Hi guys, I have a 64GB SanDisk Ultra MicroSD class 10 card. I use it on my Samsung Galaxy s3. Couple of days ago I went to my friend and ask him to give me some movies. He was sending it via data cable but we got frustrated and we had to go somewhere so in the middle of transferring data he unplugged the cable and now my SDcard isn't working anymore. I mean can it be damaged just because we unplugged it in the middle of transferring? I've done it so many times before but it wasn't really a problem. Anyway I'll try to explain what I did with my card since then and what was it's response.
1. The data in the card is intact, I've backed it up as well and when I put my card into my phone it works perfectly. (btw the card was in FAT32 format)
2. I can copy stuff into my card but when I put into my phone it wouldn't show and when I put it back on card reader again the file disappears.
3. I can delete stuff from my card then I take it out and put it back again and the file that I've just deleted comes back.
4. I've tried formatting it but it would give me an error.
5. I've used Easeus partition manager but it would give me an error as well.
6. Then I've used the software I've used when I first formatted the card to FAT32. Guiformat. It would format my card normally but when I go into my card all the files are there.
7. I've tried using commands like "chkdsk d:/r or chkdsk d:/f etc but after like 44% it would say certain files are invalid and can't continue the do the checkdisk command (the file it shows was the files I tried to get from my friend)
8. I've tried so many other stuffs but none of them seems to able to format my card.
now my question to you guys is my card really dead? can it be dead just for interrupting file transfer? is there any way to get my card back to normal? anyway I can format my card? I'd really appreciate it if any of you guys can help. Thanks

I tried to copy a bunch of files to my sd card and it crashed during it and says that the sd card is damaged. it says it needs to be formated. but when i try to do it in hero it does nothing. How can i format it. when i try to phone just sits there and then locks up and shuts off. have to pull battery and restart.
no one has a answer. there has to be a way. i need my sd card. i dont want to have to buy a new one when i have 2 that should work.
I had a similar issue with a 1 year old 16GB card last week. Card was destroyed and I couldn't get anything off of it. The MBR was damaged and wouldn't be re-written. Had to go get a new card :-/
Tried this one:

I used my mac and disk utility to format, partition and a bunch of stuff... then i formated using my hero. it worked after that
Ok.. the other day I had booted my phone into recovery so that I could do a nandroid backup, the backup was completed but when I restarted my phone I got a mess!get saying my ad card was damaged, it prompted to format which did nothing. I took the card out and plugged it into my computer which was able to see it and read the files. I am confused because my comp will read the card and I am able to flash files off the as card thru recovery. I have tried reformatting the card thru my pc and thru recovery but no luck.
I have read through a lot of different threads regarding as cards not reading or cards saying that they are damaged, but I have tried everything and my hero will not read the card and says its damaged.
If anyone has any ideas on what to do plz let me one.
Thanks
time for a new sd card.
I've had this happen to me many times and the file that's always the culprit is the file that contains the small images of web pages for the bookmark widget. Running a check disk in recovery mode fixes the prob right away.
I think the file is bookmark_thumb.1 or something like that.
I had the same thing happen to me on a
8 Gig sd. everytime i hooked to the pc it would ask to format and than would show damaged on my phone. I took mine out for a while and formatted it in my pc. Quick and regular. I used it to transfer files for a while not saying you have to do it this way. I have recently put it back in my hero and it is working fine. Its only a 8gig class 2 card. im looking into a higher class card soon.
I have AT&T Tilt with Sakajati's HyperDragon IV Windows Mobile 6.1 OS ROM, I also have this 8 GB micro SD card, which has around 3.5 GB of data, but for some reason I am not able to write on it any more. When ever I tried to format it I get this message which says " The card is write protected" I don't remember putting any password or anything. I can read data from that card on any computer or phone, but can write anymore data on the card. I can't delete anything from the card either.
Can someone suggest what could be wrong with the card and how can I unlock it?
I have tried low level format also, the format completes without any error, but when see in file explorer all the files are still there. If I try to format from SD formatter, I get error "The memory card is write protected", windows format doesn't give any error, just runs and in the end says "Windows can't comeplte the format". Card is working file and have no problem in reading the data it has, just can't write new one ot delete old one.
This is very weird problem... any help/comment is good.
Not sure if this will help....
I've had very similar issues over time...
Because of high TomTom & Music Use.
Both are loaded and work off my SD Card (6 GB worth)
What I finally found that worked for me, was to get a 2nd card and backing up my SD card to my Desktop PC, so later I could transfer to the 2nd SD Card when needed.
Then I do a Complete Format [Full FAT32 Format] of the old SD Card, via the Mini SD adapter on my Desktop PC.
I found that formating within the phone doesn't always work...
If this is not the case I can think of 2 other reasons for potential problems..
~Some ROM's require the removal of SIM & SD Cards when installing?
~If you were using an adapter formating the SD Card and it was not set to write mode?
Best of Luck!
JAC,
Thanks for your reply, but I have already tried FAT32 formatting using micro sd card, but as I said before, but it errored out.I even tried low level format, but didn't work. There is no locking swithc or anythign in micro SD card, not sure how the data can be locked. If it was ecrypted I was not able to read data on other devices. So what happened? Any help!!!
Like everything else, sometimes things just wear out, break or are just low quality to begin with. If you can read it on other devices, then transfer it and get a new card.
There is also a trick used by nefarious suppliers that takes a 4GB (or any size chip) and format it in a way that it appears as a larger chip. Then when you go to write to it the whole thing goes crazy.
This is why I recommend using reputable resellers and buying good quality Name Brand Chips, Like Sandisk or Kingston.
I've got a problem with replacing the SD card. I searched for it and it seems like no-brainer. But I don't know what the problem is:
I bought a 16 GB Transcend to replace the SanDisk 2GB that came with my Liquid.
I have [Leaked]Froyo ROM. I had many apps on SD and some on the phone.
Here is what I did:
- I unmounted the 2GB card in my phone and turned it off.
- I put the new card and turned the phone back on.
- Then connected the old card with a card reader to my Mac. Also, connected the phone via USB and turned the USB storage on.
- I just copied everything from the old card to the new card and turned the USB storage off.
Now here's the problem:
None of the apps on SD are working! And they are not linked! It seems they are not installed.
When I tap their home screen icons, I get the error: "The application is not installed on your phone"
Also, only the apps on the phone are shown in applications.
I double tried the same process with formatting the new card in the phone, but got the same thing. I also copied the hidden folders as well. No luck with that, too.
Any suggestions? It is really driving me ...
BTW, I put the old card back and it is working just fine.
Problem Solved!
I finally found out what the problem was and upgraded my microSD successfully with all the applications working.
I decided to post the SOLUTION so it may help others as well:
The key issue is in the .android_secure folder on the SD card. Before this, I didn't know it is the place where Froyo puts all the apps that are transferred to SD.
Here are the steps that worked for me:
1) Unmounted the old SD and turned the phone off.
2) Copied EVERYTHING from the old card to my PC (I used a card reader).
**ATTENTION: By everything I mean all the files and folders including folders starting with "." (Especially .android_secure)
3) Formatted the new card (FAT32) using the Windows.
**FOR CAUTION: DO NOT use the phone to format the card. Because it makes a .android_secure and it will screw with the one you want to replace. [If you have done it anyways, just make sure to REPLACE the .android_secure folder]
4) Connected the new card to the PC and paste everything to it.
5) Put the new card in to the phone and turn it back on. BINGO! All should work without any problem.
I'm having a weird problem with a Nexus One. It had a 2GB microSD card in it that seemed to go corrupt (all the file names went crazy) so I reformatted it and it happened again within minutes. So today I bought a new 8GB microSD card and and the Nexus now gives the error of "Blank SD Card - SD card blank or has unsupported filesystem." It is unable to format the card, but it doesn't give an error. I tried formatting the card to FAT32 on my computer, still the phone thinks it is blank/unsupported.
I'm hoping the SD slot isn't fried... any thoughts?
You could try reformating the SD card in a computer using SDformater with erase on.
I have the same problem for a few weeks now. My phone can't seem to read the sd card at all. Thought it was the sd card so I bought a new one, but problem remains. I know both cards work (have tested them in another phone and the computer reads them). I've tried formatting the card in the phone and reformatting with erase on using SDFormatter in my computer but my phone refuses to read it. Think it might be my sd slot as well...
Currently running CM 7.1.0. Haven't tried a factory reset or flashing another ROM (how would one go about doing that with no sd card?) as I'm not too keen to lose that data if I can help it.
Did you manage to fix it?
I was not able to fix it and after many hours of troubleshooting, so I gave up. Good luck to you, and please reply if you find a solution.
