I just picked up a Note 3 and wanted to get a Gear watch as well. The problem is I'm with Gophone prepaid and you can't tether with them. Does this mean I'm out of luck and can't tether the Gear to my Note 3?

Thanks, I was mainly curious about internet access. Being on Go phone, with the Gear tethered to my Note 3 will I be able to access the internet on the Gear itself?

I was surprised how much I could turn off without root... A few services were possible too that don't show here.
I think just getting rid of vrzn stuff helped.... Too bad knox is locked up.

I don't or intend to ever use those products....
With it gone "when I was rooted before" I still had full functions to NFC, all wireless, wifi direct etc.... It's only for linking to their proprietary equipment
Must have paid big bucks to have it added as bloatware.

It definitely can! I did research on Google for each and every one of these that I wasn't sure about?. I recommend anyone do the same if they are not comfortable and remember one man's trash is another man's treasure, you have to know what it is otherwise you may get rid of a feature you really want that someone else could care less about.
If you go to the running apps in the application manager you can also turn off some services but I'm not sure how to get some of those back because they don't show up and the "turned off" list.
These aren't actually getting deleted its the same as freezing them if you were rooted and using rom tool manager or titanium.
Your phone acts and responds exactly the same as if they were deleted but they are still there and dormant.
Many of them like "ant" can be downloaded directly from the Play Store.

Some variants do s be sure to check your radio freq. All you have to do is plug in headphones and they work as your antenna. Then you launch the app. It was probably easy for samsung to just toss that on all phones and let the carriers sort it out later.
That's common practice, why if your on a budget it's best to buy the low of a high end company rather than high end if a low end company!
Often parts /software are the same with less features "disabled or not connected" . It's cheaper and higher profit with easier tech support to have less platforms that are truly different.

That's rubbish!
Ant is a wireless communication standard based on the Bluetooth radio hardware. You can connect with several heart-rate-measurement devices used by runners and things like that.

It's amazing the level of "Bloatware" you guys get on American carriers! Wow! Up in Canada it's not nearly as bad and has been getting leaner and leaner over past couple of years.
Heck, a couple carriers up here got practically nothing on it but I think it was a time thing and not getting the firmware n source code in time to customize before launch but nonetheless hasn't been *too* bad here on most phones and carriers for a while..
And more importantly we have practically been providing "unlocked bootloader" phones for ever.. That's a BIG plus as the likes of AT&T and Verizon are locking everything down.

Why do you say never? This is possible for s6 so I don't see why you would say never
That's a good point. The s6 and the note5 seem identical in most ways.

Is there ever gonna be a root for ATT S6 active? These ads are driving me insane!
I'm considering returning the phone if no root is ever going to come back even though I love it.. I still have my LG g3 but at least its rooted and ad free! I've tried to search the internet and haven't really found any concrete word on it.
The word is all over XDA. You're phone has a locked bootloader and can't be rooted. Thank AT&T, not Samsung.
BTW, per the sitcky, questions shouldn't be posted in the General section.
Edit: It looks like a mod has moved it to the correct location.
You might get it, but you probably won't. I'm on an at&t note 4 and....yeah.
you can't root it, but package disabler pro will do what you need to disable any bloatware. The only downside (beside that bogus fact that you can't get root on your own device, which is pissing me off as I write this), is you can't tether with an unlimited plan, whereas if you could root you could.
Yeah, that and you can't get adaway, or viper audio, or customize many things. I am pretty disappointed that there's no root, but I love the phone itself so I am just going to keep hoping.
When can we look forward to a root for the galaxy s6 active?

Good evening folks,
I'm thinking about purchasing a Galaxy Note 5 but I want to make sure that I'll be able to root the phone without creating issues. I currently owned a rooted Galaxy Note 4 that I absolutely love because I was able to get rid of all the bloatware. I will like to be able to do the same for Note 5. Can someone please help me with this? I am looking forward for your response. Thanks in advance.

Who is your carrier? The note 5 is "rootable" but it will stop samsung pay from working for forever, and depending on the carrier could disable your phone.
I will be using T-mobile. I dont really care about samsung pay. I dont think I'll ever use it. How do I root the phone?
There are a lot of methods of rooting the phone but I would like to know which one is the easiest way to do it. Thats pretty much the only thing thats holding me back from buying the phone.

If your interested in t-mobile rooting go to t-mobile section. It's extremely easy. I've rooted in minutes. There are only 2 kernels available but work extremely well.

PDAnet doesn't work any longer. Been like that for years on the Nexus / Pixel line. I forgot what the messages were, it's been a long time. I just had to hotspot.

Glad I read this, I was about to get the 4 XL for pdanet usage via USB tethering option. Not gonna work for me. Bummer. /end excitement.
It's working perfectly for me. Unlocked Pixel 4XL from Best Buy on Verizon. PDANet+ Ver. 5.22.1. I'm bootloader unlocker and rooted with Magisk. Also followed the native tethering guide here https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-4-xl/how-to/how-to-native-tethering-rooted-pixel-4-t3993405. I previously used it on my Note 8 and had to do WPS to connect because it changed the password every time I believe since the Note 8 was unrooted. I have FoxFi key installed but not FoxFi. It's not being throttled either. Getting 60-70Mbps down 10Mbps up
I haven't been rooted in years. Perhaps that's the way but I never used to have to do that I don't think. Nonetheless I'm glad it's working for you.

The link you provided has nothing to do with PDAnet. Does that work if you're not rooted? I actually forgot what the problem was that I had, maybe it was a licensing issue? I paid for it many years ago so maybe they wanted another subscription fee? I have a Verizon plan that includes the hotspot even though it's probably throttled. I'm just curious if it still works, I even still have my license key. Years ago when hotels were charging $10 or so / night for internet access it was a savior.
