[Q] Upgrading to ICS - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone!! Need some help I recently got update which solved my download mode problem so now I would like to know if ICS runs well on my phone to play games?
Theres a few games i love but cant run on my phone well atm (freezing, restarting phone after freeze).
My Specs:
ROOTED
Model: GT-I9000
Firmware: 2.3.6
Baseband: I9000BUJV4
Kernel: [email protected]

Does anyone know if upgrading to 4.0 on my phone will make a diff or would it make it worse coz phone is old? Also if anybody could run through how to do it and reccommend a rom thats good for gaming maybe?

In my thread about rom choice (xsenman linked it), I've added a small section for gaming, in the second post. Take the time to read through the thread and see what suits you...

My first root and custom room. Samsung GT P1000

Hello guys.
I have just got my used samsung galaxy tab p1000 to day.
I am very happy with my choice. I am going to use this in
my car.
Anyway i want to root this and try some custom rom for this.
I have downloaded this program: SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse
and i have had 1 connect to samsug kies with it. So i know that
i have the right drivers for windows 7 64 bit. Is this the right software to
root this unnit with?
I have stock android 2.3.3 version (Gingerbread) on now. Do i need to
flash new bootloader? I did read that this was not for Gingerbread but just
for froyo? Is that true?
The reason i am asking all this questions, is because i have already hardbricked
2 samsung galaxy S phones already with my stupidness. So i am thankfull for all help i can get.
I am using Cyanogenmod 7 for my LG optimus 2x at the moment, and i must say i love it. Is there a stable version of this for my tab?
Her is the Tab spec:

When it comes to the overcome rom. I cant see the pictures on the overcome guide on their site.
So i cant see how to setup odin correctly.
Thankyou for your help.

I think there's a cm 7.2 version for the GT but I haven't tried it. The latest one is CM9 which is still in the beta phase so it still has some bugs and it's not quite suited for daily use. I'd suggest the overcome rom first and go from there once CM9/AOKP get the major bugs taken care of.
Thanks. I am now using overcome rom. Pretty good rom.
I could not find the cyanogenmod 7.2 on their website. Is this just
a Beta version?
Here's the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931857&highlight=cyanogen
But if you really want to try a CyanogenMod then I suggest going straight to 9. The install process for cm7 is a lot more complicated than for cm9 and if I'm not mistaken they've stopped updating it.

upgrading from 2.3.4 V20C to ICS, need help

after i killed my last p970 and had to send it back to the seller for repair i now ask help to avoid killing another one
see the old thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288081
the new device is:
baseband : XMM6160

I found that official ics is better than cm10,10.1
However according to update use official lg app it's the best to upgrade to official ics

I don't think anyone can download it since the link is broken.
In addition, it seems that this topic isn't updated for a long time, nor his Facebook page.
If I were you I'd have go with @xsenman suggestion.
He linked great threads for you, and the first one is an awesome thread by @Soryuu in which he gives you a lot of help with choosing the right ROM.

Yes, indeed. The baseband is mainly responsible for your cell phone signal. But it depends on your region, which one's best for you. Basebands aren't usually included in the rom, so you can just go on using your current one, if you don't have any problems. I usually flash the latest stock firmware for my region before flashing the rom and then just leave the baseband. But you could also try flashing one of those: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14273164&postcount=4.

CM11 Nightly
Okay, so can anyone answer this? I've searched quite a bit and I don't have a definitive answer yet.
First off:
- I'm currently with an unlocked Bell Canada GT-I9000M (SGS) but my current carrier is Fido/Rogers.
- The current ROM is an official CM11 nightly ROM (20140513).
- I don't know what the kernel is (or that even matters). Kernel version says 3.0.101-g5fba4f [email protected] #1
My baseband is I9000XXJVT
Now for my question...
I'm finding that my reception is crummy, terrible, just plain bad. I'm losing signal all the time. Can I flash one of these modems using ODIN even though they seem to be "older" modems and CM11 is KK?
My hunch is that I can but I want to bee 100% sure before attempting this.
Cheers,
J.P.

Well. It loks like all development for gear one is dead now.
What a shame. Thanks anyway
Is it worth going to COA2 from TizenMod? I need to install apps on my Gear w/ non-touchwiz Phone. Does this work on Coa2 as well?
Currently on the Tizen ROM in Tizen Dev section. I have the US Gear 1. Sorry, been a little out of the loop but am wondering if/how I can go about getting to this ROM or is it not compatible with the US and already being on Tizen.
I have had nothing but fits since upgrading to Tizen and getting "Gear Manager" to connect up and am really at my wits end. Now with my Samsung Note 4 on a lollipop Rom and still trying various methods I've googled, still no joy.
Is there any hope/life left in my Gear 1?
Thanks!
Ok, so I successfully updated my (USA) Gear 1 from Tizen Rom previous to COA2 firmware, then proceeded to successfully Odin this ROM & all is well.
Again, I've been out of the loop a bit. Did a lot more with my Gear when on Android. Anyone with tips, apps, suggestions on how to best utilize this particular ROM w/ root & busybox? Or point me in the right directions for add-ons, ect...
Trying to search but due to the Gear 1 seemingly becoming obsolete now, it is difficult to keep up/find appropriate info to further tweak & utilize this particular ROM.
Appreciate any and all help/suggestions! :good:
Excellent!! Rooted my Gear so I can finally put custom ringtones and notifications! Also it kept all my settings and apps after flashing, like nothing happened.
Thank you.
