[Q] NO SIM after flashing CM11 Nightly - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just recently flashed CM11 on my Captivate and now the phone will no detect my SIM card. I've put the sim into a different phone and verified that it is not the sim. I've read some things about modems and wondered if that's my issue, so if anyone can guide me on the right path id really appreciate it!

P970 can't use any SIM cards

My Optimus Black was working fine for about 3 months. Not sure what happened, but it started showing no network/signal. It's a completely unlocked phone. I tried a friend's SIM card and the first time it wouldn't work, but I tried again a few days later and it worked but had a pretty bad signal. Now it won't work no matter how many times I try. I even bought a new SIM card/number (I live in Asia) and it won't work.
I had Android 2.3 and thought maybe something got corrupted, so I wiped and reinstalled, but same problem. I wiped again and installed Mokee OS, and same issue. (By the way, after using Android 2.3, switching to Mokee is so much nicer, although it's in beta and still has some bugs.)
The 6 gold SIM connectors look fine. I used a SIM app and it recognizes the SIM card and its carrier, so I think the card is being read OK.
I live on a small island, so sending the phone back to LG or taking it back to where I bought it (Bangkok) would be a huge hassle. Does anybody have any ideas on things to try to fix this? I'd really appreciate the help.
Can you return to stock rom (rooted or not, as you want) and then tell me if you see something write in LG lockscreen (I'm thinking about LG Security Error) ?

The first time i wiped the phone i went back to Android 2.3, but all that the lock screen said was "No service". Usually it says "DTAC" when I have service. Is that what you mean?

I think everything is normal. It has an IMEI number. It is 15 numbers. It also has an IMEI SV number that is 16 numbers.

No if the SIM card isn't used that phrase is normal. I got a problem like you but it was written "LG Security Error" and I had to use Smartflash tool erasing cp and then recover my imei. But it doesn't seems that you have the same problem. "/

Thanks. I'm going to try flashing the stock rom. I can't find any good threads about recovering the IMEI. Everything I am finding is about Samsung. Do you have any links you can share?

I flashed the new rom and erased the CP data. still no phone service but i haven't reset the IMEI yet. having trouble with that step. i'm not sure if this is going to work though, my problem seems different. my phone can see my SIM card, but i just don't have any phone service with any SIM card. the sim cards work fine in other phones.
try a sim without pin code
and flashing with smartflashtool (erase entire cp) doesn't works?

i don't think my SIM has a pin code? I'm not sure though? There's only one type of SIM you can get here in Thailand. You buy the SIM from a phone shop or 7-11 and add credits to it. I've never seen any other type of SIM card.
Yep, I used smartflashtool and erased the entire CP (had to enable with Windows Enabler). Now there is no IMEI and still "No service".
Retry or by changing baseband now...there was a tutorial in optimus3D threads i think
Or in this one itself
Change the baseband

No sim card problem

Hi i did a search for the problem but none of the other threads with this title matched my problem.
I'm hoping someone can help i rooted and unlocked the bootloader on my x8 and put on ginger DX about 2 months ago and it's been working great.
just for info I didn't flash any custom kernel
So to my problem i tried to send a text message earlier tonight and i wouldn't send. my phone appeared to have no signal. I moved about in the house trying to get a signal no joy. So i rebooted my phone when it came back on it said there was no sim card!
Thinking something had gone wrong with the rom I tried a full wipe through xrecovery to no avail so i then did a repair with PCC.
However my phone still says No sim card
anyone know of any other steps i can take to fix my phone?
if it's beyond me fixing it I'm with O2 and have insurance will they be able to tell that i rooted and unlocked the bootloader and is that likely to invalidate my insurance??
Thanks in advance

FIX
I had the same problem. did you use this guide HERE?
If not do the whole guide following his instructions.
or
If you did go to the bottom of the first post and look at common issues. One of them is sim is not recognised. All you have to do is use the other unlock tool.
You will have it fixed in no time!
Please thank me if you appreciate my effort to try and fix this problem.

I wasn't trying to re unlock my bootloader i just wanted my sim to be recognised, but if i reunlock it is it likely to be recognised?
I didn't use this guide when i originally unlocked my bootloader i used x8toolbox
Have you tried inserting the sim to other fone and see if it works? or try using different sim and see if the fone recognize it.
Im guessing your sim card was damage.

Just tried that just before i turned the computer on and i was just thinking the same thing then i saw your reply
now just need to unroot the phone and lock the bootloader before i ring O2
Thanks for everyone's replies and i'll try to put my threads in the right forum next time
You did not unlock the bootloader properly. There was a bug. if sim is working before and not working afterward. Baddaman54 is right. you need to follow the guide and troubleshooters notes. Even though this has been solved I will make this post so that if someone comes here with the same problem they can see all solutions.

I didn't follow that guide at all, as posted earlier i used x8toolbox and i ran the s1 tool which seemed to indicate it was unlocked fine
But i did it about 2 months ago. The phone and sim's been ok all this time running GingerDX with stock kernel.
it appears the sim is damaged not sure how it happened though.

[Q] Help Please!!

Hi, I have not seen help for this anywhere. I attempted to install a custom ROM on my Atrix HD and ended up bricking it. I needed to use the Myth tool to unroot it with MB886_att-user-4.1.1-9.8.0Q-97_MB886_FFW-20-27-release-keys-ATT-US_BuildA.xml.zip------>This worked I was able to use my phone again but now it is completely reset. The phone now does not have my account and says there is no sim card when one is inserted in the phone. I would greatly greatly appreciate help. You guys helped with the previous problems I HOPE I DIDN'T RUIN THE PHONE.
What do I need to do? Is there something I can do?
Does the phone work properly with a different rom?

I reseted it to the factory settings so it looks like I just pulled it out of the box and didnt insert the sim card. So i did not try and install anything else on it I dont know what to do to do that exactly.
Oh man that username made me lol pretty hard OP! xD .. Not sure why but it's just so funny, thread content to username ratio is strong. Anyways my friend, I would try flashing to a good, stable ROM like CyanogenMod or Carbon and see if you SIM card is recognized, or simply remove SIM, reboot phone, and reinsert? This is a strange occurrence, I've RSD'd to stock 3 times never borked SIM. If all else fails flash a different radio? Or you can RSD again using the Mexican Retail Stock ROM (4.1.2) , that is the one I've always used and may give you better results. 4.1.1 may be the issue.

[Q] my Samsung gt-i9000 wont read sim card

Hi im shure this has been written about before, but I'm trying a new tread
My Samsung galaxy gt-i9000 wont read the sim card, and all the post I've read, says it is most likely software fault,
But I've tryed installing stock software with no luck. I can call emergency calls I can get connected to wifi
Follow this link, as it described what I have done
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770240
Anyone who has suggestion of what I can try?
You've likely lost your imei. If you don't have your efs folder backed up then you're gonna need to flash with odin back to stock.

Hi and thanks for reply
When I push *#6# I get an imei number, so I guess thats correct.
However, I think I found the problem, it seems that it's missing one of the pins who should connect to the sim. My sim slot has only 5 pins like this:
Top
''
'''
Bottom
But ive seen on pics, there should be
Top
'''
'''
Bottom
I ordered a replacement part of ebay, so I hope this fix it.
Anyone who knows how many pins the sim slot should have?
