[Q] My phone just died?

Last night I was just browsing and the phone froze up and I had to pull the battery. This usually happens 3 times a day and it's just fine. But last night it just died. It still won't charge or turn on. Can anybody help? At this point i'm thinking about just getting a Nexus.

Oh I hate to hear this as you are a regular around here lately. Sounds to me like you OCd too much and fried your phone. I say that because of the many battery pulls you had to do all the time which is a symptom of OCing too high. Am I right on this or were you using a stock kernel?

I wasn't using an OC kernel. I was using CM10.1 stock.

Wow sounds like you had a bad phone then. Any chance you are still under warranty? If not well then if you can move on to something like the Nexus I would.

Ok, If you plug your phone into your PC you will probably see it recognized as a strange device, basically you have hard-bricked your phone and unless you have access to JTAG for your exhibit II and the ability to use it you are probably boned, It's rare for this to happen but it is the same kind of issue that occurs when pulling a battery during an OTA update.
Congrats, you won the Lotto.
Call T-mobile, tell them the phone won't turn on, don't resist and they will ask for your IMEI and all the related account info, you will be asked to ship your phone to them for a free replacement If you qualified under warranty still.

Yeah I feel your pain. It has been a one year war to get this thing to perform without freezing, rebooting and so on. It's fine if you use a GB ROM like RR or CM7 but I've gotten to rely on Google Now and don't want to give it up. Trying CM10.1 with PBE kernel for a few days. It froze up a bit today but I think much of the problem lies with Superuser which seems to be slow as Christmas at granting super permissions after booting. After switching to SuperSu, OCing to 1612 max (ondemand) with SIO things are running nice. SO FAR!!! Use to think SuperSu sucked but I'm starting to find out the truth.
This is kind of a last ditch effort. I have someone who's willing to buy it and if they decide to, that's all the excuse I need to get another phone. I don't think I'll get the Nexus though due to the fact it does not have expandable memory from what I can tell and even 16gb is not enough for me as I have a lot of music stored on my card.

Actually the Nexus 4 is perfect for me. I uploaded my music, picture, and video collection to Google. I keep like 1-2 high end games on my phone (most are on my Nexus 7). I'll be ordering the 8GB soon.

Why try to improve an outdated os? Just because a phone was shipped with or never updated past gb doesn't mean it was only meant to run that os

Besides RR ofcourse which is also a nice ROM. An do believe Exquizit (sp) but recall there was a security problem? Not counting Peach in this simply cause as i believe Jocala put it "debloated stock".
Any how just wondering how fast and smooth GB could be with the right dev on the job.

Issues with CM10.1

I'm having issues with this ROM on my Kindle Fire HD 7". I recently installed it and got everything set up properly, including Netflix. However, when I try to play any game, sound will stop functioning and the game will begin to freeze up. After this, Netflix begins to stop working properly as well. The problem persists until I reset the Kindle. Any advice on what could be happening?

The kernel has a lot of issues with sound. While some users report no problems, I have an audio bug where turning on a music player will render the screen dark until reboot. Some others report no sound at all.

I see. Do you think that reflashing the ROM would help these issues at all? Or is it just a matter of waiting for an updated version?

No, if the ROM file had issues you would be having bootloops and freezes. Just wait for now.

cm10.1 Digitizer issue
Has anyone noticed the digitizer being shorted somehow while charging?
when mt KFHD is plugged in the digi does not respond to the same spot i am touching.

Possibly the kernel, but don't quote me. It originally happened on stock Amazon, too, because I experienced it myself. Thought I was messing something up so I factory-reset it, lol.

You know the only time I noticed it doesn't do that is with the official amazon quick charger. Otherwise every other charger has that problem. So unless you have the quick charger, you can't use it plugged in. Like seokhun said, voltages.

I've had success using Samsung's wall charger that came with my S3, just plug in the Kindle USB cable. But when I plug it into my laptop, the tablet gets hot

Yes i have that exact same bug that you have, Weird thing is, ParanoidAndroid does not have this problem even though it is based off hashcode's cm10.1, So even though i am not really a big fan of PA, But i guess i'll just stick to it until hashcode patches this bug

There is a fix, This problem is hardware related mostly, I bet the charger you are using has a current output below 1800mA, This can cause the touch screen to become unresponsive and in some cases (like mine) Its like a ghost is randomly touching and swiping across the screen. Just get a charger with 5v 1800mA+ and this will be fixed

i'll have to try that. curently im using an ipad block with output of 5.1v and 2.1A (2100mA)

[Q] battery draining ridiculously fast, any idea?

I've never had this problem with my other Notes. In the last couple of weeks I noticed this started to happen, where I'm losing battery ridiculously fast where I can't really use the phone for more than 3 hours. Battery stats show that "Android System" is using the battery. I got the G Sam Battery Monitor app, which reflects the same thing.
But Android System could be any number of things. Any idea what I should be looking at? Where I should start trying to find a culprit?

Is GPS icon flashing? If so, check which app is running in the backgroud that is using GPS.
Also, clear all of your recent apps and see if it fixes it.

No GPS isn't flashing. And I've gotten in the habit of clearing the recently opened apps. Memory shows 2GB of usage but "no active applications." I can't tell if something in the background would be using GPS.

Clean wipe, Odin flash the stock NJ7 build. re-root
Then reflash the ROM you want. Most likely you got something hung up in the code that it is trying to use and is failing so it is constantly running.
That our you have Facebook installed. Jk, sorta for real though worst app ever for battery.

I do have Facebook, and I'm a Facebook and 9Gag abuser, but if those were the apps draining battery, the stats would reflect them, no?
Like I said, I've never experienced this issue. In the past (see my long list of smartphones) I've always been able to pinpoint what's using my battery. Not this time.

Facebook hides a lot of battery usage in the ”Android System“ umbrella. But you should be getting much better battery.

You guys should 1 get wake lock detector. Charge battery and let it go for a few hours and see wake lock. Also is ur phone deepsleeping.? More screen shots would help of everything.

Yes, but that's also not the cause of the battery issues. As Samsung doesn't ship out a phone expecting it get 5 hours of battery life and blame it on "LOL we bloated your phone."
I will undoubtedly end up rooting the phone, as I have done with all others, but I don't want to at this point.
Last night it ran out of battery completely while I was at the bar, so I couldn't charge it. That's the first time the phone shuts off in 21 days since I first got it. All my widgets on Go Launcher were lost for some reason. I'm going to let it run through the battery today and get some screenshots later.

Samsung may not but TMOBILE and all the junk running behind the seems and carrieriq and quite a few other things will. Yes they do bloat you and laugh at ya. Either way if you wanna experience great battery life root and get to work. You can also try to leave stock fresh wipe no apps and see for yourself how much bloat hurts you.

Sorry, forgot to come back to the thread. After that night when I ran out of battery and the phone turned off (for the first time since I purchased it), I've had great battery life again. So something was definitely stuck. I've now restarted the phone and used it heavily the last two days and the phone has lasted me many many hours.

so lately in morning phone will run okay...as the day goes on and as the battery drains some it will become almost unusable . 5 to 10 second freezing in lag when switching or opening apps....lock screen freezing black screen etc. had the phone since release and didn't have e problem until recently. Makes me think it may be hardware or an app ... Is there an easy way to see what is slowing phone down? Reminds me when pc has malware just lags so slow. Any ideas?

Not that I know of. You can grab CPU-Z and see what your CPU load is. If its high, then its definitely an app.
Also keep in mind if the phone is hot, it runs slower. This is true of every smartphone out there and the higher end ones suffer from it more. I've only managed to slow this device down during an extended game and that was due to throttling.

Mine started doing this the last 2 days also!!!! I was gonna take it back.... I don't think its CPU load, my phone does not get hot. I did use 4k video record yesterday, wonder if that had something to do with it... or an update to an app.

The phone doesn't have to feel hit to throttle.

Just thought I'd throw my hat into the ring on this one.
I had the same issue here after the last update. A hard reset sorted this.

By some stupid chance, do you have the widget that shows the time, weather, battery and such on your homescreen???
I just noticed this on mine, when the phone lags, the animation for the weather does not happen, as soon as it does, the phone will respond. Its like its waiting for the widget to update before anything else. So, I removed the widget and the phone is much smoother. No more lag. Gonna still have to try it for a few more hours, but I think that's it (at least for me).

As for my situation, I switched back to dalvik and used a cleaner program from the play store and seems to be running much better now.... I'll be interested to see if the findings from removing the widget hold up for the rest of the day for u

So far, about 2 hours and no lag!!! It was an instant fix. I had the lag, removed it and presto!! Gone!
Edit/update
I have had 0 lag ever since!!! I am 95% positive that the widget was the cause.

The binary error is due to there being a couple different versions of this phone.
We'vre got a c50, ms345, and a h345 recovery. The mpcs ROM is only built to flash on the ms recovery since lollipop looks at the device name and not the hardware set when flashing ROMs on certain recoveries.

Been using this as a daily driver since the second week of Jan. It pretty solid. I use tasker to enable GPS automaticly when needed, this has solved my reboot issues... occasionally still have one now and then but I honestly can't remember when the last one was. I also use Power Cam in the Play Store and video recording is ok.

I also use powercam to record video. However, I get a bit frustrated when i see that its recording in 480p when the camera is 1080p. Just curious does this happen to you as well?

Anyone have any luck getting camera to save to ext sd. Mine just says insert sd.

Any one else experiencing severe battery drain on this ROM? I woke up at 8:30 with 75% battery and fell to 66% within not even 15 minutes.

Three step process.
1. Set up a wake lock detector, see if any apps are waking the phone while it is at rest.
2.always make sure any features you don't need at the moment are off.
3.download a CPU monitor and let it measure your usage down to the last 15 percent, if anything seems out of the norm. Try and find a countermeasure.
I personally had an issue with the CPU ramping up to max clock speed at the slightest tap on the screen and the CPU would not ramp back down for almost 8 seconds.

I use the twrp 2.8.7.0 and my phone is the ms345
I already tried installing cyanogenmod and i had the same problem a bsod

I have tried to take out the battery and leave the night off charging the battery and the BSOD occurred every time when i turn on my cell phone and after 30 seconds the blue screen appears
