[Solved] Lightweight Rom for LG2x ? - LG Optimus 2x

Hi everyone !
There's quite some interesting roms for our LG Optimus 2x. I've been using stock, then DjangoManouche (for quite some time), then MIUI v5 (using it right now). MIUI seemed a good idea at the time, but honestly it's quite inusable, very heavy. So I'm looking for a nice and lightweight rom, which could be used with my LG specs, here :
JB preferred, kowalski kernel actually, new bootloader with 30b baseband.
Problem is, there are so much roms I have no idea where I should start ...
So, could you please share what you think i should give a try ?
Thank you !

I don't know about the baseband, but you should check mostly up to date roms, like tonyps' the ROM, cm10.1 t-build, pa by the same tony or cm10.1 by pengus. You could also try slim roms by djnoxd. If i remember correctly, all of them are pretty much lightweight, comes with kowalski kernel. I like the slim rom color inversion, but other roms are nice too. You should try them and see which one appeals you most. Good luck!

Check my signature. Very nice ROM I am sure you will like

hmm ... 2 answers already, and 2 suggesting slim* roms. I think that's the way to go then
Seems there are multiple versions ? Anyway, thank you both of you for your advices, I will try it and come back to close this topic with result and feedback.
Again, thank you !

Ahh, I see a fellow "let's find the best" rom-flasher. I am more or less exactly like you. I even installed the latest MIUI just yesterday. But after having this device for some time, I found my sweet spot. Yes, MIUI is heavy(I even disabled some built in apps, but still wasn't good enough), ICS doesn't quite cut it, 2.3 is way too old for me to enjoy, and 4.4 is not perfect. I found my sweet spot to be TonyP's Clean CM10.2. I use it with the Android 4.4 kitkat theme and Nova Launcher. That combined with Greenify does the job quite beautifully. As for SlimBean, I didn't test it, but I see a lot of users are enjoying it. Search. That's my advice. I used every available rom on here, just to find my preference. For now, I'm waiting for CM11 and the 3.1 kernel to be fully operable, and then I'll probably switch to CM11. All in all, you've got everything you need.

Thanks for your advice NoDze. Topic is a bit more specialized, as I'm searching for the lightweight rom, not the best. I honestly can't try them all but I guess I can't really avoid it at some point. So, thanks for sharing your setup, that's another one to considerate :good:

By definition, a lightweight rom should be one with only basic stuff implemented, like phone, messaging and stuff, and furthermore, it would be nice that such one is as AOSP as possible. Tony's The ROM, for example, is in my opinion bloated with features, and that's why I avoid it. I, myself, remove all applications that I consider unusable fro the zip, prior to flashing. SlimRom, as much as the name might imply, is in my opinion full of additional features for which I find no need. It is a great rom, nevertheless, but everyone has its own preference. You can even try the good old "Look Ma" CM10 by Pengus. That ROM has only basic stuff, clean CM and I often hear here on the forums that by flashing KK M1, it's a beast. I mean, asking which ROM is the best is really as if you're asking what superhero is the best in a comicbook store. As for lightweight: OptiX(ICS), LookMa(CM10),SlimBean(CM10.1, CM10.2). I know you knew all this, but I just wanted to provide further info.

'Seems quite a good definition to me . That's what i was searching for. SlimBean answered the call. For now, it rocks It was able to withstand everything I've thrown at it, plus the installation was smooth, fast, and easy. Indeed, there's a lot of features i'm not going to use, but it doesn't seem to affect speed (so far). Everything is working (i mean Camera, Photo, Wifi etc) and LG2x is very well responding.
Curiously, the only things a bit out were native android launchers : i've tried the one that comes with slimbean and the 4.4 launcher, and i experienced some problems with both of them rapidly (some slowdown, crashes). Apex launcher fixed that, but i'm not sure why android launchers were so slow.
Then, thank you again for your answers and your infos. Acknowledged, received, and saved

[Q] what is better MIUI -OR- Simply Honey?

(since my last thread has been deleted, I will ask again
EDIT: AND Cyanogen Mod 7 ROM DOES IT HAS BETTER CAPABILITIES??
I wanna know which rom has better capabilities simply honey or miui
(Capabilities=
which rom is faster(miui or SH) or they have +- the same speed?
which rom is stabler? or they are the same..
which rom has more and better features or they have the same?
this things..)
thanks for helping
NOTE- I have already read both SH's and MIUI's threads
NOTE- if you have nothing helpul to say to my question and you just wanna say negetive comments- do NOT NOT NOT answer!! its not the place for you
simple honey
its perfect
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
i would go to simply honey it's simpler and really good. im not on simply honey but looking at the specs of the rom it seems really good. however front camera doesnt work as it says on the ROM and you need to reflash another kernel!
another thing is they have took out apps that came in with SGS from the stock ROM some of it i find very useful. i think the speed of both ROM is quite the same ^_^.
thanks !! waiting for more people---and which rom offers more features? SH or miui?
(and I have SH 3.2 dont wanna update it to3.5 because there are problems with 3.5)
There are no problems at all with 3.5....you're getting crazy man....you're paranoic!
Try and judge!!!
Sent from my SGS with Simply 3.5 Revolution ROM
simone201--i've already tried..
there might be problems!! now I have simply honey 3.2 so I dont want to upgrade due to all the problems in 3.3 . (and as I said- 3.5might include some problems too)
p.s- why am I getting crazy ? lol? it seems you are..
waiting for more people and help please..
please help me guys.. need more comments
FFS.....
Do your parents still cut the crust off your sandwiches for you.
Just flash the rom and find out for yourself. If you don't like it... Move on to the next.
WOW.. what a noob 10 years old... next time use your parents in order to understand what I've written before posting a new comment!! (sorry for you..)

Please, stop bumping this thread and making new ones!
This is terrible, you cant compare those 2 roms.
And you said you've tested them both, so why not use that one that's better?
if its hard to understand, the word "them" means to simply honey 3.2 and 3.5 !!!
of course I can compare ONLY about the CAPABILITIES
(about how the room feels/looks/ beutiful or not-- all this things of course, I will decide by myself and im NOT asking for that)
NOTE- if you have nothing helpul to say to my question and you just wanna say negetive comments- do NOT NOT NOT answer!! its not the place for you
people please help me.. !
Dude, both are awesome. But you can not compare the two ROMs! Simply Honey is 2.3.3 based and MIUI is 2.3.4 based!
The difference in features are very minor, maybe a little here and there. But basically both are equally good ROMs. Try it out for yourself and see which one you like!
I'm currently running MIUI MCGv3 which is fantastic but it is not quite as complete as the stock custom roms like Juwe's or Simply Honey, two of the biggest let downs being the lack of an FM Radio and choppy MKV playback. But in saying that it is stunning visually and has a lot of cool unique features. I haven't used Simply Honey only Juwe's so this could be a little biased. All in all you'll have to try them out yourself, different rom's for different people and different needs.
vijaykanth--- thanks god that's what I want to know -- "The difference in features are very minor" omg thanks finally someone understands!! well I hope your right..
Shrapnel2--- thanks you very much!
still need more people and comments
**and what about the speed? the speed is preety much the same in both roms or one of them is way more faster?
(and look guys, all about how the rom looks and feels of course I will decide by myself.. im looking for the rom who has better features, and fast rom. so thats what im asking if the features, speed, stable and all this stuff are the same +- in both roms or not)

The main reason I moved to MIUI from Juwe's is that I was getting bored of the same old interface even with changing round png's in the framework and modifying bits and pieces- everything still looked bland to me. Speedwise I think that if you compared the two(Juwe's or Simply Honey on ext4) you would find them to be fairly close, I think lists tend to load faster on MIUI but it has been a while. Stability is fairly good but not 100% of the time, eg before settings Force closed on me, no biggie though as I had apps fc on Samsung GB roms too. Another thing to note is battery isn't the best on MIUI, you'll easily get a day under average use but don't expect three day marathons like some Samsung roms do. So good luck on picking!
each rom is better if the person likes it .I use miui but before that i used simply honey and it was good but i like miui better .It has lots of new features
I installed Simply Honey 3.5 the day it was released, I was previously using Darky's Rom v10 and I was very happy with the change. SH is visually beautiful, I installed Dark Core kernal after installing it to fix the bluetooth issues with CF-Root.
The front camera is still displayed sideways but thats no concern to me since I barely use it anyway. Love the new lockscreens, the market is a bit odd to look at but it doesn't bug me too much (if it does there's plenty of themes out there). After flashing the SGS2 email apk I was very pleased with my phone. It's been a lot more snappier than Darky's and haven't noticed any lag at all..
I'd take Simone's advice and install SH 3.5, you wont be dissapointed =)
Just try both for a full day - you can revert to your previous one anytime with a nandroid backup.
as far as I've understood -after restoring applications, the andorid market and applanet might not recognize them as 'installed applications'. then, I will not be able to update my restored applications
and thanks everyone!!! waiting for more comments..

[Q] What is the best ROM

Hi there people, since we have now some excelents ROM´s, and for people who are divided, just wanted to ask, in terms on 3d performance and battery improvements, what is the best ROM at this moment, since they are all great.
Big Thanks
In my opinion there is no best..
it's all about personal taste..
the best way is to carefully read all the topics, make a back up of your phone en give the ones you like a try..
so far i tryed: CM, Zeus, Marvel, Echelon and Sapphire..
I had problems with CM, the others are all very good roms.
You can just choose one but you can also try every rom for a couple of days and then decide what rom you like the most!
The CM I tried too and had problem too....I´m divided between Marvel...Zeus and Sapphire...The Sapphire is the one that i have now...but in 3d i think is a little poor....for example...the asphalt 6 becomes a little sluggish....
In Marvel....I tried the v4.....and in Zeus...I tried the V4.02b...
The Zeus was the best one that I had...but changed because of SoD´s...and in Marvel the v4 was good...but i think that there was something missing in the ROM...But I would like a ROM with good 3D performance and good battery life....
I think you should try Echelon rom and Zeus v5 Lite to
Sent from my LG-P970 using Tapatalk
Thank you for your advices...I will give them a try.
indeed.. if you want zeus right now you should try v5.03 lite
sapphire is good and fast but the theming is not something i like very much..
i like a rom that looks a bit more like stock.
it's echelon and zeus that i like the most..
Like sayed before thee is NO best Rom.
It all depends on personal needings.
If ur a "gamer" you want a Rom with max performance and oc-options
If u want to save the planet u want a Rom with longest battery-life possible.
So nobody can tell u: Use Rom XYZ and Launcher ZYX and ur done.
Rooting Android Phones and installing custom roms is all about personal needings.
So u have to read the topics to get some informations, and then just try out wich rom + launcher fits best for u.
I also agree to say that each rom has its pros and cons.
The ones I tried on 2.3.4 :
- CM7 nightly : always got some bugs, in particular with audio and bluetooth headset;
- zeus 4.02 : works great, but occasionally got some freeze/screen-of-death ...
- echelon 01 : minimalist and clean ui. Recently installed and find it very fast and stable. I hope it will still be for a while
I did not try other gingerbread roms
i tried:
1.zeus from v2 to v5.03 and it is my daily use rom.there were bugs in early versions and of course sod on some but since Huexxx released the lite versions the rom is great, fast and stable with excellent battery life and many options through zeus script..really love that script.
2.some late cm builds and temasek's last 2 kangs.not for daily use for me
3.ligux:really liked it a lot.hope we get stable cm so ligux becomes stable.bugwise it is like cm..
4.echelon:really liked it since the theme is based on ligux.fast and stable.hope to test it fully themed.hope gabwerkz keeps on updating.
5.sapphire:fast and snappy especially with the new tweaks that can be installed afterwards but i guess i prefer something more minimalistic themewise.
6.marvel v6:this is the only marvel i used(i use it right now) and i really like it.very good for daily use and fast, snappy like zeus for me..i always use golauncher and marvel, zeus are the smoothest with it..personal opinion of course.battery life very good so far.
7.lewaOS:tried it for 3 hours but i had many fcs.it looks nice but very early build.it is fast though.
i also tried TMR (miui themed based on v20b) but for like an hour.
bottomline is that we have a lot of choices so it is difficult to pick one.but the future of black seems bright..
if we get stable cm then the possibilities will be endless..
i am going to try LFD today..
Just try Zues 4.02b and it's nice though I got LGSetupWizard error 2 times and freeze once
I think marvel 6 is also nice hope I can try it
my advice is to try zeus 5 if you want to try zeus..
today i tried Echelon again and this time it is really awesome..
Fast/simple.. Definitely my favorite!
hello.*new member alert*
i started using custom ROM from a week before.
i have tryed all of the rom under the forum.
but i loved the work of this dev named acxyut. both of his rom is very good.i use prada for soemtime and then now i use the saphire.
but i get confused because i see he always call himself as a noob and not a dev.
i use the sapphire for now am i think it is best because i get very good performance and especialy the battery life.i loose no battery in night. not even 1%!!...also he release many theme app for the rom. i feel this rom turned into a full project.
but is he really a noob???if so, how he got so many thanks and how he know so to make a rom??
i am a noob, can i meak a rom also??
He is a cook, and he has some basic skills, I'm a noob too and I've made a rom, you need to learn some things first, basically if you have some basic coding skills you can cook a rom, but only professionals and experienced devs can port and make rom from scratch and fix bugs.
Trolling in the deep
Dude, I'm a noob and a cook.
noob is a person that doesn't know much about code, and a cook is a person that can follow recipes to make roms.
Research what is what, learn and maybe you could cook your own rom
Trolling in the deep
@gumm: read up buddy. read chef central. read the how to's. setup ubuntu. try. but as re4lsk said, dev nd cook are not entirely same.
nd one honest advice: if you like any work of any1, be it a ROM, or an app, whatever, APPRECIATE it instead of DOUBTING the credibility.
and btw, hoe can you "CHEAT" while creating a ROM???....is it an exam paper??
no flames please, but i find the essence of the post of yours @ the prada rom thread of mine somewhat offensive.
there is a nice thread by nooby at the general section. read that up. use the ROMs for a few days and see how p970 is. what the files are. what u need. and i do actually have some basic skills.
if you think i can help you in any way, please drop in a PM

New Rom Suggestion, Coming from GB

Hello XDA,
It's been a while since I've gone through the whole process of finding a good rom. I'm running Gingerbread still, a variant of DarkyRom_3.4.1 currently. Flash works great. Probably going to miss that. But it's getting slow. I need a reinstall.
Plus, cracked my screen. Bezel edges and corners are also torn up. Paid $140 for new screen and replacement rear back/bezel/case http://www.ebay.com/itm/281265794618?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
So, anybody spend time testing ROMs in the last month? What's new, stable, and clean? I've skimmed the rom list, but nothing beats interactive testing. For looks, I want AOSP but can't decide if I want TW with Apex or Nova, or CM 10.1 like SuperNexus. Trying for speed, fluidity, no bloat.
What have people settled on lately? Opinions are all I ask
How horrible is Flash compatibility now? I tried flash on a Nexus 4 on latest (4.4.2?) and it wouldn't play firstrowsports.eu or projectfree.tv so that's kind of a bummer...
Any suggestions would be great! Don't want to spend a full week testing roms and rewiping my phone..I don't have a second to use while I play with my Note, and I'm kinda busy with work lately to wipe my phone over and over.
Another question while I'm at it... Is a nandroid backup taken with my outdated CWM going to restore OK after I upgrade? Thinking I'll be ok.
Thanks :good:
If you are too lazy to test yourself then stay on stock rom.
Why should other members do the work for you and write here - which is simply a best rom thread and so against XDA rules (reading them might help you).
And: many members who cooked or developed roms spent a lot of time doing this and making good threads, tutorials and instructions. So please use these and pay a little respect to them by doing so.

Thanks for taking the time to tell me I'm lazy. I work hard, thank you very much.
Why should other members "do the work for me"? Well, without trying to justify anything, I've answered questions for other people, simply out of the kindness of my being, just because I know the answer. Last time I put in the effort of testing rom after rom, I shared my knowledge. I'm sure there's other people out there like me. I mean, with your methodology, we should all be told to go Google it...which is akin to telling someone to go shove it.
If you've put in the effort of trying roms, and you have the time to leave me a helpful response, and you don't consider it "working for me", I'd appreciate it.
At the moment im on c-rom kitkat its pretty fast and have alot of options. Its not touchwiz . Everyone has their own likings so flash one if you dont like flash another. End of story. I did what you did before asking for best roms and at the end i pick a rom no one mention in the thread in my own phone

I've been using the OmniROM variants lately and found them to be slightly faster than TW-based ones. Right now I'm on Asylum OmniROM Naughties 4.4.2 and it's been pretty stable and zippy so far. Battery life is same as with TW. Not sure about Flash compatibility as I don't use it. As for nandroid backups, I recently read that you need to restore using the same kernel/recovery as you used when you made the backup. Not sure if that's true or not, but something to keep in mind if you're jumping from ROM to ROM.
AryaMod 5.5 is the best rom right now and has Flash support enabled by default. Every JB (or even KITKAT) version can handle Flash if you sideload Flash Player apk and a compatible Browser (Like Firefox). The stock, Samsung browser have Flash support enabled without any hack.

Thanks for your reply, as well as the others. I'll be giving AryaMod a go.
I [and many others] really wish samsung would publish the hardware composer and other needed source for AOSP builds....It seems like I keep loving the AOSP interface more. Paranoid is awesome. AOKP helps little things. CM features are also great. Together, perfect.
For me, Stunner 2 is GUI perfect. Functionality missing though. Of course, need that hardware acceleration. Can't use my Vulkano (Hava). Can't watch Top Gear without transcoding from MKV.
On another "note" (no pun intended lol), does anybody know a 5.3" or larger phone that is 100% AOSP friendly?
Xperia Z-Ized this great rom
I have a meaningful update!
I found a new phone, and it's going to be cheap, and very new because it's about to be released.
Check out the OnePlus One, http://oneplus.net/ $300 / $350 middle of May supposedly.
Hello guys,

[Q] ROM recommendations PLZ?

I have an Atrix HD, rooted, with unlocked JB bootloader, and I've also done the MAXX battery MOD. I haven't had this phone long and it seems to be a bit laggy, and a battery hog on the stock firmware. I am not partial to JB or KK so I am pretty open to suggestions. All I am looking for is SPEED, STABILITY, and BATTERY LIFE, and of course the LEAST amount of bugs possible. TY all in advance! :good:
ROM recommendation posts are a dime a dozen around here, and the answer is always the same: figure it out for yourself by browsing the development forums for your phone, and flash the one that fits what you want.
Thanks

No, not everything is buggy as hell. The majority of them run just fine and are good enough for daily drivers. If you installed one, you'd see for yourself.
I understand that you want a perfect ROM but there isn't one. You've gotta take what minimal bad there is with the good. Even stock ROMs have bugs.
The best advice is to flash a ROM that sounds good and see if you like it. Hell, that's half the fun!
Thanks Dr. Orange

I understand what you are saying, and I have been checking them out, I'm on CM11 now, and have tried Holoblur, and a couple others. I've went through this with literally 13 devices now so I'm not new to this. I was simply asking the community for the best ones that they have used from their experience. I have asked this question on XDA about all of my other devices and normally people respond with just what I said before. Its just a lot easier when I can narrow it down between a handful of ROMs that are DD material.
What has been your favorite so far Doc?
Ah yes! Had to make sure you weren't just asking for the best instead of researching for yourself! I guess I could've been a little more helpful from the beginning...
My most important feature is pie controls, second is tied with customizing options and battery, So right now, carbonROM is perfect for me. I'm running the 8/04 jbbl build and it works great.
I have the MAXX battery mod so battery isn't as important, but I still want it to last all day.
Team Gummy works well too. The only build for our jbbl phone that works is the April build 2.0. It's light and battery life is good too. Also has pie, not as many customizable options.
Those are my KitKat choices, I'm not sure of the 4.3 Roms other than the last time I had a 4.3 PAC ROM installed it worked really well with excellent battery life. 4.3 Roms are arguably the most refined, but development has shifted towards KitKat obv.
That's pretty much all I know.
Awesome!

That my friend is exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much for the input... I will definitely try your recommendations next. I also did the MAXX MOD on mine the other day with the EB40 battery and cutting of the inner frame, but just like you I definitely want it to be able to last all day. Lol, I know there is no perfect ROM, I just didn't wanna be crack flashing for the next couple months with as many nice sounding ROMs there are for this phone. Either way, your info is extremely appreciated, and thanks for the heads up on Gummy. I typically look at a ROM's OP first to look at the features then look through the last couple pages to see if and what issues it may have. It just got frustrating bc MOST posts end with people all talking about their damn RAZR's in the wrong forum lol. So thank you very much Doc.

4.3.1 unified build from 1 Feb 14 works well and has decent battery life with the battery mod, best battery life i have seen so far was on ATT's stock pre-heartbleed fix revision.
Thank you very much as well palm beach. I'm on Gummy 2.0 now (the one that works) that the doc suggested and I love it aside from some random systemui force closes so I think I will try your suggestion next lol.

Just rooted and unlocked this morning, help me figure out a ROM?

I'm looking for functionality, little or no bugs, I am looking to stick as close to stock as possible with the option to customize if I wanted to. I know there are a ton of ROMs and I could spend ages scouring them for the one that might be right for me.

Did you install twrp also? You will need that to flash anything... might want to back up what you currently have before flashing also. If you like the stock feel, you can always wait until xposed comes out of alpha and start your customizing with it too.... lots of good info here if your not familiar with it. As far as UI is concerned you don't necessarily have to flash a custom rom, you always try a few different launchers on for size first.... Nova is pretty popular apex is another.... I am using action 3 right now which I like...
I would suggest clean ROM for a very stock like experience and then install MCR mod pack. This is my setup and I love it.
Cleanrom and sinless. Both stockish and super stable.
Stock. If you're not going to try for yourself, then you shouldn't go sheep.
OP you should really look around the development forums, you can't expect what works for other people to work for you as well. Usually down the line, you'll have a question and you'll want to be searching for the answers, not to ask others for the answer when the answer to your question has already been answered.
Everything in life, you can't just ask for it. Similarly to your decision to purchase what car, what college you want to apply to, etc... all of that you can't just ask someone. That's something for you to determine for yourself. Except the difference here is that all ROMs and kernels are free, be adventurous and try them all out (or at least the ones you found interest into).
My recommendation to this is to look at ROMs based on the following criterias,
- Popularity... how popular is the thread? Why is it popular?
- How frequently does it get updated? Do I like to flash ROM updates daily/weekly?
- Read the last couple of pages (or skim) and see what other users have been saying about the ROM
