[Q] HTC One boot loop - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi hopefully someone can help me out here.
My HTC One is running Android Revolution HD 41.0, TWRP 2.6.3.3. Last night for no apparent reason the phone shut down, when i tried to power it back on it was caught in a boot loop, getting no further than the HTC logo screen. I can get into the bootloader by holding the volume down key but not recovery. This morning it powered on fine and I have been using it for a few hours today - the phone lost charge and I am now in the same situation again. The only way i can get into recovery is by reflashing using fastboot then immediately booting into it. I can only access the recovery once per flash. Whilst in recovery i attempted to backup the phone and it once again shut down (17% charge at this point).
Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I attempt to reflash the ROM from the recovery? Or try another recovery as there seems to be an issue with the recovery partition also.

I'm currently S-ON, to S-OFF rumrunner says i need to have my passcode disabled. That's not possible as I can't boot... any ideas?

The passcode doesn't matter then
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

I still don't think i'm going to be able to s-off with rum runner as it requires the phone to be booted to andoid "Ensure device is booted to android with usb debugging enabled". I can't boot to android, do i have any other options?

I'm now unable to power the phone on, i've had it on charge for a few hours now and still nothing. Holding the power and volume down button doesn't work either. I was previously able to install new recovery images but flashing a new ROM didn't work as I kept experiencing hanging issues in recover and the last ROM flash crashed TWRP.
I'm considering returning the phone as it is still within warranty but i'm worried i'll have trouble as it has been rooted. Does anyone have any experience of returning a rooted phone?

some workarounds

I am a newbie too but wanted to let everyone know concerning "not charging". I have seen where this is an issue with problem flashes and THIS can be resolved by having a wireless charging unit handy:
http://www.phonearena.com/news/How-...hone-Windows-or-BlackBerry-smartphone_id65805
And for us HTC users, problems have just become a mute point:

[Q] Boot Loop Unless Plugged Into PC?

Tried searching and it doesn't seem like anyone has encountered this problem before. Plugged phone into charger and it started boot looping. The only way it would fully reboot is if I plug it into a PC. But as soon as I unplug, the phone crashes and the boot looping begins again. I've tried different roms with no success.

Hey, thanks for the response!
Currently using TWRP 2.6.3.3.

Would really appreciate any insight into things I could try to fix this. At the very least, I'd like to return to 100% stock so I can use the warranty but I can't seem to S-Off using either rumrunner or firewater.
Does anyone know where I can find a 4.3 stock rom compatible with my device?

use this one
http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_3-22-661-1-zip/
during install choose to install stock recovery
after it's done do a factory reset in the bootloader and then boot up
you bootloop should be fixed
then you can install custom recovery again

That rom installed perfectly but as soon as I pulled out the cable, the phone crashed and went into bootloop again.
I think it's a hardware problem because I was just running stock with no changes when it first started bootlooping.
What else do I need to do to revert everything back to stock so I can use the warranty?

Several issues - Bootloop, can't unlock bootloader, can't restore to factory..

Hey Guys,
Hoping someone can lend a wee hand :
Got an HTC One from one of my friends to attempt to repair for him, getting nowhere. The symptoms all started when he did an OTA upgrade last night. I'll try best describe the issues :
1. The phone bootloops and almost appears to have factory restored. By this I mean it gets past the initial boot screen, presenting me with an "Android is updating, optimising 1 (through to) of 5 applications".
2. Upon completion of this cycle it will load to the lock screen. I then have roughly 10 seconds of life left until the phone restarts altogether, performing all of the above again.
3. I can't unlock the bootloader at all. It'll load to fastboot easily and stay there for as long as I want, however I've tried to use HTCDev about 20 times using the unlock token they have sent me (several times over) to no avail. The screen gives me the "do you want to continue?" message, I select yes, and it reboots. After rebooting and then going back into fastboot/bootloader, it's still showing LOCKED.
4. Booting it to safe mode gives me about 2-3 minutes of life, however I can't get ADB to load as it won't load USB Debugging or connect properly to the computer in safe mode to push a custom recovery to then try a custom FW.
Any ideas what I can do guys? Thanks in advance.
If it helps, here is the info on the bootloader screen of the screen :

As SaHiLzZ mentioned, send it in for warranty, because even if you get it unlocked and even if you get a stable ROM on it, you will very likely fail to S-Off;
3.62.771.3 H3G__001 and 3.63.111.6 (T-Mo Germany), are two variants that firewater and/or rumrunner don't work with.
So off to the shop! and good luck.
Thanks folks, appreciated! He bought it cause his other One was stolen, but bought it second hand so there's no warranty from a store.
HTC are picking it up tomorrow so hopefully they'll be able to do something
Thanks again!

HTC One software update

Hello, I have a problem with updating my HTC One, usually I would go to phone's settings, info, updates, it would scan for new software, download it, reboot, install and it's good to go. Recently I rooted my phone and installed TWRP, now when it downloads the update it reboots but enters TWRP recovery but what do I do from there? If I just reboot I still get the update prompt. Thanks for any help.

a little bit of searching, would have told you that you need to have stock recovery for OTAs to work.... (and obviously stock ROM)
Ok just a quick set of questions then so I don't brick my phone if you don't mind..
So to update I go like this:
- flash stock recovery with TWRP (recovery 4.19.401.9.img I found this?)
- go to settings etc and update as usual
- when updated flash TWRP again
- reroot my phone
I this ok? Will I lose any data doing it like this? My phone is just rooted, s-on.
Thanks.

you're getting the update to .11 ?
anyway, yes, get stock recovery 4.19.401.8, available here: http://d-h.st/0Jy thanks to @Guich
flash that, and you should be good to install the OTA, you may loose root along the way, in which case you'll need to re-root after the OTA

HELP Soft Bricked HTC One M7 (Sprint) S-ON, No OS, RUU Not Running

So I got my HTC one and rooted it immediately and Installed Cyanogenmod 11. I love Cyanogenmod but my SMS and MMS messages were all screwed up. I booted back up from my backup and noticed that It was running Android 4.3, 4.4 is available so I tried to install the update, It failed so I realized this must be because I was rooted so I went about going back to stock HTC Sense. I relocked the bootloader and ran RUU but the program crashed. After that I was only able to get to the fastboot page, recovery would crash. I ran a few different verisons of RUU but each one failed (error 155 being most prevalent). I unlocked my bootloader again and cyanogenmod started to boot up but never got through. I wipe data and cache. CM still won't boot. I reflashed the CWM recovery and tried to load the back up that I had. I get multiple errors about not being able to mount /system, /cache everything. I installed TWRP and tried to do sideload, not working. I have a USB OTG cable and I tried to load files that way, no good. I don't have S-Off and I can't boot into a rom so I can't get S-Off. I've exhausted google, not sure what to do now. Here is a breakdown.

Ok i'm not sure if this is the same RUU from the thread I linked, but on the page 5, "Ph33zy" linked a working exe. I ran that and it went through! What a relief! My phone is running again! Thanks everyone for your help! I worked on this for hours and I feel so embarrassed cause I feel like a noob!
Glad your up and running again.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I was in the same place... searching around whole world, coming back hopeless.. then sent it back to HTC... they used like 1 sec to restore it...

Mine would do the same thing eventually I would get an error on the PC. When I finally found a RUU that matched my exact system "version-main: 3.05.651.6" It ran very smoothly. Make sure the RUU you have on matches your version number that is shown when you boot to bootloader.

How did you get it to have no OS? If the phone is off and you first hold down the volume down button then the power button (keep them pressed till the screen lights up). Make sure that you've also had it charged.
HELP

I Will check MD5 when I get back from work. I have all security disabled, not even firewall is enabled, I've used windows seven and I have relocked my boot loader. I was able to find an alternative version of The RUU I needed on the same thread I downloaded from. Here is the working link to the thread/download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2576995.

I have flashed TWRP 2.8.1.0 (latest version)
I am S-ON
I tried to unroot my phone and firewater told me that my kernel contains anti-firewater files.
so i decieded to flash ARHD, while flashing, I wiped my phone and after that I couldnt flash any ROMs. ( ARHD and a ROM that HTC has sent for me)
I want to flash HTC sense rom and return to stock.
thanks

[Q] Help, Stuck on RUU

Hi guys, I am by no means a noob but here's what happened with my T-Mobile HTC One.
I was running the CM11 lastest nightly with the latest TWRP, S-ON when I decided I needed to go back to stock. So I locked the bootloader using fastboot oem lock after rebooting to the bootloader and since my phone was last on 3.24.531, that's the RUU I flashed (I remember now I didn't run it as administrator the first time). The RUU failed and it said that some partitions basically couldn't be flashed. Not the radio, but the userdata and system for example couldn't be flashed. It was able to flash boot though. I kept trying the RUU multiple times. At first it would keep failing the same way, but now I am stuck on the black HTC logo with the 4 triangles in the corners. I kept getting error 155 even though my bootloader is clearly relocked. Every time I reboot the phone manually it goes to the black HTC screen, and I have to insert and remove the USB cable in order to get to the bootloader RUU mode screen, but there's no option for fastboot. I can, however, seemingly unlock the bootloader and lock at my will and also flash recoveries (I still have my Unlock_code.bin and it does get accepted), but I can't get to them.
Now I have yet another problem, I can't charge the phone because I was about to try this RUU instead (5.14.531.1): http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-t-mobile/news/ but now I get error 120. Any idea how I can get this thing to charge and how I can fix my problem once I get it charged more again? Thanks guys I'm kind of desperate here...
EDIT: Maybe another idea would be to format the partitions manually then re-run the RUU, because I was on CM11 4.4.4 and I was trying to reinstall the 4.3 T-Mobile RUU, and maybe they were confusingly formatted for the RUU? Idk.
Okay when I go to RUU mode looking at the bootloader screen and plug this thing into a charger, FASTBOOT AC lights up, but I can't tell if the phone is charging...is that one way to charge it?
EDIT2:fastboot getvar all output:

Alright, I solved it. Solutions were:
1. YES, fastboot ac does mean that the phone is charging
2. I ran the 5.14.531.1 RUU as administrator, and it worked. Cleared up all the triangles and flashed all the partitions successfully. All good.
