Hi everyone.
Just wish to know is it normal that internal memory in Xperia ZR being decreased from 8 to 4,2 GB after upgrading Android from 4.1.2 to 4.3?
Updates takes some memory, of course, but to me 4 GB (50%) seems rather to much...
Anyone experienced this?
If this behavior not normal, please advise how to get back internal memory to normal amount of about 8GB...
Also, I've used Root Manager and tried to find where the rest of almost 4 GB disappeared, following some threads at some forums, but unsuccessfully. Those 4 GB are simply disappeared...
Do you use Google Play music? It was caching massively for me. Had to stop caching or periodically go into the app then settings and click delete cache.
Or maybe it's another app caching?
Just a thought.

You didn't have 8GB to start with - all firmware versions have taken up about 4GB.
From the start the internal storage in our zr (8gb) already being partitioned for the rom, data, cache, etc... Thats y the more apps u installed in ur device the less the storage will be as they eat up the storage for being installed and at the same time generating the data and cache. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah...I realized that in he mean time...
But, I have different problem with my ZR... battery draining rapidly fast. Over night, for some 6-7 hours, it loosing 16% regardless stamina mode on or off...wtf?!
And all with WiFi and Mobile data switched off, processes at minimum (only 5-6 of them works, those default which cannot be stopped), dispaly off....
This is very strange and seems like A 4.3 problem...
When look at the battery consumption, the Android OS is absolute winner with 80% of consumption!
And all this started after upgrading to Android 4.3.
Any solution, or link to solution?

Battery problem should be resolved with the new update patch released - 10.4.1.B.0.101
Probably during the next week everyone should be able to update it.

Hey everybody on d XDA Forum. I recently sold my Xperia U for this S3 LTE. I receive uograde to 4.3 but after i upgrade the battery life very bad. I need a way to solve this. If not i go back to xperia u and no more samsung for cause same thing happen to me with galaxy y
I noticed too an higher battery drain since the update... I tried to freeze all samsung bloatware, to block system sync but it's nowhere near the screen time I could get under 4.1.2
See multiple posts and see 4.3 battery post above this one .
It's a problem many people are facing...
Well, this a problem apmost every smartphone user is facing nowadays. While Smartphones have gotten better and faster with the passage of time, the battery lives have gotten worse.
But male sure to turn off Wifi,Bluetooth,GPS,3G/LTE when not using them.
Using apps like Greenify and battery doctor may help improve battery life as well.
I oppened a thread about this battery issue. It seems like this drain is given to samsung blot apps, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2615463
Battery drain caused by different issues different apps installed by different users. Install greenify and wakelock checker and u will know what apps are using or running in the background. For me it was mx player once. Then i reflashed another rom it was facebook and activesync email. So trial amd error urself. Thousands are saying battery is better then 4.1.2 so cant be the rom. Cheers

:good:agreed. Betterbatterystats & wakelock detector can really helps to find the drain problem. Then, use greenify & tasker. Nice combo.

After playing around with some Maclaw ROMS (cm10.2 and cm11) I went back to stock ROM. However I had big battery drains after that.
I did a complete wipe of user and cache and dalvik. I installed stock firmware with Odin. Did it over again with KIES. But still a big battery drain. Like 15% an hour. No apps installed other than the bloatware the in the firmware.
I've read somewhere about someone else who had the same issue, but I cannot find it anymore.
Anyone an idea?
Maybe you should try to format all partitions in recovery (except your internal and external SD card of course) and reflash the stock firmware.
By the way, 15% an hour is quite normaal for me.

Custom Roms battery drain, can be the 1ghz bug .
when you did alot off playing ( such as flashing from rom to rom an formatting again in a few hours. it cost you battery .
And now back on stock rom. Try to load your battery again to 100 % and see what will happen after it .
Stock rom = 100 % - 0% battery --> +- 20 hours
Custom roms= can do it longer.
but if you are a heavy caller, gamer. the battery will be down faster .

I've had the same problem. I updated the working 10.1 october version to the december version. After switching back to october version the failure was still there. Only way to solve it was a new battery - but it costs only about 10 € ...
i think that it is true that rom by itself is still buggy with cpu governer bug that causes to be stuck on 1ghz without dropping to 200mhz on the other side...when i try another version i shall make my jugdement more clearly
i got this problem on 02.13 release when i update to 02.16 problem was solved. didnt update 02.18 yet

Perhaps you should also consider the lifetime and usage of your battery. After months of charging and discharging once or twice a day, it´s not so unnormal that a battery goes weak...which has imho directly nothing to do with the used software...

Thanks for the reply.
I charged again to 100 % en let it go to 0%. It took about 9 hours, AIRPLANE MODE!!!
Checked CPU with CPU spy: it goes to deep sleep.
No apps installed except the bloatware the Samsung firmware comes with (and CPU spy).
Maybe it's just my battery gone bad/dead at the same time I tested the Maclaw roms. I already ordered a new one (2450 mAh!), but it takes about a month to get here (if it arrives all together; I live on a tiny little island).
However... I also noticed I do not have network coverage some times. Just no network. Could it be that if you flash it with Odin/Kies not everything is wiped and reinstalled? Like modem drivers (although it's strange the drain also occurs in airplane mode). To make it more complicated: I just moved to another place, so maybe the coverage is worse around here.
I just hate it if I can't pinpoint the problem

Hi!, I'm having the same issue here:
-Super-battery drain, specially when restarting the phone, huge 20% drops.
-Phone looses signal inexplicably,5 bars and suddenly dead, restarting solves the problem, but when signal drops, the battery starts getting HOT, even on IDLE.
-Im using Carbon 4.4.2 KitKat ROM on S3Mini I8190L.
Battery was working quite well with Cyano 11 about 3 months ago, switched to MIUI ROM because a friend recommended it, ROM started to be unstable, laggy and battery life wasn't great, had the same "signal lost" issues. Then downloaded the Carbon ROM and everything went worse.
-I always do full wipe, (davlik, data, interal storage, everything).
Any ideas?
First of all I would like to say that I have searched the forums and Google but to no avail. Hence I am starting this thread.
First of all the RAM, the free RAM on 4.3 (stock .205) is awful, sometimes I am down to about 70mb even after a clean boot I have around 250-300mb free. This is ****, my 2011 Xperia had better RAM management. Is there anything that can be done to fix this or does anyone know what uses so much RAM (I have de-bloated the ROM and have minimal apps, none of which eat significant RAM).
Secondly battery drain, whenever the alarm (stock Sony app) is on I get horrible battery drain and the android os uses excess mobile data which causes the battery drain (device never deep sleeps). It is a very annoying issue that I haven't been able to fix, I typically lose between 23%-30% over night at a rate of ~3% per hour.
What do you guys think? Any suggestions?
Any input is appreciated.

Wow, free RAM under 70 mb maybe u should check all of your running apps, each apps have a different memory usage and there is one app with much memory usage, and as we know, the bloatware is also use the memory even though they are not using it. When i'm on stock, i had never get free RAM under 150 mb, my phone is rooted and i'm using root uninstaller app to freeze some bloatware apps and uninstall them :good:

The RAM issue is a pretty common issue with our SP.
You can try some different custom ROMs in the development thread (Out of the ones I've tried OmniRom seems to have the most free RAM so far). Also, if you have root and you don'y want to remain on the stock ROM, try using Greenify for apps you don't want to constantly run.
WLD (wakelock detector) is another app you can install to see what apps are misbehaving and destroying your battery life

Yeah, I tried some ROMs, including eXistenZ but to no avail. As for the battery issue it has something to do with the alarm/google play services/android os, but the funny thing is that eXistenZ does not have the battery drain.
You might check what xposed framework can bring you. Has some nice add-ons to handle wakelocks in a better (w.r.t battery life) way

I tried with Both USA and TW Firmware.. Even tried after full reset.. Still same issue.. I think we have to wait for bug fix or any work around solution ..
I am using the US version, not rooted everything stock. When I installed I faced very heavy drain, even with a charger the battery was going down. After a few reboots everything is back to normal. Battery life is nearly identical to kitkat.

Hey guys,
I think I might have a problem here, I did OTA update over 10.5.1.A.0.283, got 10.6.A.0.454. Everything seems to be working fine, the system is quite smooth, yet battery life is worse than it was!
Cell standby and the OS seem to be consuming way to much battery, my reception isn't perfect, yet I checked in Cell standby and signal loss is at 0%.
I do have STAMINA on, yet according to CPU Spy the phone never goes into Deep Sleep. Isn't that suspicious?
You'll find a few screenshots attached to this post to give you an idea what I'm talking about. I'll try to flash the full rom today and see if it helps, while I'm typing this message FlashTool is creating an FTF file so that I can flash it later. I'll keep you posted.

From my point of view, it totally depends whether you did an OTA update or flash the new ROM. In my case, I have the Deep Sleep state active for a lot of time, and here's the screenshot:
Did you make a factory reset before/after flashing? Most time this helps.
Think the scan location when wifi is off option (in wifi setting) has effect on the google play service.
Also I am testing what exactly that stamina clock option within stamnia setting does. It seems it affects the battery in a not necessarily good way.
This is annoying. Sony includes all these features that are basically rubbish...

Hi,
I installed lollipop onto my ZR via the PC Companion a week ago, and I used a clean install (repair). My battery life is very bad compared to kitkat. I don't use my phone often, mostly it is in standby mode with mobile data enabled and stamina mode enabled (I added a few applications to stamina mode white list: gmail, facebook messanger, etc.). With kit-kat I had to charge my phone every 3 day, but now I have to charge it every day!!! this is 3 times worse than kitkat. If I check under power management - battery usage, I see a few apps have several hours of 'mobile radio active' (mostly gmail, chrome).
I have searched for this on internet, it looks like it is an lollipop related issue and not a sony related issue. Lollipop has this issue since 6 months now , and they didn't do anything to fix this (there are tons of forums posts about this on reddit, and on other places). I have the feeling Android is getting worse in every new version, and Google hire the most ****tiest developers of all time. They don't even answer to the thousands of user complaints of this issue. I will never touch an android phone in the future.

Just got my zr update to LP 2 day ago. For now seem like the battery life worse. Need to factory reset after this hopefully that help .

Hello everyone
I recently bought a used Xperia Z1 (C6903), which came with Lollipop 5.0.2 installed (Build .270). It has a defective screen, which is going to be replaced shortly. I mostly use it with a mouse via USB. Other than that, it is perfectly fine.
On Thursday, I inserted my SIM card on the device and installed the latest build available for this device, which is 14.6.A.1.216 (Lollipop 5.1.1) via Flashtool, making sure I did a factory reset. On Friday, I rooted it using KingRoot (promptly replacing it with SuperSU) and, as I did my research first, installed Wakelock Detector to compare the battery between each Android version. On 5.0.2 battery was pretty good, maybe because the phone didn't have the SIM card inserted, but still used WiFi and had a lot of apps which were left by the previous owner (Such as Facebook and FB Messenger, which both are battery hoggers). Even then, the phone had tremendously good battery, managing to reach 3 days on a full charge (I observed that before buying it). The only problem was that the phone overheated a bit.
Now that I have installed 5.1.1, things got worse. The only good things are that the overheating problem is gone and the performance seems a bit better. However I saw that for many, the battery was way better on 5.1.1 than on 5.0.2. This isn't the case for me. The battery drops approximately 1% each 30 minutes, with the screen off. I don't have mobile data on, as I always use WiFi, so the radio active bug doesn't affect me (right?). I have disabled most, if not all useless apps or things that would keep using the phone's resources. I disabled them, not uninstalled them because the phone has a problem with root permissions, saying that system is not mounted as R/W but still giving apps root access and they can disabled apps just fine. Currently I have none of my apps installed with the exception of Wakelock Detector, thanks to the battery drain and the defective screen which prevent me from doing much. STAMINA mode is on, but I don't notice it working too well, as it doesn't turn WiFi off when the screen is off, even though that option is turned on. I cannot deliver an exact screen on time as don't use the phone that much, but it is average 3-4 hours.
Wakelock Detector tells me that the phone has been awake by 12%, even though there aren't any wakelocks nor apps that would take batery. I would have tried with BetterBatteryStats but it is a bit confusing to use for me. Most people here on this phone's XDA forum complain about the battery in Lollipop, but Kitkat has provided them very good battery life.
Is there any way to fix this? I will provide anything that is asked, such as screenshots of Wakelock Detector, etc.
Should I downgrade to 4.4.4? (Build .157 or whichever you recommend) or perhaps install a custom rom based on 4.4.4, like iHackers? I would test them myself, as it is the best way of telling the difference, but I have a very bad connection and downloading files over 1GB+ takes 5 or 6 hours, only if it doesn't disconnect automatically. The most important things for me are the performance of the phone and the battery life.
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad english.

Right. I will use it, thanks for the tip. As you have to downgrade to KitKat in order to install custom recoveries and the like, I already did so. And I discovered something new, which wasn't on Lollipop. KitKat's battery stats show that 39% of the phone's battery is used up by the screen, even though I barely use it and it is on the lowest brightness possible. Other than that, another culprit is the mobile signal, which shows a high usage of battery.
EDIT: I have now installed the rom and indeed, the battery problems seem to be gone. Battery isn't dropping as it did, and Wakelock Detector says that the phone is now 1-2% awake
At 1 point, 5.0.2 had a lot of battery problems and performance issues
Are u facing any on MX now ?

So far, battery has been perfect the phone easily lasts 1 day and still has 40% left. I guess that could be better, but I am satisfied with it
One thing I have noticed is that even though the ROM has much bettery battery management than the stock rom, it feels somehow slower. In developer options, the "Force GPU rendering for 2D" option is enabled. I disabled it and weirdly, the phone seems to be faster and smoother, like it was before. The opposite of this should be happening, as I've read that it instead makes the phone smoother than having it ticked off

None, especially since the latest firmware was used. try chaning your kernel, I use Advanced Kernel, thought the latest has a chinese/japanese twrp recovery, he might fix that in the next version.

Hi
I've reflashed the ROM, stock kernel and now it seems perfect.
What does advanced kernel offer in your honest opinion than the stock kernel

I normally would test stock, then go ahead testing a custom advanced kernel and compare the findings and differences over a few days of usage.
However, will be using stock for now as it hasn't given me any real problems with performance and battery

Are you using mx rom? If so could you please upload a screenshot of your battery usage stats?

I'm not using mx rom anymore, I decided to use a customized stock rom from scratch, sorry.

Why did you change? I just installed mx rom now! Seems pretty good so far, but still too early to comment on the battery
There's no such issue with this update.
I'm sorry to say this, but things are now where they were before I flashed MX Rom
Three days ago the battery started draining like before, with high usage of the process "Android System", approximately 30%. The screen also has high usage, but really shouldn't as screen on time is barely one hour. I also learned how to properly use BetterBatteryStats, and it reports that the device has 100% no or unknown signal. The phone also is doing weird beep sounds around the camera area. I've factory reset the device, but it didn't do anything. In fact, it is worse now. Battery drain is approximately 3% an hour. And that is with WiFi, Mobile Data and almost everything else off. I also don't have any apps installed. The same happens with Android Kitkat. A lot of apps are also disabled.
