I am running a Verizon Moto X still on 4.2.2. I am rooted. This is NOT the Dev edition. I have plenty of experience with rooting/flashing these phones so back when I first got it the directions on rooting/flashing roms was VERY vague. No one specified you needed the Dev edition to unlock the boot loader. Well I think this came from at one point when I tried to flash TWRP (maybe). Either way, I want to take the OTA update and cannot. Does anyone know how to fix this without doing the RSD, reflash stock method? Here is a picture of what it looks like (thanks for your help in advance):
You should check out the 'Chinese Middleman' thread. If you get the bootloader unlocked you should be able to fix anything.
I can't unlock the bootloader since this is not a Dev edition. Unless something has changed, I'll check it.
You should be able to unlock the boot loader but will not have warranty.

All XT1053s can be unlocked, yes. Additionally, if you follow my advice, you don't NEED to unlock. If one of the commands fails, simply skip to the next as I previously advised, and TRY flashing with RSD Lite after you have run the commands I listed.
If you want to check and make sure fastboot is working, type:
fastboot devices
if you see your phone and it's serial number listed, you fastboot IS properly communicating with your phone.
You do not need to unlock your BL to do any of this...but if you are interested in ROOTING, you will need to.
All I really want to do is make it so my phone can take the update and any future updates. What do you mean as you previously stated?

I tried this as I did before and I get "your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking". All I need to know is how to fix this from someone.

It does NOT require unlocking the bootloader to flash your carrier's correct ROM. Simply follow the instructions in the "Return to 100% Stock" thread to flash the XT1053 ROM, and you'll be able to take all future updates.
If you DO unlock the bootloader, flash custom recovery, and root your device, you will have to un-do any modifications made before EVERY OTA. If you don't care about root, don't worry about unlocking.
Additionally, if you DO want to unlock, you could try a different browser and make sure you are inputting the unlock data correctly. It is recommended that you copy the unlock data from the command prompt to notepad, remove all spaces and bootloader messages (you ONLY want the code - as one complete string), then copy from notepad into the Unlock website.
And finally, keep in mind that unless you unlock your BL, you will not be able to root and disable write-protect once you update to the latest version.
The real problem here is that you use an "Exploit" to root your device previously. Now you need to return to full stock to restore your partitions to their factory state.
Simply follow the instructions in the Return to stock thread (in general sub-forum), and be sure to flash the LATEST version for your carrier. It should be 4.4.3.
Good Luck.

You can attempt to, by either editing the XML in the SBF and removing the line that says "erase userdata", or by skipping the erase userdata if you use the manual method, but either way CAN mess everything up.
You used an EXPLOIT previously. Any time you use an exploit, you should -expect- to have to wipe everything and re-install from scratch if you want to get back to stock in order to be able to take updates. Keep this in mind if you use any exploits in the future.
Hi! This hasn't seemed to spelled out yet..... But many Moto x's can be unlocked, not just dev editions. However, you stated in the opening post that you have a Verizon Non dev, which can not be unlocked. Only way is to pay the "China middleman" (See thread in general with that name).
And personally.... I would stay on 4.2.2 and do the Slapmymoto method to get root and write protection disabled. That is the best root scenario, aside from unlocking the bootloader.
If you update to 4.4.2 or higher, you will have write protection enabled always, and no root, or sorta root with towelroot and pie. But that will limit what you can do.
See the How do I root my phone sticky thread in general for your options.
I should have posted earlier. I ran RSDLite and put the newest version on. I am unrooted. My Moto X is a Sept '13 version the the middleman probably wont work anyways. Its not worth it with this phone, im tired of the rooting, I guess im at that point in my life... Thanks for all your help though guys!

Pardon my jumping in here late but..
I see a big issue here.
Based on that screen shot, you have boot loader 30.B4, that is NOT the bootloader that comes wtih 4.2.2. Did you mean to type 4.4.2? or do you really have 4.2.2 on there?
If you really had 4.2.2 on your phone with a 30.B4 bootloader, then you had 4.4.2 on there at one point, and downgraded!! You need to be REALLY CAREFUL or you will brick your phone.
You are correct, I was on 4.4.2. My wife's S4 that I just upgraded was on 4.2.2. Sorry for the confusion.

Good catch! ?
OP... Perhaps full disclosure of what you have done on the phone would help.
Or is that how it was?
If it's been downgraded to 4.2.2 after being on 4.4.2... As said above.... You could brick now... Especially if you OTA.
I'd tread lightly at this point.

so based on post # 14 of this post... it appears you are all good now? is that the case? Or do you still need help?
Oh, and if your bootloader is locked (Verizon non-DE), you can't get code from China Middle man, and you are on 4.4.2, you could try TowelPieRoot for rooting, but write protection is enabled so it will be kind of limited (compared to SlapMyMoto/MotoWPNoMO or if you had an unlocked bootloader), and there is no root for 4.4.4.
Yes, that was a good catch. What I did was RSD Lite to 4.4.4 now which reset all my data.

Correct, I do not need help anymore but thank you.
hey xda world,
first this is my first post ever on this forum and i cant hold myself of being amazed from how helpful and smart the people here,
my case is kinda hairy so bare with me
now lets get to the mess, so i got yesterday myself a p9 *EVA-L09C02B123/Vodafone*, unlocked its bootloader then installed twrp and root, after doing the process i tried to lock the bootloader because of the annoying message at the bootup, but i couldn't because of an error from fastboot {Root type is risk}.
i looked up the error around the interwebs and xda ofc, and somewhere i found that relocking can only be done if all the partitions are oem/stock, so i decided to get rid of the twrp and flashed back the default recovery from the SRK Tool and still couldnt relock it.
then i started to look for stock roms and couldn't find a stock for the L09C02, so i tried the dload B136 and it failed at 50%, knowing that oeminfo dictates which version the phone should get, i got the C432 one and flashed it using twrp, did factory reset and i noticed the vodafone boot logo being replaced by the default huawei, at this point the build became *EVA-L09C432B123* and tried the b136 dload and still no luck and failing at 50%.
please help ! :crying::crying::crying:
Welcome to xda
Does your phone still boot? And what is it you are trying to achieve right now? Relock your bootloader?

my phone does boot, and yes i want to relock for the reason i might want to sell it but having that boot message is kinda cringey for non power users.
also an update on the case, yesterday after posting this thread i downloaded an update zip from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67122856&postcount=47
then i flashed the zip using twrp and succeeded, now the version is L09C432B136 but still no luck locking the bootloader.
Possible bad download? Try downloading the whole stock rom again.

this is not a fix to lock the bootloader as that is hardware level not software level. Use the tool DC-Unlocker or SRK Tools, look on the other threads under Huawei P9 and you will find these two options to lock the bootloader again. I have already done it on mine after de-branding and network unlocking my (what is now a....) EVA-L09C432B136
If you can boot and have the correct version, I'd say try a factory reset, download that full stock rom again and try flashing. I don't see why that shouldn't work. Unless there is something different hardware wise about those branded ones...
first must remove root via super su, then flash stock recovery then relock
I get a "root type is risk" when i relock with SRK Tool, any idea?

Hello... Why do you specifically ask about Nougat? Unlock/relock is not firmware dependant..

All advice in XDA is not to relock your bootloader because it reduces the possibilities of recovering if you ever make a mess of an update.

Just install a custom Kernel that "kind of" hide your unlocked bootloader. EX Kernel, Franco and some others will be just fine. Android Pay will work... I would never lock the bootloader of mine, except for RMA purpose. If something fails, you have way more chance fixing it..! :good:

Yeah don't worry, it's still a Nexus
RacerXO - did you get Android Pay to work on the N6F26U Build? I also cannot get the bootloader to relock. I tried using WugFresh Nexus Root Tookit v2.1.9.
Did you install a custom Kernal? Wondering if this the answer. Thanks for the help.
I was unlocked from the first day I got the phone. Today I am locked, running nougat. Having read some of the horror stories here, I've always booted the phone after flashing updates before rooting. Did the same thing when I went back to stock to use AP. I backed everything I wanted to keep and made sure it booted, before I locked the bootloader. No issues after almost a month.
What I wound up doing was go to the T-Mobile page and established the official latest factory image was 6.0.1 MMB29K - installed that using Wugfresh. After installing and logging into WiFi and my Gmail account was prompted to install 7.0.0 NBD92G - this installed fine and then after installing a couple of security updates (thru April 2017) was able to Re-Lock my Bootloader (I wanted Android Pay to accept my credit cards). Data reception is still degraded significantly, am now thinking there is a problem with the tower.

Rooting with Magisk then using Magisk manager to "hide" root should give you android pay again. This may not be the directing you want to go in, but it is an option.
I locked Bootloader but you have to flash stock recovery 1st
I was on stock 7.1.1 unlocked bootloader, rooted Nexus 6.
I relocked my bootloader by simply going into adb/fastboot and flashed the latest stock factory firmware image (not the ota) with the June 5, 2017 security update, rebooted, activated developer options and enabled usb debugging, adb/fastboot again, and entered the command "fastboot oem lock", hit okay/yes when I got the relock warning, and voila! phone relocked.
Rebooted and set up phone/reinstalled my apps, music, and files.
No issues.
I have attached my unlocking software, if you are still on android kitkat you can immediately unlock and if youre on android 5.0 or 5.1.1 the software will help you downgrade, once you have unlocked the bootloader you can upgrade back to the new software.
Thanks, working trough it on *nix atm, i tried the method described to unlock the bootloader officially, or so i thought, the method has been removed from the Huawei web site. Registering an account was required to obtain the unlock code but this resulted in me having to editing the page to add my country number as the country was not listed to get the sms unlock code.... At the moment i am preparing to hack the device but have not currently found the file for the B856 firmware it's running. I do not want to for example downgrade the baseband, the baseband will need to be hacked a little bit in order to get Android 7.x, i believe is the case.
Rooted my system and backed up all the partitions. Everything but userdata that is,

This software is for the p7-l10 so im not sure if it will work for l12 but it may work, just download it, connect your phone via a usb cable, run the bat file and then choose the option you want from the listed options (unlocking bootloader)
As I can root the huawei p7-l12 the apps to perform this procedure are automatically blocked, I mention it because in the executable root appears necessary.
Hi, I can confirm that this method works for the huawei p7-l12.

So I am stuck with this at the moment. To unlock the bootloader, I need to have the phone rooted. And to be able to unroot, I need to have an unlocked bootloader.
I already tried to downgrade back from 5.1.1 to a lower version, but I was not succesfull.
How can I get an unlocked, rooted P7?
That is nice, thanks.
Howeever I need to get back to 5.1.1, while keeping it unlocked/TWRPed, will OTA work, or i need to do incremental flash through TWRP? As i understand doing it by UPDATE.APP would lock the bootloader again?
EDIT: never fk mind.
You know what... DC Unlock really gives you the code for 4€, and it takes 60 seconds.
So after 5 hours of downloading and flashing roms, now I suddenly have TWRP and Magisk after 5 minutes and easy instructions. Couldn't recommend more.

guys please help
after unlock bootloader of your device your data has been erased ?
Please help fellow person in trouble here guys, i have so many data stored in the device and the device only shows Always on Display (AOD) running after the update finished and restart. Can somebody tell is it possible to at least get my data back? My bootloader are not unlocked and I use global device performing local update using zip via Updater app. Then suddenly the black screen happen after the device prompt to reboot :/
You flashed the whole rom or the ota update? Im asking because i flashed the same as you yesterday 12.0.9.0 RKBMIXM but my bootloader is unlocked and i flashed the whole rom file (3.1gb) and everythings working fine for me
Same thing happened to mine, when updating via updater, flashed whole 3.1gb, after updating then rebooted it got stuck on bootloader, so i factory reset then it got locked, had to go to service center as the password on my mi account wont work. My bootloader was locked also btw.
Seems like the locked bootloader is the problem. Can someone else confirm this?
Usually you can try to enter recovery mode to wipe data. Which will format the phone, because the version you're trying to flash isn't yet stable to flash. Hope this helps.
Yes, after flash and reboot it will become blank screen, but when try to turn off, the usual four icon menu will appear, just restart into recovery and wipe data will start the phone successfully.
