unable to root z1 - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

iv'e been trying to root my z1 for a couple of hours now, iv'e tried all the tools that have been listed on all tutorial posts such as, flashtools,
ROOT´óʦ, and kingo android root all 3 of them without any success
iv'e posted the log from when trying to root my phone with flashtools below and it just hangs on "30/013/2014 16:13:37 - INFO - Waiting for device. After 60secs, stop waiting will be forced"
im running the latest stock 4.3 stock firmware, can anyone give me any advice ?

You have to downgrade to 4.2 to root then upgrade to 4.3 with root & recovery using NUT'S method

Just one advice. Read tutorial again. Carefully.
No chance for root latest 4.3 straight away, unless you downgrade firmware

Just follow this mate:
and do your research next time, as this has been posted too many times.

Thanks for your replies and help, and you've got another sub shem

[ROOT] Rooting Toolkit for Xperia 2011 ICS [FW:.562]{LOCKED & UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS}
[ info ]
FOR WINDOWS ONLY
THIS WILL WORK ON BOTH LOCKED AND UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS
ok guys so i was directed to this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24847709&postcount=18
where the user rasgula has posted a rooting toolkit...
it was slightly difficult to use for some users so i have modified it to make it fully automated with least user interaction also as a bonus it will install busybox too...
for those who dont know this is the well known old "andorid emulator" hack/trick... its surprising that Sony left those permissions on /data partitions... Dan rosenberg has posted lots of research material regarding this kind of hack for other android devices...
Credits for this go to the person who found that this old trik/hack works on Sony's Xperia 2011 ICS firmware!
anyways the rooting toolkit is in the downloads section below
[ requirements ]
stock ICS firmware 4.1.A.0.562 for your device
ADB drivers installed (if u are not sure, then install this)
the attached package
[ READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY! ]
This script will:
root ur device using "andorid emulator" trick
install Busybox (1.18.4)
install SU files (ICS specific)
do some checks for free space, tmp directory (will remove Google Maps if required)
Before u begin:
make sure u have installed adb drivers for ur device
enable "USB DEBUGGING" - from (Menu\Settings\Developer Options\Development)
enable "UNKNOWN SOURCES" - from (Menu\Settings\Security)
[OPTIONAL] increase screen timeout to 10 minutes
connect USB cable to PHONE and then connect to PC
skip "PC Companion Software" prompt on device
[ WARNING ]
make sure that no other adb server is running in background (e.g.: Flashtool, PCC, SEUS) and disable any antivirus
[ how to install? ]
make sure that you are on stock ICS firmware 4.1.A.0.562
download the file posted below and save it on c:\
extract ALL the files in the zip
now just double click on "runme.bat"
sit back read the on screen instructions
the device will reboot a couple of times
when the script finishes it will say "ALL DONE"
enjoy!
[ downloads ]
DooMLoRD_v1_Xperia-2011-ICS-ROOT-emu-busybox-su.zip (MIRROR)
MD5HASH: dc7f4a107e7d991572219404a9ca996e
enjoy!
and dont forget to say thanks to the user rasgula who posted it here
ADB drivers
if u dont have ADB drivers for ur device then just download this:
FlashTool-Drivers
MD5HASH: 7f5ce9a24c0f2b947fe58f4cd00ec17f
this driver installer is for windows only and is bundled along with FlashTool in the (Flashtool\drivers\ folder)... i am seperatly posting this here incase someone needs it..
A HUGE THANKS to my friend Androxyde, who created this amazing driver installer package
just double click the installer and follow on-screen instructions
I will test this method in about 30 mins im w8ing for the battery of mine arc s to be charged a bit its on 20% >.<

OK, problem solved:
Phone must to be connected in MSC mode, not in MTP. After flashing ICS rom, you have to change it under Xperia menu.
Now I'm rooted.

[Q] XPERIA SP C5303 Still stuck on 12.0.A.1.211

I bought a unbranded XPERIA SP two months ago and I am still stuck on Android 4.1.2 and the phone has the build number 12.0.A.1.211
Using the OTA and desktop update I keep on getting that my phone is up to date.
I looked up the customization number with *#*#7378423#*#* > 'Service info' > 'Software info' > 'Customization Version') and it is 1273-0043_R2A
Using XperiaUpdateChecker.exe and Google I cannot find anything about the customization number.
Based on advice from some users I rootded the phone and changed the Customization Version and still did not get the update.
How do I upgrade to the latest Android 4.3 version?

Thank you. This was helpful. I am now using the latest firmware and Android 4.3.
Unfortunatly I made a backup using Sony PC Companion and it does no longer allow me to restore all my files. So I have lost everything except pictures and the things Google saves, like contacts.!
For anyone reading this and want to update. Please do not use Sony PCC as a backup tool! Find some other way.

I had exactly the same problem. I used this guide to retrieve my data from the PCC backup:

The procedure is quite tedious, because you have to basically extract one app at a time from the backup. But it works.

[Q] Root Xperia-Z C6603 4.4.4 [Locked Bootloader]

Hello there, iam finally on 4.4.4 and i want to root the phone now, and so far iam quite aware of the process, atleast i think that iam, but check it for
yourself:
1) Getting lastest Flashtool from here: http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php ( 0.9.18.2)
Btw. i dont get this : "Since Xperia Z, sony added a new set of files I called bootbundle. Those files can be bundled from 0.9.13 and can be flashed from 0.9.13 only."
What do i really need to flash kernel .233 andn reflashing the .283 afterwards? 0.9.13 or the latest one? dont really get that one, and wouldn't like to hardbrick my C6603 neather...
Do i need the seperate "Flashtool-Driver"-Package or is that included in normal Flashtool-Package?
2) Getting rather the the "Kernel only" or a Stock-FTF .233 and uncheck everything except the Kernel.
3) Getting "Easy-Root" and enabling USB-Debugging on the Z, running Easy-Root and connecting the Z to the PC when Easy-Root says so...
Waiting... Reboot and Checking root-access via root-checker.
4) Getting stock-ftf or Kernel-only for .283, reflashing it.
5)Installing SuperSu, and be happy(?)
Further Questions:
6) Do i need an internet-connection when running Easy-Root on the HOST (aka PC)?
7) Could i theoretically remove root-access again after i modified Android to my like? (Removing Bloatware and installing Adwall/Adaware/Xprivacy) or woudn't this work out? E.g. No root, no more root-apps?
Thank you for your time and help!

Hey thank you for the reply but i've read this thread before, but it doesnt really answer the few questions that stayed unanswered to me
Like:
1) Which version of Flashtool do i need? Does it have to be 0.9.13 or can i download and use the latest variant available (see the Quote regarding 0.9.13)
2) Do i need an internet-connection on my PC to run the "Easyroot-Exploit"?
3) After removing the bloatware and installing some stuff that needs root (Adwall,Adaway,Xprivacy) can i remove root again(SuperSu Unroot) without losing the functionality of this previously installed root-apps?
Thats basically all that is still open to me, other than that everything is pretty clear
Thank you!

1. Use the latest version, which is currently 0.9.18.2. I linked to the Flashtool thread in my guide for a reason.
2. I don't believe so. Just use the built in root tool in Flashtool instead if you like.
3. No. You cannot unroot if you want to continue using apps that need root.

I thought once you've granted them (Root Apps) permission they keep them, even if you unroot right after.

[Q] I want to restore to stock completely.

Hi, .
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - EDIT - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I think my only question is:
Is it safe to install the exact same ROM I need (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2685764, the one of TELCEL) through recovery (I think it's the easiest way), while having the bootanimation changed?
Or is it convenient to first change my bootanimation to stock (I saved it) seting the permissions if I'm not wrong to rw --r-r? }
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - EDIT - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I have a problem, my Xperia SP has some problem, the problem prevents me from doing some things, so I want to restore EVERYTHING to STOCK..
First of all, as above, I want to restore to STOCK.
As I changed my bootanimation, and the softkeys, I have a question; If I restore through the 2 ways that I can restore (Recovery and PC Companion), either one will restore everything to stock, including softkeys and bootanimation, please tell me what's the most convenient and safe way to do it.
--- If it's through PC Companion, write on the steps to restore.
--- If it's through recovery mode, tell me how to instal it, and the steps I have to follow.
--- If it's convenient through another way, tell me about it, and the steps to follow. I think Flashtool is very difficult and risky, show me a tutorial on video or something that makes it easier if you recommend me Flashtool
REMEMBER, I WANT TO RESTORE EVERYTHING TO STOCK, INCLUDING BOOT ANIMATION AND SOFTKEYS.
I haven't unlocked my phone nor my bootloader.
And one more question; Either if I choose one of the 2 (or 3) ways I can restore (Remember, I'll choose the most convenient and safer way) if I have installed Xposed Framework, and rooted through TowelRoot, is it convenient to first uninstall them?
You can also tell me the most convenient steps to do before I restore either using the 2 (or 3) ways.
I have:
--- Xperia SP Model C5306
--- Locked Bootloader
--- Locked my phone with TELCEL
--- Rooted through TowelRoot
--- Installed Xposed Framework
--- Changed my bootanimation and softkeys.
REMEMBER, I WANT TO RESTORE EVERYTHING TO STOCK, INCLUDING BOOTANIMATION AND SOFTKEYS.
Sorry if:
--- I had a grammatical mistake, since I am Mexican
--- I repeated the same thing a lot of times, since I don't want any confusion.
Okay, I think I should finish this.
Good BYE, I wait for your answers : :fingers-crossed:

Thanks for your help, but I think Flash tool is very hard and risky.
I would prefer another way.
If you want to revert to stock, factory firmware/settings. Then follow the first part of this post. It is the official method.
Is it safe?

Lollipop Roms for Xperia SP have fixes that you have to perform themselves( till now).
For random reboots switch off adaptive brightness.
And for wifi. open terminan type su
and then setenforce 0. wait for 2-3 mins you will have Wifi. And its recommended to read the whole discussion of a particular ROM to fix bugs.

[Summary] Rooting the Z5

Hi there,
I think we should make a simple thread to sum up everything we know about root, since the main talking thread is long, here are the main informations:
Xperia Z5:
- No locked bootloader root yet
- AndroPlusKernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/development/kernel-andropluskernel-v1-t3246100
- TWRP here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/development/twrp-2-8-7-0-z5-rootable-kernel-t3240032
- CWM booting but not usable: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/development/recovery-clockworkmod-recovery-sony-t3249782
- Unlocked BL dirty rooting available and working as intended: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/development/dirty-root-solution-unlocked-bl-t3233274
- Dumped original firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/general/ftf-files-sony-xperia-z5z5-dual-t3214397
- Xposed works but you need to let it bootloop a few times
Xperia Z5 Compact:
- No locked bootloader root yet
- Zombie Kernel testing release here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/orig-development/kernel-zombie-t3224735
- Unlock bootloader root available (http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/development/dirty-root-solution-unlocked-bl-t3230524)
- Prerooted firmware available for unlocked BL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-...-rooted-32-0-5-32-firmware-one-click-t3231520
- Xposed doesn't work with prerooted firmware
Currently we need to:
- Compile Zombie Kernel for Z5
- Improve TWRP support
- Create prerooted-firmware
- Most obviously and most hardly, find exploit for Locked BL root
Ok I'm not an Xperia pro, just got my first one few days ago, but still a android and linux geek, so if there is mistakes in my post, or update I haven't seen, notify me

It should work together with the Z5C rooting solution:

Huge thanks, But I can't get it working...
I open BL, I fastboot flashed the kernel, then I fastboot booted on the recovery (Which doesn't show a black screen as expected but a real non-fully-working twrp for me) and I tried to install Supersu but I write an error then...
EDIT: Kinda glitchy to do, but works.
If anyone has Xposed working, please make a tutorial
Okay so this is my first Xperia device and my second android device (used to have a Nexus 5 so rooting was simple). Can anyone ELI5 the root situation?
I understand that the TA partition contains DRM keys to make X-Reality etc work and that unlocking the bootloader will wipe this TA partition and the features will stop working. My main confusion comes from - if other lollipop devices have rooting methods for locked bootloaders, why don't these methods work on the Z5? Sorry if this is extremely obvious and I'm an idiot.
Most android devices have either already unlocked BL or you have to. For example, Nexus 5 needed to unlock the BL, as well as the OnePlus One, but those devices don't contain DRM so you don't loose anything when unlocking

Worked in second attempt. First time reboot into recovery. New fastboot boot booted into black screen.
In following sequence it was necessary to add destination file name,
D:\DOWNLOADS\Sony\Xperia\Z5\Fastboot>adb push SuperSU-v2.51.zip /data/media/0/
failed to copy 'SuperSU-v2.51.zip' to '/data/media/0/': Is a directory
D:\DOWNLOADS\Sony\Xperia\Z5\Fastboot>adb push SuperSU-v2.51.zip /data/media/0/SuperSU-v2.51.zip

I did not had to :/
You guys work fast!
Unsure whether to root myself yet,
Kind of wouldn't mind being able to connect a ps3 pad instead of
Ps4 using the sixaxis app
I'm still confused here. I don't see clear instructions for root process, probably because this is my first Xperia device. Neither do I know if using this modded stock kernel and doing this adb thing few posts back will break the DRM thingy and camera features or not.

There is nothing clear enough for beginner yet. Sooner or later there will be a TWRP fully working and it will be easy.
Try the dirty method, but don't do things that you are not sure that will work. Ask us if needed
I don't want to lose features because of unlocked bootloader. I guess I'm going to survive without root til there's TWRP and pretty much flash n go root
You will maybe never be able to root without loosing feature. Xperia devices work like this for ages..
The only way you could would be that we find a flaw in Android, which could either arrive soon, or never...

Ages means..? I know that the Z1 is not so fresh anymore but we were able to root 4.2/4.4.4/5.1 without losing anything with locked BL. (I know nothing except following tutorials)
Sent from my E6653
Yes because there were security holes in android. For now we havent found anything yet in this version

Google "Verified Boot Android" .. there is almost 100% probability that locked bootloader root will never be achieved, because of this security feature. Verified Boot was introduced in KitKat, but almost nobody used it in so strict mode implementation... Until now, no single firmware using Verified Boot was ever rooted without either custom kernel (must unlock bootloader) or leaked engineering bootloader (try ask Sony engineers for it).
