[Q] Help deciding on htc one version -dual sim vs normal - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I love to tinker and have been a regular on these forums since the early days of smartphones (long before android and ios)....suffice it to say I love to tinker with my tech.
Ok so here is the problem... After months of biding my time it looks like its time to get an HTC One.....and on research I've discovered my best option price wise was actually import it....and that the versions from Japan (Made in taiwan), China, and ?india? have Dual Sims, whereas those from HK, like those I could buy here in the shops in the UK take only one SIM.
Now it would seem a no-brainer that I should go for the dual sim option especially as I have two separate sims - one for work and one for play.
HOWEVER, I will want to root my phone immediately upon getting it and will DEFINATELY want to install custom firmwares in the near future.....
And so the question....never having owned a dual sim phone in the past.....Will these phones take the same firmware and then a little setting up with custom apps? Or will I need completely different custom firmwares? and if so is the CFW cooking scene as good for the dual sim version? (also I only read English and Spanish so I'm a little worried that I may not be able to read the pages where any dual sim firmwares might be posted).....
This would be a complete deal-breaker for me and I'd be forced to go with the single-sim option.
I've searched and cannot locate a clear answer to this question! All help much appreciated!!!

I have Dual Sim 802d version and its rock solid and all but the only problem I saw is non-availability of RUUs for the device (the Chinese ones caused radio problems for some fellow users with no signal and stuff) nor are their much custom roms for my device. After S-OFF I couldn't even flash Google Play Edition RUU as it bricked the device. Do a bit of research by browsing some of the threads. IMO if you aren't gonna customize your phone much like unlocking bootloaders, S-OFFing, etc.. HTC One Dual-Sim is a pristine device.

If you want more custom Rom and support don't go for dual sim
Smartphone and dual sim don't mix them battery sucker both ways
You will find your one SIM started problem in future not in network SIM not found like that
I have experienced with HTC desire v dual sim
from HTC One

If you do decide to go with the Dual SIM version getting custom ROM's might become a tricky situation.
Just for your reference for troubles that you may face see this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2626054
If you want to use custom ROM's get the one SIM version, as for your dual SIM's the good thing is HTC One supports hot SIM swap so you can pop the SIM in and out with out having to switch the phone off
Good luck on your decision :good:

Single sim is the way to go!

Thanks for the advice all. Sadly then, as I had feared, my urge to tinker precludes my going for the dual SIM model!
A new cfw every 4 months or so is what stops me constantly wanting a new phone!

In that case...
You may also want to hold back on the purchase as HTC may rls a M8 Daul SIM version and I'm guessing if you buy the M7 at that time you're bound to get a better deal ?

Tempting - have been waiting for the price to drop ever since release and it just hasn't done it mind you! That said I can import it from as little as £200!!

Diamond on PR

Hello everyone, I'm new in this and English is not my first language so excuse me for my bad english. I'm planing to buy the HTC Diamond but I live in PR and I'm stock with cingular for one more year I think, so if I buy the phone what do I have to do to make it work with my cingular SIM card?
thanks
Where are you planning to buy it from?
I'm planning to buy it from ebay. Is there any web site where I can find it for less?
Mine works in PR
I can tell you about my experience with the sprint one. I ordered the day it arrived on US and when it got here the net wasn't working and overall crappy. Sure most of the problems are now fixed but thanks to the community. You can try it normally or you can purchase on of these to make it work.
http://www.opirata.com/sigma-xsim-alpha-p-1718.html
You can always try CTI-Miami, or some other third party reseller. Also, you just need to put the SIM card from your old phone into your diamond for it to work (that's all you need to do).
so I don't have to unlocked it or do anything like that? It will work with my cingular SIM.

well, as long as you buy a unlocked one, then you will be fine. (it should be unlocked anyway, since at&t isn't offering the diamond.)
The unlocked ones are more expensive than the ones that are for sprint, isn’t and easy way to unlocked them by myself?

you can't use the one for Sprint on at&t, they use two totally different technologies, GSM vs. CDMA. so even if you buy the sprint one, you can't use it on at&t.
ok, thankyou everyone for your help!!!!! I guess I will have to save a bit more haha.

My HTC Touch diamond has never been recognized by HTC!!!

Quick story:
I bought it off dell.com like 2 years ago. I saw there was an update for it, so I went on HTC's website and put in my S/N. It said it didn't recognize it. I tried returning it to dell, but it was after the 15 day return period. So, I got screwed...and out of frustration I just cut my losses, forgot to put it on ebay, and threw it in the closet.
What should I do? I'm thinking about just installing a custom rom on it and throwing it to a friend but there are too many....any recommendations on what my next step should be?
Oh yea, to note, this is the GSM version of the HTC Touch Diamond. I've seen roms for the CDMA version...but not the GSM
I have a same issue but I always use custom rom therefore I don't care about it.
Is it a branded diamond?
The HTC site doesn't allow you to update branded Diamonds. For example, it doesn't recognize the S/N for my O2 branded Diamond.
Just put in a custom rom, they're much better than the official ones albeit more prone to bugs. Try different roms to see which you like best. Don't forget the flash the HARD SPL first.

normal ROMs are for GSM, if it says CDMA, then its for the CDMA.
Hi guys
I head the same problem during a support.
It is surely due to the fact that the mobile is "branded".

Should I get a One M7 - I travel overseas sometimes

I'm a bit confused after reading.
I have an account with Ting using an old iPhone 4 (3g). The iPhone was free so I figured I'd give it a shot. I do not like it.
I'd like to get a decent Android phone - I had a Thunderbolt, and through work I have a One X, so I have already invested in my favorite apps. But work phone is not for personal use so I need my own phone too. I like Titanium Backup so root would of course be needed.
I was thinking of the One M7 but - here is the actual question - I sometimes travel overseas, and would like to be able to pop in a SIM card and have hassle-free personal communications when in Europe or India, I'm not sure if this is possible with the One M7.
Or should I just buy a Nexus 5 and be done with it?
Your advice is greatly appreciated.
OK, with some more Google-fu I have answered my question (it could work).
Now I have to figure out if Sprint will SIM-unlock a used phone for me if I'm on Ting.

[UNLOCK] What to do now?

Hi everyone,
i got a Sprint HTC One M8 from ebay, it is new but i was planning to use it on AT&T network, since it have a Sim Card Slot. Furthermore, even though i'm living on the US now, i'm from Brazil and i was planning to use the phone there as well.
And now starts the problem.
I called the previous owner, asked him to contact sprint to make the sim unlock procedure. He did so, providing me the MSL for the phone. The next step, he said, was to "flash" the phone on AT&T in order to get it connected to their network. I tried several sims, even bought a new one and activated it but with no success.
I spend almost 2 hours on the phone with the sprint's international support, and all they said was that they did everything that they could about unlocking my phone and now i should contact AT&T.
I'm afraid of staying on this infinite loop and i want your opinion.
Does anyone in fact unlocked their SPRINT phone to use on another GSM US carrier? If yes, what did you do? Because i'm planning to return the phone and ask for my money back.
BUT, with the "International Unlock" i should be able to use the phone on ANY international carrier? Because if that is the case, maybe i keep the phone to use when i go back to Brazil.
Thank you very much!

On the CDMA version of the M8, it lacks the LTE bands needed for Domestic carriers. You can use it overseas somewhat, but not too well. If I was you, I'd grab a Droid Turbo for ~$200-$250 off eBay. It just recently got its bootloader unlocked finally

US Carrier Dual-Sim?

I know it's really early but i figured i'd put it out there.
Anybody know if the US Carrier's will allow and support Dual-Sim in their versions? I ask because i was hoping to use ATT's version to keep their Wifi Calling, HDVoice, etc as well as use Dual-Sim so i don't have to carry two phones around for work and personal.
I’m curious too.

No dual sim for US peeps. I hate it and do not understand why we can't have it.

Are you saying even the carrier unlocked us one won't have dual-sim... Damn
The color release is marketing and demand...they want to control the initial release. Sectioning colors to regions makes it easier to release...shortly after the high-demand release, we will probably see the other colors introduced. They have done this before with other devices. Sucks for those wanting to take advantage of pre-order deals. I wanted the deep blue but since it's going in a case, I got black and bought blue cases.
They don't sell dual in the US due to carrier pressure. Although slightly less so than a few years ago the vast majority of US phone sales are through carriers giving them the power to dictate product to some extent.
The U.S. Samsung web site is allowing pre-order of an unlocked variant; SM-N950UZVAXAA. The Best Buy web site shows this as a Snapdragon, dual-sim:
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsun...D=1&siteID=je6NUbpObpQ-05QPqugkIIKu.GTfe_wiOQ
I have asked Samsung support for verification as I need unlocked, dual sim.

Though I cannot say one way or the other that the Best Buy site has its description correct... been burned a few times relying on that data.
A chat with Samsung online states no dual Sim for US unlocked phones.
Info: Thank you for choosing to chat with us. An agent will be with you shortly.
Info: You are now chatting with Srilatha R.
Srilatha R: Hi, thank you for reaching out to Samsung Technical Support. How may I assist you?
You: Hi, I'm interested in purchasing your Note 8. I am considering the unlocked version as I have lines with Sprint and Verizon. Will the US version of the unlocked phone offer dual SIM capability so that I can use one device for both carriers?
Srilatha R: No, US version phones are compatible with single sim feature
You: That's a shame but thank you for confirming. Is there any way to get a version that offers the dual sim capability?
Srilatha R: No, Due to product design of the phone all the US version samsung phones are compatible with only single sim
You: Got it. Thank you.
Srilatha R: But you can try with international version phones
You: How would I purchase an international version?
Srilatha R: You can purchase it from third party websites such as amazon
You: Ok, that makes sense. I owned the Note 7 and am eligible for the trade-in credit. How would I purchase through Amazon and then still get the credit?
Srilatha R: Well, if you choose to trade in then , that can only be done by Samsung.
Srilatha R: As trade in offer is not eligible for other stores or websites
You: Ok, thank you for your help today
Why you want dual sim peopole.
Its hybrid which means your 200 gb sd card will not work with the second sim card. That is coming from a dual sim samsung user..
That's good to know. I didn't understand that to be the case - probably due to the desire to have one device that would support lines from two different carriers. That's a shame though - many of us have personal devices and work devices that would, in an ideal world, be combined into a single device with the majority of needs met.

That is my exact use case. Not really a fan of having to carry around two phones.

For average business user who do not need more than 64 gb of storage. The dual sim version will be a good choice.
Its hybrid sim thought meaning you chose either second sim or a an up to 256 gb sd card. You cannot use the 2nd sim with the sd card at same time.
You will have to order it from Amazon thought.
As a traveling person between 2 countries the dual sim is an advantage for me.

TL;DR - SM-N950UZKAXAA IS NOT DUAL SIM
Samsung Direct/USA or whatever you call it or whoever is being represented in Samsung.com/US has a listing during pre-ordering that the unlocked note 8 is dual sim. I even have a screenshot of that one.
However, same SKU - SM-N950UZKAXAA, is being sold in Best Buy. I did check both unlocked units in Black and Orchid Gray and as the store people have shown me, they aren't dual sim at all. Perhaps it was good riddance that the units are delayed in the shipping because I would be most likely returning that one eventually because there was some sort of deception on the item being sold. Now cancelled, perhaps I'll just get my Note 8 in few months time when the price is lower.
