Anybody know how to do this? I found a solution for other devices, but not Droid 3. I need this pretty bad because my internal memory is getting full (11gb) and it doesn't save anything but media crap on external sd card (32gb) I need to save apps in ext card too..
Anybody interested?

Connect the device to the computer, transfer files to the external SD card (leave the folders alone). Done.
Or you can use Root Explorer and transfer the files...

Thanks for the reply, but I thibk you misunderstood me.
What I meant was that I would like to switch my External SD Card to Internal.
Since the phone saves everything (like apps) in the internal memory (except media files)
I want to use my full 32 gb sd card as internal mem instead.
I hope I explained clearer this time
You have to edit the mounting points in /system/etc/vold.fstab
I've done this on previous devices, but haven't done it on my D3, so I don't know if it will break anything, so do a nandroid before changing anything.
Do you happen to know how? Thanks.
Sorry. I want to keep this alive.
Check out this post from the CM9 thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21032236 . I am not sure if it can be used exactly as is for a Gingerbread setup, but it should at least give you a good starting point for what you need to edit in order to make it work for you. I know this was already mentioned, but MAKE SURE you have a nandroid backup and to be really safe make sure your phone is charged more than 50% in case you wind up having to do an SBF. If you were not aware, you can't program this phone when the battery is below 50% and it won't charge unless it can boot, so you can see the problem you will encounter if you brick your phone with a low battery.

He is trying to permanently swap the internal and external SD cards so that his 32Gb external is used as the primary storage and to accomplish this he will have to edit a few files in system. The link I provided earlier should get him the info he needs to do this.

Hi
Some time ago I tried JB Paranoid Android and my internal and external storage worked fine but switched back to ICS roms because of the problems JB roms had.
Now I guess they are more stable and wanted to try again so I installed Utacka's P.A. and I couldn't mount the internal storage. Some apps like camera said I had to insert an sd card. My sd card is mounted as my internal storage and the internal storage isn't anywhere.
I thought it was a problem with the rom so I went back to rocket miui and everything was fine.
Now I saw the cookies and cream Rom and wanted to try it but I'm having the same problem.
I searched in this forum for similar posts and tried ICS SD Binder and it doesn't work (or maybe I'm doing something wrong) and Remount Sd without luck.
According to Solid Explorer, my "Internal" sd's path is /mnt/extSdCard ("Internal" because in fact it's my external sd card) and I also have a /mnt/sdcard folder which says it's empty.
I would really apriciate any help and I'm sorry for my bad english and possible spelling mistakes.
Thanks

Yes, I did. Every time I reboot ICS Binder force closes so I guess it isn't really doing anything.
Do you remember which original mount point you chose?

It force closes for me too. Though quite annoying, it still works. I chose the something that looked like mnt/ExtSdCard (maybe I didnt spell it correctly but it is the closest to that spelling.) I think the original was odb... Try and lets see if it works...

It's not working for me. When the phone reboots, at the beginning appears a message saying it's checking for errors on the sd card and if I enter to settings/storage it looks like if it is mounting correctly because it says internal storage 11 gb and it looks like if it is scanning it and external storage 29 gb. Then ICS Binder force closes and the external storage desapears and the internal stoage is 29 gb.
Hello!
I can not believe this: My brand new Xperia Z with 4.2.2 has no option to put apps to sd card!!!
Where did this button go?
The only thing I can move are photos, music and videos! This is CRAP!
What did happen?
My phone is rooted but not on unlocked bootloader.
How can I get this option back?
I tried "Foldermount", but despite this app will cost money it is sending my phone into bootloops!
Could please tell me someone how I can get this crucial option back??
WHY DID THEY DO THIS?
Looking at this thread, I feel we should just stop with the arguing and actually try to answer the question.
OP asked why?
So, to answer your question, as of 4.2, external storage is emulated in order to support the multi-user feature.
Read here & here.
4.2 has changed the way storage is treated by the Android OS.
This is why it is no longer possible to move applications to the external SD Card.
Further, as to how you can try to build up some extra space, it would be nice to copy your Android folder (This is usually where the big games store their files) from the root of your internal sdcard to your external storage.
Then create a soft link like this:
Code:
ln -s /storage/sdcard0/Android /storage/sdcard1/Android
Similarly, you can manually create softlinks for other large folders and move them to external storage. (Should be no problem for a power user!)
I choose to stay above the arguments in the thread & stick to the topic. If you do reply to me, please try and stay on topic if you want me to respond.
Rants, discussions and arguments can be taken over to the general section. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, just find the right place for it, that's all.
c1ph4 said:
@kgs1992; This is so far the best response I got. Thank you very much, Sir!
Unfortunately your links are worthless, because it is all related to TWRP. The only "hack" I did so far with this phone is rooting it. I am really not interested in using TWRP/CWM or ROMs the next weeks and/or months. I am really looking for an option to solve this irritating problem.
You tell me to symlink this Android folder and you "guess" that there are games. What about other files? I will read this up as I think this is the only solution I can think of right now.

The links were meant to be informative, just to give you some info & provide a reference on which my answer is based.
Symbolic links is (currently) the only possible solution unless you plan to swap the internal and external sdcard mount points.
I don't recommend the latter though, nor can I help you with it because I haven't tried it myself.

Glad i could be of help :silly:
@kingvortex: I really appreciate your efforts! But after I saw this strange "Folder Mount" app I don't think this is the right solution for me. It also needs to be unlocked for money. If my efforts with symlinking fail, I will come back for more. But your advice could be useful for users with very very much spare time. And there is no guarantee that it will work...
@kgs1992: The links are informative, no doubt about that. But I realize that even the hackers from TWRP have problems with this new behavior. This should make us think.
The ExtSD2IntSD switch thing is no option for me either. I totally agree with you!
Just give me time to read this symlink option up. I also need to know where other files than games files are stored. But I also see a problem here that different manufacturers of games store their files in different places. Some ask where they should put the data to, which is good, others (like EA) just use your internal memory without asking.
So, you see: What I need to do know is reading, reading, reading and trying, trying, trying. And maybe one day I will find a solution. But this problem was not there in 4.1.2. Time is a precious ressource nowadays. We should save it and not waste it.
All the best

@kingvortex is absolutely right.
I gave you the method, i.e. symlinking.
But he, it seems, gave you an app that does the symlinking for you without you having to do much of the work.
I would say his solution is far better than mine, although both effectively do the exact same thing.

You mean the app, right? No, that is the point, it does not work.
All these apps either say:
a) your device is not supported (sic!)
b) your external SD card is emulated (sic!)
These kinds of apps are obsolete now. Thanks to, well, you know already.
Symlinking does not work.
After moving a game directory to external SD card and symlinking it via "Terminal Emulator" I get the following message:
Code:
link failed: function not implemented
I also heard that symlinking is _not_ possible with FAT32 which drives my SD card.
And now?? Great.
P.S.: I have three different places to search for files before moving, btw: storage, sdcard0 and sdcard1. Veeery intelligent.

Did convert the file system from FAT32 to ext3. All my files are still there.
However, now Android says "SD card empty".
Perfect.
I give up. It is not possible anymore.
What I did:
1) made one partition FAT32, so that this poor little Droid can have his supreme SD card primary deluxe file system
2) made another one, ext3
I ended up with two partitions on the same SD card.
3) downloaded "Link2SD" and started it
4) first it lets you choose which file system is present on your second partition (in my case ext3). Then
5) "Link2SD" said: "Could not create mount script. Mount: invalid argument."
Finish! Nothing worked. I'm out of this. Good luck.

External storage "swap" for Xperia Z1. that will be safe for z1
So that we can make external SD card react as our internal storage by doing this we can directly downloads every thing on our SD card and can install more HD games.
Usually 1 HD game have 1GB to 1.5 GB Data and 5 to 6 games fill up all 11 GB available Internal storage in our device, but if we exchange our internal storage with our SD card than we can fulfill our requirements by using a 32GB or 64GB Sd card

Right now I am using Gameloft to SD app for moving all my games to SD card
1) First fix your remount reboot error get it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317432
if you did not have recovery then use windows.exe installation method. Rooted device is requied
2) Download GL to SD app from play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slf.ListglApp&hl=en
move your games data
3) After moving data you can play games by this method only
3.1) open GL to SD app
3.2) you will see two button on top right side, first button is mount and second one is for unmount
3.3) press the mount button
3.4) Now click on play button which ever game you like to play
4) after close the Gl to SD app all the folders unmounted, so if you want to play again you have to open GL app again and mount the games.

Swap is normal terminology for offloading the least used data to slower drives. I suspect that the op is asking for a way to use the memory card as internal storage, and vice versa.

Sorry I could be very wrong here, in that case sorry. I thought OP was referring to making a swap partition on the sd-card and using that as swap. I've seen people do this on 'low-RAM' devices to increase multi-tasking a bit. That's why I wondered what he was up to since he has 2 gigs of RAM.

Hello everyone!
I flashed my XZR from Kitkat to Lollipop a view days ago.
After flashing I had 1 GB lower internal memory left, than a had before.
In detail, I had about 2 GB of memory left, when I started the download over OTA. The file loaded on my XZR and than it flashed. After end of flashing and reboot, only 800 MB to 1 GB internal memory are free now.
Could it be, that lollipop need 1 GB more internal memory as kitkat? I am confused now, cause I need more space in internal memory.
What happend and what can I do?
Greetings Lemmi.
Yes, lollipop needs more internal memory. Because lollipop is ART based, kitkat was Dalvik...
But 1GB, that is very much cause of only 8GB internal storage.
Try moving the apps to your SD. That's why I did to free up space from the internal storage.

Yes I tryed this already, but it dont helps much. Maybe I have to change to another smartphone with more than only 8 GB of internal memory.
Dont wanna go back to Kitkat, cause I think Lollipop runs smoother and better.
Think about rooting, but I think not everything works well right now on XZR and Lollipop with root and maybe there is no working recovery for it and the secong is I dont wanna open bootloader.
Maybe Link2SD could work and solve this storage problem. Aktually the app2sd function isnt enough on my side.

I have now installed about 100 apps (phone say it took 4,39GB - 900MB Free). After 60 apps installed phone say full storage, so i try scan by Xplore and I find in root folder one rly big folder. That folder is /data/data/com.android.providers.downloads/cache that I deleted and get around 1500MB of space. Seems to be some like thrash from Google Play Store. Root needed.
Ok, that helps me a lot. I will go on and root my XZR again. Think it is simple.
And by the way I read in your signatur that you have root and no recovery.
Here is the way to get a working recovery:

All you need is Link2SD, I have a lot of apps installed on my phone, yet I still have over 2GB of free memory left
Do link2sd really work with our xperia zr? Cause on 4.4.4 we must do a workaround, cause if dont you end in a bootloop.
Can I use it without any problems on Lollipop now? I will try it, but it could be better, when I know problems before they happen
An how big you make the sdext partition on sdcard?
Just tried FolderMount for ColorDict and Telegram and both work fine.

There's no need for any workaround. I have an 8GB SD card (I don't know its class right now, doesn't matter), and I've split it 5 - 2:
-5GB for the sdcard1 partition,
-2,2GB for the sdext partition, which the Link2SD app uses.
There is a guide that tells you how to format your SD card right, the best way is via the MiniTool Partition Wizard.
If you've selected ext2 in that app, you want to select EXT4 in Link2SD. That way, when you reboot, everything will be fine.
This is because I've seen many bugs when it comes to creating mount scripts - you select ext2, but when you reboot, nothing happens.
Ok, good news.
I knew link2sd well from my old smartphone.
But I always formated the sdext partition with ext4 and normaly it worked. Hope so here too, cause it may be faster.
My SD is about 32 GB, so I can make a bigger partiton. But I think 2 GB should be best.

So do I. The guys at the Xperia M section helped me out a lot with Link2SD
Right now I had made a sdext partition of 2 GB and formated it 4ext.
After starting link2sd and setting mountscript to 4ext I get a bootloop Dont work!
Think I need a fix or a new remount boot fix for XZR. Think the old for kitkat will not work or will it?
Hello people.
Just updated my ZR to lollipop, yet I am suffering form the lack of internal storage, moving apps to my 64gb SD card seems useless, it refuses to transfer large data files to the SD card, like OALD 8 have a 450 mb data file that needed to be placed in the internal storage.
the ZR is really nice fast device but it`s internal storage is so horrible that makes you think seriously about changing the phone .

Try uninstalling apps that you don't use. ARTS in Lollipop needs much more space than Dalvik, so every app counts. This is also true for system app. I uninstall several system apps, mostly from Sony. Then most important of all, after all these, wipe Dalvik and cache in recovery and let the system re-create them again. This process increase the free internal space from 500MB to > 1GB for me.
