[Q] Remove branding from Vodafone HTC One - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello - this is the first time I have posted a question on these forums and initially I want to apologise for my noobyness and if I have made any errors in where I am posting or how I am posting.
My intention is to remove the Vodafone branding from my HTC One. By this I am referring to the splash screen and the Vodafone apps. I do NOT want to root the phone. I do not want to root the phone because I use the Sky Go app an awful lot, and it does not play well with rooted phones - I am sure everyone knows this.
From reading these forums it would seem that I might be able to achieve this by flashing the stock HTC ROM without rooting the device, is this correct or have I misunderstood the situation? If it is correct I should be able to manage this myself as I have unlocked the bootloader and it seems I just need to install CWM and flash the stock ROM? I do not have 100% faith that I have understood this correctly so am looking for clarification or any other suggestions and feedback.
Hope someone can help, and I am really sorry if I have in someway broken any rules or made some kind of hilarious noob errors!
Cheers

To achieve a debrand you might need S-off, getting supercid, and flashing another rom. If you are already unlocked, why you wouldn't want root?
Maybe you are referring to a RUU flashing, but since you are S-on you could only reflash a stock rom same as yours (and still get ota's)
If you don't care about ota's i suggest you to flash the lastest Android Revolution 51 based on 4.4.2, that is IDENTICAL to stock just faster and snappier, and you will get rid of that apps. (not sure if for splash screen you need s-off or not)

I appreciate your response!
As stated, I simply cannot root as the Sky Go app is not compatible with rooted devices and I use it all the time. It seems as though it might not be as simple as I originally hoped which is a shame but it might be something that I just put up with. Perhaps there will be some other suggestions but once again, thanks for taking the time to help.

To do what you suggest (complete debranding) you need to S-Off, depending on your situation you will need to use one of the three methods now available
1- revone
2- rumrunner
3- firewater
Once you are S-Off, you can change CID to unbranded (MID won't need changing as it should be PN0710000 already for you) and then flash/run a full international unbranded RUU. That WILL completely debrand your phone, including any splash screens, bloatware, carrier specific apps.
If you stay on the international RUU, you will receive OTA updates as and when they become available.
If you have any other questions let me know

Hey, again thanks for responding - I have a few questions and apologies once more for being a bit green!
I have hboot 1.55 so from what I have read I need to use the rumrunner method and in order to do this I would need to root the phone first, could you clarify that for me? If this is the case is there a possibility to unroot the phone after the process is complete so that I can continue to use the Sky Go app?
If so then it would seem that I would have to proceed as follows -
1 - Root device
2 - S-off using rumrunner
3 - Change CID to unbranded
4 - Flash international RUU
5 - Unroot device
That sound about right?
Thanks again, really appreciate this.

MID is probably PN0710000, so:
1- make a "fastboot getvar all", keep this for the record
2- make note of CID, MID, and version-main (your firmware)
3- unlock bootloader (HTCdev)
4- install a custom recovery CWM or TWRP
5- install a ROM consistent with your firmware version (preferably rooted and unsecured kernel)
6- get S-Off
7- change CID, using "fastboot oem writecid HTC__001" <- two underscores, CID is always 8 chars!! here's a list of unbranded CID, depending on the language packs you want you may choose other than HTC__001
Code:
HTC__001 --> HTC-WWE
HTC__016 --> VODA-Africa-South
HTC__032 --> HTC-EastEurope
HTC__102 --> HTC-GER
HTC__203 --> HTC-FRA
HTC__304 --> HTC-SPA
HTC__405 --> HTC-ITA
HTC__A07 --> HTC-Russia
HTC__E11 --> HTC-Dutch
HTC__J15 --> HTC-GCC
HTC__Y13 --> HTC-Nor
8- (optional): reset bootloader to LOCKED and unTAMPERED, using http://www.htc1guru.com/guides/guru-bootloader-reset/
(there are also other methods, but i guess this would be the easiest)
(personally I just removed TAMPERED, but keep my bootloader UNLOCKED)
9- RUU.ZIP: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu-zip...1-27_10-31-1131-05_release_310878_signed-zip/
rename to ruu.zip, then flash in bootloader/FASTBOOT USB
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip ruu.zip
fastboot flash zip ruu.zip <- yes TWICE, the first one will report “failed flush again”, the second one will succeed.
fastboot reboot-bootloader
done, take OTAs to 4.4.2
STAY S-OFF

I have currently no luck with an Orange branded stock ROM (15 August 2013) coming with my new HTC One.
OS 2.24.73.8, hboot 1.54, Androïd 4.2.2, Kernel 3.4.10, CID ORANG202, MID PN0710000
What I currently get:
1) Htc dev unlocked- OK
2) Rumrunner 0.5 : must ferment longer (2x)... then ERROR: looks like device is not rooted AND lacks an unsecure kernel
3) Firewater (temproot method) :
Root acquired, thanks HTC ... OK
12 bottles opened, still no buzz NOK
According to my configuration and your point 5, which ROM should I install ?
Thank you for your expert advice.
Kind regards.

between your points 1 and 2:
i- install a custom recovery, TWRP 2.6.3.3 is popular these days: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7 (make sure not use a download manager on that site and check MD5)
ii- then install SuperSU: http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu (from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053)
and try again, remember to keep an eye on the phone if a superuser prompt comes up, you have to grant it.
should work after that,
but if it still says "ERROR: looks like device is not rooted AND lacks an unsecure kernel" then you may need to flash a custom kernel, such as ElementalX-m7-3.12.1 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2249774

Please excude me for being very cautious but I am still an Android rookie !

Yes,
* TWRP 2.6.3.3 is compatible with any M7_U or M7_UL model (ie MID PN0710000=M7_UL)
* SuperSU is also compatible
* (if needed) ElementalX-m7-3.12.1 is made for "Google Play Edition and Sense 5 Android 4.2.2" (ie 2.xx.xxx.x)

Hi all
Thanks for all taking the time to reply to this, I have decided not to proceed. I simply do not have the required level of knowledge to feel confident enough to proceed or the time necessary to acquire the required level of knowledge. I wanted to debrand in order to get a better price when selling the phone, however it's not going to be worth much if I brick it! Would probably only gone for £10/£15 more anyway so not worth the risk. Thanks again though - love XDA - I'll make sure my next handset is unlocked I think

[Q] Flashing RUU

Okay - time to swallow my man pride and ask for directions...
My current software version is 1.28.61.7 and CID was Orang001 - realising that EE were not going to be releasing the 4.2.2 update anytime soon, I decided to try and follow the advice of you bright chaps...
Following the steps in the:
[Official Chat] thread (past 2): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42086559&postcount=2; and
Revone guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582,
I have been able to:
Unlock my device (and turn tamper off);
obtain S-OFF;
Change my CID to HTC__001 (and change it to the SuperCID: 11111111 if required),
All going well so far - now the next step was to run RUU 1.28.401.7 and wait for the OTA - unfortunately this is where I am stuck...
I downloaded the RUU from the following site: http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/?developer=M7 (as the buggsylawson site appears to be down) and ran it. The RUU seemed to have installed without a hitch - no errors at all, however when I check my software number it is still 1.28.61.7.
Having spent a few hours reading these forums, I finally admit defeat - please help - what should I do next? What is the best way to update, remaining stock and OTA to 4.2.2?
In case it helps, my current kernel version is:
3.4.10 -gddcfb8c
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT
Thank you in advance!

That's not the point.
To the OP: Change the CID to 11111111 and try to flash the RUU again (if you haven't already). Knowing the kernel is pointless too, the important information is the software build, e.g. 1.28.401.7

Just finished running the RUU with CID 11111111 - still stuck on 1.28.61.7.
Really quite stumped...
It's pretty much impossible so not sure what's going on!
Clutching at straws here...
Any chance that I don't have the right RUU and it is only updating certain elements?
The RUU downloaded is: RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_4A.13.3231.27_10.31.1131.05_release_310878_signed.exe
991 MB from http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/?developer=M7
If so, where can I get the correct RUU or another for testing?
Thanks

The end result is the same, but in the TUTORIAL it's a lengthy process, and you'll have to flash an ENG hboot, which can be risky if you don't follow the steps exactly to the letter.
The tool is a flashable file (from within custom recovery), just like any custom ROM, and it has the Aroma Installer which lets you select which MID you want. Using the tool you should be done in less than a minute, whereas following the tutorial is going to take a lot longer.
My recommendation is using the tool: nice, simple, and easy, and no data loss.
Aroma sometimes gets stuck (not only with this tool, but in general), not a big deal!!, but I've had no problems, when i first wipe cache and dalvik in custom recovery, before running the tool. (or other tools)

so if I understand correctly, you just want a stock international HTC? (wonder why people don't like custom roms )
anyway, to get just international WWE edition, you have already have changed your MID to PN0710000, so now:
1- change CID: fastboot oem writecid HTC__001 (two underscores)
2- use the following RUU: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu_m7_...1-27_10-31-1131-05_release_310878_signed-exe/
since you're s-off, you can stay UNLOCKED for RUU, and definitely stay S-Off
after running the RUU you should start getting updates immediately all the way up to 3.62 (Android 4.3); 4.4 isnt out yet for WWE.
EDIT: just noticed you're in Dubai, so maybe better to change CID to HTC__J15 (WWE GCC), so fastboot oem writecid HTC__J15
EDIT2: running the RUU will wipe EVERYTHING off your phone including pictures, music etc.
Hit the thanks button if i helped
Thanks for the reply, if I change my CID to HTC__J15, will I still be able to flash the above RUU, and will I have touch problem since I'm running latest firmwarm/Hboot, again thanks for your help made things easier

1- touchscreen: no problem, because a full ruu will downgrade everything
2- the RUU is made for
Code:
modelid: [B]PN0710000[/B]
cid: HTC__001, HTC__E11, HTC__102, HTC__203, HTC__405, HTC__Y13, HTC__304, HTC__032, HTC__A07, HTC__J15, HTC__016
there are minor differences in the CIDs, for example, setting HTC__001 doesn't give you Eastern European country/languages, but HTC__032 does:
Code:
HTC__001 --> HTC-WWE
HTC__016 --> VODA-Africa-South
HTC__032 --> HTC-EastEurope
HTC__102 --> HTC-GER

hboot 1.55? you have to downgrade to 1.44 separately first:
so download this: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/1-29-401-12_hboot_1-44-zip/
in bootloader/FASTBOOT USB, flash it:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip 1.29.401.12_hboot_1.44.zip
fastboot flash zip 1.29.401.12_hboot_1.44.zip <---- just in case the above said “failed flush again”
fastboot reboot-bootloader
--> and confirm hboot is now 1.44
then run ruu.exe

Wanting to convert my Telus HTC one (m7_ul) to a GPE

Hello friends, I have an S-OFF HTC One that I am finally considering converting to full GPE Edition. I was on Bigxie's 4.4 rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341395) I was wondering what is the safest way to do this (if there's a thread on these forums I would GREATLY appreciate being linked) and I also have a few questions.
1) I understand that ALL my data will be erased. What is the best way to backup my data?
2) I have changed my CID to superCID but I was wondering if the conversion would work for my Canadian Telus HTC One (m7_ul) It picks up HSPA
(http://mobility.telus.com/en/AB/htc_one/index.shtml) <- link with all the details about my phone
3) *This one's a big one for me* Can I convert my phone to a GPE edition whilst having a custom recovery?
The short and sweet of it is:
1. S-OFF
2. Change CID (needed) & MID (if needed)
3. Flash 4.4 GPE conversion RUU file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781
You should either copy off your data locally or sync with google.
Custom recovery will be over written when you run the zip file in step 3. You can re-flash it after the process, but why would you want to?

Will I be able to get OTA? That's pretty much my whole reason as to why I am doing this.
Also, will I still be able to root my phone with superSU?

With correct GPE CID and MID you will be good to receive ota. You will not receive OTA if you keep super cid.
reboot your phone in fastboot usb
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Check your MID is PN0712000 and your CID is GOOGL01 (probably not bcause super cid) TELUS normally have CID PN0712000 so you should be fine.
If you need to change CID:
Code:
fastboot oem writecid GOOGL01
fastboot reboot-bootloader
confirm correct cid change:
Code:
fastboot oem readcid
then run the GPE 4.4 ruu.exe (can be found here: http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads)

One final question, I flashed the RUU and everything went well. However, I noticed that I still had Root access. I used the pre-rooted RUU zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781&nocache=1 Can I get the OTA update to 4.4.2 without messing up my phone? Do I have to remove root?
Might as well flash the non-rooted RUU..

[Q] Change Firmware on Australian 64GB to EU?

Hi there,
I´m from Europe and bought an HTC One in Australia (64GB).
I tried to change the Firmware to the EU-Version but it doesn´t fully work.
What I´ve done:
Unlocked via HTC DEV
Installed TWRP
Rooted via TWRP
Installed Stock EU 4.19.401.11 from androidrevolution.org via TWRP
It works so far but I can´t change to any other languages than English (Australian, New Zealand, US) and three asian languages.
What did I do wrong? Or do I need some other firmware?
Thanks, for your help!

1- changing firmware you need to be S-Off
2- but it won't affect the languages, that's CID dependent which can only be changed if you're S-Off
but you have easier alternatives:
1- use a Play Store app called More Locale
2- edit the xml files in /system/customize/CID
3- or in my opinion the best, just install ARHD 53.0 (if you want 4.19.401.11 Android 4.4.2)
As far as my phone info is correct I already changed the firmware to 4.19.401.11 or do I misunderstand something?
Is there any way to fully change my firmware to the current EU-Version? With OTA and everything?

the firmware shows in "fastboot getvar all", and what shows in Settings -> About is just the version the ROM is based on. installing a ROM doesn't change firmware.

Yes exactly,
1- you change CID by using:
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001 <- two underscores, CID has to be exactly 8 chars
fastboot reboot-bootloader
2- you change MID by using this tool (in a custom recovery): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535365
for a list of possible EU unbranded CIDs (which will affect the language/country available for selection)
Code:
HTC__001 --> HTC-WWE
HTC__016 --> VODA-Africa-South
HTC__032 --> HTC-EastEurope
HTC__102 --> HTC-GER
HTC__203 --> HTC-FRA
HTC__304 --> HTC-SPA
HTC__405 --> HTC-ITA
HTC__A07 --> HTC-Russia
HTC__E11 --> HTC-Dutch
HTC__J15 --> HTC-GCC
HTC__Y13 --> HTC-Nor
Once S-Off, do NOT go back S-On!!
Alright I´m gonna give this a try :fingers-crossed: Thanks!
Do you know where to get the current stock EU-RUU? I guess the stock one from androidrevolution I´ve downloaded isn´t as stock as I thought...

yeah you should go for a full ruu, not just a ROM: http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/ruu-file-downloads/
(but only do this once you've changed MID to PN0710000 and CID to your liking, as the RUU will overwrite everything (and also wipe your phone)
x.xx.401.x are international unbranded RUU, I would recommend the 1.28.401.7.
You should take a look at my guide (though intended mostly for warranty), most things will be the same for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082
just skip the S-On part!!! and also no need to LOCK bootloader if you're S-Off.
Thanks a lot! You´ve really helped me :good:

If something is unclear better to ask first, before doing something bad

Which CID gets the fastest OTA?

My CID is htc_001 and it sucks i allways get ota updates very slow compared to the other cids, so my question is to which cid should i change in order to get the fastest ota updates?
And another question, i flashed TWRP and rooted my phone, i still can get ota updates?
Again sorry for my noobish questions and my bad english.
You will need to be fully stock to get OTA's, recovery, no missing apps, stock rom etc.
and as for CID, well at a guess I would say super cid would get the updates first, however, recently ive heard its very dependant on your operator, country and whether you brought your phone or its on contract.
Im in the UK and on CID HTC__001 too, I read today that HTC are releasing the sense 6 update to UK customers somewhere around the 11th June, so Wednesday. im all ready for it, just got to flash stock recovery.

you need the stock recovery file (recovery.img) from the same version firmware of your phone. i.e if you phone is on 4.19.401.1 and you want to update to 5.20.401.1, you need the recovery.img file from the 4.19.401.1 firmware.

yes you need s-off, and if you change your cid, it must match your sw version! some software version only have a unique compatible cid and other have many compatible cid. i.e .401 sw version can use many different cid: HTC__001, HTC__Y13, HTC__032, HTC__203 etc etc..... but .502 version can only use one cid: CWS__001
to change cid:
Code:
fastboot oem writecid YOUR_CID [COLOR="Green"]<---- in most cases, start with HTC in capital letter, 2 underscores and 3 digits, always 8 characters total.[/COLOR]
i.e:
Code:
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001
you can read your actual cid with this command:
Code:
fastboot oem readcid
