[Q] is there a way to access SD card thru the bootloader - Moto X Q&A

Royaly messed up my phone, once again thru modding. No harm really. Before i wiped the system, I did make a backup of the data, and saved it on my SD card. Now my phone is not booting up at all, but I can access the bootloader. If there any way I can access my SD card, so I can pull the data, erase everything and RSD back to stock?
If not, its cool, I will just RSD / stock

Uh.. the phone doesn't have an sd card slot.. so no.

If you look at the file system, the storage area is called sdcard. The op was asking about that.

Use the tool here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2597625
I'm fairly certain you can flash back to stock without wiping your data. After that, I'd recover your data and do a full wipe using that same utility.
Good luck.

[Q] Does installing new ROM on the XL erase data

As stated in the title, does flashing a new ROM erase data on the built-in flash drive such as contacts, apps, appdata, music, videos, pictures etc?
I'm rather new to ROM flashing.
short answer: Yes with an If, long answer: No -- with a But...
When flashing a new ROM to an Android phone its a good idea to do as its creator has advised and wipe data/factory reset and wipe dalvik cache all via ClockworkMod recovery, that way there is no additional bloat ware or old system data to gum up the works,, anything stored on the phone (contacts/system data) is erased anything on the 'internal storage' (8GB or so on the XL) or memory card is spared, so anything backed up to there will be safe
Its worth making note that when first installing a ROM, most if not all work on A2SD/ADSD+/+ etc, this is where your given the option to store app data on the memory card, in devices where you can take out the memory card you will need to format it (via ClockWorkMod recovery) and sort out the size of your 'hidden' EX3/4 partition that app data is stored on. formating and partitioning yor memory card wipes everything on it so back it up to a PC before doing anything!
Additional Note: Since the XL has internal storage make sure you get everything you want off it first then when we have CWM working on the XL format the crap out of the internal storage and have fun!

Ahhhh I see. So if I want to flash a new ROM, I have to back up everything on my own then manually re-enter them.
Thanks for enlightening.
Pretty much yeh, always a good idea to manually do a backup every now and again,, once you have your ex3/4 partition apps data will be restored when you reinstal the app, also Titanium Backup w/root permissions on a fully ROMd device will restore data in the same way too (if you backup with root access the first time etc)

how to mount ext4 /data from CWM recovery?

I have a Galaxy S GT i9000 and I managed to install CWM Recovery 2.5.1.0 on it after I accidentally selected backup (to internal sd)..
I want to get the data off the internal SD but miui won't boot. I have EXT4 filesystem.
if I try boot it never gets past samsung logo.
I havn't been able to use my phone for a month now because of this problem.
I didn't want to try fix it straight away when it broke incase I did something to lose all my data..
I was getting major FC's on everything i opened, it wasn't bad at first, but than FC's came more and more regularly, until I can't open any apps.
than the phone would boot loop after boot animation. now after trying to backup the internal SD, I accidentally backed up to internal SD. phone won't boot.
this happened at my god father's funeral "after meeting". I was using phone and suddenly it doesn't work.
I recorded very important video from god father's funeral i promised to make video for god fathers wife.
I really need my data and at least want to be able to mount ext4 from CWM recovery to copy data to windows. or somehow reinstall MIUI without wiping /data.
I thank you in advanced for your help.
I looked for a month and couldn't find anything.
There are 2 things I can think of,
1. Use ADB to pull from sd card, I'm not sure if you need to be in recovery or download mode, check it out.
2. When you format you phone you don't delete your sd card so it should all be saved. You will loose all you apps etc but not your data.
If you want to save the exact format you phone is in, try flash the rom again. If its through odin then you will factory reset. (Again you wont loose your internal sd card contents).
I've managed to get my data back now thank you for the suggestions

Help I cannot log into my phone

Hello,
So I was trying to install ICS on my nexus one... and like the idiot I am I made a NANDROID backup of my phone right before continuing with the installation of BlackRose. I made a partition of my SD card in Clockwork Recovery. With 1GB and a 256mb swap.
I rebooted the phone and see that my SD card is empty. Which probably meant my NANDROID backup was erased?
Is there a way I could recover this??? I just want my SD card data back .
And like a bigger idiot, I went back into Clockwork Recovery and did a factory wipe, (I thought I still had my nandroid backups), I tried to restore, but there was nothing in the SD card.
My main problem is that I want to restore my phone back to what it was... before I partitioned the SD card.
Right now I have a phone that is completely wiped and I cannot restart it because the setupwizard is bugged and force closes when I try to skip plus I don't have a system keyboard installed or a system launcher.
Stop using your sdcard for writing data and try this while the sdcard is connected via a card reader.

While you're at it, drop the SWAP partition. A waste of perfectly usable 256MB. You can find plenty of places where it's explained, why SWAP is a bad idea for Android.
Hey Jack_R1
How do I delete the partition?

partition sd card in recovery 0Mb for swap
while your at it hit THANKS for the guys on TOP ^_^
I've recovered the nandroid backup files.
My microsd card is completely empty.
Where do I go from here to restore the backup?
Do I make a folder in the root as clockworkmod/backup/ and put the files in there?
I've tried that and i keep get Md5 mismatch! Error.

[Q] Formatted everything, don't know where to start

I had some huge problem with my Nexus One and I wanted to start over completely, so I stupidly went to CWM recovery and hit format boot, cache, data, sdcard, system, and sd-ext. For some reason I didn't realize this would make my phone unusable and make it have no OS. So now when I turn on the phone it goes straight to the fastboot menu, so I can only access the fastboot, bootloader, and CWM recovery.
I've tried formatting my microSD card and putting a stock PASSIMG.zip file (located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312540) on my microSD card but the bootloader doesn't detect the PASSIMG.zip file.
Can anyone give any guidance on what I can do now?
Thanks
FIXED. This seems to happen to me so often-- things suddenly working after I already make a thread about my problems. But I discovered that the microSD card was corrupt so that's why it never actually had the PASSIMG.zip file on it. Everything is back to normal, and I restored factory settings :good:

How to restore Internal memory photos(data/media) after CWM Format Data command

Hi,
I have Samsung Galaxy S3 I9305 phone. It had a logo stuck issue. Then I rooted the phone and flash CWM recovery using ODIN3.
Then I made the CWM backup to the SD card. Then I wipe the dalvik cache and wipe data/factory reset. Since still phone is not booted I misunderstood the steps and mistakenly did the CWM format /system and format /data. then I did nothing. Now the phone is not booting. It only goes to model no display screen. I read that even when formatting data, It only deletes the table of contents(pointers) and not the actual data. Now please tell me that, were all photos in internal memory lost? Can I recover photos in internal memory using recovery utility?.
Wiping system means NO OS. Just flash a new ROM and you'll be fine. Also this dosen't need to be a Q&A Thread, it's better if it is just a Normal Thread.
Thanks for the quick reply. Actually my question was even though I formatted the system and data, Can I restore data in the internal memory?. I need only internal memory photos. I have read that I even formatted the data, table of contents is deleted and data is still available.
If its still there, flash the exact same ROM you flashed before the accident then if its still not there then use DiskDigger from GPlay. If DiskDigger can't find it then it can't be recovered ever again
Quick question Jeri. I have backup the ROM using CWM recovery AFTER the accident to external SD card. Back up has the following files:
boot.img
recovery.img
system.ext4.tar
system.ext4.tar.a
system.ext4.tar.b
It was the stock ROM(I mean original OS, which phone had when I bought the phone).
So please tell me that what to do next? sorry about my lack of knowledge of this area.
is any body there to help me on this matter? only experts can ask questions on this site?
I flashed the ROM using ODIN. I used the I9305XXUFNL1_I9305H3GFNL1_I9305XXUFOA1_HOME.tar.md5 file for flashing. But I'm not sure it is correct. But still my phone is not booting, and stopping at logo screen. What do I do next?
