It never stops amazing me Phandroid reports the price of Galaxy Gear maybe going down and this is failure.
Prices of all devices drop after several months did the reporters at Phandroid forget this fact? It is one of the reasons being a early adopter is not always wise.
This is the first Smart Watch to have dedicated forum on this site. Is that a sign of failure?
I am sick of people saying how badly the watch is doing.

sometimes it does means failure. but we have to ask ourselves if Samsung plan was actually to make Gear a 'non failure' device or they just wanted to get it first on the market. Pebble or Sony Smartwatch 2 are far from what I would have call a "smart watch".
either way - launching gear was a failure. compatible with only Note 3 at the beginning, terrible battery life, no external notifications, lack of software etc. it was limited on purpose, but for no reason. gear is powerful enough to be working with all modern smartphones. so yes, i judge the device on the release day - why would i care what it will become in few weeks/months? stock Gear is **** and the only reason why i keep it is because i can use it the way i want it to - not some korean creeps designing my menu..
thank you f0mey for saving this product!

Still have not used or tried the Null Rom, it is my understanding all it does is replace the Touchwiz interface.
Gapps means nothing to me because my Note does not support bluetooth tethering.
.... but that is off my own Topic, still believe if the price drops it is mainly due to normal life cycle.
Have not bought a device yet that I could not get at least $100 cheaper in 3 months, the Gear is 3 months old.
it's completely normal for all electronic devices to go cheaper with time.
null does not replace touchwiz interface, it allows you to use any interface of your choice. you like nova launcher you can use it. you prefer google experience? the world is yours. it allows bluetooth tethering, two way sync, direct dial shortcut and way way more. if you haven't tried it yet then maybe it's just not for you (surprisingly there are people out there who are happy with stock thing ).
i use my gear - for other than notifications, time and calling/camera - for viewing agenda, to-do list, displaying some text on it, calculator and more.. and nothing of it could be achieved without null.

before i used null i had root and could install and use all the things you mentioned above. i love null but just saying that it was still great without it and better with it.
Or it simply means there trying to clear stock for the next release of the gear which is expected to be in 3 weeks.

No kidding.
I paid $299 for mine the day they where released but I love the thing.
If you worried about things like TVs/cameras/stereo equipment etc. going down in price you ill never buy anything.
I don't know where all these rumors are coming from for a galaxy gear 2 already being released. That's just downright stupid... The note 3 and gear were just released a few months ago! The things still brand new and the N3 is still the best phone on the market right now.
Releases are done typically once a year... hence iphones, Samsung galaxy devices etc... its not every 3 months...
You guys are basically saying they would be making three different models per year if they are releasing the GG2 this fast... then another 4 months the Gear 3? Waayyy to fast.

i understand your logic and thoughts on this however wearables are very new and could be updated at first much faster to address things they just didnt know until they released what they thought was the right mixture of style, performance, apps, etc, etc...
i consider myself generally an early adopter and look at this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
although i am in the early adopter category most of the time i sometimes want to read and see what happens with something before i jump (usually depends on cost) and Gear was just really about is it really useful.
here is my opinion:
1. i saw some usefulness in it but not day 1
2. i finally had to know what it is all about myself and so i bought one actually expecting to return it since i have 30 days as a BB platinum 30 day no restocking fee customer
3. after 3 days and finding this section of XDA i knew i was keeping it
4. i can see where improvements could be made
5. i do not in any way regret my purchase even at $299/US
6. i personally would LOVE a new edition
7. the new edition would have to really prove itself as having enough to get me to upgrade
8. even if the next edition doesnt motivate me i will probably upgrade because thats just what i do
dont let new models even if its 4 months later upset you and instead appreciate what you have and decide if the newer model comes out in a date faster then what you feel is fair.
as long as Samsung continues to support this model for a decent amount of time then what difference does it make that a different model is released and if it works for you as it is then you can continue to enjoy it

The galaxy gear was released Sept 4th. Thats almost 6 months ago!! Samsung releases 2 flagship phones a year. Thats once every 6 months. The S4 came out in march. 6 months later the note 3 in late Sept. The S5 is to be unveiled Feb 24th and probably released early March. Why wouldn't Samsung release the Galaxy Gear 2 then? I bet you they do!!!!!!!! Samsung is hurting right now for pieces of the cellphone market. They've got to pull out all their tricks.

I think Samsung will continue to support the GG when GG2 is released be silly for them not to.
What will intrest me is if the GG2 Firmware & software can be ported over to the GG.
google glass is not a widely available consumer product yet, it's meant for developers (and celebrities , unlike gear which you can get in almost any electronic/phone store.

Such a shame! For starters they could have reduced the high return rates by making the SDK public and adding some more apps to the store.
Is it really just a pilot? Personally I don't care now we have unleashed the potential powers of the Gear with fOmey's Null_ rom
As an app developer I do care however... I'm burning to create apps for this device. But all signs are in a complete other direction

i don't see how its a flop .... just because some wieners say it is a flop doesn't means its true. null_ roms from f0mey are making me fall in love with my gear, its an awesome device , just needs the potential unlocked by samsung providing SDK free for all and some good developers developing for this device. I am sure it would happen soon.

p.s. : i got rid of iphone 5 just for this (GEAR), and i have an ipad lying around .... i have always been android lover but have a lumia 925 too .... and my preference is android, apple is dead meat. Windows mobile is ****....
I think that Apple refuses to appeal to early adopters. If a product doesn't sell a billion units and appeal to the simplistic users they feel its a failure. Personally I use a MBP and have for years and love it, however I wouldn't piss on an iOS device because outside its initial release when there wasn't other device like the iPad/iPhone out there. Now it hasn't advanced for ****. Being an early adopter I love the constant change and dev. of the devices. For me its not about what fancy accessories I can get but what the device itself can do and how it can be pushed. Oh well, they will forever sit and bash on Android devices now that Steve Jobs is gone. Their competitive edge and creativity is gone too.
Samsung just contradicted the 50k estimate, says it sold 800k units

800k it's not bad. If the system was not close ( just a few samsung phones) the sales were 5x at least. I own smart watch 2 and gear, note 3 and z1. The pluses for sm2 are the waterproof and a little bit the clasic design. Gear is better expecialy after the last update. I wear everyday the gear.

when you search the internet the Galaxy Gear gets bad press and its nuts, I was a little put off buying one at the start but decided yesterday to spend the cash as I am in Brisbane Australia for 3 weeks of training then back to NZ, I when I first brought my gear (yesterday) went to try some notifications and thought what the hell Samsung why would I want a notification that means I then had to open my phone.......... now think about this
Samsung is NOT some back yard designer/manufacture but a multi discipline very very big company, did you know they build heavy Industries?
So now we know Samsung is a very clever bunch of people... why would they sell a product with such a negative response from the public?
My answer to this came today when I upgraded my Gear to the latest firmware version and suddenly ALL the things we wanted were present, think about this.... how hard was it for Samsung to add this extra features? SIMPLE... so why release it without it?
NEGATIVE ADVERTISING IS THE CLUE
If you think about the amount of coverage this has given Samsung in a very short time well....... and they fix it with a simple update? perfect marketing!!
Oh and im very happy with my gear including the price, it will exponentially improve over the next few months
Also look at the thread count and posts in the smart watch section, another thing you see comments out there stating its useless without a phone.... well yes you need to do the initial setup, but its got a built in clock, when you turn off your phone, or flatten it...it still keeps time
samsung is great at making hardware, but i can't think of any part of the software that i really appreciate. i would love if they just stick to releasing new devices itself running pure android.

Samsung with the latest update is wayyyy ahead of sony smartwatch witch is on the 3th generation. Also, the negative publicity because of the non-availability of key features on a device that's hardware specs should allow, makes developers naturally want to get their hands on it and fix these problems, then what does Samsung have, a bigger developer following to help enhance this newer device form factor so they can be the first on the front lines with the most development, so they can set themselves as the main smart watch manufacture, so they can control more of the market, in short, they peoples at the Samsung do da business sneaky and outs o dey own greed like a de apple butt-a-heads (but not nearly as selfish and unconcerned about the true advancement of technology as the advancement of their own wallet) Lolz on rants but it's true.

Of course it is, the Note has always been announced at the IFA in Berlin in September.
Anyone with more than two braincells and Internet access could've told you that.
As for the details.. Logic can just as easily tell you those.
QHD 2560x1440 resolution (S5),
between 5.69 and 6" (anything bigger is the Mega, anything smaller is the S)
Fingerprint scanner(S5 planned) ,
Dust&Water resistant(S5),
AMOLED(always),
4GB RAM(1GB more with each version, 1GB more than current S model.) ,
Quad & Octa variants. (ongoing trend.)
LTE and 3G model.
CAT 4 LTE chip. (N3 has one, CAT 5 not in production.)
+-3300mAh battery. (s5 gets 3000, N3 3200, N2 3100.)
Spen (duh.)
KeyLimePie 5.0. (4.4.2 is already out, so 5.0 is more logical for september.)
There, anyone can do this lark.

We already know Samsung has been working on 64bit for quite a while. Common knowledge. Check Sammobile.
Key Lime Pie was always set to be 5.0. There were even Alpha-leaks.
There was never going to be a KitKat until they made that deal with Nestlé. KitKat is a sponsored deal, but 5.0, whatever they may name it, will be released eventually.
I'll sit it out untill the Note 5. Unless they do something massively revolutionary, which is highly unlikely.

Hahahaha worst video ever!!! There is one thing that MKBHD never does and thats speculate MONTHS in advance, the Note 3 just came out. It's time to speculate about the S5 or the M8, but the Note 4 is 3/4 of a year away and there is NOTHING that came out as info, not even a rumour because people are too busy concentrating on stuff that is more realistic. There is not a single thread of information about the size, design, specs, and yet, a kid on youtube seems to know a lot about the COMING OUT SOON note 4
Also one more thing, when you say "Coming out soon" you lose all the people that will subscribe because you just showed how full of it you are or how far you,re ready to go just to get views

KeyLimePie 5.0. (4.4.2 is already out, so 5.0 is more logical for september.)
There, anyone can do this lark.

It's all about being credible. You should learn about credibility before you make another video. Don't sell your credibility to get views by saying stuff like "Note 4 is coming out soon". To be honest, thats the only reason why i clicked your link on XDA, but once i saw what it was about, i can guarantee you will never get any of my views or subscriptions because i dont follow people that sell their souls.
You also have almost 60 videos, by the time MKBHD had 60 video, he was professional. Don't quit your day job

Also one more thing, when you say "Coming out soon" you lose all the people that will subscribe because you just showed how full of it you are or how far you,re ready to go just to get views

thanks for the "worst video ever", that's just your opinion. the Note 4 is only 6 month away, I have a video on the M8 as well, my information is based on magazines interpretation and information that was collected from trusted sources that leaked information about the Samsung note 3 before" in fact at CES 2014, the head of studio for the Samsung design Dennis Miloseski, said that the Samsung galaxy Note 4 will arrive sometime in the fall coming up 2014, so people stay tuned I will have a hands on review as soon as it comes out :laugh::good:

LOOOOK!!! You've just proven my point...you're again full of SHHHHHHHHHHHHH. The note 4 is not 6 months away, it's more like at least 8 months away, and even if it were 6 months away, ITS NOT COMING OUT SOON!!!!!
Numbers don't lie, almost as much dislikes on your video than likes, also your thread is votes on XDA at less than 2 stars, that mean you votes 5 stars and the rest voted 1 star

Not 60 videos, my brother was previously working on the channel who is 7 years old, I recently took over and made it a tech channel, and thankfully I have been able to get some subscribers as soon as I have started my tech review, if you are not interested in the channel I am not forcing you to subscribe, it's your choice, and yes 6 month away is not far away so it's "SOON"
So I just read an article saying that samsung will be releasing a high class device tomorrow in Russia..can this be the premium version everyone has been waiting and speculating on?

Actually, it may happen. Samsung execs deny a Galaxy S5 Premium, yet hint at an upscale smartphone lineup... and a Note 4.
That device is the NX Mini, which is a smart camera.
I think "High Class" is actually a translation error . I think it means something else in Russian.

The vice chairman specifically mentioned a premium line of "mobile phones." This, as you said, is just a camera. The new Prime Galaxy is still coming.

AFAIK the Samsung SVP just mentioned about a premium lineup, but did not specifically say that it was lineup of mobile phones.
Even Samsung CEO JK Shin dismissed the rumors of a premium Galaxy S5.

He mentioned mobile phones specifically at the annual shareholders meeting. Read his quote below:
"Samsung Vice Chairman Kwon Oh-hyun, speaking at Samsung Electronics’ annual shareholders meeting, has said that the company will be looking at maintaining its dominance "in key businesses, such as mobile phones, TVs and memory chips, by rolling out premium lineups.""
Samsung VC hints at premium line of smartphones, while CEO denies premium Galaxy S5
No premium Galaxy S V is coming. But an entirely new premium mobile phone line, as per the vice chairman, is coming.

Going by that quote alone, it could be coming this year...or within the next 10 years. It's hardly something to be talking about now, considering there's not one piece of proof to suggest anything otherwise.

No proof, but too many inside sources mentioned a "premium line-up", a metal frame, QHD screen, 20MP cameras, OIS element, SD805, new Exynos and 4GB RAM for something like that not to happen. Also see timing: the S/Note release was in a 6-month cycle before, but the S5 was announced earlier in February, opening a large gap until the Note 4 launch where the premium line-up could fit in, say around late May when Android 4.5, SD805 etc. are expected to launch. With the S5 being so conservative in design and specs, it wouldn't be Sammy if they didn't push out something bigger soon, just not bearing the S name.

Those same inside sources mentioned mostly the same things to be used for the S5. We all saw how credible those inside sources were. If anything, the Note series will gain some upgrades, but nothing spectacular as these "inside sources" claim. Like it or not, we will only see incremental upgrades for quite some time, regardless of the line or manufacturer.

If Samsung really is releasing a "Prime" device, I highly doubt they will be doing it any time soon. I can't imagine they would want to under cut their own flagship device. IF the device is what people think it is, I would bet that it would be more of a Christmas time release around the same time as the note. I certainly won't be waiting for one.
On a personal note, while the M8 looks nice in the store, there are some draw backs to the all metal frame.
1) VERY easily scratched. In fact, without a case the device will likely be fairly marked up by the end of a year for many people. I've seen this in person many times. This is the case with the M7/8 anyway, I suppose Samsung could do something different. My local VZ stores even put cases on the display models, because they were getting scratched up.
2) If you put a case on it, the quality factor of the metal body is hidden and wasted
3) At least in the case of the M7/8, no removable battery or easily replaceable back cover.
4)Weight.
I'm in the minority I think, but I'm fine with Samsung's plastic build quality. My S3 was indestructible even without a case.
Agree. I personally don't like aluminum on phones for those reasons..maybe a harder poly carbonate shell and less chrome..the lumias are plastic yet they feel premium..I think a lot of people will be pissed if Samsung does release this in the summer..I know I will since I'll be buying the s5

The Lumias are Unibody plastic without a removable back and hence they feel more solid and premium than Samsung's devices.

I'm hoping that if Samsung does release an Android Wear watch, that it is of similar hardware as our Gear 2s and some dev smarter than me can port the OS to ours. Otherwise, I may be upset since I just bought mine 2 weeks ago. That is of course depending on the features of the rumored watch.
If it's all of the "wear" functionality, I'm not gonna be happy. I got my gear 2 neo just over a month ago which means I can't return it...

I'm selling my gear 2 for a gear wear (or any good android wear watch) the second it hits the market. Im not ready to live thru tizens maturity for wearables. Until now i've been disappointed with the app selection and notifications. Any android app is a few lines of code away from being an android wearable app and that means a lot to an ecosystem that has a lot of added value with already a huge community behind it
More than likely I'll sell the gear and get one of these android wear watches. I don't know yet, we'll see next week.

The Neo wasn't that expensive after the recent sales so even if I ditch for AW, it won't be too much of a loss. I knew Android Wear was coming, yet kept the Neo as I'm hoping the awesome potential of the hardware can be unlocked eventually. I don't get the comments like "I'll be pissed, because I just got my Gear" - AW was announced awhile ago with expectation that devices will be dropping this summer - it shouldn't be a surprise to you guys.
AW will most likely have more Dev support and more apps. The only thing is I don't need -all- the apps, just specific ones to get what usage out of a smartwatch I want.
I'm encouraged as some of the stuff I have been requesting from Devs are being fulfilled. Maybe we get lucky and AW can get ported to this hardware (doubtful). If AW can't get ported to Neo, I hope Samsung announces an AW unit that has the IR blaster like the Neo- I'm open to trading to that. To my knowledge no other AW announced has the IR blaster, and I kind of want that.
It will be interesting to see what is announced. Just got my Gear 2 last week, and I love it, so I'm not looking to buy anything new anytime soon.

Turn your flame blower off. Everyone here knows about Wear, and knows what they currently have, as well as what may be to come. The question was not to agitate, but to gain perspective...

Best move for Samsung at this point it to ditch Tizen and work on converting the Galaxy Gear watches to Android Wear. This isn't a war they can win. This is very reminiscent to the HP Touchpad problem.
HP faced STRONG criticism when the Touch Pad failed similarly. HP didn't support a HP-OS conversion to Android and Cyanogen had to come to the rescue.

There is one major difference, Tizen has a lot of MAJOR players involved that will do everything in their power to develop it and make it a major android contender. HP was a lone player with their own OS in a world where there already was a lot of other mature OSs. The wearables is the only chance Tizen has to florish because there is nobody in that market yet, if it does it will be on your wrist. I like android wear much more but if done right, Tizen can be something worth it

Maybe Samsung should find a developer that can TIZEN a sim card, gps, and allow streaming music and video on the watch.

It would be awesome. Samsung has already stated that they are releasing a wear smartwatch, which is most likely a test to see what their customers will go for. Judging by the huge gaping hole in the Tizen app store, I don't blame them. By formally releasing their own Google Wear device, it looks like they have already made their decision as to the future of Tizen on smart watches. At least for now.

It seems unclear what the Samsung strategy is, as the new device has no camera or home button.
It sounded like Samsung siding with Google and maybe ditching Tizen.
Hopefully it will be a mix and Gear 2 & Neo users get Google Wear, but knowing Samsung after barely 3 months they may just ditch them.

In theory yes. I know that me and some other developers are working on creating custom roms and recovery for the gear 2/neo. Its just a matter of time before we can access the recovery. Once that is done we should be able to flash Android Wear on to them. The Live and Neo are almost the same compared to specs. The Gear 2, however, has a camera function that isn't present in Live. Also the IR function would be gone as well.
