Any suggested apps for using Gear to track sleep? Either using a side loaded app or with a custom ROM?

+1 I use this on my note 3 and it is very good. I never thought of running it on the gear though.
Interested if you do!

Not the OP, but I get up a couple of hours before I have to work, so theoretically that's all I need.
Is there such an app that can run on the Galaxy Gear then?
So much like the fitbit bands and the new Gear 2 range it will monitor your sleep??

Yes and no. The Gear 2 sleep monitorig is very poor and only limited to 'no movement detection'. So if you havea bad night and cannot sleep, but just keep your eyes opened it will just tell you that you had no movement for 100% of the nigt.
Not reallly a monitoring system that should be linked to heart beat and other valuable information.
True but given that a FitBit or other fitness band would also not be able to tell if you have your eyes open or not, its never going to be the most reliable way of recording sleep anyway!
With regards to the Galaxy Gear then... you're saying that there is an app to use on the watch itself?
Sleep as Android
I used ADB to install Sleep as Android. I bought this app a few years back, and I've loved it ever since.
Used it on all my android phones
-HTC Aria
-Motorola Atrix
-Samsung Galaxy
-Samsung Galaxy Note
-Samsung Galaxy S4
I just got a Galaxy Gear 1st Gen, and figured it was worth a shot. It installed and ran without issue here at the office. When I get home in 3 hours, I'll do a quick charge of my Galaxy Gear (I love how fast this thing charges) and then I'll go to sleep and see how the battery holds up and how the tracking does.

well... that didnt work out as well as I hoped. I came home, curled up in bed. Set the app, the screen dimmed off, and I went to sleep. I woke up around 2pm, and went to check the app and its nowhere to be found under apps. I checked in the background apps, its running, but when I tap on it, it doesnt launch. I rebooted the watch, the app is missing from the apps section. Im going to install nova launcher and try again later
Graph Indeed Saved
So I got into the office tonight, and sideloaded NOVA Launcher, and found the "missing" sleep as android app
looks like it did properly exit and grab my sleep graph. Today when I get home I'll try setting Nova Launcher as my default (this scares me, as I'm worried about it interfering with watch functionality) as see if it works a bit smoother, than it did yesterday.

From the official demo video, the app seems to detect patterns as if it was the phone lying on your bed. having the app on your hand would (i think) give the accelerometer much different results. Does your method seem work well? I'm really interested in getting this watch if this works!

Is anyone having issues with the stock alarm? I double even triple checked and I am 100 percent sure ny alarm settings are set to the correct time, hour of day and days of the week. It has caused me to be late for work multiple times. Someone have an explanation ?, please help thanks

Sadly I know exactly what you mean. Mine would crash when it's supposed to go off. Factory reset didnt work. I asked in a couple forums and only few others had the issue. I switched my phone out but have been paranoid to test it and have been using timely (cool alarm app). Unfortunately it seems related to all the other software issues the note 3 has (tmobile note 3).

Timely works perfectly. It's a bummer to HAVE to use a third party app. But don't want to take the chance that it won't work. I just hate that all the bugs on Note 3 haven't been more widely reported.

I've been noticing that my alarm doesn't work either. I'm on KitKat now, but I don't know if the problem started before then. I'm using the built-in alarm app. I haven't seen the alarm app crash, but nothing happens at the appropriate time--except that afterward, the alarm is shown as disabled (grey icon), whereas previously it was shown as enabled (grey icon).
The settings for type, tone, and volume are all correct. Location alarm is off.

I programmed the gear to sync data every 3 hours, but it doesnt work. Even if i press "sync now" it doesnt take the data from the watch. It seems as if the phone and watch each calculate my steps in their own way and never talk to each other... Anybody know why? Honestly, I'd stop the phone from counting my steps because its inacurate as it sits on a counter for most of the day, the watch is always on me so i know i can trust its data.

It does not sync with s-heath, at least the original version on your note, instead you should download Fitness with Gear app from Samsung store. Everything will be fine.

What version of S Health does the new S5 have as it seems older phones like the Note 3 are currently limited to an older version that doesn't have the same level of integration with the new Gear 2 devices?

i work for samsung. again if you have other phones including the note 3 they work great with fitness with gear and sync perfect. if you side load s-health and the health services app you will have trouble with both apps. s-health works with kitkat only properly as it was explained to me. if you have side loaded s-health and health services delete them and use fitness for gear as they have almost the same function and it works perfect on my note 3 and has most of if not all of the functionality of s-health

Still bugs in Fitness With Gear app: can't change Miles to Kilometers on Pedometer screen and Last Update time on that screen is listed in UTC rather than local time. Also, no data is reported on Sleep Monitor screen for hourly reporting.
I'm not sure fitness app works with s5, i dont see it in playstore, samsung apps, and i even tried to sideload it but the install fails

This is a generic question to Galaxy Gear users...
I have an app on my phone called 'Sleep as Android' that measures my sleep. It currently integrates with Pebble for better accuracy than laying your phone near you while you sleep.
A user posed a question to the developer of 'Sleep as Android' about developing the app to work with Galaxy Gear.
The response from the developer was that perhaps 'Sleep as Android' could be side loaded onto Galaxy Gear directly.
Has anyone here used 'Sleep as Android'?
Has anyone attempted to load this app directly to their Galaxy Gear?
Does it even sound doable???
I am not really interested in a Pebble watch. Pebble has poor reviews and does not appear to be even remotely appealing to me.
On the other hand, Galaxy Gear is something that I could see my self wearing and using.

I went ahead and gave it a try just for you!
I wasn't able to install it directly on the gear via the play store. Some error, so I side-loaded it by installing it on my phone first and using titanium backup's "send latest backup" feature. (you'll need titanium on your Gear as well to restore the backup)
Opens right up and appears to be running smoothly. Maybe I'll give it a go for some sleep tracking. Got a 14 day trial.
Oh, I'm using NULL_ ROM.
I guess you could side-load it using one of the other methods if you don't want to flash. (I've no clue about that stuff, however)

The user interface is kinda tight on the tiny screen, but I haven't had any problems clicking on anything yet!

Dude, you are awesome(x2!).
If you use it during sleep, let me know how it does....
Am sure the sleeping/noise(snoring) graphs and stuff may be hard to read on such a small screen though.
There is an add-on to upload to cloud. I guess I could use THAT to see the graph details, etc..
Yea, I would be curious how this works myself. I suppose since the Gear has motion sensor, it should work for tracking sleep. The only concern I would have is battery drain. I know the app even warns of that and when I used to use this on my old Droid Razr Maxx, I would have it connected to the wall and stretched to the bed whilst on charge. Can't really do that with the goofy arse cradle system the gear has and still wear it. :silly:

Since it's meant to be ran on a phone laying next to you, you could just leave it cradled up next to you. I couldn't sleep with a watch on, anyway. End up rolling over and smacking my wife with it or something... Speaking of that, I wonder if it accommodates for two people in the same bed. Haven't really had a chance to play with it.

I am new to tasker and I thought I had some slight understanding of it, but I was wrong. I have a Galasy S6 running Marshmallow and I am trying to enable tethering when my phone connects to my cars bluetooth and has to be charging. It keeps failing to enable tether. Can anyone guide me in the right direction to accomplish this?
I came here with this exact same issue. I have it set up to trigger wifi tether when my vehicle headunit is in range, but it's not working automatically. If I manually trigger the profile it works fine though.

Well, I've redone it using Secure Settings and since I did it here at work today, I haven't got out to the Jeep to test it yet, but they all trigger manually. Here's screenshots of it. I'm using State - Net - BT Near profile to hopefully trigger, won't know until I get out to the vehicle.

I've read that different phones respond to turning the hotspot on differently.
Have you tried the built in wifi tether within tasker and not the Secure Settings hotspot?
Also, are you rooted?

Yeah, I've been trying many different things which is why I posted an updated screenshot. I can't get this to work for the life of me.
I'm going to concede defeat and run it like this. All that's required from me is to switch off my headset before I turn the key. Was hoping for 100% automation, but this works as well.

Unfortunately I am not rooted so i can't use the second link, which is the best option. The first link seems to defeat the purpose of automation. I guess I need to accept defeat that it is not possible on the S6. :crying: Thanks for trying to help.
Are you willing to root it?

No, if I root I will loose samsung pay, which I love. I just wonder what makes the S6 uncapable of having an app switch tethering.
Ahh ok, i understand. I dunno man, from my research all phones are different when it comes to tasker.

Just tonight 4/27/23...got my update -- watch is SM R920. Post update, Software version is R920XXU1AWB1 System version 11, Wear ver 3.5 Wear core services 1.4.69.512673544. Update took about 20 minutes after the download. Seems like SpO2 is better than before, used to have to measure it with a finger now it appears to work on my wrist. I can (so far) find nowhere that body temperature is available or enabled. As a side note I am in Ecuador FWTW as far as regional settings/restrictions go.
Couple notes. Reboot after the last reboot thats part of the software update is a must. Trying to do anything without a manual reboot on mine was very laggy. The reboot helped. Seems on mine that SpO2 and ECG are definitely better but on stress and SpO2 the display seems a little laggy......also when charging the time display, batt % and time to full are different than before, larger and at center screen, something I personally like. Also note that the security patch is 2023-04-01.

So is mine, but mine is AWD6
This is truly weird. When I did the post mine was AWB1. Now it shows AWD6 same as what you see. thanks for this info. I am reading...and was reading...the information from the Galaxy Wearable app on the phone. Truly amazing. Without your kind reply I never would have spotted this.
Regards and thanks again.
An addendum. I have thin wrists, have always had problems with SpO2 since purchase....to the point where I finally gave up trying to read it with the watch on my wrist. Reading SpO2 with the watch on the same finger I use my monitor on....the watch would agree within a point. Before the update when it would read at all it would consistently be sometimes 5 points off. Since the update the watch so far reads reliably on my wrist and is within a point of the monitor. Additionally the watch seems more reliable reading ECG than before less poor reading messages with the necessity to read ECG again. Only thing I wish is the temperature sensor was enabled in the new update. Otherwise most excellent so far from Samsung. Will be interesting to see how battery life compares.

Yes, but do you actually have in settings option to "predict using skin temp"?
Cause I bet like me (also running WDA on Watch 5 Pro) you don't have that option even if you select Cycle Tracking which men don't use.
