Hello all,
This may be a noob question but what is the best way to refresh my moto x's current location via wifi? I leave my home but when I get to work it takes the phone quite a while to pick up my location there. I've searched the phone and haven't really found an option for this yet. I don't have data and use wi-fi at both locations.
So I am on t-mobile, and I also have one of the routers provided to me by t-mobile (I believe it's an Asus) , and I have noticed recently that my wifi calling has been sucking big time. It cuts in and out and says I need to connect to a wifi network, when I am connected. It's like it doesn't notice that there is a wifi connection. Anyone have suggestions as to what might help?
I would ask in the tmobile sub forum, they may have better input there. I'm still trying to graft this feature into the Korean Note 8 firmware so can't offer much help sorry!
It's been a while since I've used xda, and I didn't know there was a sub forum now. Thanks for the heads up.
Coming from a Gear S2, I had the option of an automatic "cellular on" when my watch was disconnected from Bluetooth.
I can't find any sort of option like that on my new to me LG Sport.
I am trying to comfortably make it though the day with my AOD on, and it seems having cellular on all day makes it tougher.
That being said, when I go for a jog without my phone, I don't want to have to fumble with the watch to enable cellular.
Is there a program that can do that for me? I am looking into AutoWear... but I am starting from scratch on that... and maybe there is a setting or app that already does this (although I could not find it)
Thanks
Constant notifications "Wi-Fi Calling preferences updated to optimize network exp."
So, aside from the common touchscreen and proximity sensor issues, I'm getting this notification constantly that is driving me crazy. If I swipe it away it comes back many times per day. It can't be disabled. I've seen reports of it, but it's not widespread. I've not had this issue on any of my other phones, Samsung or otherwise. The only way to get rid of it is to turn off Wi-Fi Calling. I suppose it could possibly be an issue with the wireless in my home. I use an eero router system. But like I said, it works with all my other devices no problem. Anyone else get this?
what carrier?
so notification pops up only when the wifi-calling is on?
try this:
download samsung members app from galaxy store, click get help (bottom), send report. once you submit a ticket, samsung will be able to tell you what is causing the issue.
Yeah I hate that it does this

I'm on T-Mobile. And almost every instance I could find of this issue on a Samsung device (via google search), the user was also using T-Mobile. And yes, it only happens when WIFI calling is enabled.

Are you also on T-Mobile?
T-Mobile here, and also having the same issue. I just muted/Silenced all the notifications, but they still pop up in the bar.
I have seen it a couple of times at home (also on T-Mobile), but this past weekend, when using a car hotspot (AT&T), it kept showing up over and over again.
S20 FE Unlocked purchased from Samsung directly. Just transferred from Verizon to T-Mobile. At my home, cellular signal is so weak that the phone is basically unusable for calls. Wi-Fi calling is a necessity so I set the Wi-Fi Calling network preference to "Wi-Fi preferred". It doesn't take long for these notifications to show up when the phone changes back to "Cellular preferred" mode on its own. My work around is to turn on Airplane Mode, wait for it to engage, then re-enable Wi-Fi. This works to keep Wi-Fi calling active and stops the constant notifications. I just have to remember to de-select Airplane Mode when I leave the house. A big PITA.
When I was on Verizon the phone would remain in whatever network preference I selected without issue.
i have a workaround for this using tasker, the catch being that you need to have the android 11 (one ui 3.0) update. if you're still on android 10, the custom setting this watches for doesn't exist yet...it was only introduced in the android 11 update.
Unlocked Galaxy S20 WiFi Calling Issues
Use tasker (or another automation app) to stop your phone from randomly changing the Unlocked Galaxy S20 WiFi Calling preferences!

Hi,
I'm seriously considering getting a good refurbished Pixel 5, but I would like to know if it's possible to set wi-fi calling preferences on 3UK.
To explain, I live in an area with very spotty cellular coverage so WiFi calling is a must have, but unless I can set the phone to prefer WiFi calling over cellular calling, I have to put my phone into airplane mode in my house because there is just enough cellular signal strength to prevent the phone from automatically using wi-fi for calls. Failure to use airplane mode results in many dropped calls because the signal isn't strong enough to support the call.
Any assistance gratefully received.
Thanks

So it's possible to set the preferences to use Wi-fi calling whenever there's a wi-fi connection, even if there's a weak cellular signal?
This is on the UK 3 network?
Thanks

It'll give you the option whether there's WiFi or not. It's either on or off.
Yes, 3uk
Thanks, but I don't think I explained my question very well.
What I'm wondering is, when you turn wi-fi calling on, is there another setting to prefer calling via wi-fi, or calling via cellular?
Cheers for your help.

I know this may not be what you're looking for but it may help..
I am on Pixel 5 Android 12L stock ROM
When turning WIFI Calling on, you get this menu option.
I'm imagining if have WIFI Calling options, then the menus would be the same, being the same phone/firmware.
But I obviously can't confirm.
Thanks!
That's exactly what I was looking for.
Which network are you on?

Just a shot in the dark, but changing your default language to US English might work. Here in Canada I had to do that to get "Hold for Me" working

Thanks for the suggestion but I think the availability of the wi-fi calling preferences options are based on the mobile network.
I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy S20FE because it has Bixby Routines, which lets me disable the cellular radios when the phone connects to my home WiFi network. Obviously, this isn't as elegant as allowing me to set a wi-fi calling preference.
The point is that this is a dual SIM phone - I've noticed that it offers wi-fi calling preferences for my O2 UK SIM but not for my 3UK SIM.
I don't think I'm going to get any luck with this unless I change network.
Thanks to all for your assistance.

Very interesting.
Now I don't use it, I should start looking into it, but I just don't have any uses off the top of my head, like what I foresee could work to your advantage.
Instead of Bixby, why not give tasker a try? It should be able to allow you to do what Bixby does and probably more.
You should def. be able to set up a Tasker "Routine" that allow you to disable the cellular radio when you connect to WIFI network, and maybe even a Tasker for setting the WIFI calling preference?
I wish you the best of luck with everything!

I actually tried Tasker first (I've used it many times over the years) but it isn't able to toggle Airplane mode without having to either root the phone or grant specific permissions via ADB (each time the phone is rebooted).
In case you are wondering, I have configured Airplane mode to leave WiFi and Bluetooth untouched, so it actually only toggles the cellular radio on and off.
Since Bixby Routines are "baked in" on Galaxy devices, it has no restrictions on setting Airplane mode on/off. Obviously, this solution is only available on Galaxy devices, which is why I'm using this S20FE 5G as my daily driver at the moment.
With any other devices, I have to remember to turn airplane mode on when I'm at home to force wi-fi calling. The problem is that I often forget to turn airplane mode off again when I'm out and about.
Thanks again to everyone for your help and suggestions.

I'm not familiar with Bixby but it sounds awesome! Great feature.
