So I went to use my CC and all of the sudden it says it cant connect to the internet. It is successfully connected to my 2.4ghz wireless network as well. It has not taken the new OTA yet.
I have rebooted my router and done a factory reset on the CC as well.
Any other ideas?

Is it still happening?
When Google Services had their Problems recently I'm sure many CCasts reported no Internet access because google uses a connection to Google services to determine if Internet is there.

I think it is over but perhaps doing a power cycle on the CCast would clear up the issue.

Are you rerouting the Google DNS? I just had a new CC yesterday and also said it couldn't connect to the internet. As soon as I stopped the routing on the router it connected fine. After that I re-enabled routing for Google DNS and all seems fine.

Does it ever reach a "Ready to cast" state? Mine is still on 14975 but usually reports "Cannot reach the Internet" after rebooting. Within 5-10 minutes to goes to a normal "Ready to cast" state though.

As of late, it does not.
I let it sit this morning for at least a half hour and it just sat on the reconnect me screen.
Contacted Google and they are sending me a replacement CC.
Hopefully this will fix the issue.
Thanks everyone for your help so far.
Update: Got the replacement, still a no go.
Looks like it has something to do with my router.
Any suggestions?

Hmm, Google says 3.0.0.4.276 worked. No mention of 3.0.0.4.374 there or in the Router Known Issues & Workarounds so not quite sure.
Might be worth looking for and toggling some of the settings mentioned in the Workaround column of Router Known Issues & Workarounds though.

So Chromecast is giving the "Connected to __(your network)__ but connect reach the Internet" message?
Check whether there are any MAC restrictions or parental controls enabled. The best test is to assign a DHCP address to a computer, test its Internet connectivity, then change the computer's address (or switch to automatic) and set the same address to Chromecast, then reboot router and Chromecast (so it gets the new address). That should rule out any IP-based restrictions or filters.

Yes, that is the error I am getting on my TV screen.
The wireless MAC filter is disabled and parental control and DNS filtering are off as well.
How do I set an IP address on the CC?
Update: Looking through my router logs and heres what I found. The CC is getting an IP address automatically from DHCP. Shows up as an active connection under wireless clients. Now active connections is where it gets interesting. My CC keeps trying to reach 173.194.115.33:443 which is a Google IP address but it cant. It either states TIME_WAIT or UNREPLIED . Now I am able to ping that IP with no problems from other devices on my network.

I plugged in the Chromecast and put in all the information and waited while it tried to connect to my Actiontec router. (Verizon FIOS) I waited, and waited and waited. After about 10 minutes it goes back to the beginning. The help button says I need to turn off the Access Point Isolation on my router. Unfortunately there's no such setting. I'm not happy because I have 3 more of these coming tomorrow and if I can't connect to my network I'm shot. Panic starts to set in.
Luckily, I have a cheap $30 Fry's wifi router on my network. I switched the Chromecast to the Fry's router and, bam, it connected immediately.
So, if your cable company's router doesn't work, just go out and buy a cheapo wifi router and you'll be fine.
The joy that is reading Verizon FiOS/Actiontec entrails
Deep voodoo Actiontec solution: You need to disable the IGMP Proxy.
The exact location of this checkbox changes between Actiontec revs but a good start is "Advanced/Routing/Routing Protocols/Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)."
Once this is off network devices typically can discover & connect to eachother.
Another strategy is, on the latest revs, enabling IPv6 (no, after years of promises Verizon still hasn't rolled IPv6 out yet, but at least the latest routers might be ready.) Anyhow, this is often reported to resolve local connectivity issues.
Just for reference, I have the newest Fios Actiontec router, and had no problems. Just so everyone with that router doesn't think they'll necessarily need to do this.

Good point. Mine's about 6 years old, maybe I should get them to replace it.
I had the same problem. Turned off NAT, connected, then turned NAT on
Guess this is reason #153 why I'm glad I have a Linksys router piggy-backed off of the crappy FIOS unit for the majority of my networking needs
A tip if upgrading to a newer Actiontec router: The settings backup files are *not* compatible between versions.
I upgraded to the latest router version six months ago; I'd done a lot of customizing (assigning addresses, ports, etc) and assumed it'd be an easy switch. I ended up having to temporarily return my newer router to get back my old, screenshot many pages of settings, return the old for new, then re-enter settings. A hassle, but it does run better now.
Assuming the local depot/storefront has 'em in stock it's a few minutes to swap out for a newer or newest revision.
Coincidentally I had a visit a week later to replace a burnt-out-again ONT & the tech reported he'd changed things around a bit in it for even better service. I've no idea what that involved but if it's been a long time you might want to look into a service call.

Some Help
I also picked up a Chromecast yesterday and am on Verizon Fios with the new Actiontec MI424WR router. I cannot get my Chromecast to connect. Sometimes I see it on the network, but it will not connect. Verizon, Actiontec, and so far Google have not been able to help me. I tried the tricks in this posting, but no luck.
I have a Buffalo Air Station wireless router, but have not had success operating this in conjunction with the Fios service (I have tried to bridge it, and run it just off ActionTec). Can someone help? I am okay at digging into this stuff, but you guys know so much more than me!

The instructions below worked for me. Found it in an Apple Forum out of all places.
log in to your router(192.168.1.1), go to Wireless Settings then Advanced Security Settings. At the bottom of the screen, click "Other Advanced Wireless Options". On the next screen change Network from "Network (Home/Office)" to "Broadband". Click Apply
Just curious but it could be that you have multicasting disabled on the router.
It could also be that the router does not support multicasting in general, but this is a feature that allows devices to discover each other on a private network.

I am having the same issue with DIR 655 router. Tried all the suggestion in this thread. But still no luck. Anyone having similar problem with DIR 655?
I'm having a similar problem. I've got a Linksys router that is happily supplying WiFi to my laptop, mobile phone, Kindle Fire, and XBox, but I can't get Chromecast to work properly. I get partially into the setup and then get the following message -- "Chromecast connected to [Name of Network], but can't connect to the internet." I've fiddled with countless settings to no avail. AP/Isolation mode is disabled, I've only got 2.4 GHz bands, the router is 20 ft away, etc. All the suggestions the Google Help guy gave me have had zero effect, so I thought I'd post here to see if anyone else ran into this error message and had a solution.

OK! finally found the issue. If your wifi password is too long(auto generated for WPA2) then chromecast cannot handle it. Reducing the length of router password fixed it. I reduced it to ~20 characters. Have not tested the pw length limit of cast.

My password is only 9 characters, and I have tried everything else suggested here. Anyone else have any ideas on how to get it to work?
I'm also having a similar issue with my DIR-601. I am able to detect my Chromecast but after the screen that asks for the WiFi info /renaming the Chromecast, I get an error stating that we were unable to find Chromecast on your network. I have checked that UPnP and have Enable IPv4 Multicast Streams selected (tried both ways.) I don't have any special firewall rules or anything like that. My pass is only 8 characters.
Wish Google had better support for this, all they have is a little questionnaire on their support page.If anyone finds a solution, please share. Thanks
Out of curiosity where is the enable multicast option at? I didn't see one.

None of the suggestions in this thread worked for me. I have the Actiontec Gen 3, rev I router (MI424WR-GEN3I), with firmware v. 40.20.7.
Apparently, the UPnP page is hidden, but can be accessed after logging in to the router using: 192.168.1.1/index.cgi?active_page=900. Changing the settings on this page didn't work either.
After a quick Google, I found an IGMP hidden page at 192.168.1.1/index.cgi?active_page=6059. I looked at these settings yet.
Calling Verizon's Expert Care, I was told that they don't support UPnP, since they only provide access to the Internet.
Fix found ... at least for me

I had the same issues as everyone else at both my office and my house. At home, I changed the IGMP settings, the UPnP settings, the security settings, etc. I finally figured out a way to make it work by simply trying to complete the setup from my laptop instead of my Droid 4. It worked on the first try at my house, and now all of my phones, tablets and computers can cast to the big tv. I immediately brought my laptop to the office and changed the IGMP setting -- and it immediately worked after that.
So maybe a solution is to try setting it up from your computer instead of your phone/tablet? It worked for me twice that way!

did you try putting the CC in the DMZ?
I don't have the CC yet, so I don't know if it needs any ports open in your firewall. Is there any way to manually enter a private IP or DNS info?
From what you're describing, the Chromecast isn't getting the DNS information.

DMZ could be the solution. Try disabling AP isolation under your router's setup UI.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2
The AP (access point) he probably doesn't have setup anyway since that's more for bridging.
I just don't know if CC needs any ports forwarded. He may want to see what IP is being assigned to his CC and then check the firewall logs to see if any traffic is being blocked by it. The DMZ on his router should place the CC in front of the router and thus let all traffic to and from it, which should, in theory, fix the DNS problem.
It maybe to worth a shot to port foward port 53, which is usually used for DNS. I don't remember if it was UDP or TCP or both. And sometimes you still need to port forward even when using the DMZ. It's lame, but router's just act funny sometimes.
====================
it just dawned on me, it might be that CC is getting it's internet access from the device that's getting the content. So, you may need to enable internet sharing on your PC. Although, I don't think this is the case.
I also was getting the "connected to wireless, but can't access the internet" What I determined is that the ChromeCast is NOT using the DNS servers provided by my DHCP server, it was trying to communicate to a different DNS (likely Google's own).
In my case, I had a firewall in place that prevented access to any DNS other than what I was providing in DHCP. Once I opened the restriction and allowed all DNS traffic, chromecast immediately connected.
Hope this helps someone else.

Interesting. In my case, it was the opposite. I had my laptop configured to use Google's DNS servers and I kept on getting the same "connected to wireless, but can't access the internet" message. I reset the DNS servers on my laptop and Chromecast immediately connected to the Internet.
anyone know which port/s does chromecast use
DMZ worked for me but i dont like putting devices on DMZ. Sounds like this is just a port forwarding issue and putting it on DMZ is an overkill.
Anyone knows which port/s does chromecast use???
I also have the Belkin N300 and was having the same trouble. What i did was a factory reset on my router and a firmware update in the router settings and now everything seems to be working fine as of now.
AP Isolation
Switching off AP Isolation fixed the issue for me. I had the same issue before I did this.

I tried this too, even porting, but no luck..
tried every single suggestion but cant figure out what is wrong.
What i understand from the replies; it needs some specific DNS. But when i change my DNS on my routers setting page different than provided my ISP, router itself doesnt connect to internet.
DMZ, MAC filtering, disabling Firewall, disabling AP, none of them work so far; with numerous combination of those...
I believe it shouldnt be that hard.. ?
Update: Placing it in DMZ took a couple of retries but have fixed the issue now.

I don't really have more suggestions. From what I know, the CC doesn't need any special DNS information because really all the CC is just a media player (although not exactly correct). When you cast something to it, the device (mobile device or PC) you're sending it a URL, which it then opens and can play. This is why it needs an internet connection. Tab casting is a little different. Thus, if it'll play on your mobile device or PC, you can play it on the CC (assuming the content is CC compatible). If there is not internet to the CC, then the DNS and ISP information is not being forwarded to the CC or it's not connecting to them; this assumes it's getting an private IP from the router and not being denied because of MAC filtering or something.
Over here I've got another problem. My current ISP forces me to use their DNS. Since the Chromecast has its own fixed Google DNS (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4), the Chromecast is not allowed to connect to the internet.

I had the same issue with the original firmware (12072).
After leaving it connected a few days it eventually stayed connected long enough to download an update.
After restarting it, it applied the update.
On firmware 13300 it complains when it initially boots, then after about a minute or two it connects successfully.
So...
If you're rooted, use FlashCast to update to PwnedCast 1.0 (based on 13300)
If you're not root-capable or have no plans to root, set it up and leave it at the "but can't connect to the Internet" for a few days (just leave it powered by the power adapter), then power-cycle it, hopefully you will see it updating.

Good advice.
Remember that the WiFi bands (channels) are not exactly the same between countries. So if you're in a non-US country and your router happens to choose a channel that is not available in the US, Chromecast may not detect your wireless AP.
But Telus is Canadian, and Canada has the same WiFi channels as the U.S. (Canada and the U.S. necessarily share identical radio spectrum allocation).

Didn't know that. Thanks! Still applies to other countries though. I think Channel 13 is one of the channels that applies to Europe but not US. I should put it in the FAQ...
EDIT: Seems there's far less exclusion than I thought... but added a note in the FAQ just in case.

So I can get through the setup phase up until the Chromecast tries to connect to my wifi network. I get a message saying it couldn't connect, and when I click the link in the message it brings me to a page that mentions AP filtering, UPNP enabling and .NET 3.5. I checked and UPNP is enabled, and I can't find an option for AP filtering (I have the Actiontech V1000h). I am using a Macbook pro.

In some cases you have to go through a couple of times. I just reset my Chromecast to test a few things and had to go through the setup twice before it connected to my WiFi.
Chromecast in Canada, on Telus
A friend lent me his chromecast. He uses an iphone and Shaw cable. I use a Nexus 4, and have Telus as my internet provider.
It was a bear trying to get chromecast to work. Tried 5 separate days. Got it to work and i could watch netflix/youtube on it about 3 times and played with it for a couple of hours each. That's the success.
The fail is that I had to trouble shoot more then 4+ hours to get it to work those 3 times. Reboot the chromecast. Reboot the router. Reboot my Nexus 4. Try my wife's Nexus 4. Try the Nexus 7 tablet. It was a horrible experience. I got the AP recommendation like the earlier post in this thread. I tried that. Tried calling telus and signed into my router to check that those settings were correct. As far as I understand it's a gateway 11n wireless router.
So my conclusion is change my internet provider to Shaw unless someone has a smart solution to this problem. The router says it's a 50ghz signal? So it isn't the 2.4vs 5.0 ghz signal problem that I've googled and read about.
Please provide some brains to my situation. I've used all of mine up.

Still not fixed.
So I took the plunge and bought one. Maybe it'd be different than my friends. Looks like this is a me problem. The chromecast still doesn't work. I thought it might be the tv that it's plugged into? Maybe shielding the chromecast from the wifi? I don't know. Will trouble shoot with a different tv or a long hdmi cable that will get the chromecast out from behind the tv. Maybe that'll help.

TVs are great at blocking/scrambling radio signals.
Use the included HDMI extender. If that doesn't help (enough), get an HDMI extension and move Chromecast away from the TV. One of mine is on a 10-foot HDMI extension. The other is connected upstream of a another device that connects to my TV, so both of my Chromecasts are at least a foot away from its associated TV.

It could be a few things not related to the router directly but related in how the Router connects to your ISP.
So a couple of questions...
What kind of service is your ISP? (DSL, CABLE, OTHER)
What Public IP does your router report? (Usually found on the status page that shows connection data) If it starts off 192.168 then your Modem is doing a double nat translation and you need to call your ISP and tell them you want the Modem to be put into gateway mode and just pass a public IP to your router.
Does the CCast actually connect to the Router but not work or will it not connect at all period? If it doesn't connect at all it is possible you need to change the Security method used to WPA or WEP. To test shut off security alltogether and try to connect the CCast. If there is currently NO security try putting WPA on and trying again (but it should work on an open AP)

Service is Telus DSL.
Solution: I changed the security settings. It still tries to stop the CCast from talking to my phone once in a while, but I just log into my router and log into the firewall settings. The firewall settings are "high, medium, low, NAT". It started working once I started turning it off of NAT and onto Medium or High.
I don't know why this is the solution, but it is a solution. I suspect that either Telus will fix the prolbem for everyone else or this thread will become popular. Now CCast is coming to Canada. So either Telus fixes it or there'll be a lot of searching leading to this post.
As a reminder, a friend of mine on telus never toughed his firewall settings and never had a problem with using his CCast. Go figure.

Well if the Telus was set to NAT perhaps Double Nat Translation was the issue.
DO you have another router connected to your modem or is this one of those all in one Hybrids supplied by the ISP?

I have a friend that is struggling with this as well. While setting up the WiFi connection between the chromecast and the router (the Actiontec V1000H - which is a modem/router combo if that helps). The chromecast will see the WiFi, but it seems to time out while trying to connect to the router.
I did find a comment on a blog somewhere (sorry, I forget where) that suggests unchecking the "IGMP snooping enabled" option in the router (Advanced Settings>IGMP Setting). Once this was done, the chromecast connected to the WiFi without any issues and we were able to stream it without any issues.
However after going out for dinner we had major issues trying to connect to the WiFi on our phones and his laptop (laptop would try to connect to the WiFi but continually fail). It seems like this is a temporary fix at best.
The only permanent solution I can think of at the moment is to go buy a new router that is listed as having no issues on the chromecast compatibility list... Which kind of defeats the whole purpose of having the chromecast as an economic way to stream content to your big screen.
Buy a better router
I don't see why IGMP should have any affect on being able to login and connect.
I Can see it being a problem with streaming but not connection.
IS this an ISP provided Modem/Router? How many devices are connecting wirelessly?
Check settings for IGMP Proxy, Try changing that setting whatever it is but it should probably be disabled (Still don't think this would affect connection but it's worth checking)
Check if UPnP Is enabled (again not really connection related but it does need to be enabled for CCast)
I personally prefer to use a two device setup with separate Modem (in Bridge Mode) and Router....This way the Modem protects the router from the outside world and even if the Modem goes bad the Network still functions properly.
And I pretty much stay away from anything that isn't a Linksys or Netgear product as far as Routers are concerned.
There are a bunch of Actiontec models that are listed as incompatible with CCast on the google site so it's obvious that something about their firmware is not CCast friendly.
So the the previous poster may actually have made a good suggestion in the long run! LOL
I'm using the telus actiontech router with chromcast with no issues....
its a pretty crappy router though and it seems telus disabled the ability for bridge mode in the latest firmware... has anyone found a solution to this so i can buy a better router?

As long as double NAT doesn't cause you problems, you can
Assign the new router's WAN port to an address in the ISP router's LAN range
Set the new router's gateway to the ISP router's LAN address
Connect the two routers LAN port to LAN port
Have all your wired and wireless clients connect to the new router.
Hi all,
I have a TP-Link TL-WDR4300 at home. My Chromecast is having issue connecting to this router. When i run through Chromecast setup, it goes fine up to the point where it asks me for password of my router. After I enter my password and click next, my TV would just say 'connecting...' and it will stuck forever. And the Chromecast setup app will say "Something went wrong. We weren't able to find your Chromecast on the network." Apparently because it wasn't able to connect to my network.
I'm pretty sure I have my password entered correctly. I tried to changed my router settings but it won't help at all.
One interesting thing is that my Chromecast used to be able to connect to my router before it was updated(which happened automatically when I connected Chromecast to my router for the last time). Although I had similar connection issues in the past, I was able to fix it by a combination of resetting Chromecast, rebooting router and changing router settings. Now, it just won't connect no matter what I do.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I would reset everything and then try the setup program again if you haven't tried that already.
When you say "changing router settings", does this include channel width? Is it set to auto? Have you tried setting it to something manually, preferably 20MHz? Also what is your Network Mode set to?

Have you tried using the HDMI extender? That can help a lot in some circumstances. It's amazing how much a TV and other electronics will interfere with WiFi signals.

I never had problems with my old router. So I'm pretty sure it to be a compatibility issue.
I have the same exact router (TL-WDR4300 but running dd-wrt) and have zero issues connecting my 2 chromecasts to it.
One chromecast is running PwnedCast and the other is vanilla on the most current update. The router is running both 2.4 and 5 ghz and both chromecasts are connected to the 2.4 bandwidth.
I am using the extender on both.

Well does the Chromecast Light blink or is it solid?
If it is solid then it is connected to the router and you have some security setting or firewall either on the router or the PC isolating it from other devices.
Typical issue is when you have mis-selected Public for your network type in Windows instead of HOME,
Public isolates the Windows machine where HOME allows Device to Device communication.
Check the firewall settings on your router and try shutting it off and see if that works. If so then turn it back on and look for other settings like Multicast filtering or IGMP and uncheck.
If the light on the CCast is Blinking then it is not connected and you need to re-run the setup.
You say other devices are seeing it so thats probably not the case.

Update: It turns out this is not the root cause of this issue(refer to my post below), i will try dd-wrt next!
Thanks for the suggestions!
By following your advise and checking my security settings again. I was able to solve this issue by turning off VPN firewalls. I don't use any VPN thing so i thought the VPN firewalls wouldn't matter. Anyways, thank you very much and now I can enjoy Chromecast again!
However, there is one annoying thing. When casting from Chrome tabs, it won't go into full screen. There are black bars on top and bottom which isn't there if I cast from Youtube. I tried changing all the Chromecast extension options and Tv aspect ratio setting, but had no success. It would be awesome if you can offer some advice.
Thanks again!:good:

Well, after all, it was too early to call it a success.
So earlier today, I wasn't able to discover Chromecast from my PC(It says something like "device missing" in Chromecast extension). However, my TV shows Chromecast is connected to my network, and the light on Chromecast is stable white. Then, I tried to reboot my router, and that fixed it. This is basically similar to the issues i had in the past where i could just fix Chromecast connection by randomly rebooting router and resetting Chromecast.
I was skeptical and decided to revert my changes on VPN firewalls. After a router reboot, Chromecast still worked!!
At this point, I don't think it's the VPN firewall settings that is causing this issue. This issue looks so random. I would try to go dd-wrt next and hopefully it will fix this issue properly.

You mention DD-Wrt are you using that?
Cause I notice most people having these issues seem to be using DD-WRT or Tomato and I'm starting to wonder if perhaps there is some issues with those Custom Firmwares being used.
I do know in the past before I Upgraded my router that I had problems with devices getting booted off the WiFi because I had too many devices connecting and it would seem that when a new device would connect, one would stop getting data despite the fact it said it was connected.
Now this shouldn't ever be the case with WiFi if it has an IP it should not have a limit but I am wondering if your experiencing what I was experiencing before I Upgraded....
Not suggesting you need to upgrade mind you just that what your going through sounds similar to what I went through.
When I bought the new router (LinkSys N900) the Box had this chart of Router Groups and which router was best for X number of devices.
Low end for less than 3, High end for 7+ with the last group being for 7+ and HD.
This chart went against what I believed I knew about WiFi limitations which I thought was only IP and DHCP based...
I wrote it off as pure Marketing with the intention of getting you to buy the most expensive router they had...(which I was going to do anyway LOL)
I'm starting to wonder if maybe there is something to that....Sure would explain my problems with the router that made me upgrade in the first place.
I'm having the same issues with my chromecast and a tp-link wdr4300 router on dd-wrt (latest build from 2014-02).
After either chromecast or router (wi-fi) restart I'm able to cast and chromecast is also shown in chromecast app.
But after some idling (without casting) chromecast is still connected to my wi-fi (ping responses) but I'm not able to cast anything (music, allcast etc..) anymore.
I have already tried enabling/disabling UPNP, changing wi-fi channels, etc
Doesn't look like just a wi-fi issue only, as chromecast is still connected to my wi-fi.
but still could this be related to the Atheros chipset used in the wdr4300 maybe?
Any other routers with atheros chipset running without problems?
Try installing Bonjour Browser or another mDNS browser and monitor what happens in local._googlecast._tcp
Also check router security and firewall logs to see if things are being blocked corresponding to when the mDNS broadcasts fall off.
Sent from a device with no keyboard. Please forgive typos, they may not be my own.
Seems to be good now for my setup.
I had installed a bonjour browser but couldn't see anything special.
local._googlecast._tcp was present all the time even though I couldn't cast.
I have changed the router firmware from dd-wrt (02-19-2014-r23598) to a self compiled OpenWrt (Barrier Breaker r39770).
I have been able to cast now stable for 4 days. Never had that before on dd-wrt.

Thanks for the update. Good to know that OpenWRT is working for you.
I have the same router. Don't recall having any issues on stock firmware. I'm on ddwrt now.
Did that as I plan on converting to extender when I move to the AC router soon.
I can only imagine the Chromecast didn't like something in your settings.

[ this trick worked for me ] .. I had the same issue.. I was trying to connect my lcd remote monitor to my windows 7 pc. In the chromecast setup, I was able to go till the page that asked for the wifi network id and pw.., and later i got the error "Something went wrong. We weren't able to find your chromecast on the network" Many tries and all failed. Later i downloaded the chromecast app in my Android 5.0 smart phone and did the settings and voila! .. it got installed in the first try. Later without factory resetting the chromecast, i reinstalled the chromecast setup in my windows 7 and it got installed without any error. Later i opened up the chrome browser installed the chromecast plugin extension and it worked well. I was able to view my page on my remote monitor. Hope it works for u too..
Since my Chromecast updated to 16664 (official) last week, I have had a bear of a time having any device see the Chromecast. Prior to the upgrade, I didn't have any issues with connectivity. Now the only way I can get the device to work is to do a reset to defaults and go through the setup procedure. The CC will generally work until the next power-up, then the same thing.
When this happens, the ChromeCast's home screen indicates it's connected to my WiFi network, however no Chromecast enabled program, including the Chromecast app on my phone, sees the device.
There have been no changes to my wireless network settings since it worked last. Given that I've not seen anyone else post about this, I must be the only one seeing the problem. Anyone?
I've seen some similar reports over at Plex but not here...
I myself am on 16664 and have no issues seeing my device.
try a Factory reset and see if reconnecting helps at all.
I've had a similar experience. My Galaxy SII and Galaxy tab 3 can see my Chromecast, but when I run the Chromecast app from my Kindle Fire HD, I get the message "No Chromecasts found on <network>". If I do a factory reset on the Chromecast, then the KFHD will find it, but once it's setup, I won't find it again. For me, the solution was to unplug my TiVo Premiere and TiVo Roamio from my network. Then the KFHD can find and cast to the Chromecast. But if either TiVo is connected to my network, the KFHD can't find the Chromecast. It's weird that this only affects the KFHD and not my other android devices.

TiVos use mDNS advertising for their services.
Recent Chromecast firmware also seems to be using mDNS as well.
Try running Bonjour Browser and see if Chromecast is visible before/after reset or reboot.
Not sure if related but it may help.

If your router has a WMM option, try toggling it - on some routers WMM implementation is broken and makes things worse when it tries to kick in and make your media streaming better.
Also, if you're streaming local content from another wireless device you may be exceeding the available bandwidth on the band - see WiFi Bandwidth and Router Considerations for diagrams on how the bandwidth usage can multiply depending on how content is being accessed.

Streaming is fine (using plex with pc as dlna) it's just a weird issue that used to happen, haven't noticed it in a while because our phones always connects to the 5ghz network. WMM is on so if it happens again I'll try playing it.
Also I doubt I'm even getting close to the wireless bandwidth cap.
Thanks for your reply tho!

Weird... Might also be a more general network thing like a rogue device with a static IP causing a collision that Chromecast doesn't gracefully recover from, or a multi-interfaced device causing some kind of loop
But yeah, since you have 5 GHz, best to use that and keep your 2.4 GHz usage to a minimum to maximize available bandwidth for Chromecast..
Let me try a few of the suggestions here. I've not had any luck using 2.4 or 5GHz bands on my network...behavior is the same. Also, my router is an ASUS router with Merlin firmware. There is a new thread I've only glanced over, but I'll try some of the things there as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2599515
I had to do the factory reset trick again last night so we could watch video on the Chromecast...it obviously hasn't gotten annoying to the point where I'm stopping all other activity until I get it fixed, though. Strange this only started happening after the Chromecast update, but I can no longer remember the sequence of events that go me here (chromecast update, router update, wireless AP added for better wireless coverage, etc).
I've seen similar behavior when there are just too many devices connected to the WiFi at once.
My router maxes out at around 9-10 devices...
Doesn't matter which band they are on either.
But to be sure it isn't an IP conflict I suggest setting DHCP reservations for all your regularly connecting devices to ensure they never get a different IP (especially important to do for servers like Plex) and remove that possibility from the equation.
Just to Add I believe the new 802.11AC Standards solve this problem, But you will need to buy a new router to get it.

I'm running the browser that sees that from a Samsung tablet, which is also running the Chromecast setup app that says it can't find the Chromecast.
EDIT: I've tried the factory default recovery method a number of times now. I see the bonjour record go away, then come back after the setup app says I'm ready to cast. All apps can see the Chromecast at that time, then after 3 to 5 minutes, they no longer see the Chromecast. I don't see any difference in the bonjour record when it working from when it's not working.

Just a longshot....But do you have any security software that could be blocking some Apps from communicating with the Network?
It sounds an awful lot like what happens when an AntiVirus Application Monitor has denied access.
Hmm, No, I don't think so.
But I found something interesting. My laptop CAN see the Chromecast, and I can cast Chrome tabs just fine. So far it's only the Android devices that can't see the Chromecast (and at the same time the laptop can). I'm looking for my iPad (I don't use it enough to keep track of it as close as I should) to see if it sees the Chromecast or not.

But I found something interesting. My laptop CAN see the Chromecast, and I can cast Chrome tabs just fine. So far it's only the Android devices that can't see the Chromecast (and at the same time the laptop can).

That's really odd. Your network has only the ASUS router for wireless, no repeaters or extenders?

I do have an extender (not a wireless repeater) in place, but it didn't make any difference before the latest Chromecast update. My next step is to try removing the extender, but I don't know if the Chromecast will see the signal coming from the other side of the house (the reason the extender was put in to begin with).

It's quite possible that the update changed something about the WiFi connection that your network simply does not like. People have noted similar "introduced issues" with HDMI before. Definitely submit a report with them if you haven't already, and request that updates NOT be forced to avoid issues like this. Being able to dismiss, postpone or even roll back an update would prevent this type of thing.
If it's not the build, I'm not sure what else it might be, unless your router has somehow quarantined your other Android devices on another band or SSID somehow.

Looks like I switched off TKIP and just went AES on that network at some time. I went back and turned on AES+TKIP and now the Chromecast shows up on my mobile devices again. I'll keep an eye out in case that theory doesn't hold out.
