[Q] CM11 roms mobile network problem - alternatives - LG Optimus 4X HD

Guys, I've been using CM11 nightlies since they started in early january.
I really love those roms, they're so light, simple and performant, and they offer me the chance to have the latest android (4.4.2) in my phone almost without bugs.
But I have the terrible problem with mobile network failure, I'm not sure how to call it (RIL, baseband, ...).
Sometimes the phone just loses network signal without any reason and without me knowing it. Then I have to enable and then disable airplane mode to regain signal. Other times that doesn't work, and a reboot is necessary.
Also, sometimes the signal automatically changes from 2G to 3G, even though I always set the option to "2G only".
I have tried Flying_Bears tutorial to change RIL, but the problem remained.
I use this phone daily, for private and work related issues, and I can't afford to lose any calls. I don't want to go back to stock , stock roms are so laggy and slow...
Are there any other solutions to this problem? And the other available kitkat roms, also have this problem?

How did you miss the "complete loss of signal" post at bottom of the page (which was probably higheeer up when you posted)..
Only solution for now is patience

i have the same problem since early CM 4.2.2 versions I tried all custom ROM, and I had using @Flying_Bear tutorial I flashed 29/01/2014 official nightly with magic rom X3RIL.smali file, and for today I didn't get any lost of signal, with Original X3RIL.smali from CM, i got lost signal every hour and i have to reboot the phone

I've been updating CM almost daily, and the problem persists in all of them.
I used CM10.1.3 stable and CM10.2 nightly before and it was the same thing.
What "magic rom" is that you mentioned?

sorry, my mistake, is MagicMod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2626312
you can update CM daily, but until you see any change in the RIL you won't notice any change on network signal behavior
at least yesterday when i started to test MagicMod X3RIL.smaly, I didn't lost signal in all day, and i'm without wifi all day, I did never reboot, today i'll continue testing

Bad news, today the issue appears again I did have to reboot my phone to get signal again, this is very annoying

When you said logcat, is the log at the moment of signal lost or I have to record until the fail appears?

Same problem for me with any rom and CM RIL or Kholk RIL ......:crying:

including many cm based roms on version 10.2 I never had such connection problem in last months, perhaps ever.
Then few days ago I switched to mokee ROM nightly CM11 based.
Still no problem with ril or connections.
Yesterday switched to Vanir ROM CM11 based and such issue started for me first time.
Mokee ROM was much slower than vanir, but didn't had the issue.
I never changed the baseband. Still 20a
Does someone has the issue with a CM11 based ROM and latest baseband v20d ?

i don't know if something related with CM programming is the problem, magic mod also has modified cm ril

but i don't know what magicmod commit does,
i going to download v20d, and flash CM11 and see what happens, why you ask for it?

did you try @Flying_Bear tutorial but using magicmod's X3RIL.smali instead EPRJ X3.smali?

That first commit is really weird, that method doesn't even exist in the sources. The proper one is still 'clearRequestList', without extra 's'.
The second commit fixes setting call forward status. LG uses a different code for that option and this adjusts AOSP code to work with that.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/ref-mako-modem-collection-t2087227
Don't know if this is related to RIL.
And I think that could be problems for certain netproviders and if there is a proxy involved.

I had the problem in CM11 nightlies with both CM's and iodak's kernels.
Last night I downgraded to stable CM10.1.3 with iodak's v9.9 kernel and haven't had any failure til now (at least none that I noticed).

Would be nice with a basebandswitcher.

here is some logs as @iodak request some post ago

Well flashed latest and got baseband L6260 dropping sometimes...
Edit: Flashed Paranoid android with kholk's ril ( thanks for a lovely ROM, dcos) after flashing I got L6260 and lots of drops, after 3 reebots I'm got v20b with maybe 2 other drops before it settle and got stable.

have the same "positive effect" with latest pure vanir. but it still not working as stable and fast like with cm10.2 and iodak9.5 before or with mokee (unfortunately mokee was very laggy for me)
hope Adam77Root and/or iodak can do something about the ril on cm11 base-usage.

of course I did a full wipe.
CM9 rc3 seems to be stable although wifi connection seems to be a bit weak.
Will flash again CM9rc4 these days to exclude the flashing was maybe improper.

I had the same problem.
However, Doomsday provided a modified and updated kernel some days ago. I've been using that one for a while and I don't remember having many problems since. This is the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37952778&postcount=3555 Hope it helps!
Also, MIsterLemons has just released an updated kernel based on arco's sources which you can find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38059967&postcount=3575, I haven't tested that one (I rather like doomsday's additions) but his kernel might just fix your issues as well without diverging from arco's builds.
EDIT: it appears I had been lucky. I've just had 2 random shutdowns in 5 minutes using Doomsday's kernel...

CyanogenMod 10.1 Experimental Builds [p1c cdma]

Q&A isn't the ideal place, but I'm not yet able to post in the dev forum, so...
I've been using the cm10.1 experimental build (p1c) posted by cdesai for the last week or so.
It's very smooth but about once a day the Sleep of Death (I think) strikes.
It never happens when I'm using the tab. A full reset brings it back, but if I don't catch it quickly it will very rapidly drain my battery and turn the tab into a small space heater. Aggravating.
Anyone else have the issue? Any ideas?
Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk 2
set your brightness to 20% and always turn-off wifi when its not in use ....its works for me....played my tab for 30 minutes and my tablet consumed only 15% of the battery
SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH
*i also turn off mobile data......when i dont need to use the internet....

I always get encryption failed when installing alroger builds - I guess you are not running CDMA (p1c) ?
If you are using a p1c then you are lucky to have alroger working.
cdesai builds work great on p1c but usb tether doesn't seem to work on any CM10.x build yet which is annoying
Re: CyanogenMod 10.1 Experimental Builds
Yup.
I tried alroger's p1c and had the encryption problem. Back to cdesai's build for now.

Yeah alroger's newest builds are broken on p1c but if you go back to his first p1c release it actually works okay http://goo.gl/QBsmn
Actually I came back to the tab tonight and it was constantly rebooting in a loop so I may go back to cdesai too.
The one I am really waiting for is AOKP 4.2.2 for p1c, apparently his build machine is broken but hopefully he will post it soon.
But I cannot do usb tether or otg in any 4.1.x or 4.2.x build yet which is frustrating.
CM9.1 is very stable but missing all the 10.1 niceties.
You should put "p1c cmda" in the thread title here so we can have a 10.1 "club" for p1c folks.
I am running alrogers latest builds without any problem on my p1. Fast reliable and without any problems
I noticed fewer problems of unattended sleep or reboot after I flushed Dalvik and partition caches.
But the device still drains battery faster than the lastest CM10 nightlies (screenshots included) did, mostly because of the radio (30% - veille GSM) and while inactive (21% - tablette inactive).
Do you experience the same? Do you know where it could come from? (since I'm not able to post to dev section yet, too).
Re: CyanogenMod 10.1 Experimental Builds
If you have unknown baseband also, then the cause has been widely known. Broken modem.
Download JPZ modem zip from the development forum, unzip it and paste modem.bin to /radio to replace the one there.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
alroger's newest build from 20130328 now has working usb tether and works on my cdma (p1c)
but it's missing an adb toggle, cannot find it for the life of me
aha! found it - in CM10 you have to go to settings -> about tabet -> build number -> tap 7 times (to enable dev mode)
So several days after reflashing cdesai's experimental build I'm happy to report only one SoD compared to one or two previously.
With a bootlooping recovery, I used Heimdall to re-stock (mostly, I used a CWM kernal). I then reflashed with the same proceedure as before, wiping cache/dalvic, flashed gapps and I'm good to go.
Aside from the USB tether and BT issues (maybe someday...), my only problem now is that the screen orientation is sometimes unresponsive. Even the battery life is good, better than I had on CM 9.
I've not had any radio problems, at least none that Better Battery Stats could show me. The modem is the likely culprit.
Good suggestion on the title change p1c needs more love! :highfive:
Of course now with _ck_'s news that alroger has USB tether working, I'm tempted to try it again. Just can't leave well enough alone.
Just came back to my tablet to wake it up and the screen shows "encryption unsuccessful" wtf
Maybe alrodger build is not quite ready.
Spent an hour getting everything right again but not messing around this time, did both Titanium backup and clockwork backup.

Anyone tried CM 10.2 (Android 4.3) yet?

So it looks like Cyanogenmod 10.2 was released early this morning as a nightly. It's based on Android 4.3, which was released for the Nexus devices a few weeks ago I think.
I've been pretty happy with the nightly version of 10.1 I've had on my phone for a couple of weeks now, but I think I might backup my phone and see whether the latest version is worth keeping.
Anyone tried it already and have any comments?
Edit: Tried it, can't use it yet. Keyboard problems, freezing. Oh well.
Been running for about 4 hours at this point, all apps restored.
Had one blue screen reboot on screen wake.
First impression is that it is very smooth. Focal force closes so can't try that.
Camera works but is not stable.
Definitely a beta but off to a good start for the first 10.2. But I can't live with random reboots so back to 10.1-M3 for now.
10.2 has different vold configs
In the 10.1.2 nightlies I was able to manually edit /syste/etc/vold.fstab to swap internal and external sd-card.
This has changed under JB 4.3 and CM 10.2.x. Details are provided here:
http://source.android.com/devices/tech/storage/index.html
[ UPDATE ] Root also works differntly in JB 4.3, so that needs to be sorted as well.

I never restore apps when testing these cause it can cause problems. Did you use Titanium to restore the apps?
No. Just letting the restore function do it from the market.
I installed the nightlies of 8-16-13 and so far (no jinx) hasn't gave me any problems...ofcourse instagram video n pics don't work but other then that its good..so 10.2 cm is based on 4.3? I didn't see it in the tmo cm page...can u share a link if possible?

Yes, it is 4.3.
The test is to see if you can run for several days with no unexpected restarts. If you are able to do that , then be sure and post and tell others about it because that has been the problem for many months now.
All CyanogenMod downloads are always available at http://get.cm
Just scroll down to quincytmo on the left, then choose nightly on top left.
Cool...found it...now there's a newer nightly for 10.1 can I just flash the zip without restarting anythin? Thnx...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T879 using xda premium
If you are running a 10.1 you can just run your cm updater and chosen the new 10.1 nightly.
If you go from 10.1 to 10.2, you should do a typical new ROM procedure. A backup, then factory reset, then flash the new ROM, then the 2013-8-13 gapps, then wipe dalvik and cache, then finally reboot.
I put the boot from the quincytmo 10.2 into the Pacman 4.3 alpha zip. Also using PA 4.3 gapps. Will let you know how it goes.
Been using it for almost 3days. Works great and smooth. At first, youtube seems to crash always, gps doesn't work and i can't download and even update my apps in playstore. (what i did is that reinstall youtube, and sign out my google acct. and then sign in it again to fix playstore and dunno how GPS was fixed . Wiping cache & dalvic cache and rebooting ma phone helped. And now everything's going and works so smooth! N i love it.
Btw focal doesn't work at all. Dunno how to fix it. Always crashes.
Other than that.. Still the best )

Honestly, all I'm doing is swapping files around with winrar. There has to be a compatible boot image though. Unfortunately, without a T-Mobile official JellyBean update, I don't think we can use ATT touchwiz JB roms. A shame as I installed Padawan JB on my friend's i717 and it was killer.
Really though, there are already enough 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 roms to keep me occupied for the time being. I've sort of shyed away from the 4.2 roms as of late and have been just playing with the very stable 4.1 setups as I don't want my phone rebooting on me while I'm at a party or want to have my camera instantly available.
Well to know how to swap files id be lost! I used to have a quincyatt and yeah padawan was really good but 4g speeds on tmobile network were horrible...yeah there are lots of roms but the more we get the more excited we get...

What radio are you using with Padawan? I've just been using UVLG3 modem and it's been good enough for streaming youtube.

Some of you may read the ATT Note forum. Over there the member ~SoulTaker~ has been compiling Cyanogenmod 10.2 on his own for those users. Because Cyanogenmod has not been creating 10.2 nightlies for the Note.
I have a compile and upload routine setup to produce UNOFFICIAL 10.2 nightlies for the Tmobile note if you want to try them. all are working OK so far, they are the same as what we would be getting from the Cyanogenmod build servers if they were building nightlies for us. All the standard warnings apply.
Here is the link to my google drive folder with the files. Click on the file you want, you will get an error because it can't preview, then look for the download arrow on the bottom right of the screen, click that.
Changelog is the regular 10.2 changelog (when it is up) and look between the date of the last file and the newest. http://10.2.cmxlog.com/?device=quincytmo
NOTE** I am just generating the zip file from Cyanogenmods github, not creating anything. So can't help you if you want a feature or fix or something.

Scratch that, I just saw you said T-Mobile. So I'm assuming it's the D415, correct? If that's the case, explain to me exactly how you installed the ROM. Because I have 2 D415's here(mine and a buddy's), that I tested the ROM on prior to uploading it, and didn't have any mobile network issues. Let me know, I'll keep checking back!

Hmm, sounds like you installed it correctly. Which version of TWRP are you using? I'm on 2.8.5.0, and when I wipe data/cache/dalvik then install the ROM, I have no issues. I just had the time to sit down, and do a clean flash on both of the D415's I have in my possession, and they are both working fine. I'm trying to recreate the issue you are experiencing, but everything is working on my end

jesus flash stock 4.4 kdz and then this rom...its all over this forum
I have tried to install the ROM twice. Both times I get some sort of keyboard malfunction and it won't pop up. I wonder if it could be the gapps I'm using. I like the absolute minimum gapps possible, so which one would work best?
I am using the latest TWRP. I have the latest CM 11 nightly and am on an LG d415.
Edit:
Never mind! Changed the gapps and it works great so far. Just have to see how the battery holds up now!
Great job so far!

Yea, you have to make sure you use the correct gapps package for each android version. For instance, 5.0 and 5.1 use different gapps packages, even though they are both lollipop. Glad you got it working though, hope you enjoy the ROM!

OK...this truly is a great working ROM but it is just rapidly eating my battery. I fully charged it and sat and watched as it fell 1 % every 3 to 4 min where as with cm 11 can listen to 8 hours of spotify and it drops a measly 20%. I even turned off all of the unnecessary things and went into privacy guard and denied the usual culprits (though I noticed some of them wouldn't let me like location and a few others). I did notice the processor jumping clear up to the highest speed and back down to the lowest quite a bit. Maybe its running too hot too much? I really don't know what I should be looking for in that area. At any rate I've switched back to CM 11 for now and everything is working fine so its not my battery...I will try it again as you develope it. Other than the battery problem I'm having its really awesome!

Battery life is pretty bad on all 5.0+ roms for us. Dont know why but it needs fixing.
On cm11 i charged my phone every 4-5days now every day or two...so its really sad
Not for me, my battery life on LP is far better than it was on KK
Wow, 1% drop every 3 min? I'm personally getting great battery life on this ROM. I can easily hit almost 6 hours of screen on time before I need to recharge (which to me is great, considering my nexus 4 struggled to reach 4.5 hours of screen on time) I'm not sure on that one, I'll see if anyone else has horrible battery drain

Too early to judge but for me battery life is better than on custom KK ROMs (and worse than on KK/Lollipop stocks)
Ok I'm gonna try the #3 version next, but what is a "clean" flash. I usually just do a factory reset and cache/dalvik. Is it something more than that? Maybe I'm doing it wrong?

Nope, that's perfect! Most people like to dirty flash ROMs, meaning they just flash the ROM on top of their existing one, without wiping cache/data/dalvik. You are doing it just right though

Wifi keeps turning off
Flashed the latest build (beta 3), and seems pretty smooth. Video recording is working on my D415 . No auto focus for camera though and my wifi keeps disconnecting (will not turn back on). I have to reboot, then it works for a while, then turns off again.

My video recorder works as well, but it doesn't save the videos anywhere. So it's practically useless for the time being. Not sure about your WiFi issue. I have the D415 as well, and my WiFi has been running strong for over 6 hours now

Random reboots
I have random reboots 2-3 times per day on D410. Both beta 2 and beta 3.
I use cwm cm12 from Quarx, may be I should try TWRP 2.8.5.0?

Pac-Rom Kitkat for i9300(12-Oct-16)

This is a compile done for a friend, as he found lp/mm roms to be unbearably laggy, especially when using social media/chatting apps. Just thought it could help some folks hoping to run an updated kitkat in their old(but great) galaxy s3. After some usage, his words were: this phone is part of my hand again .
This is a straight compile from cm11 sources for i9300, with the pac-rom source code(the best kitkat custom rom imo). Battery life, performance and stability are truly superb. Sources merged on 12-Oct-16, therefore having the latest stagefright and other security patches built-in. Wifi-fix for i9300 is also integrated. The rom is working fine with the latest boeffla-kernel(2.14) released for cm11, and thats the tested and recommended configuration. Some useless apps removed(like voicedialer, whisperpush, moviestudio, pacconsole and some more i can not remember) and i also removed pac console from the rom configuration settings framework as well. Have fun using it.

All credits go to cyanogenmod and pac-rom team for both their amazing roms and sources for i9300 and many other phones we use and love!
Thanks you,!!

Not having the phone means no screeshots . You can try it and put some up for everyone to see. You wont be disappointed.
What about gapps?? We have to dwnload it?
This is a clean rom, no gapps, xposed, or other mods included. use opengapps.
Really appreciate your efforts here... Great work on this rom... everything working fine... If possible can you put some time looking into Archidroid 4.4.4... IMO it was the best rom our s3 could ever have.... It has some wakeblock issues that might get resolved if we update the sources. Again thanks for your effort. S3 community owes you!

This problem persist with the latest snapshot of cm 11 also... nly install themes that you like... doesnt affect the functionality of the rom having themes installed.
Thanks for this great ROM. The only issue I have is I cant get 3G to work. Any suggestions? Would be much appreciated...
Its probably an APN problem, try inputting your carrier settings manually. 3g works fine on my friends' phone.
The rom is incredible but I need to restart my system with Wifi turned on so it can connect. If it disconnects (for any reason, disabling wifi, getting out of range etc), it only flashes "Connecting..." when connecting to the router again, but it doesn't connect
Try the fix in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/wifi-fix-cm11-i9300-t2910872 . I already included the needed file in the rom, and it works fine here, but it couldnt hurt to try. Could it also be your router causing this?

Will try! And it isn't the router, it worked with cm12.1 (no issues whatsoever) and cm13 (the issue on cm13 was random disconnects but it was rom related too).
Hey!
Switched to this rom recently and being very impressed, it having all the features one could ever want yet stable and battery friendly. Definitely better than MM roms on S3.
However do we need an kitkat bootloader or do we even have one available? Still on the official 4.3 bootloader and just wondering if could get more stability if upgrading it to kitkat.
Kitkat bootloaders dont exist for the i9300, since it never officially got kitkat. Last semi-stock kitkat rom for the i9300 were ported roms from n7100 and the korean variant of gs3, and they did not include a bootloader, because it would hard-brick the phone. Having installed 4.3 before this was the best you could do. Having this rom installed in 2 phones(my friend's and my sister's) i definitely recommend installing boeffla's last cm11 kernel, no stability, battery, or features problems with it. Actually, apart from the rebooting on uninstalling themes bug, no other bug has been reported to me from them, no even ones in the thread.
