[Q] trying to upgrade from android hd 31.6 to 51.0 - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok so its been awhile since i have flashed my htc now and i need to refresh my mind.I am currently running android hd 31.6 on my htc one and i want to upgrade it to android hd 51,0. do i need to re-flash it or is there another way to upgrade it since i have a older version of the same rom ?

You have to flash the new one.
Do a nandroid backup.
Backup your apps and data with Titanium, Helium or whatever.
You can try to flash the new ROM over the top, without wiping user data, but if you have any issues, you'll have to select the option in aroma to wipe it clean, then restore user apps.

Make sure you have TWRP 2.6.3.3 or 2.6.3.4

Can someone post a Safestrap 4.1 Backup - solved

Hello
I have jb 4.1 with safestrap.
I accidentaly updated SU binaries on the Stock rom. Now my root is gone, but I can flash roms just fine. I have old version safestrap where you cant install on stock rom(even roms that have root). But I want root on the stock rom.
I think I can Restore to it.
If any of you can post the safestrap Backup image of a clean rooted install of stock 4.1 that is rooted, backed up from the stock rom slot, I'd be very happy.
Thanks.
This has been solved, read last post.
I'll try modifying a backup of my own... can you guys tell me what version of SuperUser binary is good for root?
If you can post your system/xbin/su or system/bin/su file and have working root on 4.1, that'll help too.
Re: Can someone post a Safestrap 4.1 Backup
If you have a backup, why don't you flash that?

My backup has a modified build.Prop and probably a few extra apps added into the system/app folder
I don't mind uploading it, I just don't know the best site to upload it to.
Sent from my phone.
I dont have a backup, thats the problem. If you have a fast connect you can upload the whole, but only if you had it as stock_rom slot.
Looking for file share site.
https://www.wetransfer.com/
Try this and click the share button, then the link button. You dont need emails that way. Also it didnt work in firefox for me.
EDIT:
OK, he sent it, I'll try in a few.
EDIT 2:
IT WORKED!!!
so what youre saying is you flashed back ICS with safestrap?
can i get this ics rom?

No, I restored a rooted JB rom back because I lost it on stock JB rom.
He had an old version of safestrap that doesn't allow flashing on the stock, or safe, slot, so he was unable to simply flash a superuser zip.
But, by restoring a previously rooted safestrap system backup, root was regained.

Is AT&T stock ROM image still available?

Hi, saw this thread as a search result and while I think my issue is similar, I'm not sure, so if I need to post a new thread, I'd appreciate knowing that.
I have an Atrix HD with Batakang in slot 1 and of course the stock AT&T ROM in, well, the Stock slot. I have Safestrap 3.11. I wanted to unlock the phone for int'l use, and it simply would not give me the prompt to enter the unlock code (said "Invalid SIM" or something like that), so I left it with an AT&T dealer because the process should have been simple, but wasn't.
They couldn't do it either, but when I got the phone back, the entire 8GB ROM space was wiped! Batakang was gone, the Stock slot is empty, and unfortunately, the Safestrap backup I made of Stock (and left on the internal SD) was gone too!
I did have a Batakang backup which restored fine, I entered the unlock code OK in it (I assume that worked - there was no confirmation message), but still have an empty AT&T stock slot.
What ROM images I've found are not compatible with Safestrap, so what I'm looking for is either a Safestrap backup or a zip installer compatible with Safestrap, or any other suggestions appreciated! Thanks!

[Q] CM10 Rom

This is my first Droid and I'm trying to put in cm10 custom ROM, jellybean 4.2.2 on my t879 note. I am pretty much following the directions but to no avail. I have a note t879, cmw 5.3 i believe, cm10 ROM, and the gapps. The errors I'm getting is the no data error when finding the ROM in recovery or the series 7 error when installing and it aborts. Please help me with this process.
Did you make sure you turned off the MD5 check?
I'm not sure if I've seen that, so it might still be checked. Where would it be located?

i have the same problem trying to flash roms and im still trying to figure it out lol

[Q] Preperation for 4.3

In preparation for the update 4.3 I would like to ask a few questions. The Xperia SP is my first android phone, first android device for that matter; And being someone who always enjoys to tinker with things I quickly delved into the world of rooting and custom kernals.
But there are a few things I'm unsure about and would like to ask a few questions:
1) When I update to 4.3 will it erase many settings? Such as contacts, apps, root and bootloader? If so, can I use the CWM backup I have to restore all my previous settings whilst keep the 4.3 update?
The reasoning behind this is I had actually managed to root my phone without unlocking the bootloader. I had not known this at the time, I didn't understand the steps fully and thought I had unlocked the bootloader, which led my trying to install a custom kernal. (Of coarse this softbricked my phone, but it was easily fixable). So off I go to unlock the bootloader. I did not realise that doing so would wipe all settings on my phone. I panicked. It was 4am, my phone was back to being as fresh as a new born and I needed my phone for work in 3 hours. So I restored a backup I made with CWM and lo and behold, all my settings where back. Wallpaper and all. Even better, the bootloader and stayed unlocked.
2) What will happen to my custom kernal if I upgrade? I'm currently using Doomlords custom kernal and I really need to increase the sound levels on my phone (The xperia has some god awful sound levels, always so quiet). If it does remove the update will I be able to instal the custom Kernal again or will I have to search for a new one specifically for my phone and version?
1. Things like settings, apps and contacts will remain the same after update, but you will lose root (and your bootloader WILL BE unlocked coz you unlocked it before, right?)
2. Your custom kernel will be overwritten by the stock kernel from the update and you have to search for custom kernel made for 4.3

[Q] XT860 w/ SafeStrap 3.05 Cannot Boot Backup or "Stock" ROM

I'll try to keep this concise. I've been rooted since I first bought this phone over 3 years ago, I received the 2.3.6 OTA Bell update from 2.3.4, rooted again and it's been like that until a month ago.
I successfully installed SafeStrap, made two backups, and installed CM9 onto a slot, it didn't work well but it booted on the first try. I then tried MiniMoto 2.3.4 which worked perfectly, then a 4.0.4 "Motoblur" build in which enough things work to get by. All of these I installed using SafeStrap and they booted fine on the first try. They've even held up to me modifying them.
If I disable SafeStrap my stock 2.3.6 rom boots perfectly. If I try to restore my backup to a SafeStrap slot and boot it, it bootloops and freezes every time. I backed up my stock reset rom and tried to restore that, same result. I also tried the "Bell 2.3.6 Optimized" build I found here, which should be my stock rom only cleaned up, same result.
I've cleared caches over and over, tried copying the build.prop from my stock rom (although I'm not certain I did it correctly) and at this point I'm at a loss. I've searched and read all that I could find, but it's my phone's own default rom that I can't get to boot... Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!
-Kurt

you are trying to restore a stock rom slot backup, to a rom slot?I think that some modification is needed, maybe as simple as adding a file.
---------- Post added at 07:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:58 PM ----------
could try an advanced restore, and just restore data over minimoto, wipe caches before booting.
---------- Post added at 07:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:07 PM ----------
do you want the data or the system restored?
backups and rom.zips work differently, don't think you can restore a stock system backup on a rom slot
---------- Post added at 07:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:24 PM ----------
when stock rom slot is selected to boot, the safestrap's boot menu always says "disabled", that is how it works

As separate tasks, I'd like to...
1. Restore and boot my backup and go into it to check some settings. I guess the easiest way would be to restore it back onto my stock rom? I was under the impression I could put it in a SS rom slot. If that were relatively simple I think I'd rather it in a rom slot. (adding a file?)
2. Install the Motoblur 2.3.6 Optimized rom to a SS rom slot and get it to boot.
I understand safestrap is "disabled" when you boot the stock rom, I was just pointing out that my stock 2.3.6 rom works fine, I just can't boot the backups or "optimized" versions of it.
I tried to install Motoblur 2.3.6 Optimized over top of Minimoto to no avail, but I'm not sure if I did it correctly, I'm going to try that again I guess.
Thanks

I'd pulled the folder from the minimoto rom and tried to make a zip that was just the folder (in the correct place in the tree) thinking I could make a "patch" but it failed when I tried to "install" it. I had even added the folder to the motoblur rom zip using winrar but I hadn't tried installing it yet. I assumed it wouldn't work since I didn't really know what I was doing...
I installed your uploaded motoblur safestrap rom and it worked perfectly first go! It took forever to boot but I'm assuming its setting things up. I was even able to restore the data from my backup and things look good so far! Well, to be honest things are painfully slow right now, but hey, this phone barely worked when I backed it up, so I was sorta expecting this. Now I at least have a good reference for how I had things set up.

A Noob needs Help
Hi guys, I am running custom 5.1 ROM (Chroma) with a no-force-encrypt kernal. I am on metropcs (t-mobile) network. Which one of these files do I need to flash in order to update to the 5.1 radio, and how do i do it so I can keep my current rom and kernal? I am currently running 2.55.04p baseband. Thanks guys!
so if I understand correctly this is a flashable package to ota future updates without flashing back to stock or flashing stock recovery IMG?

Been reading all night on how to upgrade to 5.1 without a computer by just using my phone, I wanna flash a custom 5.1 ROM, so I was wondering if I flash the files here and I get to the completely stock 5.1 (Besides the recovery) ROM after its all up and running if i can go back into TWRP and flash "BlissPop 5.1" and everything will work fine? So what I'm asking is can I go from BlissPop5.0.2 to Completely stock 5.1 to BlissPop 5.1? Thanks
OK so I'm about to flash this to go back to stock, I'm downloading the TMo version, so I download the stock ROM file, the stock recovery zip, and the decrypt zip file?
Then I flash in this order:
ROM
Recovery
Decrypt
Correct?

Copy update zip to internal storage
Reboot into recovery
Wipe system, cache, and dalvik-cache (data wipe is optional)
Install zip
Profit
and NO DATA will be lost.

definitely. thats what i did. i flashed LMY47D from 5.01 and i am currently running 5.1 on vzw. let me know if you have any questions
I have the same question that was mentioned above but I don't think it was answered. I have at&t I am currently running 5.1 Benzo Rom, I did not do anything special to upgrade to 5.1 from 5.0 5.01, just found a rom that was on 5.1 that I liked and cleaned flashed. But I have noticed that my data LTE is spoty and battery life is horrible and has been on the 3-4 different 5.1 roms. Question is should I flash any of this that might help, that I didn't do going up to 5.1? Thank you for the help!
[/COLOR]Ok, i've had a read through this forum.
Just want to double check as i don't want to stuff it up.
I'm on Chroma 5.1.1 Build LMY47V
I'd like to go back to stock rom, with TWRP still intact and Decrypted and Rooted.
As far as i understand I follow these steps.
1. Download this (link on first post)
LMY47E (vzw)

2. Download this
no force encryption boot (optional):

3. Download SU zip. (already have on device)
4. Boot to recovery.
5. Wipe device. (default TWRP wipe device options ok?)
6. Install stock rom from point 1.
7. Install decrypt from point 2.
8. Install SU from point 3.
9. Reboot to system and grin.
I guess the other question is will this wipe EVERYTHING from the device, or is it just like installing any custom rom, which would leave all my Titanium Backups, photos etc on the device.
Thanks heaps

I did. No real difference. Probably just enhanced 95for a T-Mobile fix. They seem to be the only ones getting updates. Either Google messed up or TMobile but as far as I know, Verizon, ATT, and Sprint haven't got any OTAs.
