialer)
I can get to the dialer, but I didn't know that I can enter PUK there, I'll give it a try and write either it worked or not.

The second method worked! Thanks! When I use this first method it says that is either connection problem or MMI code is invalid.

need help unlocking focus flash, sim error

I didn't see a focus flash forum and it is very similar to the focus s internally so wanted to try posting here. I just got a focus flash from ebay as well as an unlock code and put my t-mobile sim in the phone. However, when I enter the code and tap enter, it says "sim error". I can cancel the unlock prompt and go to the metro ui, and there's a little sim icon with a lock on it. If I take out the sim card and restart, instead of the unlock prompt, I get a little box that says "sim error" and a message about missing or invalid sim. The little sim icon at the top has a little (/) instead of a lock. What could be the problem? It also says no network found in the cellular section of the settings.
same issue
i am having the exactly same issue with my focus flash, can any one help ?? and if the op user found out the solution please share
How many times have you tried to enter the unlock code? Id used to be (and probably still true) that trying more then five times will lock your phone permanently. You should get back to the person who provided the code and inform them of the issue. Double check your IMEI number when you contact them. One wrong digit in IMEI will generate a wrong code.

[Q] Network messages coming through in Chinese and invid MMI codes

I've recently left my i9100 for an i9305 and decided to start by flashing the equivalent to my favourite ROM from my S2, namely SlimSaber (SlimKat unoffical build with Saber Mod) from here (build 8.0).
Anyway, regrettably i never tested out the phone much with the stock software because i wanted to go strait back to the KitKat experience I'm used to. I did however unlock the phone using USSD code *#19732864# as outlined in method 3 here. I believe I followed it exactly and it worked without a hitch
With it unlocked i put in my GiffGaff SIM and the first thing I noticed was that after every text, instead of getting the regular message saying "woohoo that text was free" or relevant credit update, i just get a similar box with a load of Chinese text.
Then I realised that the proximity sensor doesn't work. I don't mean to go specifically into that problem in this thread but while researching a fix I came across some USSD codes that might help. Now I can get a few to work: *#06# to show my IMEI , *#31# (Checks outgoing caller ID settings) and *#*#4636#*#* (User statistics and Phone Info), but all others I've tried just give me "Running USSD Code" and then "Connection problem or invalid MMI Code". This includes the one I unlocked my phone with in the first place and all the ones that are supposed to help my problem. A couple of the codes (*#526# and *#528#, both for WLAN Engineering Mode) yielding more Chinese text in place of the second message. I've tried putting a coma or semi-colon after the codes to no avail.
I presume that the network messages run on the same system as USSD/MMI and that the problems are connected. Not sure if the proximity sensor issue is connected.
The fact that a code worked before, but then stopped working seems to imply that it was something to do with flashing the ROM. Can anyone confirm that custom ROMs can mess with your USSD codes? Or could the unlock process have changed something? I've tried different kernels but the problem persists. Does anyone know at what firmware level native USSD codes are defined?
Many thanks for any input.
Chinese Gibberish
In case anyone's interested i took a screen shot of the Chinese text and put it through an optical character recognition web site. This is what came out after "Processing USSD code" for *#528# :
口秀一鼬一儡公囿一 找偎偎鬟醋蝌找阡醋份一
Which Google takes as:
Mouth of a puppet show, a male ferret caught a cuddle cuddle find DW vinegar vinegar a tadpole to find a footpath
Not very meaningful but at least quite amusing.
Then where I'd normally get "woohoo that text was free", instead it reads:
囿架架栀架蘖 王含栀揪王含 王含攀砀王含 目月T秋窃沙 昀
煸攀攀 嚣架甄蹴 想锹重毛锹瀵振攀 惋渺 彗沙王含惋蔓毛翼毛
Or:
Caught rack rack rack tiller Wang Zhi Zhi pulling containing containing Wang Wang Wang Dang containing climb mesh containing sand Yun month T autumn burglary
Well despite the problems with online translation it seems like this really is pure nonsense, which at least suggests to me that this is probably some kind of data that was never meant to be interpreted as Chinese text rather than the product of an incorrect language setting somewhere. Might be wrong.
Cheers
Wrong forum, ask a moderator to move it to i9305 q&a.
Chinese sorted
Right, Chinese gibberish was sorted by flashing updated modem from here as detailed here. However I am still suffering from invalid MMIs.
I should point out that I've tried all the methods outlined here. For anyone wondering how to get a comma or semi-colon on the dialer, add two-sec pause or wait respectively from options in the bottom right corner.

[Q] Strange behaviour of Lumia 928 (asks the SIM PIN code twice)

There's something which goes beyond my understanding so I'm placing my question here if someone would know anything about it.
I purchased an unlocked Lumia 928 about 6 months ago and back then it was running on WP8.0. Been using it within Elisa (FInland) network and it's been good.
Because of Verizon's late updates I installed Developers Preview WP8.1 to it. After the installation the phone started to ask the SIM PIN code twice. After that it thinks for a while and connects me to the network.
OK, about a week ago my phone showed a message that Lumia Denim is now available. So by using Nokia/Lumia Recover tool I tried to downgrade my phone in order to get rid of DP WP8.1. After that Denim was installed. Its version number is 3051.50009.1446.0093.
When I switch my phone on, it'll still ask the SIM PIN code twice and thinks for a while. After a while it connects me to the network.
I tried (once again) to downgrade the phone but it'll only get me to the version 3051.50009.1446.0 which doesn't help me at all. So it won't go further in its downgrade process. And after that it'll still ask the SIM PIN code twice.
OK, last attempt: I made a hard reset. After setting my phone and switching it on for the first time it'll tell me that I don't have a SIM card installed but after that it'll connect me to the network.
Quite strange behaviour and I'd like to get rid of that "asks the SIM PIN code twice" procedure but I just don't know how. It seems the phone is "thinking" itself as a dual SIM phone Plus the MMS messages won't work at all.
So I'd really appreciate if someone would know a way out of this problem, whether it'd be a simple one or flashing the phone with a different SW version etc. Thanks a lot in advance!
Perhaps the second code is the code lock the Smartphone
No it's not.
When the phone asks for the SIM PIN code for the first time, it's real. I won't get any further if I don't enter the correct SIM PIN code there.
When the phone asks for the SIM PIN code for the second time, it's a fake. I can enter there a random four digit PIN code and the phone will accept it. Strange indeed.
I'd like to ask two additional questions and I'd very much appreciate if someone could answer them:
1) how to get rid of Lumia 928's MMS message issue? It's not capable of sending & receiving any MMS messages,
2) how to revert Lumia 928 back to its "from the box settings", i.e. WP8.0? Is there an unofficial way of flashing the phone etc.???
Thanks a lot in advance.
did you ask here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515453
maybe you can use that to roll back to 8.0
