[Q] NFC file share with Samsung: KO - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI everyone,
I try more than 10 times to share one pic between my brand new Z1 and my wife's S3. The transfer never starts! even the classical NFC sound didn't happened ones!
I do the same with my N7 (2013) and works every time! sound + file sharing
I have no idea why, but it looks to me that is has something to do with Album App.
Did anyone have the same issue?
Thanks in advance for your time.

Some NFC tags work with some devices while others only work with other devices. It seems to be NFC isn't really a standard yet and not all devices work well with each other. The odd thing is I have used NFC with my Z1 and my sister's S3 mini.

Didn't know the Z1 has such a big ego.

It might require a specific app in both to work. I noticed that I can't transfer anyfiles until I have file expert installed on both devices. Although with file expert I can transfer not only photos but pretty much anyfile. Probably other file explorer programs could do the same.

Thank you all for your answers and tips! Appreciate that.
I'll keep trying and let you guys know what happens...

Check to see if the "S Beam" on the S3 is off. Ran into the same problem before with friends. Turned it off and worked like a charm.

"S Beam" has to be off only on S3? or both devices?

Both

Sorry to wake this back up but I tried sending things via wifi direct from the Z1 and it isn't even listed, the procedure for sending things via Wifi Direct on the Z1 is crazy, all you need to do on other devices is to select wifi direct and it goes.
Superbeam kind of works but NFC tagging will only initiate Bluetooth, so hardly great if it's a sizeable file, like a movie or something.

Only on the S3. "S Beam" only exists and works from one Samsung device to another. Once it's off it should work like the standard android beam does.

It'll work but won't initiate WiFi direct. Just Bluetooth, which sucks.

[Q] NFC on JB

Hello.
Do you have any experience by using NFC on JB? I tried it with my friend with SGS3. On my Razr i just appeared "Touch to beam" and did nothing. My friend tried it last week between SGS3 vs. SGS3 and it worked good. They changed contacts and pictures. Do you know anybody where is the mistake?

I used it several times with my friends Galaxy Nexus. I'm on 4.1 he is on 4.2. We exchanged a play store link and some photos.
Maybe your friends S3 uses another NFC service. I think there is something like SBeam on all the Galaxy devices, but I'm not sure.

Hello there!
I have a galaxy 3 and I downloaded WatchOn apk file. It installed successfully and everything else, BUT when I try to connect to my Epson projector. It does not work, help me please.
I know this is a issue with my device because my cousin has a galaxy 4 and it works great for him. He can turn on and off the projector easy.

From what I can tell, that phone does not come with an I Blaster which is part of the hardware/build of the phone.

You can't get one. it is either built in to your phone or not. it is an IR (infrared light emitter). A GS3 does not have one. they only started using them on the S4 and the Note 3. On the Note3 it is a small round black looking plastic plug on the top end of the phone just to the right of the speaker. There is a high power IR LED behind that emits beams that can work like a remote for device and they can also be used to exchange data between to similar devices.
That being said by, if you mean by Galaxy 3 as in an S3 then you cannot use this app. On the other hand if you mean a Note 3 then you can use this app and it should require no special settings. Just follow the setup instructions in the app and you are good.

Anyone experience problems with MTP enabled music players?

Just wondering if anyone has managed to succefully use an MTP enabled music device (such as a car head unit or stereo) with an HTC one?
I have a car head unit that works fine with a $50 Android 4.0 alcatel phone but doesn't seem to work with my Android 4.3 HTC One.
Any advice is appreciated!

I don't believe there are any cars which support MTP for now. UMS is only supported in most cases and you need a car from sometime this year which by a small tiny chance will support UMS. The alcatel phone has an ext SD card, am i wrong? That allows for UMS. Sorry man but if you want an MTP player in your car, ya gotta refit the audio or get a new car. BTW here is a LINK to one of those players. Hit me up with a thanks if i helped. PM me if you have more questions

I installed a new headunit. It specifically states Android compatible (must be android 4.0+ with MTP). This is what the headunit states....So I think it is compatible. It also seems to work with a friend's Galaxy SIII, it just doesn't like my HTC.
But thank you for trying to help.

Headset mic way too sensitive

Hi All,
Got the Z1 last week about 9 dates ago as a replacement for a Samsung Galaxy S3. Generally liking it, though struggling to get used to the size of the handset. One major issue, though that I can't easily sort or find an answer to anywhere.
Basically, when I use a wired headset with inline mic for phone calls, the microphone is way too sensitive. It picks up every movement of the headphone cord, every rustle on my clothes, etc. Tried about 5 different headsets, including a dedicated Android one button Sennheiser headset. All the same. None of these proved a problem with
Anyone any ideas on what's causing it or how to fix it? Is there something simple I'm missing? It's making calls a painful experience.
Thanks in anticipation.

Nope. In one case, the headphones/headset goes back as far as an IPhone 4, so about three years ago. This is the first time I've had the issue with any of them.

Tried that. No change. S3 better than this? In this respect only. V pleased to see the back of the S3, as it constantly had firmware issues, caused, no doubt. Random battery life issues (sometimes lasting a day, sometimes a few hours), crashes, screen redraw issues, glitchy music playback. I could go on.

I think with Root you can get work anything even the sensitivity of your microphone. It can be easy like edit build.prop that something more but I am sure the sensitivity can be managed. If I find something I will post.

I can't see why it would not seeing it's a bluetooth 4.0 low energy device ...

Still no real answer ... I've got the box in front of me, so before opening it I'd like to know if it could work or not, seeing that if I open the box, I won't be able to get a refund.
Will it tether internet? Possibly, only if blackberry no longer makes you use the bb network.
Will it sync? Doubtful.

where do you get this NULL firmware? im waiting for my gear watch to get here and i have a z30...
want to PM me your PIN we can BBM and figure this out together
acutally you can get internet to work... i have successfully gotten internet to work via bluetooth tethering etc... you need null rom etc,
the only thing i cant figure out is how to get notifications... with os 10.2.1 gear manager works but never connects to the device due to it needing to download addition apks... however when you go to install said apks, they never download and isntall... idk why... but without those additional apks i dont think gear manager will work... i have tried to extract them from an android device aka nexus 4 and no go, no apk extractor sees the apks...i dont know where they are located on the android device to extract them...
oh well... no notifications but i did get internet to work via BT tether on bb10
i have my gear working with my Z10 for phone calls and bluetooth tethering for data also, just no notifications or contact details (when getting a phone calls) anyone have these working yet?

once i rooted the gear and put the null rom on it, i just manually paired the two together through the bluetooth menu. as for the tethering, with the null rom, you have to add the pdanet application through the rom install page. then i installed an android port (just through snap or droid store) called FoxFi which gives it that ability.
Again, its still limited at the moment so any ideas on how to get the notifications working would be appreciated
