Google Maps Start Navigation in the Wrong Place? - Moto X Q&A

Hi All--
I'm hoping someone can help!
I just arrived in Jerusalem, and whenever I go to Google Maps for directions, and tell it to start from 'my location', it calculates it starting in Tel Aviv (about an hour away)! It gets a fix on where I am, so that's not the problem.
It doesn't seem to matter where I tell it I want to go, it starts from the same spot in Tel Aviv (a place I don't believe I have been).
I tried wiping my phone, and it doesn't make a difference.
Anyone have a suggestion? SO WEIRD
(btw, if I tell it to start from whatever address I am currently at, rather than 'my location', it works fine!)

Try downloading GPS Status and Tools from Play and use it to reset your AGPS data.

no go (and the GPS seems to lock on fine...it just starts the navigation from a different location)

[Q] Google Maps alternative, I despise advertisements...

So today I used Google Maps to search for a location. I did not appreciate the ads at the bottom of the search results.
Is there a way to disable the ads? Shall I just reinstall Sprint Navigation(telenav is good) and use that instead?
Thank you thank you
edit: should have noted that i do use the turn by turn nav. so an online, gps enabled option is what id like. ill check out the option you noted, t12icky0
i had the same issue..i just didnt like Google maps. went through many different programs but eventaully ended up getting an APP called " IGO"...its an offline as well as online map directions service. you would just need to download the maps for you state(or any state).
ITS GREAT because you dont need an internet connection as it can run the maps and such offline unless you wanna use GPS(or anything else).
Where do you download iGo I don't see it in the market??

How to I get 'My location' status to display/update?

I am unable to get the 'my location' status section of the weather widget to actually name my location e.g. Wembley / Westminster / Boston ... Reflecting wherever I am.
I am sure that previous weather apps were able to do this. It would automatically update according to one's location. In settings, all the location options have been selected inc. GPS. The only way I can get a place name to display right now, is if I manually select a city. :-\
I am sûre that i have overlooked something very simple to allow this function to work. Any ideas would be great. Thank you

What I done was tick all the boxes in settings then remove the widget and put it back on it worked for me me

Is it possible to remove the widget on Blinkfeed screen too ? Because I had the problem on this widget. (new phone should be coming in tomorrow or the day after)

Thanks for the suggestion. Only issue is, the weather app is integrated into blinkfeed, so it cannot be temporarily removed or deleted. Not sure how to get this to work...
EDIT - After de-selecting and selecting location services, went for a reboot of system. Then, prompt box came up on screen, asking whether I agreed or disagreed for Google to collect anonymous location information. I selected Agree and now location is displayed! Solved

The actual cause is in settings, power, fast boot. Turn this off and reboot. Make sure you have location services on as well.

Ah...you're onto something right there. First time I used my phone, I had this unchecked and everything was working just fine.
Then I did check this after a reset...and it wasnt working anymore. So I will make sure it's unchecked.
Thanks !

Thanks, worked for me like a charm.

Thx! The described method also helps if the phone has trouble to find a location indoor without GPS. I couldnt use Google Maps at home cause it would never find a GPS connection.
Now it just uses the WLAN and mobile connection to get the location. Great!

[Q] Question about Google now on 4.1.2

I'm running Android 4.1.2 on my Galaxy Note. How come I do not have Google now cards? My Google now seems to work but I am seem to get a simple page result and going over the settings, I do not see any options for Google cards, etc. Is this because I'm running a lower version of android?
You need to go to settings and enable search history.

Thats it? It's in the "Google settings" right? I just did - there seems to be no change.

I think Nokiamodeln91 means the setting of Google account in the global whole Settings.
For me, Google Now is too slow when using my 3G network, only possible wth wifi.

Thanks for clearing that up. Just changed some of the global settings of my Google account. Should the effect be instant or would it take several days?

The time I get your question you already have the answer, do you ?
Anyway for me it should take about few minutes. How about your situation ?
The cards will be appear when you're moving, the Wheater, the traking from your house to your work, Places close to you, etc. Just go to Google settings and enable Google Now (if not), then touch it and enable every Card. Working fine for me, (XXLT5 April 2)

Google Now cards?

I'm a little stumped on this. Been using Now Launcher for a while on all my devices.
Just got a Moto X 2014, and the Now Launcher is installed, but 2 things:
1. I can't swipe left to see my cards
2. when I go into the settings, and try to select the "Show Cards" option, it is greyed out and says "network error. check your network connection and try again"
Network is fine & I get the same thing on wifi or cellular.
I just finished installing all my apps... really don't want to wipe the device already.
Clearing cache & all data on "Google App"
Installed a 2nd launcher...then "cleared default" to make sure it was actually running the Now luancher
Very odd.... Any help would be much appreciated.
Resolution
Apps > google settings ? search & now > now cards > delete card preferences
I'm having the exact same issue on a Moto X 2014 that I received today. I tried factory resetting, removing and re-adding google account, replacing google app and google play services with the factory versions but still the same.
I've tried everything I can think of now. Still no luck. I have no idea if its a problem with the Moto X or if its the Google app or what. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this?
moto x 2014
Motorola doesn't have an answer for this yet (hours on phone and chat today) wiped data, factory reset, no luck. Mine worked out of the box, but just stopped this morning. All I can say is don't bother with the factory reset. Problem seems to lie with Google? But I don't know anything. Frustrating.
i am seeing this also, but I'm using a nexus 9 i am thinking its only affecting new device enrollments as Google Now still functions on my Nexus 6.
K, so, (first timer), what's our next move? Who do we contact at this point? Also, isn't it kind of strange that everything was working properly for a day before Google Now just seized? Why would everything work fine at first? It randomly cut out and at first was just giving me the pop up error when I attempted to activate the cards/NOW, but it wasn't until after the factory reset that the entire Show Cards option greyed itself out. Very distinct stages. And peculiar that it was functioning first.
Thoughts?
Facing the same issue since today morning. I think we should open a thread regarding the same on motorola device forum.

I just managed to sort this my signing in with another account, going back to the first one, then deleting the new account, for what it's worth.

[Q] Can't find "about" in settings

I am sure I am missing the obvious. Came from a Samsung phone. I'm trying to find the location of "Settings>about" to see my software version. I touch the little wheel "settings". But from there there is no "about" to touch.
TIA
The very last option at the bottom??
That's where I thought it would be... It's not there I simply cannot find the "about" in settings.

Nope straight out of the box.

Data management
Google Fit
Location
Play Games
Search & Now

Then nothing after that.
