CyanogenMod 10.1 Experimental Builds [p1c cdma] - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Q&A isn't the ideal place, but I'm not yet able to post in the dev forum, so...
I've been using the cm10.1 experimental build (p1c) posted by cdesai for the last week or so.
It's very smooth but about once a day the Sleep of Death (I think) strikes.
It never happens when I'm using the tab. A full reset brings it back, but if I don't catch it quickly it will very rapidly drain my battery and turn the tab into a small space heater. Aggravating.
Anyone else have the issue? Any ideas?

set your brightness to 20% and always turn-off wifi when its not in use ....its works for me....played my tab for 30 minutes and my tablet consumed only 15% of the battery
SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH
*i also turn off mobile data......when i dont need to use the internet....

I always get encryption failed when installing alroger builds - I guess you are not running CDMA (p1c) ?
If you are using a p1c then you are lucky to have alroger working.
cdesai builds work great on p1c but usb tether doesn't seem to work on any CM10.x build yet which is annoying

Re: CyanogenMod 10.1 Experimental Builds
Yup.
I tried alroger's p1c and had the encryption problem. Back to cdesai's build for now.

Yeah alroger's newest builds are broken on p1c but if you go back to his first p1c release it actually works okay http://goo.gl/QBsmn
Actually I came back to the tab tonight and it was constantly rebooting in a loop so I may go back to cdesai too.
The one I am really waiting for is AOKP 4.2.2 for p1c, apparently his build machine is broken but hopefully he will post it soon.
But I cannot do usb tether or otg in any 4.1.x or 4.2.x build yet which is frustrating.
CM9.1 is very stable but missing all the 10.1 niceties.
You should put "p1c cmda" in the thread title here so we can have a 10.1 "club" for p1c folks.

I am running alrogers latest builds without any problem on my p1. Fast reliable and without any problems

I noticed fewer problems of unattended sleep or reboot after I flushed Dalvik and partition caches.
But the device still drains battery faster than the lastest CM10 nightlies (screenshots included) did, mostly because of the radio (30% - veille GSM) and while inactive (21% - tablette inactive).
Do you experience the same? Do you know where it could come from? (since I'm not able to post to dev section yet, too).

Re: CyanogenMod 10.1 Experimental Builds
If you have unknown baseband also, then the cause has been widely known. Broken modem.
Download JPZ modem zip from the development forum, unzip it and paste modem.bin to /radio to replace the one there.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

alroger's newest build from 20130328 now has working usb tether and works on my cdma (p1c)
but it's missing an adb toggle, cannot find it for the life of me
aha! found it - in CM10 you have to go to settings -> about tabet -> build number -> tap 7 times (to enable dev mode)

So several days after reflashing cdesai's experimental build I'm happy to report only one SoD compared to one or two previously.
With a bootlooping recovery, I used Heimdall to re-stock (mostly, I used a CWM kernal). I then reflashed with the same proceedure as before, wiping cache/dalvic, flashed gapps and I'm good to go.
Aside from the USB tether and BT issues (maybe someday...), my only problem now is that the screen orientation is sometimes unresponsive. Even the battery life is good, better than I had on CM 9.
I've not had any radio problems, at least none that Better Battery Stats could show me. The modem is the likely culprit.
Good suggestion on the title change p1c needs more love! :highfive:

Of course now with _ck_'s news that alroger has USB tether working, I'm tempted to try it again. Just can't leave well enough alone.

Just came back to my tablet to wake it up and the screen shows "encryption unsuccessful" wtf
Maybe alrodger build is not quite ready.
Spent an hour getting everything right again but not messing around this time, did both Titanium backup and clockwork backup.

--->>>>CM7 Nightly's Build's Discussion & Thoughts<<<---

Please use this thread for all your discussion about the Nightly builds for CM7 for the Atrix. It is important to note that Nightly Builds are not for most Users
Things to know about Nightly Builds:
Not Stable releases
Will have bugs / issues
Not intended to be used as main everyday ROM
Are not Fully Supported like Stable Releases
Should not be used by people that are not Masters of ADB
You Should be comfortable enough to recover from soft bricks On your OWN
90% chance you will be wipping your data (factory reset) at some point and time
DO NOT REPORT ISSUES ON NIGHTLIES ON THE BUG TRACKERFAQ FOR ATRIX NIGHTLY'sNightly builds can be found here:

Also would like to add that BACKUPS are your friend if you are not comfortable with t0dbld's sugestions. Thanks for starting this thread and for the teams dedication.
Is or are the Dev team also creating different tweaks/builds seperate from Cyanogenmod or will the teams work just be incorporated into the nightly builds?
Excellent! Allrighty, lets kick off this party with a bang. First off, thanks to all the Devs and others who made this a reality. Nightly builds = awesome. After installing this with the latest version of Gapps, everything is working beautifully. Very excited to see where this is going. Faux123's stopgap kernels WILL work with this build so far and I have tested them. Only thing I've noticed so far is that, for the first time for some reason, I am unable to buy an app from Market and bill it to my AT&T account. Option seems to have disappeared. I've heard of others discuss this, and I'm assuming that the change language to English fix will work with this, but haven't tried it yet. Umm...ring lock screen seems to be working with less lag than before. Other than that, have nothing else to report at this time. Thanks again all, and happy flashing!

Hi, May i know this rom can support the Fingerprint and the webtop?
what the different with another CM7 (non nightly ver) , quite blur here.
thanks.
You might find it being offered by someone willing to make a workaround to get it to work. Being that "Android" didn't put the fingerprint scanner in the phone and no other phone has one, you'll have to wait for someone to actually make a script that can be added to CM7.

I'm already seeing the Nightlies on ROM Manager. In fact, just downloaded Nightly 3 and I'm installing as we speak.
I'm seeing things about "FM Radio" on the nightly change log. Does the atrix have FM Radio capabilities?

I've been running full #2 today, full wipe. Only problem I've had is battery life. I could get 24+ hours with the previous betas...I'll be lucky to get 10 at this rate. Nothing in the stats stands out. Guess I'll wipe and install #3 tonight and see how it goes.
Anyone getting Market FC all the time as soon as they try to download an application? Should I reboot my phone and see if that fixes the problem?

I got that when I updated to the stopgap version. Just use Titanium Backup to backup your market apk and then uninstall it. Restore it and use the "App Only" option and do not restore data. After its done simply open Market and add your account.
You're good to go after that.
I wasn't sure if I'd run into any challenges with the latest nightly, but nope! Running smooth as butter. Using faux's latest 1.45ghz OC kernel too. Didn't wipe from scratch, just cleared Dalvik cache and hoped for the best lol (and did a backup of course)

WIFI Hotspot drops out on AOKP M6

I flashed AOKP M6 from AOKP B36. M6 seemed to work great and I was very happy until I tried WIFI hotspot. When you toggle it on it says "WIFI Hotspot active" then drops out after 2-3 seconds. I have rewiped and reflashed but it is still the same. I am just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this or if someone can confirm for me that it works for them on M6. If it works for others than I will reflash from scratch. This doesn't seem like the best place to ask this question since it is specific to AOKP M6 but I am new and by no means an expert so I was directed here. I have searched for an answer to this and I do see that some experienced this in earlier AOKP builds. Loading semaphore (I don't even know yet what that is) seemed to work for some but not all. For now I have recovered back to B36. I need WIFI Hotspot to work.

Yeah, I had the same experience with AOKP 38 and 40, so I switched to Nostalgia, which was at 6 at the time, and it worked great. Then I upgraded to Nostalgia 6.2 and now the Hotspot problem is back (see my other post in this forum), so 6.2 must have included something from upstream that broke it.
And you mentioned the Semaphore kernel, but N 6.2 uses Semaphore and still has this problem. Unless I get other good suggestions in my other thread, I'm thinking to go back to 6.0 until the Jelly Bean releases start to come out, and then hope that they've resolved the issue.
Hi guys. I can confirm that devil kernel fixes the wifi tether issue (that exact one...) i had it on aokp and cm9 (and others i think). Not to mention devil is blazing fast and full of great features.

I was gun shy to try flashing the kernel separately, since last time I did that while trying to fix this same problem for AOKP, I wound up in a boot loop. But your reassurance encouraged me, and I flashed Devil from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642460 and my Hotspot is working again!
Awesome - thanks!

[Q] Most Stable ROM

Hi everyone,
I recently installed android on my friend's Touch Pad. Which ROM do you recommend as the most stable/usable ROM? (While being new and hopefully rather current as - like Android 4.1 or 4.2). My friend is definitely not familiar with flashing or anything like that, but she knows how to use android. As I will be moving out of the state at the end of this week, I want to leave her with a good ROM that will be nice and stable and easy for her to use. What do you all suggest? Thanks!
Tough one just have to flash them all and test I would go for cm10 night lies because they'll constantly update it and all you have to do is go into settings and update it.

Thanks, I'm trying a couple. I had a 4.2.2 mashup of CM, AOKP, and PA. It was a bit buggy, and probably too confusing for my friend. She does really like the PIE controls though so I'm trying to get a stable one with those. If not I'll just go for the CM10 nightlies probably. Thank you sir!
for me, the most stable roms are the standard CM9 nightlies.
they benchmark higher than any of the 4.2.2 builds, and has working bluetooth and no UI issues as noted on the CM10 and CM10.1 builds.
every few weeks I backup my HP touchpad and install some of the latest roms and always come back to CM9. it just works better, and best of all, it has a better UI (while the tablet UI mod helps with CM10 and 10.1, it does not fix all of the issues. and for CM10.1 there is no 120dpi so you are stuck with everything being oversized for the screen
while with cm9 all you need is the CWM flashable 120dpi patch which still works with the latest nightly builds and takes care of any market place issues.
Overall for everyday use, CM9 is still the way to go.
I attached the 120dpi patch that I use. It only works on CM9

If you are on CM10 and the 120dpi is too small, to undo it flash the 160dpi file
the CWM dpi patches are the only ones that have worked for me, I have tried android 4.1 and 4.2 and the only recommendations for adjusting the dpi is using apps from the market place and all of the recommended ones for me have not worked, most causes the rom to not boot fully.
The main thing holding me back from going to anything higher than CM9, is the lack of stable bluetooth support, the new android 4.1+ UI that is just a more screen space wasting version of the cellphone UI (not tablet optimized at all), and the issue with no 120DPI mod working with it.
Have been using CM9 for a long time with no complaints other than battery life. I think there may be some kernels that are better, but I like when the battery runs out and my kids have to put it down. A timer of sorts. I have not found a combination that can compare to WebOS for battery life. But, Android has all the latest stuff now for the kids, so, Android it is. I still use WebOS, though, when I can.
CM10.1 nightlies by milaq have been very stable for me. I experienced random crashing of the default browser in CM9 nightlies but none in CM10.1.
Obviously the missing Bluetooth in CM10.1 may be an issue for some but I haven't really used BT for anything.

Any stable ROM?

I am currently running ancient cm10.1 20130604 nightly for last several months. I tried to upgrade a few times to 4.3 but had stability issues and went back to this ROM, which is more stable than others though power loss in sleep is still a concern along with BT.
Any recommendation on a more stable ROM? The Kitkat build looks juicy but my kid uses this tablet mainly and he gets upset if the battery dies too quickly or the system crashes
Thanks for any comments.
By the way, any way to see the partition sizes? I think I increased the system partition to 512MB before installing 4.3 but don't remember now.
Found Partition in Play store. Worked like a charm. I only have 393MB in /system and /data 3527MB. I guess going back to 10.1 restored the partition table as well.
I'd say just grab the latest version of 10.1 (2014-01-13). There's not too much of an advantage for 10.2 or 11. The cm11 3.0 kernel version is also close, but things like mic and camera are still broken.

I'd say flash it and if you have any problems, do a factory reset. No use getting rid of all your data if it's not harming anything, but then again there might be some odd thing that breaks when upgrading.
As for battery, I personally found it better on CM10.1 than CM9.
Thanks

HI
I'm using CM11 Milaq and its very stable. There's still some things that aren't working. Like camera,Netflix version 3.x..etc. Buts its a very stable build. The best build I ever had installed that was really stable and ever thing worked, was evervolv CM10.2. This ROM was really good and stable I don't remember ever having any problems with it at all.

[Q] Maclaw 10.2 1GHz and wifi

I was running the lastest build of maclaw's 10.2 from feb 25th but my wifi stopped picking up any signal and when it tries to the cpu is maxed out to 1Ghz.
I've tried the 1ghz bug fixes of turning off wifi and rebooting, changing the scheduler and the governor, They stopped the high cpu usage but i still can't use wifi.
I've tried going back to old versions of the ROM but the problem was still there even after i tried 1Ghz bug fixes again.
when i leave the phone to rest it gets hot (not very hot just hot) and the battery is going down fast! all of which i assume is due to high cpu usage.
Can you help? please?
I would have posted in maclaws thead for the ROM but i don't have enough posts
All help welcome!

The app sets it so the wifi is never on after reboot so the cpu usage is fine untill i try turn on the wifi

Thats the problem
The app sets it so the wifi is never on after reboot so the cpu usage is fine untill i try turn on the wifi
Is that clear? I'm terrible at explaining things sorry.

BUT REMEMBER: afaik all custom ROMs (and i tested them all for our device :angel have this 1 GHz bug.
But this is no problem: just turn off wifi manually before restarting the device (takes almost a second ...)

Alright so I've changed to many different roms now and all of them have had this problem.
I've tried maclaws cm10.1, carbon and then cm 11, Cm 11 worked for a few days but the problem returned
I then tried carbon by kevinjoa and marclaws cm 10.2 again but still no wifi
I've just restored it back to out of the factory samsung rom and recovery, my wifi is back! hope it lasts now!
Just to be clear the problem is the wifi can't find any signal at all! and sometimes it cant even turn on. When the phone is trying to do either of those it drives the cpu to max out.
If you have this problem or know what it is or have any ideas how to fix it let me know!
Ok so the problem came back on the stock rom so i'm thinking it's a hardware problem but i need to know specifics like is it the wifi ic chip or what?
I flashed the latest cm10.2 and did a full wipe
I then got a log from the syslog app and i've attached it below, i cant understand anything in it so can you help with that? is there any information in the log as to was the problem is?
right
I noticed that too most custom rom have issue with wifi or gps
but it will fix with time I think

Thats what i thought i might be for a while but i had the problem in the stock samsung rom too.
ok so i don't think it's the ic as the bluetooth is still working fine,
i've also found there are two scenarios:
1.
The wifi can't turn on at all it constantly says turning wifi on....
2.
The wifi takes a few minutes to come on and then it can't pick up any signal at all.
In both of these scenarios the cpu is maxed out constantly too
Also could a mod please change the title of this thread to something like wifi problems please
I'm still trying to fix this guys, I could really use some help.
I've been doing more testing and firstly if I remove the sim and sd cards and boot back up SOMETIMES the wifi will come on with no problems,
I've also found that if i turn on the bluetooth and then reboot the phone the wifi SOMETIMES comes on with no problems
If i combine removing the cards and turning on the bluetooth the wifi ALWAYS works.
When i say the wifi works with no problems i mean NO problems, I can reboot with the cards again and with the bluetooth off and it still works but only for a short time ( 1 or 2 days)
I think the bluetooth is boosting the wifi signal or something and I've idea how/why removing the cards works.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Just posting a small update about 1GHz bug in Mac's 10.2 rom. The very latest release (20140621) is awesome and very good. However, I get the 1GHz bug a lot more than with previous releases. I am also using the GT-I8190XXANR6_modem baseband from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2526831 which is currently the latest one. There should be a new release from Mac shortly, with new samsung kernel... Maybe that does something?
Does anyone else have different results with this rom, but other baseband?
