Hello all,
This may be a noob question but what is the best way to refresh my moto x's current location via wifi? I leave my home but when I get to work it takes the phone quite a while to pick up my location there. I've searched the phone and haven't really found an option for this yet. I don't have data and use wi-fi at both locations.

Hi all,
I don't get to spend much time with my device or surfing the net for handy little apps so I am forced to ask this probably simple/stupid question to you people in the know.
Is there a way to configure my Vodafone UK v1615 to dynamically swap between "My Work" and "My ISP" network settings so that when I leave my wireless network the device automatically knows to dial up a 3G/HSDPA connection and use that if I open something like IE?
Or should I be configuring this somewhere else, like in the applications themselves (i.e. If WiFi unavailable use 3G)?
If anyone knows of a nice (idiot proof) guide to setting up the connections on a WM6 device that'd do to save you having to type out your own long winded instructions.
Thanks in advance for all the help offered.

Hi Macca,
I've not found a way to do this yet on mine, it is something I think WM6 lacks compared to Symbian. I still find it pretty simple just to hit the Fn key and then OK on the QWERTY keyboard as this switches WiFi on and off.
Something I found useful on the subject of data is the counter software you'll find on the TomTom CD that came with the phone. It gives you daily data usage, really handy for keeping check!
Have a nice evening,

Hi Ed,
thanks for the tip on turning the WiFi on and off, that'll save some time!
However, if I turn WiFi off and continue trying to surf, instead of my device making a 3G data connection it just gives me a "Cannot Connect" error, check your connection settings blah blah.
I'm sure this means I've just got my device configured incorrectly because I cant believe such simple functionality isn't available... (what am I say? This is MS we're talking about!)
Can anyone shed some light on how much configuration should be to allow my phone to switch from WiFi to 3G with out reconfiguration?
Many thanks

I seem to be having the opposite of this problem. My device seems to keep connecting to a 3G network by itself whilst it is already connected to a Wi-fi network. it is getting on my nerves now. I am looking for a way to stop the 3g from coming on at all, or at least ask me before connecting to 3g.
I dont get much data in my monthly plan from vodafone and dont want it getting chewed up whilst i am sitting at home with a wi-fi connection.
Bump.
Can anyone help me with this connection confusion?
Many thanks

Hi,
I would also like to be able to connect to my preferred network everytime I turn on the wireless rather than having to configure it everytime. Additionally, even when I am connected and because the signal is poor, it keeps disconnecting, which requires manual connection all the time. In my laptop, although the signal is poor, it never disconnects, it just grinds it out, and keeps working. Or, my expectations are very high for this phone. Can anyone help?
Thanks from a noob.
Hello,
I am relatively new to android phones in general so I apologize in advance if this is a common question (though a quick search didn't find anything). My question is this: Many times when I try to download something using the stock android browser (I have also tried dolphin browser with similar effect) the download fails, especially if it is a particularly large file (even more so when I try to do something else while its downloading). Is there any way to fix this or am I doing something wrong when it comes to downloading files? On top of that I have also noticed that sometimes when I try to download a file (lets say a .apk) it will say it downloaded the file but will have really only downloaded 10kbs of data or so, Obviously I get errors when trying to open them. In regard to the small file sizes, I know that the problem doesn't lie with the sites im trying to download from, because I have downloaded the exact same files with my computer with no issue.
Also one other quick question about how the Captivate (and android in general?) handles wifi and 3g. I've noticed that whenever I turn WiFi on and connect to a network the captivate refuses to send data through it's 3g connection. Normally this would be a good thing but there are certain apps that require a 3g connection. It also becomes a problem when I want my Captivate connected to my home network since the network isn't connected to the internet (stupid cisco NAC agent, if any of you have any Ideas on how to get that working through my router i'm all ears.). Simply put, I want my Captivate to be able to connect to the network to view files but to still be able to use the internet through it's 3g connection, is that possible?
Thank you in Advance,
Felipe Breyer Jesus
I dont have issues downloading files. But i dont leave the download screen until its done. Could be your issue. As far as wifi goes it shuts off 3g. Have you tried starting wifi. Once connected turn on airplane mode. Then shut off airplane mode? Might start 3g again?
Um.. some websites will not allow you to download using your phone due to some kind of crazy restriction that the web server has. I remember Design Gears had to tweak a web setting to allow people to download ROMs directly to their phones.
And.. I'm not an expert but.. by turning on wifi - 3g service will get stopped. You would probably have to do some serious hacking to get both to run at the same time... and that is IF you can even run both services at once.
You were saying you were having router issues as well... but do you have internet connectivity with your computer? If so you can always just download the files from your computer...?
Wifi at my university is not really stable, especially when I'm between buildings. That is of course the time that I would most commonly use to quickly reply to a text. Now, I'd have to disable my wifi and enable it again afterwards.
My old Samsung device had an option to automatically fall back to mobile data when the wifi connection is bad. Is there a similar option with the Z3C, or another way to do it?
Thanks!
Why does Location turn on whenever I connect to a Wifi network? I never had this kind of behaviour before. How to stop this? I read online that disabling Locate my phone would do the trick, but it doesn't.
Also, since a few weeks, I always get the Location consent dialog, and even if I agree, it always asks me. I want to always agree and stop being asked every single time. Even Xposed modules don't do anything on my rooted S7E. Do you guys have any hint?
Yeah you can't turn them off now.
I figured the only way the data collection won't hurt me is if i don't have any accounts synced to my phone.
They tied down the Geo location for most radio connections the phone has.
Irritating. You can toggle by using the phone gps only but my experience, my map apps tend to not work unless I use the high setting.
Most phones has AGPS units where it's always assisted by other connections.
And individual gps units are exactly that: gps (garmins... Etc)
Good luck
Hi all, been a member here for years. I just recently acquired a note 9 on AT&T. Question i have is in the settings area is there a way to set the phone to turn on wifi and turn off Bluetooth when I'm home and visa versa when I leave the house? I came over from a LG g7 and that phone had that option. I've searched everywhere on Google and here and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I could be calling it the wrong thing. Any input would be appreciated thanks.
It wasn't an app. It was an option in the settings on the LG. Called smart location or something.
I just set it up through Bixby to do it. Way easier when the phone does it itself via location.
