I can get into the reboot menu where u choose recovery ab fast boot and flash is there anyway I can flash the stockroom onto my phone using my external sd card?
Click to collapse
open device manager (start>control panel>Hardware and sound)
find the Droid 3 or Unknown device, and in its properties' Driver tab click Update driver
select Browse my computer for computer software
select C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motorola Shared\Mobile Drivers\Drivers
if that doesn't help try downloading my copy of win 7 moto drivers
unzip with 7zip or other file compression utility and move to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motorola Shared\Mobile Drivers\Drivers
and you can try uninstalling current installed diver in devices driver tab uninstall option

I tried all that and when I click update drivers it says there is no software available....but on my reboot menu there are a couple options that let my computer recognize the device in rsd lite but unfortunately I don't know how to use them ... there is a mkz flash an sbf flash and a fastboot flash can I do anything with those?
you downloaded my drivers file, unzipped and moved
uninstalled device and driver in device manager
disconnected d3, reconnected
selected install driver, browse for file, and navigated to new driver folder
if that doesn't work, i have no other suggestions

Got that installed and it still didn't reconize it
make sure you have usb in mass storage mode the 1st time so it will install drivers, and you can try reboot of pc after driver install
Also if you have ADB setup on your computer you can open the command prompt, type "adb devices" and see if it shows up.

Get the latest 5.5 moto-drivers here... USB and PC Charging Drivers - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA
Make sure your device is in USB debugging mode, attach it to your PC.
Then use this to root.. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/63864500/motofail_windows.zip (for windows pc only)
Extract the entire zip file, and execute “run.bat"
That worked, thank you so much

Hi all
I had to wipe my phone in custom recovery.
I wanted to flash it with RSD lite, as a lot of time, and i can't get it detected by my computer
I search to install drivers (wtf, they were on the computer..?!) and failed.
I gone to the configuration panel in my computer and uninstalled adb drivers
The i got "Fastboot smi S" drivers trying to install, failed too
I uninstalled moto drivers and reinstalled with the file Motorola_End_User_Driver_Installation_5.9.0_64bit.msi
rebooted
same problem...
i dont know how to make this fastboot mode detected again ....
Thx for help!
I had the same problem 2month ago with windows 8.
Instal sdk tools if you don't do that before or if it's always not working use an other computer because it's just a driver bug.

Just had the same kind of problem on Window 7 after playing with fastboot mode and various tools, this is how I solved it:
My XT890 in fastboot mode was recognized as "Unkown device"
=> I uninstalled the driver for this device.
My XT890 was thenidentified as "fastboot smi s" and would not install whatever I did
=> uninstalled "Motorola Device Manager" and "Motorola Mobile Drivers Installation 6.3.0"
=> reinstalled Motorola Device Manager (get it there : motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/88481 , sorry new users cant post links)
then I plugged back my phone in fastboot mode and Windows correctly installed the drivers
dont have the phone anymore, but thx for sharing your experience, might be useful if anybody meets this problem again in the future.
have a nice week.
I have motorola device manager installed, have unlocked the bootloader, have rooted the phone, running stock 4.1.1 now, but nothing shows up when I use the command 'fastboot devices'. Any other fastboot command just says "waiting for device" for ever. But, the command 'adb devices' brings up the device serial number when loaded into stock OS. But once in bootloader, it returns nothing either.
What am I missing?
You are probably missing drivers.

But I have installed the motorola device manager. Doesn't that install drivers? Also, is it possible for adb to work without drivers?
Any idea what could be the solution?
Thanks!

Adb drivers and fast boot drivers are different... Possibily Motorola device manager installs only Adb drivers not the fast boot...

Those should be installed automatically... Open device manager of your PC and check for hardware changes... Then insert the USB with phone on fastboot .. Check if any sound/hardware detected... If detected trouble shoot it... Else contact Mac helpline for this issue

Hi All,
I'm trying to get ADB working. I installed the drivers via Motorola Device Manager. After plugging in my X it installs:
- USB Composite Device
- XT1058
But does not install
- Motorola ADB Interface (no driver found)
Anyone get ADB working / know where I can get that driver?
Thanks,

Latest Motorola device manager? What have you tried specifically
Sent on my Gummy running Lenoto X
Well my Windows 7 is brand new. Just installed, no garbage on it.
- Installed MotorolaDeviceManager_2.4.5 (most updated in Motorola support site)
- Installed Android SDK and updated.
Doesn't work.
- Tried different USB ports, front and back. Red or blue.
- Tried the Motorola Device Manager from the topic you said, the 6.2.
- Tried Disable and Enable again USB Debugging.
- Tried changing driver manually according to some tutorials (ABD Interface driver on Windows Device Manager)
- Unchecked option to verify harmful apps installed by ADB/ADT on Developer Tools.
- Checked Allow unknown sources on Security option.
- Prayed to God for several hours.
As said I rooted my phone (retail). Then I accepted the OTA update 4.4.2. (Yes, stupid me). I manage to get out of bootloop by Wiping Cache, Dalvik, etc. So back to 4.4, still rooted. Since I don't want to lose root, I would like to flash a new recovery.img that will allow the update to go trough.

OK, have you attempted to put your phone in fastboot mode and plug it in , you should see the driver notification pop up. Also you should be using mfastboot not fastboot to install recovery found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2603358

Phone is detected by the PC and adb devices command when on normal system. But when I go to fastboot mode it doesn't recognize anymore by abd. Still the display shows USB Connected and I can hear Windows sounds showing something was indeed connected/disconnected. But ADB is dead.
I was never able to use mfastboot. Simple doesn't work either. Anyway, if ADB is at least able to see the device, then I can try it again.

Oh and I just tried one more thing: Install RSD Lite. RSD Lite is able to see the device while on fastboot. ADB command still NO.

Why I can't flash recovery.img ? I want to flash the stock recovery. Isn't this abd commands the same as RSD Lite program do?
