About Carbon
CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look at, build, and use our code on CarbonDev GitHub. and on our Gerrit CarbonDev Gerrit.
We would like to thank CyanogenMod for their device trees, framework/settings mods and their code that was incorporated into this project. We also extend our gratitude to the devs whose code that we have incorporated. Proper authorship has been maintained and can be viewed on our repository.
Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, PA, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn't been mentioned here. If you feel you have been unfairly left out, please - let us know.
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.

Support
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.
Who is Team Carbon?
Find out here:
Carbon Team
Remember, every penny you send to us goes right back into the rom. It's used for hardware, server costs, etc - all the things that help us make Carbon better with every release. Your support means the world to us! If you've enjoyed Carbon, please consider a donation toward this goal. Thank you, and we hope you continue to enjoy Carbon!

Thanks for the great rom! Everything running great so far, except the fact that some games arent working I think that its due to bionic optimizations, cause when I flashed qualcomm optimized bionic libraries on my flo, everything was running great again.
Please look into this

Omni kernel? I thought, Carbon is based on Cyanogen ... please correct me if I'm wrong.
It is based on its own base built from AOSP, but there are two kinds of Boeffla kernels:
1.only for CM roms
2.Omni version, also working on majority of AOSP roms
Before flashing make a nandroid but it is working believe me

Thanks again. Omni Boeffla kernel working fine (tried CM one first and had to reflash Carbon then flash Omni)
Running smooth.. Nice rom.. A few problems though..
1. The settings button in the launcher menu will not work.
2. Trying to add another account for sync doesn't seem to be working.
Rest all seems to be good.
Using the boeffla kernel for omni.

Hey so I love that we have AOSP for my Sony = Sony Nexus!!
But who should I be following as the cutting edge of AOSP. I know Sony releases some sources but not the proprietary ones so I know most of it comes from there. I myself have just installed the latest RC3 of CM 10.1. And the bugs I used to have like Lockscreen delay and No audio on Hangouts seem to have gone. But why should I install FreeXperia over CM?
Is CM the base that everyone bases their AOSP on? Is Free Xperia more focused on the Sony Specific Issues?
And what about Linaro? Carbon? AOKP? Are they all based off the same source (they all seem to have the same bugs)
Thoughts? Direction?
Thanks in advance!
First of all, CM roms are made by the FXP team as they are official CM maintainers for Sony devices.
Secondly, Sony's AOSP sources are different from that of CM sources. AOSP implies pure android with stock customizations. CM sources is heavily customizable (think of all the settings you can do in CM10.1) they are based on Google's open source as well as the device specific source code released by Sony.

CM10.1 vs. Free Xperia
What is the difference between the regular CM and the one you can download from FreeXperia project?

I too would like to know this - obviously, they're very close, but there must be something different there.
I spent an hour trying to find this out the other night - got slightly excited when I saw a message from some poor sucker who explained he was a noob, etc, blah, blah, and would someone please explain the difference. The only reply he got was a terse demand that he go read the FreeXperia dev thread and work it out for himself ...
If someone can write an explanatory sentence or two about the difference between the builds on the official Cyanogen Mod site and the FXP* builds from freexperiaproject.com, I would appreciate it.

hey man, I had forgotten that I had made this thread but long story short FXP and CM are the same. CM has their own schedule, standards and code they develop and CM work towards AOSP for all their devices. FXP are SONY only, They use the code by CM and are responsible for both the Sony releases via CM and FXP. How FXP differs is that they can go ahead and release a lot of versions without any established "stable" or milestones they just release updates as they go. CM take those Sony specific changes that are made and combine them standard CM code are release Milestones, RC's and Nightlies with varying results
TLDR: They are the same, All the Sony specific code in CM is FROM FXP, FXP has no interest in making a stable version they just release new code in an almost "nightly" fashion. Their is no guarantee that the newest FXP will be more stable then the previous, its the same risk you take when you go with CM nightlies.
Personally I prefer CM Nightlies. If you want stable (with established bugs) go with CM, if you want to be running the latest CM code go with CM but if you want the latest sony fixes (unstable at times) go FXP, who updates about 1 every 1-2 weeks
Great explanation mate, thanks for that.

Sorry to ask for this, I know I should install and test for myself the rom,
But I just would like to know how is the battery life on this rom?
What about the power button? Does it work properly? Because I had this issue on android 4.3 based rom's.
And the camera? Clear images and sharper?
Thanks in advance!
Best Regards from Brazil
By the way, in my opinion android 4.2.2 is the most stable atm

Build that we currently have ported by Demetris is 4.2.2 and for me it is the best custom rom out there.Camera and battery are great even with stock app and stock kernel.Alwayse switching between MIUI and LiquidSmooth.Flash it and test is for couple of days yourself and see if you are satisfied.

It's even easier for YOU to test it yourself. Backup your current setup and flash it. Most of the mentioned bugs aren't even for everybody and it is actually quite hard for the devs to make a full list of bugs which occur for every single user.
If you don't agree with that it's your fault. The devs are doing an awesome job here and they do it because they want to.

In my honest opinion, bugs should be on the OP if they are known bugs. It's a matter of structure and information. But that's just me
From what I understood, carbon is a "fork" from Liquid and I think it's a compilation from source and not a port, right? If so, is it possible to compile Liquid from source as well ?
This question is for someone who knows or a developer

They stated that Carbon rom doesnt have anything to do with liquid team. Also if you look at title on older liquid builds by demetris you will see it says "Official" so i think it is possible to compile from source.Asked demetris long time ago about liquid future for our phone but still no answer.

No, they stated the following:
CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. The team is composed of former members of Team Liquid who have forked the code in an attempt to bring greater speed, better coding, and full authorship to code. We are in no way affiliated with Liquid0624. The rom was forked at Liquid beta 3.2.1 and has since undergone major code changes and modifications.

They "forked" the code, although it was changed a LOT, a fork is a fork
Anyway, I'm gonna have a look later on see if Liquid can be compiled for our p880.

Far as I understood the source is published.

Hi all!
I'm currently using the CyanogenMod 11.0 on my Samsung S3 mini and I'm happy about it :cyclops:
But, I'm also curious about the other MODs and I'm trying to find out what the differences are between the most popular ones.
And because I don't want to flash my phone a zillion times, it would be nice to compare the features of the MODs before installing one of them.
Would someone be so kind to make an overview of differences between these MODs:
CyanogenMod
Android Open Kang Project
PAC Android
Chameleon OS
SlimROM
Carbon
Thank you in advance !!

Cyanogenmod = daily usable for everyone, only few settings for customizing
AOKP = highly customizable, you can change almost everything (in my opinion just for pro´s)
PAC = also very customizable but more userfriendly with some cool features, i realy like it. Latest release is having trouble with heavy flickering, so don´t use until it´s solved.
ChamOS = Tested it, too much bugs. I guess it´s abadoned.
SlimRom = CM in black
Carbon = daily usable, stable, with more customization setting like CM. I´m fan off it.

NEXT RELEASE: 27 AUGUST 2014 GMT+8 0900
With the introduction of so many kernels in the forums, every user just wants his/her phone to enjoy the crisp experience of their device. With ASKP, you get to enjoy the brilliant works of all developers into one small kernel. ASKP, is a modified kernel that merges many tweaks together, just like P.A.C.
ASKP is only run by me and pattyboi for now. Please bear with the slow speed of updates. I'm working on 3.4 for the Galaxy Nexus and also for you guys at the same time.
I promised before, ALL ROMS WILL BE SUPPORTED. But when I say ASKP is fully released. For now, I'll be releasing slowly. So please bear with me.
Supporting Devices:
LG G2
Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Variants of ASKP released for per-ROM basis statuses: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53569650&postcount=6
READ THIS FIRST
- There's always a name in each file right? The word at the end is the most important. And of course, make sure the model number is correct.
ONLY TWO WORDS ARE GIVEN FOR SIMPLICITY. STOCK and CAF.
- CAF kernels are for AOSP ROMs. A N/CAF (Non-CAF AOSP) Kernel will also be present upon full release of ASKP.
- ASKP has just started venturing into G2's development, please be patient if there is no support for your ROM yet.
- I am not responsible for any problems incurred on your device. This kernel is not fit to be a daily driver YET. Still in pre-alpha stage.
Changelog To Be Released after Alphas.

Nice! And the important advice for You right now: You REALLY SHOULD write which ROMs do You support and which G2 variants.
There are some ROMs based on dr87 sources like SlimKat, and Mahdi ROM itself, there is CarbonROM and PA which use other sources.
Aaand there is CM which didn't even get updated to KK sources, lol.

You're using Cloudy's G3 eh. You're on luck. That's the first one.
Releases In order for Stock G2 and Ported G3 ROMs,
D802 (Released)
D800 (Released)
D801 (Released)
D803
VS980
LS980
After this,
Releases for All devices for Paranoid.
Then,
Releases for All devices for CM.
Also,
Releases for All devices under Mahdi's Sources.
Finally,
Releases for the next MOST requested ROM.
After this, expect features to fly in.
@nimrodsv Go ahead and ask him.
Guys, once again. THIS IS NOT A COPY OF DORIMANX.
I only copied his RAMDisk with his permission. Without it, I wouldn't be able to boot on the majority of ROMs.
The kernel source itself will be different from his indefinitely.
Wow, I am so lucky ☺
I will test it and let you know how is it. Thanks for replying.

Please read up guides on what comes with a ramdisk and a zImage itself. A boot.img is made from a ramdisk and a zImage. Even though the STweaks app exists, it doesn't mean everything works. I don't have Intelli features inside. so use your eyes please. I'm trying to be kind and patient.

If you see my development style in tuna, I do things part by part, in a systematic way.

You guys misunderstood me, meh. I didn't even say anything about the THREAD. It's the first one. The second one is, I just report to the dev what I see, I didn't say that it's a steal or anything, I just said that situation like that exists. Because i saw that there's everything like in dorimanx kernel, than maybe something went wrong with making the kernel.
Oh and about Intelli features, i see there are Intellidemand/Intelliactive govs, EcoMode, Intelli HotPlug, I REPORT it, REPORT, not ACCUSE.
Dang i hate misunderstandings. I appreciate every work and never want to make someone stop his work. Duh.
If dorimanx allowed to share everything with features he added like this now, then it's alright, I just reported in case he didn't allow it and You wouldn't see that or something.
So @Amperific keep going and sorry that u understood me wrong
Finally. We need more kernel devs. Thanks for joining the party!

Thank you.
But if you really don't appreciate my work, It's fine. I'll stop.
Not like I don't have other plans.
Anyways, Every development has its start. I admit. I have some dorimanx's commits. I'm reverting them currently till r5. Once we go past r5, I'll start working on pushing commits in.
If you see my development style in tuna, I do things part by part, in a systematic way.

Sorry. Apologies from me too.
Next few builds,
- Mitigate commits that are not needed
- Bring in ASKP's tweaks

Amperific, please don't stop your build. Coming from a gnex us users know your kernels are gold. I can't wait to try it out. I'm sure once non gnex users install the kernel they will see the magic. My request for you is a kernel that works with vanir on my d800. I'm a flashaholic so I jump from vanir, aicp, mahdi ect but just can't wait to try this bastard out??????

Guys before I sleep,
All Stock variants are up.
And I apologise about the CAF guide.
I briefly scanned through the source and realised that there are different variations of CAF. CMs, and etc. Even LG.
So all variations will be made available as well.
Nights
Do I need to go back on dalvik before flashing this kernel?
Currently i am on ART. If I stay on ART installation is the same? (wipe cache and dalvik then flash the kernel).
Thanks.

I was told that dalvik /ART is rom related not kernel

Hi all,
My apologies if this is in the wrong thread but I'd just like to clarify a few things about the types of roms out there and I'm sure you all understand the whole process better than me.
So my understanding is that aosp is the Google "original" android source so to speak, upon which other distributions are based such as cyanogenmod, miui and aokp??
Now taking cyanogenmod for our Xperia Sp for example, we have the "official" nightlies and snapshots of cm11 created by who?
And then do these form the base of say baguyz and mr steves lbl cm11 distributions? Or do they build them themselves from somewhere?
The reason I ask is because we have a cm12 lbl rom from baguyz but there are no "official" nightlies and snapshots for cm12 for huashan yet so where did this come from?
Lastly, now cm12 is released, does whoever works on the nightlies and snapshots for cm11 for huashan start doing the same for cm12 or does cm11 remain in development? If so, doors that mean we will see more cm11 m builds in the future, or just nightlies? And will there ever be an "official" cm12 for huashan?
I know this question isn't specific to xperia sp but i think it would be easier to understand in the context of a device, or more specifically, my device.
Thanks

Hello there,
You already have quite a good understanding of the matter although you are a bit rough around the edges so to speak.
Let's get right on it!
1) AOSP is the "Android Open Source Project" and it is a pile of codes, different softwares from C++ to Java and more to derive the source you are able to obtain through their repositories. This in turn, gets modified by both carriers and software development teams to create third party products you see today such as Touchwiz and the SenseUi. Most of the Android Systems and modifications are tied to this source code.
2)The Official CyanogenMod Nightlies are being built by what we call as, Build Bots. This BuildBots create Cyanogenmod from source as instructed by the Device Maintainers, who's job is to modify and improve the CyanogenMod source for the device.
3)CM12 builds you see currently are being built upon multiple sources from AOSP to CyanogenMod and maybe even OmniRom. They compile and improve the code to build this ROMs that you utilize.
4) Look to "3" for the answer
5) The device maintainers are still developing cm11 and will only start on cm12 if they're directed to do so. For why this is happening, I recommend reading the CyanogenMod blog article entitled, "L is for Later". It gives you a good explanation of why they are not creating cm12 as of now.

Thanks so much for getting back to me @Furrydaus.
Sometimes no matter how much you read there's just a few things that are difficult to understand.
Thanks for taking the time to reply as i know you are quite a busy dev!
