[Q] i9000 correct imei yet no service - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been given my friend's original galaxy s to fix as his new sim wasn't working with his phone, so I flashed the stock jw4 rom, but the phone doesn't register with any carriers - so on about phone>status the imei and phone number are correct, but it isn't connecting to it's carrier (thee UK), so I can't make and receive calls with it (or use any other network function). I know the sim isn't blocks or anything because it works in my phone.
I have deleted nv_* files but checking the log i can see that it restores from a backup instead of generating new ones
The phone is the international one and previously ran a three uk sim before...
Any ideas on what can do to fix this?

try inserting sim in the correct direction, cause it can be inserted in the wrong direction too.

Try out a different firmware from your country, if it works use a root explorer to copy the /efs folder in root directory to your sdcard. Flash a new ROM with complete wipe and restore that /efs folder.Power off your phone and remove and reinsert the SIM Card and switch it on.
It should work though not quite sure since on stock network always work

It probably was inserted in the right direction because otherwise it wouldn't have got the right phone number

I used thee ROM that was multi-CSC and it included the united kingdom CSC as well

Incorrect modem?
Perhaps the problem is the modem... But each modem.bin I flash with heimdall, I get no IMEI, unknown baseband, until I flash the stock zip file again - restoring it to JVT. Should I be flashing the kernel that comes with the modem as well?

Yes you should

Have you checked into you internal sdcard if you have a backup? Some custom roms create a efs backup into /mnt/sdcard/backup, when installing them.

Need to know what is your phone model . Check Here to chose your forum/Guide by Version of your phone or you will have more problems by using wrong solutions due to different versions of Galaxy S
use this guide
you can get a rescue kit from My Android Collections and or a solution from My Android Solutions
Use only ROM and solution for your model and Wipe x3
But First powerdown, pull out Battery, SIM CARD, and EXT.SD card, press power button for a minute, than powerup without SIM and Ext.SD Card....
(Do remember to backup your contacts, data, images etc and also your EFS folder before flashing a ROM and make sure you have more than 50% battery charge before you attempt any sort of flashing.)

[Q] no Data/3G/Mobile on my P1000 (Sapir 4.1.2)

Hi guys first and foremost, thank you for reading. I must say this is as a very informative forum with lots of good people in it. This is my first post, and i am an absolute noob so please bear with me. I am posting because i have tried my best to search for answers pertaining to my problem but to no avail, so i hope someone can really help me out here!
so i have a P1000 and bricked it before but anyway am now running
Sapir-10-20121118-nightly-p1-erezak
problem is, the baseband is unknown. which means my sim card does not work. WiFi works fine but i put in my sim card and it doesnt detect a network at all. I have also noticed that Whatsapp is not supported and with the rom, my phone gets warm at the back and power depletes rather fast.
i have doubled checked with a friend who has an unrooted P1000 with the original rom and he told me his baseband was "P1000-DXJPE"
i have gone here
http//wiki.cyanogenmod.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_(GSM):_Support_Downloads
and downloaded the DXJPE modem.bin file and tried to put it in the /radio folder but nothing has changed.
So can anyone help me on this? as in, tell me, in detail how i can make my phone work properly again with data/3g/mobile. Or i will just have to use it as a Wifi tablet.
I read this in the Sapir development thread, and i quote
"Originally Posted by _Derk_
No, just the other way round.
I recommend to have the correct modem.bin (for me JPZ) stored in SD card.
So in one of the cases where you have baseband unknown like now you copy it to /radio folder, even if there is already a modem.bin (which you delete prior). Then just assign the correct authorisations (RWXRWXRWX / 777) and it should work.
Bye,
Derk"
So if this is my answer, can anyone tell me how i can go about doing this? I have no idea what it means!
Another question; is this rom power conservative? My stock GB (or is that Froyo, i cant remember) rom seems to last quite awhile as compared to the Sapir rom. Even if i don't use it, it drains power really really quick in like, a day? Is this normal?
Big drain is normal when you have bad baseband.
The thing you quote, is exactly the same as your own method.
The difference is Derk suggest jpz modem.
So download jpz modem and unzip and place it in /radio
For permission, use root explorer or ES file explorer.
Click long on the file and access its properties, and tick all.

Hi Priyana thanks for the quick response i have already gotten the JPZ modem.bin and put it in /radio. I am actually using Solid Explorer instead of ES Explorer. Root Explorer does not work for some reason. I have also changed the permissions in properties as to what Dirk has mentioned,
RWXRWXRWX / 777
sadly, nothing has changed. What do u suggest i do next?
There was a build in the past that put it in /system/vendor/

Done that. Doesn't work
Has this got anything to do with the Owner & Group for modem.bin? Both are now set as "0:root". Both can be changed to "1000:system", "1001: radio" and "1002:bluetooth".
So by right if i go to "settings/about tablet" i should see the baseband version if everything is ok right?
Yes, should be showing under baseband. Don't know what is wrong, maybe you want to flash different nightly.

Yes i did reboot. I am actually trying to follow your guide to re-stocking. Unfortunately, Odin does not recognise my P1000 in download mode.
This is quite the disaster isn't it? I am ****ed aren't i. :crying:
Noob suggestion,
Wipe everything, factory reset, partition cache, dalvik cache, battery stat. Fix permission.
And reflash the ROM again, after that, reflash the gapps, and reflash the modem. Maybe it'll work.

Flashing modem is really totally unnecessary and leading to confusion if people grab the wrong flash able format.
In stock ROM when we have bml partition, the only way to change modem is via Odin or cwm.
In mtd based ROM, they sit right there in /radio/modem.bin
Odin cant detect the tab is indeed quite weird, but could be driver issue.
For now, try flash cm10 instead?

I have the problem, before miui 4.0.4 works, after Sapir 4.1.2 the 3g is lost,

You need to check if you have IMEI as 004xxxxxxx (bad IMEI) or the normal 35xxxxxxx.
if bad imei, it is corrupted efs

[Q] No GSM Network Found: cm-10.1-20130609-NIGHTLY-p1.zip

Hi Experts,
My device is GT-P1000. I was able to flash the nightly built from cyanogenmod site. I flashed cm-10.1-20130609-NIGHTLY-p1.zip. By the way, I came from AOKP ICS rom.
All is working well for me for the basic tasks that I've tested except that it can't detect our mobile networks here in Singapore which is pretty much a deal breaker. Wifi, bluetooth, etc. are okay. You can see in my attachment that it can't find any GSM network even if I search manually. Is this rom not compatible to Singapore local telcos? Did I miss anything? May be you experts got some ideas.
I have searched the android development forum for CM10.1 Nightly but can't find any relevant solution. Hence, I try my luck here if any of you guys experienced the same issue and was able to solve it.
Thanks in advance.

What is your IMEI showing? If not 35xxxxx, say unknown, or 0049xxx then it won't work. Unknown is due to broken modem.bin. Wrong IMEI is due to corrupted EFS. Either restore from backup found in your sdcard or restock then reflash.

Hi Priyana,
Thanks for your reply. You're correct. I checked the IMEI and it's unknown(shown in attached image).
Correct me if I'm wrong, I need to restore to my backup AOKP ICS rom and then flash this CM10.1 rom again?
Or I need to flash a stock Gingerbread rom then flash CM10.1 rom again?
Thanks in advance,

hi
the best way
flash cm9.1 befor flash cm10.1

Unknown is due to broken modem. Just to to development subforum, there is a sticky thread for modem.
Get the JPZ modem, but don't flash it.
Unzip it, just copy the modem.bin to replace the one in /radio/ of your device.
Use root explorer or similar. Reboot and check baseband again. If IMEI still unknown, better restock.

Hi Jalil,
I tried what you advised but still no luck. The IMEI is still unknown. I even restore my AOKP rom but still the same issue is happening. Thanks though.
I downloaded a stock firmware (gingerbread) and planning to flash it if priyana's advice doesn't work.
I will try priyana's suggestion first before I flash a stock firmware.
Hi Priyana,
I saw the thread that you replied in back in 2012 Oct. Will try your advice. Thanks.

have you also check if you have a backup folder in your sdcard or external sdcard
that has efs folder in it.
Pick the oldest one which is more likely to be the good copy.
Copy the content to replace the one in /efs
Also make sure that you show hidden files in the file explorer, or you will miss important files from that efs back up folder.

Hi Priyana, KasSGT and Jalil,
I was able to fix my device. I did flash a stock rom, root it, and then flash the CM10.1 rom. I now backed up the /radio directory just to be sure.
Thanks for all your advice.

[Q] doesnt detect SIM network

Well after i stupidly got my phone soft bricked, I downloaded and flashed stock 4.3 rom correct to my region. Everyhting worrked fine after that i was able to call and send messages etc. But today i tryed to root the phone, With multiple ways actually, CF-root, thru CWM. but there was some problems, Bit off topic but after i flashed the CF-root i was rooted, But SuperSU asked me to update binary and after that i wasnt rooted anymore :/
and the problem thru CWM that it didnt root at all, Dont know what the problem was...
*knox warranty gone, didnt even know about such a thing before i searched abit...*
Well anyway now i flashed stock rom again, The same that i flashed earlier and now my phone is buggin with the sim card, It will detect it but its not detecting the network or twhatever it it, So its only allowing Emergency calls...
i have tryed pulling the sim out of the phone etc but hasnt worked
I was wondering it it can be phones fault, For the trys of rooting etc.. Or can it just be the sim cards or the providers error?
Did you check your IMEI? 000 or 04x or something weird?

I would try your SIM card on another phone just to make sure, you can usually get a duplicate for free or cheap if thats the issue.
If the SIM card issue is working fine, get hold of the PARAM and WIPE images for your model and run them through Odin, then flash a recent firmware.
At least that is what I would try, but I'm not sure if knox bootloader is going to make it easy for you or not.
Maybe someone else knows more?
Good luck!!!

The sim card cannot be dublicate, As when i bought the phone, Around 4-5 months ago, The normal sim card got changed to the micro-sim that fits into s3.
Im not totally sure what u mean with the "get PARAM and wipe images", and i have flashed the stock rom couple of times, Heck i even ran the Kies FW recovery thingy that does the same thing.. and yea, That ****ing Knox...
WIPE and PARAM are images similar to the firmware ones you used to flash your phone. Except that what they do is completely wipe and re-partition (Think of it like formatting your PC before you install Windows) and then configure the device for the first time. This way we can make sure that it isn't an issue with the way that the firmware was installed (issues can arise if you flash too many times or different roms / versions of android are installed without wiping in between) I don't own an S III so unfortunately I can't help you finding them, though I'm sure someone else will be able to link you to them...

Thanks for the quick replys.
SO installing stock rom thru odin, OR Kies both can fail? if i understood correctly.
Does the region matter on those?
You are most welcome I hope I've been of some help. And yes, there is always a possibility of something going wrong if you do not wipe first (Not so much if you're upgrading from the same rom and android version eg: TouchWiz stock 4.2 to 4.2 , but yes if for example 4.2 to 4.3 or from stock to custom, or vice versa etc..)
As for region, if the model is the same there really shouldnt be an issue, at most you'll have a wrong CSC which would involve having to configure APN settings manually.... But to get that far first we'd need the phone to register on the network.... Which yours isn't doing at the moment... I do not think this is the problem.

So, If id now do full wipe/factory reset, And then flash the stock rom again, Whould it be possible to get the settings back, Or are they now kinda saved thgere?
I think its worth a try..
A wipe will clear all settings, but if you use the right region most will be configured automatically for you (I'm assuming you're refering to the APNs)

Flashing Modems and Bootloaders to work on custom roms

Good evening. First and foremost , i have jumped in and out of multiple threads looking for a solution. I have yet to figure out my issue. So the problem is that i have extracted my bootloader and modem from samsungs stock firmware and flashed it while running a custom rom. However, i still do not have any signal or internet. Ive tried using modems and bootloaders from different updates but that has not worked either. Could it be that i didnt covert the files properly? they both are tar files and are recognized by odin. I also get a pass when i flash them but still no internet or signal. I even tried going to network operators and choosing my respective carrier but that fails as well. I have yet to figure this out so i havent been able to use any custom roms thus far.. (NOTE 5 920K) Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Do you have a visible IMEI and baseband? Is your IMEI all zeros and your baseband null? Does changing your APN do anything? What happens when you flash back to a completely stock firmware? Have you tried a different sim or pulling your current sim card out and re-inserting?

Changing my APN did nothing. When i flash back to stock everything goes back to working including my service and internet. I have not tried pulling out my sim and putting it back in. I will try that soon and check my imei and baseband as well.

Lemme know what your baseband version is and your IMEI after you flash a different bootloader and modem. I'm curious. What ROM are you trying to flash? What bootloader version and modem are you flashing when your signal and service disappear?
