Hey all,
When I am on a mostly black screen like the settings screen or stock clock app, I have an off black streak from the mid point of my screen down through the middle. Its not a perfect line, more like a crack, but nothing is physically damaged. Anyone else have this? Seems like a screen defect that I will need to warranty out but just checking. Thanks.

OK, my tilt is under a month old and have two concerns regarding the screen. When using the slider, at the very top of the fully opened "motion" the screen ripples in the center as if it is being compressed with a finger. It is about half and inch in diameter and repeats if I slide the screen at the top of its fully opened position. Is this normal? It is visible under my solid blue background.
Secondly, under certain lights there is a rainbow effect when the screen is off. This is only noticeable if I have it under the light at specific angles. If I push my finger on the screen it moves as if the two layers of the touch screen are in constant contact with each other and in turn when I push on it, I can manipulate this location. This is visible under the center most part of the screen. I am using the original screen protector provided by ATT.
Just wondering if this is normal, if not, I'm tempted to return it and get a new one under the 30-day policy.
Thanks in advance!
Anyone please?
Ive never noticed anything like that. It sounds to me that there is some space between a few layers of plastic and that is causing diffraction of light which you see as the rainbow affect. If you have the option of replacing it with a new one I would. I mean if I buy something I want it to be in mint condition when I pay for it, not damaged.
Yesterday my Captivate developed a line that goes from the top of the screen to the bottom. I turned it off and pulled the battery. The line comes back the instant I turn the phone back on. It seems to take on the predominant color of the background. On a black screen it is not visible (other than on the top bar). On white text window it's bright white. On grey keyboard it's greenish.
Has anyone experienced this? I assume this is covered under warranty. I just hate to go through the grief.
I've never dropped or gotten the phone wet. It is running stock Froyo.
Sounds like your screen is defective. Sad news is that you'll have to go though warranty...
So my Screen broke and I bought a new one so I could replace it, the touch screen/digitizer didn't break though... at first the colors just started washing and fading untill the screen ended up completely dark, I could still use the touch screen and feel when I would unlock it, after a day the phone would not give me any feed back by vibrating or turning the orange light while charging, so I dismantled it using some tips from these videos:

After I put everything back together the phone is giving me feedback again and I can notice its charging because of the orange light, but the screen won't turn on. Does any one know if I might need to do something on the software side? like needing to re install anything? or do you think I just got a bad screen?
Update: I just took it apart again and reconnected the ribbons, its back together and the screen still won't turn on.
You have the AMOLED screen and not the LCD?
Did you compare the #'s on the old and new to see you got the right part?
Cables are the same, they look the same, part # and stickers are different...
What are the part numbers on your new and old screen? I just went through the same thing, but I'm fairly sure I got the wrong screen replacement. Will have to look more into it later tonight.
My screen wont turn on at all. I was so excited to get my N1 back in action as well.
My display seems to have cracked in an odd way. As you can see, there is a hairline crack, but I can't feel it with my thumb - either it hasn't breached the surface of the glass or its in a layer beneath it. The phone boots, but the screen is 100% off.
I get touchscreen response, as it vibrates when I roll my thumb over the unlock points. My trackball glows, and it looks like the phone is in perfect working order besides the crack and dark screen.
What do you think is going on? Does something need to be replaced or might something just be loose inside? Is there a way to determine that without opening it up?
Obviously, your LCD is gone.
Try to re-connect the LCD Panel on the motherboard, then try to light up the screen using a flash light, preferably a LED one, just to check weather the back light is damaged.

I had a similar thing on my old wildfire. You've got to get a new LCD screen.
So my phone cracked up today(rip) while I was doing some gym exercises. The phone fell from like 1.5 metter or so and the screen cracked.
The problem is that screen won't turn on, even when the phone looks like it works. I tried to furce shut down and turn it on and back and recents buttons work, but screen while stay black. What should I do? I will replace the screen but I'm not sure why screen won't show up, maybe something got disconected with the fell? Does anyone has any type of experience with this?

So, your screen is broken, and you need to have it repaired, what is the problem? Some parts still working?
Just get it fixed...

I really don't know why you asked this question, but I always try to be helpful. Since you did drop it, and from such a height (do you like keep your phone in your pocket while doing pull-ups? Mine's always in my bag and I use BT earphones).
Since your screen is cracked, and that impact could've damaged your phone in many ways.
1. You could've damaged your digitizer, which is a screen replacement situation
2. You bent a cable from your screen to something else, and that may be the issue, still would need to replace the screen.
Your buttons working have no relativity with the screen not working, it works with other hardware not interacting with your screen.
Don't go for third-party screen replacements that "fixes your digitizer seperate from the touch", it mostly doesn't work, and it'll be a waste of money, if you bought it from OP Store, just RMA it, or if you bought it from a seller in your country, just order the screen off eBay, and have it fixed. Your shop will most likely replace it with a non original screen, which will be horrible.
Cheers!
I think he is confused about the glass versus the AMOLED panel. A lot of times, you see folks with broken glass, but the screen still works (still displays graphics) and he is wondering why that isn't the case. At least, that is how I'm interpreting the question.
The answer is that the "screen" is composed of layers. The top layer is the glass (which for Super AMOLED also incorporates the touch panel or digitizer) and below that is the AMOLED which actually displays the graphics.
Since the glass is broken, and the AMOLED is not working, it's possible (or even likely) that the AMOLED was also broken in the impact. Yes, it's also possible that a connector has come loose. But from what I'm reading, it's actually common for the AMOLED to break before Gorilla Glass does: http://www.gophermods.com/amoled-vs-lcd-tale-two-screens/
A lot of times when you see folks with glass broken, but everything (touch and graphics) still work, it may be with LCD screens; which are supposedly more durable (more possible for glass to break before the LCD).
