As the title states, my signals both data and calls have been notably weaker than they previously once were on 4.2.2, my journey is exactly the same and a friend of mine who has the same tariff as me has had no change. I'm using the EE radio/baseband which is what network I am on, so I can't figure out what the problem could be.
Any ideas or anyone else in a similar boat who hasn't had these issues and what you've done to maintain the same signal would be great.
Cheers.

My signal go up and down even in the same place so to me is weird. On some HTC device this has been solved flashing the Radio only. I will be glad if on Z1 this can be done as well but I think we can't so I don't know how to improve the signal if not flash an entire FTF.
I have no problem with reception, even in places with thick walls. My friends are struggling to get fast internet connection and its as fast as outdoors for me. Try flashing generic ftf.

Just grab an ftf of your choice, then exclude everything except baseband and don't wipe. That would work, I've tried a few but haven't noticed any change to be honest.
I still have signal but nowhere near as much as I did on previous phones with the same network.

I was thinking about that way but the baseband still the same in almost all FTF. This is why we do not have improvement. On HTC the Radio was always improved. Some Dev should extract the baseband and get it work better if there is some way.

Yea I hope so, because my signals are significantly weaker.
I'm currently visiting my home town and in places where I had 4G before I'm only getting 3G and have missed a tonne of calls.
Being on 4.2.2 was absolutely fine.
Would the baseband from a 4.2 ROM work OK on a 4.3 ROM? I only ask as if its not an issue to flash it, I personally think it would help signal strength.
Seems like all I'm ever doing is hoping that things will improve on this phone. I've never known instability like this on a rooted handset before. I believe the kinks will be ironed out eventually though.

Looking to get the LT30a for use on T-Mobile USA's "4G" (really 3.5G) but having a hard time locating online retailers caring this phone. Any advice? I was considering on getting the LT28H until I saw the LT30a (in white) and fell in love; well really lust :silly:
Thanks!
Check ebay. There are some reputable sellers on there

Thanks I found some but they are a little out of my budget. I might settle for the TL28H instead as the two phones seem almost identical.
Was hoping T-mobile would pickup the Z, but no word yet

Yeah that would rock. Know of anyone who has ported T-Mobiles WiFi calling to these Xperias?

No, unfortunately. There are special drivers needed as it shuts down the part of the cellular function in order to save battery so it's not as easy as just installing an app. Also, the new T-mobile wifi calling for ICS and JB is now part of the system instead of an addon app like the gingerbread one. Luckily I moved to a place where reception is good, because I used to have to rely on WiFi calling all the time.

Well that's a shame. I had heard that it was a driver/kernel issue. I'm using one of those CelFi repeater units from T-Mobile as I was an original BETA tester for the pilot project back in 2010. The unit works well but I recently move from Miami to DC and my area has HORRIBLE T-Mobile signal; im in a true dead zone. The repeater window unit only pics up 1 bar at best :/ and them tries to amplify it to 5 bars in the house which works well but the speed stinks. So I just use WiFi calling 99.9% of the time. This now has me worried about jumping onto one of these non T-Mobile branded Android phones.
Yeah, I know how you feel. The only hope is once the LTE network is up and running that they will be more aggressive in getting other phones, but I am not going to hold my breath.

As u know that with latest android update 4.2.2 Google turn off the lte access. No worries
It just the radios so just roll back to previous radios .33 or .24

Just go to this thread and download the modems and flash in recovery and guess what lte is back.....

well thats kind of common sense to be honest.
not really a fix but a workaround
has this worked for you by any chance?
I just finished doing this myself. It works, you just need to flash the 4.2.1 radio .33 over top of 4.2.2 and it works fine

Rolling back to the .33 radio on 4.2.2 broke phone call volume.
Returning to .48 fixes it.

I'm talking about the baseband update, not the actual 4.2.2 OS update. I've updated to 4.2.2 but downgraded the baseband, which has nothing to do with the media scanner bug.
I'm wondering what specific improvements/changes were made in the new baseband.
Do I have to be rooted to flash an old radio?

You need to have an unlocked bootloader at least to flash in fastboot.

Ohh, erm, **** knows.
Finding mine locks onto 3G better, slightly better signal, less battery usage.
I wouldn't go back to .33, even if there were LTE services in my area... I bought the phone knowing it wasn't a 4G phone, so I have lost nothing.

I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to use the newer baseband... LTE service here is amazing, and I am talking a huge difference (HSPA+ DC I get around 8mbps and 120ms ping, where with LTE I get over 40mbps and 18ms ping). Not sure if I want to give that up!!

The network could quite easily lock out your phone at any time anyway, as each handset identifies itself on LTE, so they only have to put a block on N4 ID strings, if they wanted to and use the non-approved card...

Then it's the radio. I can confirm this is the case. Before I downgraded I had dropping 4g signal and the speeds were 50% less, at the same location.
Yesterday I reverted back to 1.29 and I'm experiencing no 4g drops when moving in the train and I'm getting speeds up to 20mbps now.
Solution: s-off your phone and run the 1.29 ruu. I can guarantee better results if you started experiencing data issues lately

I was having this issue tons on the old radio, since updating to the 1.31 update radio, I get much better LTE/EVDO hand-off and more consistant reception.
The new radio is much better for me as well... the old radio refused to go from 3G to 4G even with a strong 4G signal present (a few hundred feet from the tower). The new one has been much more reliable for me. I can even use 3G in areas where it was previously not usable by me, and my calls no longer drop at home.
I guess it all depends on your location. I've had horrible experiences with it.

Out of curiosity, where are you located? In my area, Ericsson is doing the NV rollout. It might be that the old radio works better in Samsung or Alcatel-Lucent areas.

How are you determining who is doing the update?
Radio images are very dependent on the area. We have only 2 to play with sadly.
Honestly, I would say reflash the radio.img from 1.31 (sorry idk the baseband number, too lazy to check phone). Did you flash all the other firmware bits as well? Perhaps you flashed a new ROM or even the stock ROM which writes to EPST. Many devs don't customize EPST settings on their stock-based ROMs and it can be simply a ##DATA# edit that could be causing issues / slowness. But if the radio reflash doesn't fix or improve anything, just flash the old radio. But again, radio depends on area for most things.

Interesting that you seem to think that it is the phone straight away, probably not, very likely to be other wifi networks in your area affecting your signal on the router. I no that the signal is not the greatest but these sort of things are likely to affect it more.

Every update seems to have it's own bugs, this is very annoying from Sony. I can get my Wi-Fi back by switching the WiFi off then back on from phone settings.
