[OFFICIAL] Rooting will not invalidate warranty

On the LG Italian Facebook page i found an interesting news: rooting will not invalidate the warranty
Here's the page http://www.facebook.com/notes/lg-italia-lifes-good/gestione-degli-smartphone-con-permessi-di-root-attivi-in-garanzia/10150205338062585.
Using unofficial ROMs is permitted too
It's in italian so if you want to read it use google translate
they also say that it refers to the models of LGE Italy... so not sure if it's a worldwide thing... i never know...
would be great if it extended to other countries. I'll send a mail to our local LG and see what comes up
I dont think so, if you root and overclock ur processor till it melts and u take it back to the shop will they replace it????
Give it a go and let me know how u get on
wow. the first company that actually permits rooting and flashing custom roms.
wish they would extend their Policy worldwide cause italian LG did not mention about other countries.
lucky italian LG customers, they almost can do anything with their phone now without being scared of bricking their phone.
Sounds rly too good to be true. Isnt it a worldwide policy? There is no reason only to privilege the italians

Just heard back from LG Hellas, and it's a definitive NO. Google translated cause i'm a lazy bastard:
We would like to inform you, LG Electronics Hellas and intends in the near future to pursue a policy of freedom of establishment "Custom Android" mobile of. The installation of such registration software automatically puts the device out of warranty and please do not proceed with this action.

actually it isn't just LG, Samsung allowed rooting and flashing as well.
although i'm not sure what's their stand now but lots of people send in galaxy spica without the original roms cause of a bad flash which cause the imei to corrupt
They still fix it anyway.
Anyway most phones are mostly unbrickable unless you attempt to flash the bootloader.
So generally most will cover it, and if a brick occurs due to a dead bootloader you won't be able to even switch it on most of the time.
Still great news for those who don't know how to get back to the original or even find their original ROMs
Most of their warranty are close to that of a desktop PC warranty, as long as it isn't cause by misuse they will fix it.
I don't even see warranty void stickers on my Optimus 2X and Samsung Galaxy Spica.
But it can vary from country to country.
eg Japan Wii it uses standard + screws but everywhere else in the world uses triwing
Oh yeah! Also if I rooted mine same day I got it

Thumbs up to the italians!

[Q] LG Optimus Black Bricked

Hello All,
My OB is bricked, i was flashing it with smartflash tool and installing official lg optimus gb image, but suddenly it was bricked. Now it is not starting, not even in download mode, no signal of power.
Any ideas?
It caused bcoz of loose cable connection.
While flashing any ROM, cable should have intact connectivity..

Probably a hard brick, bring it to a lg service center. Tell them you tried to update your phone and all of a sudden the update stopped and now it doesnt react anymore.

ok, but is there any other way?
In case of hard rest, as N00BY0815 said, only way is to take the phone to LG service center, but you have to take precaution regarding:
Take out the memory card and keep at ur home, in case you rooted the phone, otherwise they will know that U rooted the phone and reject the warranty.
i dont think rooting is against warranty everywhere does your pc recognises it when you plug it in while holding p
volume+ ?
(check in manage computer)

He already said, it doesnt even turn on in download mode, so there is no chance to revive it. LG will not know, if it was rooted or not, since noone can turn it on and check it. So just do what i told you above and everything should be good again

This is software error not hardware error. They can't charge you buying new free software.
If its hardware error, in this case, then the problem is not caused by the root and they can't reject warrenty (at least in Europe, I'm pretty sure in most places they'll get away with it.)
EDIT
@Nooby
If they can't access it through new bootloader they have to use JTAG equipement and then you can read and write to flash memory.

I have not much knowledge like xonar and N00BY0815,
Maybe they used JTAG or something ..bcoz at first they try to know whether it is rooted and non-rooted to get reject the phone here.
At that time, I contacted the most senior developers here in XDA, they also suggested that there is nothing to do if the phone is not turning on, & take it to service center...(the case is of LG P500)
That's strange. When I hard bricked mine, they kept my phone 3 weeks to finally say that it was the motherboard which died (I flashed a P990 rom by mistakes, it was for a friend but I forgot it in my sdcard).

11 days ago i installed cm10 nightly 11-14-12 after using the rom about 4 days, suddenly while charging my phone turn off and didn't turn on again. It can't enter sw upgrade. When i send it to the lg service center they said that it was a motherboard problem and need to replace it. It cause P9,000 (about $214). What the F**K! The brand new Optimus black here cause around P13,000 ($309). My warranty is already expired so i decided not to replace the motherboard and wait for the release of nexus 4 here in my country.
That time i'm using blackberry charger 5v output. Do you guys think that the hardbricked has also something related to the charger?

Screen broke - what would you do

So my screen just broke and i'm in doubt between buying an aftermarket screen for about $20 and repairing it, or just say f*** this unstable piece of crap and buy the optimus 4x speed. So what would you do? Any suggestions for other phones? Any review on aftermarket screens? How easy is it to replace?
Thanks for your help and suggestions in advance,
Sincerely,
you're buying 4x? LOL you're buying a phone that doesn't have developers support, lock bootloader and no custom rom i visit 4x section sometimes but their development section is empty, i suggest send your o2x on lg to repair or search on youtube "how to disassemble optimus 2x"

It depends on how addicted you are to flashing roms. If you don't mind stable roms, and probably a very very slow 4.1 update, get the 4x.
If you simply need updates and the newest OS, repair the 2x. Honestly though, I think it wouldn't go as far as the 4x in terms of eventual updates, but still, it's nice to be able to modify your phone.
Yes i didn't notice the lack of custom Roms on the 4x this afternoon, so what phone would you buy? I mean the price of the 4x is awesome for the hardware you get, and if i'm able to root it i'm happy. But i also like to flash custom roms alot so do any of you know a good alternative instead of the 4x for the same pricE? Locked bootloader is kinda sucky .
I would really like to repair my 2x but i'm so tired of it and afraid that if i do change the screen i'll wreck the entire thing, and i'm not sure i wanna take the risk or just buy a new phone
Nexus 4. Don't know if it's cheaper or costlier in your country, but it's generally much cheaper. Beats the 4x easily in all fields, the only thing it lacks is a memory card slot. Availability is an issue at the moment, but if you can get your screen repaired for cheap now, then you can sell it after some time and get a nexus
I had the same problem. Repair the touch screen is very complicated, not because it's difficult disassemble the phone, but because the real display is glued to the touch screen with a particular clue. When you try to remove the display you can break it. It happened to me.
Repair and sell !

A couple of weeks ago I dropped my P990 onto asphalt and broke the glass. I taped it up using scotch tape to avoid glass splinters in my ears, and I'm just about getting used to all the cracks by now. I won't be trying to repair it, so I've got a nexus 4 on preorder. Hopefully it'll arrive before the tape crumbles...
Tl;dr: buy a nexus 4
This is a great reason to go get galaxy s3
Nexus 4! Don't bother with the 4x
They don't sell Nexus 4 in my country, because of LG, so yeah that sucks
I could get a Galaxy Nexus for about the same price
+1 for nexus 4 (except if you are addicted in slow updates and lg ui so go for optimus G(same hardware but i think quite costier))

Yeah but is it Gorilal glass? They say it's OEM in most cases, but don't specify wich type of glass this is. Last time i bought a replacement screen was for my X10 wich also was supposedly OEM but when installed i found out it was some kind of cheap plastic wich would never work comfortably as a touch screen. And it looks too complicated i would have to buy a hobby knife 3 sets of tweezer and a hair dryer only to switch the screen on my phone

They don't sell Nexus 4 or Optimus G in my country :'(
I broke the screen on my HD2, ordered one online for 15-20e , found a guy that repairs them, got friendly making mobile phones conversation and he changed it for 20e, sold the hd2 for 200e(I now regret it though) I would sell the o2x if course, it's nice but not the hd2. I actually am selling it

Me too, my screen was broken. I repaired at a workshop with 30 euros. The changed screen was old, taken from another phone ...
I also broke my screen and I had it replaced at a workshop. After the repair, the light sensor was not working so I had to return it to the workshop and wait another 3 day before they finally fix it.
The repair process including the new(?) screen was around 80Euro (~105$).
Get a new phone, upgrade excuse.
I got it replaced in a little Phone repair shop, they did a good Job, it cost 140 euro, but we got it back from ensurance because it happend on a holiday

As some people already said, it's the perfect excuse for getting a Nexus 4. You'll have a lot more support than with the 4X considering it's an official Nexus phone.

[Q] Optimus Black real brick recovery?

Hey all
I just flashed the new V30B Europe Open on my OB, but I thought I'd give it a try via the CWM Inject method, also, so I could have CWM.
Do not bash me....I did not read the stuff about the locked bootloader sh** LG has sticked in. And now I am sorry.
Fact: I now have a really black Optimus Black. Nothing pops on screen, looks completely dead, no SW recovery, nothing. No LG Security Error screen.
Is there any way I can fix this?
I'm not sure I want to go in service as LG Romania are complete idiots. They wanted to do a phone mobo change on a phone that just needed a plain fw reflash via sw upgrade mode, for three of my friends.
I am not afraid of tearing stuff apart, and other hobby electronics voodoo, but I need to know if I can fix this somehow without a mobo/chip replacement.
Many many thanks,
Val.

Hey, no, that's exactly the problem, it's in dead boot state. No download mode, no charging screen, nothing.
From what I see by looking online, I can only hope for a jtag rewrite of the stuff in this case.
I don't have the tools/skills for a jtag rewrite with pads so small, so I will find a service that will do it with proper hardware.
As I was just saying, I found some LG service technician (friend of a friend of a friend...etc), and he confirmed that they would only do full mobo change, and charge me with the price of the new piece, even though most of the time they use refurbished service replacements.
Oh, well.....I do smthg for ONE time without documenting....and look what I get.
Cheers,
Val
