I am new to the moto x and I'm coming from galaxy note 2. I'm a lil nervous about it as I'm coming from removable batteries and expandable memory. I have a couple questions, is battery decent I have had a s3 and made it through the day no problems so I'm not to worried but still somewhat worried. My big thing is memory, I only got the 16gb as it was free. I know I can save my pics on drop box or drive but can I save my apps somewhere like that? Is there anything else I should be excited or keep an eye out for or try when I get the phone on Monday?
I briefly had a note 2 (and gs3 before that). Keep your pics on google+ or Dropbox and keep your phone memory for other stuff. Don't let Google music cache automatically (it's in settings). For battery I'm getting about 24 hours but it will depend on your on screen time and your signal strength. Also if you use exchange for work it will wake lock your phone. Might want to stay on 4.2 or root and manually add the 4.4.2 exchange files.

I've tried using drive but can't get pics to automatically load to it only manually will load. Its set to automatically but still won't.

Well, you can always use ADB and try to pull the /sdcard tree out to your computer. That is where a lot of games keep their data, but other than that you might use... I think it is called Helix Backup? Something like that (I don't have a link handy, may be called Carbon Copy Backup or Carbon Backup) but it'll backup data without root.
Assuming you are worried about starting over so you can root it, then... Yeah something like that would work fine. So, backup, then use the SlapmyMoto method which rooted for me with no problem.
You can't store game data on DropBox, it takes up memory. I keep my phone lean on games because of that fact.
I came from a Note 2. It's been collecting dust ever since I received my X in the mail.
1. Battery life is as good as the Note 2 and far better than the S3. The radios in the X are better than both the S3 and N2.
2. Return it and buy the 32gb. It's worth the difference. I lamented the lack of a microSD slot but with just the OS installed, I had ~27gb free.
3. Google Play Games
4. Start designing on MotoMaker. Don't buy the glass protector from the Moto site, grab one from MimeUSA.
Att didn't offer the 32 gb or I would of got it. Only reason I got it was its free through att. I think ill be OK as long as I keep pics and videos off as I only had the 16 gb on all the galaxy phones.

I'm curious how to set this up to work with Google+. I like what Google Photos does, with all the Auto Awesome it makes, but have no clue how I'd go about just storing them on Google+. Do they automatically go to the cloud or is it a manual process?

My favorite case is the Qmadix. I have the white and the red one. I haven't installed my MIME protector yet, but another user said it works perfectly with the MIME.

When you first open Google+ and sign in, it asks if you want to automatically upload your photos and videos.

I recommend it. It's a nice minimal case, but feels like it offers really good protection without bulk.
I know how to automatically upload the pictures... what I'm getting at, is that they are still stored locally on the device. So you have to go in and manually delete them from the phone, but they are still stored in Google+?

I found that with my entire photo library on the phone and all my apps, I've still got like 3.5 Gigs left on my 16 Gig phone. I do have to limit my media downloaded though, which can be a royal pain.
So I have auto upload on and when I take pics I see them in the photo album and I get a notification saying it uploaded to Google + but when I delete a pic it deletes from the photos app. What am I doing wrong.

battery
Battery used to rock, now I usually get 8-12hrs depending on usage. Definitely have to pop it up on the charger mid-day if I want it to make it through. It's a little better than the Gnex I came from but since you can't remove the battery (I always used to keep a spare in my wallet) it's overall a lot less and a lot more worrisome when I check my phone at 8pm before going out and see 2% battery remaining and there's nothing I can do about it. Seems from the people here that your mileage will vary though.

Your total battery time will depend also on what you're doing with your phone, what options/features are enabled and your screen time. But if you have something killing your battery then have a read through the "how's your battery life" thread in general section. Lots of help there.

Thanks i wiil wait for some othee phones
Yea I just switched from my cm7 thunderbolt that I got on launch day at the Verizon store I work at and I'm kind of uneasy about the switch I made but my thunderbolt sold that day for 200of the 300 that it cost for the bionic so no going back now. Either way worst case scenario I upgrade on of the phones on my contract lines to a quad core next year. So if you have the opportunity to switch later go for it but if you have to keep it for 20months I would wait

That is exactly what I am doing.......Switching from the Thunderbolt to the Bionic.
It has been painless so far. Switched the 4G sim cards and SD cards. Then pointed TiBu to where to backups were and restored all my apps from the Thunderbolt.
The Bionic is blazing fast and the battery is awesome. But need more testing for battery life to get a better results....
I also came from a Thunderbolt.. and in my opinion, the Bionic while being a very nice phone and powerful - feels very intermediary to the next "big thing".. It doesn't feel like "the phone to have for the next year" to me... Either way, haven't sold my Tbolt and i'm giving it about 10 days before deciding if i'm keeping the Bionic or returning it.

Same here. Truly hate the screen. Like almost everything else. Battery has been better but not amazing. I'll keep it and sell it for the prime.

I personally don't own a TB, but know several who do. The Bionic is a much nicer phone in just about every aspect. Battery life is much better not just a little. "Reviews" of the Bionic are only opinionated "initial impressions" just like my statement above
And the screen....coming from an amoled and slcd Inc....it's actually very nice. The best outdoor viewing I've seen on any phone.
bionic screen and no data+voice over 3g
hate the screen.
hate the fact that one cannot do data + voice over 3g like the t-bolt
love the build quality
love the call quality
net, net - keeping my bolt for either the htc vigor (oct. 6 launch according to sources on the web).

That is my only gripe so far. That should be standard on all LTE phones.
I'm going to use it for another week and decide. Battery life and screen is the only thing making me think twice about going back to the tv.
Keeping the bionic, wifey gets the TB. Like someone else in this thread stated, the bionic feels like an intermediate step forward rather than a leap. Still, I'm quite happy with it. I refuse to obsess over the pentile screen. Has any other TB owner noticed how great this phone is in direct sunlight? The TB was tough to use outside.

If you are in a 3g area, then I would wait. My data connection is worse than when the Thunderbolt just came out. I lose data for hours. I toggle modes (cdma/lte) switch airplane mode off and on, and reboot. Reboot works most often. When I'm on wifi and on cdma mode, the verizon data stays connected. But either way my battery (always on cdma) dies in less than 10 hours
If you use your phone outside then you'll like the Bionic screen.
I don't have an opinion if you are in a 4G area.

I didn't notice any hue with my Oakley's. Love being able to see the screen with them on.
In direct sunlight with sunglasses on it is very readable. I've never seen a smart phone screen this viewable in the sun.
I have a TB that I just went back to. Bionic is better, but with locked bootloader, wifi tether issues, and price, it isn't worth using my upgrade IMO. Now, if I wasn't already on a 4 g device like my old droid x, then I would say get a bionic, you will love it.

I am having that exact debate with myself. Already having a 4g device do I need this phone? Call quality is 100 times better though.

My XT860 is pretty good. I'm trying to get 2 years out of it, so far it's been only 8 months, but I think it might be able to go a little further.
If we could get ICS fully up and running, I don't think I'll look at getting a new phone until the 2 years have elapsed. I love the phone so much I am buying a secondary backup one from another xda member this weekend.
I have the extended battery in it which usually lasts me the full day. D4 doesn't have removable battery, what gives? I need a keyboard phone and love the power...
The phone is fine - it does everything that I need it to do, will be great through update time next June, and, unless there are a ton of apps that are ICS-only that come out by then, I think it will be fine even if it stays GB. I will likely keep this phone as a GSM travel phone unless my next phone can be the same, and just use the D3 when we are away from Verizon.
I love the droid3. The keyboard and everything about it. I do want the droid4 tho because i hate having things in my pocket. So a thinner phone would be nice

Even though I've only had the phone for a few days I'll comment anyway. It is probably the best functioning handheld device I've ever had (I've been through quite a few over the years). It replaced a basically defunct make and model of phone that I had an extended warranty for.
edit:
This thing is a horrid battery hog 26 minutes of solid use and it's down from 100% to 80%!
I'm now on my fourth D3 (since August), so not really too happy.
The D3 is OK w/me, love the keyboard, even tho a smaller screen than my other DX & DX2,no complaints, I like this better than my 'ol Inc2, only complaint is the 3G is way slower than with/fi.

But I use the one click booster & that helps my 3G speed for a little bit. Bad reception area.
I'm happy with mine I had a extended battery but I had to send it back because it would only work half of the time. I got the profiles setup now with rom toolbox and it has been a huge asset. My next phone is going to be a htc phone miss having one though 90% of my phones have been Motorola

Still love my D3. I've dropped it a ton since I decided to go caseless and aside from ugly chips on the corners (and some gouges in the screen) it has stood up well. I have a backup though just in case.
I won't make it the 2 years. I keep an eye out for busted up phones to fix, and the D4 just started popping up (and the parts to fix it) so I will be moving on as soon as I find a deal. Going to keep with the keyboard phones though.

Droid 3 is solid
I started w/the D2,the X's,X2's,Inc2 now the D3. Love the KB. Ok slightly smaller screen but no problem. The D4 KB has other characters-no thanks & it's 4G,not ready for that here. I figure I'll let Red get it built first.
My D3 gives me no problems, the weight makes me feel like this cell is a solid phone, good sound, easy w/the root I've got 98 apps I use with still no problems. So I'd say I'm content & happy w/my Droid 3. No bugs I have to worry about w/my D3, I think Red shuold have carried it longer but 4G took it away.
I still love my Droid 3! It's the device of my dreams. With all the tweaks (esp. Atrix Camera), and rooted, deodexed stock 5.7.894 it's perfect. I wouldn't switch to the Droid 4, not really Global, thicker, no replaceable battery. I really love the screen and its great outdoor performance.
Problem with Android OS (Kernel)
I very love Droid 3.
But now, i have a problem. Android OS drain battery so much.My droid standby overnight. After 7h, Battery is 30%. I checked and see that Android OS is 82%.
I use Badass Bettery monitor to check, Kernel is 70%.
I don't know what is running?

Hello, I'm currently using a Motorola Defy, but I need a phone with a bigger screen, so I can edit documents, like word, excel, etc...reading PDF documents, browse on the web a little bit more comfortable, not gaming since I don't play a lot on the phone; that being said, would you recommed a Motorola Atrix HD to me? I was planning to make a BIG effort to get a Samsung Galaxy S3, but, checking on the specs of both, the screen is almost the same, the camera quality is almost the same, I know Motorola Atrix is 2 cores and Galaxy S3 is 4, but for my normal usage 2 cores is more than enough and the difference on the price is also a big plus.
I have being offered with a good deal for the Atrix HD, what do you say? take it or leave it? I would highly appreciate your comments, thank you.
EDIT: this device can be rooted? talking about Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X, these can be rooted?
The latest HTC One X and the Motorola Atrix HD both share the fact they cannot be rooted. You have to get an older HTC One X if you plan on getting root/romming it. While I am not a big Sammy fan, they would be your best bet for rooting.
Well, rooting is important for me :S despite the fact that the phone is not able to be rooted so far...would you recommend it? thanks you!
Despite the non-rooting, I would say that the AHD is a top quality phone. Yes, the SGIII is more powerful machine, but for the $50 I paid for AHD and the $199 I would have paid for the SGIII, it is worth ever dollar.
Just inquiring to how the sg3 is a more powerful phone?
ATRIX HD feels like much more solid phone.
They both have the s4 processor, Same GPU, and the ATRIX HD has better resolution.

It has 2GB of memory, much better camera, and some of its NFC capabilities is superior, and its info says that it is compatible with the 64 GB sdcard unlike the AHD and the internal sdcard for GSIII is 16GB / 32GB and the AHD only has 8GB

2 GB of ram goes a long way. I know there's a fair amount of wasted ram not being used, but it really does make a difference. The removable battery is a huge bonus and the amount of development on this phone is shockingly underwhelming compared to any variant of the Galaxy S3 (obviously, since global sales of that phone are now over 30 million units). That said, the Atrix HD is a fantastic phone for $49. While Touchwiz has a lot of cool features, Motoblur feels much more polished (in my opinion).
It basically comes down to what you're looking for in a phone. If it's a flagship handset that will be updated by the manufacturer for the duration of your contract and also has the most development of any phone not named Nexus, then the Galaxy S3 is the obvious choice. If you're looking for something a bit cheaper, don't care that it doesn't have all the latest features (pitiful internal storage, gross multi tasking, and no NFC come to mind) but for all intents and purposes does everything a Galaxy S3 can do, then the Atrix HD is a great choice. I like this phone a lot, especially at its price point. However, as soon as the Note 2 drops and doesn't cost ~$800, I'll be moving to that. This phone will never have the developer following that either Samsung phone will have and I won't be stuck for the duration of my contract with a phone that has reached its life expectancy 8 months into my contract.

I'm stuck trying to decide which way to go also. My contract just went up but i'm not renewing until I see the new phones at the end of the year. But until then i'm gonna get something. So i've been checking out the atrix hd and one x. I found a good deal on both. 200 for a brand new in box ahd or 280 for a rooted mint condition one x. After playing with both at the at&t store, i'm leaning towards the ahd just because I like the interface better. I like the almost stock ics. But after reading through the forums i'm not so sure anymore. Not being able to save apps onto the sd card really sucks. I don't understand why motorola would do that. Other posts about dead pixels, gps/wifi issues, led notification, phone won't turn on, etc. I don't know if it's worth it anymore. Since i'm not buying from retail I won't be able to return/replace if I have any of these issues. I'm not too worried about root as i'm sure someone will figure that out eventually. I'm gonna buy one of these tomorrow, I just hope I get the right one.

Honestly it's all really a matter of opinion. I personally would go with the Atrix HD simply because of the microSD card slot alone....internal storage can be EASILY filled up these days, whether it's music, videos, pictures, applications, and/or games. Having a 32 GB card in my Atrix certainly alleviates the storage issue. Also, the Atrix HD's camera isn't nearly as bad as some people would claim, and has only been further improved with the latest firmware update (particularly with noise and low light performance). As for the screen, both have lovely screens so it would be hard to go wrong with either.

It's a tough decision you have, but I would still go with the Atrix HD. The build quality on my phone has been fantastic and I have had no issues whatsoever with anything. As for not being able to save applications onto the SD card, that is not something that Motorola actually chose to do - rather, it was the choice that Google made when they designed Ice Cream Sandwich. You won't be able to save apps to external memory on the One X.
Also, root shouldn't be an issue for too long.

Having had both I would definitely go with the One X. The 16 gb of internal storage with no micro sd card slot is a real pain in the ass, but the better screen, camera, and form factor definitely make up for it.

My main gripe with the ahd is the fact that you can't save apps to the external sd card. WTF. No other phone does that. And they're slick about it too. There is no mention about that only that they have expandable memory as if they're better than one x non-expandable. At least the one x has double the space for apps. I bet there are a ton of returns because of that and unhappy customers hitting their app limit not knowing it can't save to the sd. Besides that, I really like the phone and I still might get it..lol

I was under the impression Motorola made that decision. If not, WTF google! Even though the one x doesn't have expandable sd, you can use all of the 16gb internal for apps. I do like the build quality of the atrix better than the one x. I don't really care about the camera as that's not my thing. I'm just disappointed that i'll only have about 5gb available for apps. Let's just hope this thing gets rooted and this whole issue can be fixed with a new rom. Thanks for the inputs guys.. I still have a few hours to decide which to get. I'll post up my purchase later today.

Finally got the phone.
Love it!! Runs so smoth and fast and display is just awesome!!:good::good:
Although I own a Atrix HD and love it. But, I probably would have passed the Atrix HD, if I knew the root is not gonna be available for this long. I'd rather get an HTC one where root is possile.

Most One X's sold in the last two months are un-rootable. An OTA (2.20) in early august prevents rooting, which is required to unlock the boot loader (by spoofing a different device because the AT&T version is not supported), which is required to install custom recovery, to flash ROMs. If easy root and ROMs is your goal you want a Samsung device.

I would like to know peoples opinions on the quality of the display. I myself am kind of put off by the "noise" or grainines of the display, also I have noticed some ghosting on the display. For example if the background is white and there are darker shapes after I scroll up or down I can still see some of that shape for a few seconds then it turns with like the background.
I'm so very disappointed on the display as well. It only looks good when you max out the brightness level (which is what I saw at the phone shop before I decided to buy one). If I'd known this earlier, I'd buy G2 instead.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I usually always max the brightness on every phone I buy. Well when in bed I turn all the way down. I'm not that picky but will have to wait and see it in person to decided if I want to sell my G2. I'm just not using my Nexus 7 and figure why not sell it and just a phablet. lol
From 0 to 10 I'll give 7....only because background noise, which is fine because this is flexible display.
I have been reading alot of reviews and theres mixed reviews of screen quality some says its not that bad and some say its really terrible and alot of pix elation and stuff, little worried on my pre order just will have to wait and see. Either way i change phones every 3 months or so, got to feed my addiction...

I'm debating between the note 3 and the g flex. It has been a very tough decision......
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium HD app
The display is better than expected in my opinion. The viewing angles are excellent and the colors are vivid. Whites are good from 50% and up otherwise it is grainy but honestly I think it's a great display. My favorite display to date is the HTC one with a 10/10, ill give the note 3 a 9/10, the G flex a 7.8/10.

You and me both,
I just gave my wife my note 3 for the nexus 5 and now I'm going tomorrow for the flex "maybe". I've used it in a at&t store and liked it other than display. But I think over time the display won't bother me that much. I'm mainly going for size and battery.
My wife and dad fuss at me all the time for switching phones. But to be honest if the nexus 5 would've been larger and better battery life I would've been completely happy with it and probably wouldn't be changing for at least a year, well maybe 8 months lol

As far as battery life goes do you have it at full brightness. I noticed at the at&t store that at full brightness the display was pretty great. I can handle the 720p if I left it on full brightness.
Just curious as to how long the battery will last on full brightness. I use Google all access music about 6hrs a day thru Bluetooth, YouTube 30mins-1hr, Google+ 30mins, xda 15-30mins, and searching the web 1+hr a day. I guess I'm a heavy user if that helps. Thanks

There's a lot of worry about the display since its only 720 p but like u said, if u crank the brightness up the display is just fine. Below 50% the display is still fine except for whites, they become too grainy. But above it becomes white white. Battery life is something you NEVER EVER have to worry about with the G flex, it truly is the king right now no matter how bright you put the display. I was consistantly getting 8 hours of screen time with heavy use ( and when I say heavy I mean watching a ton of youtube videos, downloading some pirate bay movies, phone calls, lots of tapatalk, lots of words with friends....). Dont worry about battery life at all.

The display is horrible. I have the note 3 wanted the gflex very badly went to tmoblie to try it out. Side by side comparison with the same wallpaper. Search g flex wallpaper on play store. The flex display has got to be the most terrible display on the market for a 2014 phone. Its grainy and very pixelated. In short I could not bring myself to get one. Noticeable downgrade just on display alone and the curve is not that curvy. They played it very safe with this phone. Doesn't even have 3gb of ram. Wish it was better.

Besides the display.
The note 3 is a great phone but even with 3 gigs of ram it still falls short on performance compared to the flex. I like my note 3 but purchased a nexus 5 cause i got tired of the note 3 being slow at everyday task like rotation of screen and clicking on apps, not to mention web browsing. Don't get me wrong it's fast but after tying a nexus 5 you'll see what I'm talking about. With that point made the flex is just as quick at the nexus.
My point here is unless the devices are right next to one another you won't notice any difference in display quality. "Minus the grainy look" but as far as pixelated you'll never notice.
Just like you'll never know the speed without them side by side Just like i did when i got home i compared the note 3 to the flex Just like i did with the nexus. The flex is very snappy at everything You throw at it. The only thing i haven't compared is the cameras but I'm sure the note 3 will win that competition.
Everyone is entitled to there opinion though and this is mine.
As far as liking the display yes i wish it was 1080p but for first gen and being curved i like it.
Sent from my LG-D959 using Tapatalk
I like it too. Display is oled that's why I very happy. It's better than on my xperia z ultra (TFT garbage). On G Flex screen provide beautiful color's. There is some background noise which is not noticeable as people say. This is our curve screen guys thats how is working.
My first impressions of the G Flex:
Plus Side:
-The phone is thin and light
-The speaker gets decent volume
-It's fast and does everything with pep
-Battery life thus far seems to be fantastic
-Camera seems to be very serviceable
Minus Side:
-The screen has a texture/graininess to it reminiscent of the first generation of amoled phone displays. This is very noticeable in apps such as facebook.
-Dual Window doesn't work with every app.
Overall, my first impressions are mostly positive. Despite this, I wouldn't recommend this phone to the average consumer due to the display. The display has this grainy texture to it that really shows itself in apps like facebook. While I don't think it's a terrible thing outright, I definitely can see where this would be a point of contention for many people (especially those with an eye for detail).
I just picked up the phone as well. The above posters initial impression is the same as mine. The graininess is present on mine as well. Im still sitting in my car and thought it was a defect.

I don't think you really have to test for it per say. It seems more like it's just something that comes with this new technology, than something that is a defect. That said, you can pretty much see it anywhere the screen is not black. It seemed very ostensible in the facebook app, and it's even fairly apparent on the lock screen. I don't think it's necessarily a deal breaker or anything (I actually don't mind it too much), it's just a bit different than what most people are used to. As a result, I think many people may see it, and consider it to be a negative, hence why though I think this is a great phone, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to the average person.

Honestly, I don't think this has much to do with the resolution, as it does with the technology that is in use. One thing I have noticed is that it is less apparent with the brightness higher. This leads me to believe this is more so a function of the technology being so new. It reminds me of the Galaxy Nexus display in some ways. I don't think it looks bad, but I don't think it's going to blow you away either. All in all, I think it's just different. If a person comes in with the expectations of a screen that they are used to seeing, they may be disappointed. If they come in with an open mind, they may find the screen to be decent.

I don't use facebook. What other apps? Tapatalk? How is it for surfing the web? I've seen it person 2x and the 3rd might be the charm. lol I played the video that comes with the phone and the display looked great. My issue it's not much different then my current G2. I just like the design and battery life.
Just got home and fiddled with the settings. The higher the brightness on standard mode makes it less noticeable. The effect is similar to how the screen will look after applying a wet screen protector, if that makes any sense.
It's very hard to get that grain texture to show up in photos, but I did the best I could to show it. In this picture, you can see where the background (which should be a smooth white), has this grainy texture to it.

It really doesn't make a difference what app you use, as that's just how the screen is. I used facebook as an example because I found that it's particularly noticeable in that app (I suppose because it's mainly pictures). I don't use tapatalk, so I can't speak to how it looks, but as for web browsing, you will see it there also.
On another note, something else I noticed is that the display can be slow to remove things from the screen at times. For example, when I was trying out the quick memo, I found that if I used black drawing on a light background, then when I erase the drawing, the shadow remains on the screen for a brief period. Fortunately, this is the only time I've seen this occur, and hopefully that flaw isn't present during other uses of the phone.
I just got mines today. And i really like it. Its a decent phone, dont even miss my note 3 lol
