Hey everyone,
So after dealing with Verizon tech support as well as htc's team, i'm turning to xda. I have found one other dead thread with no answers about my situation. Which htc want's me to send my phone to them for 10 days, or i can get a "like new" replacement from verizon, neither of those really work for me.
I bought my HTC one in November from Best Buy. The day i got it, i was able to update immediately to 4.2.2. Since then, 4.3 has rolled out, and 4.4 started rolling yesterday.
When i check for updates, I click Check New, it says checking, then the dialog box goes away. It doesn't say, "your device is up to date" or
"here is the latest software" It just disappears. I've even factory reset and still nothing.
Things you should know:
Completely stock, unrooted, no software modifications at all.
Please help!
thanks
Nick

unrooted you mean you removed root or you never rooted it?
Why don't you want to get a replacement one?
Never rooted. And I don't want a certified like new replacement. My phone is pretty much brand new. Perfect condition. Verizon's certified like new have been known to be less than stellar

well if you turned to XDA to repair it I guess your prepared to get s-off and unlock your bootloader to manually install the OTA updates ..

yes i'm prepared to do that. But that's just the issue, in the thread you linked me, verizon has blocked the method of getting s-off. i haven't found anything else successful. I'm very experienced in rooting motorola phones, just have never tried an htc, and here is incredibly different.

Ok I just got my IS and I am in America. I go to update and it says I am up to date. I see you can not root the S-on yet so i am stuck in 2.2.1. Also do you get OTA updates if you are in the US for this phone.
Use my downgrade guide, but dont use the version changer and use a goldcard, should've work.

I doubt it ...
Running unlocked on T-Mobile and AT&T and I bet we'll never get an OTA update... ever.
Quick Guide with S-on:
1, Download one of the official RUU rom (name comes with "signed")
2, Make a Goldcard - will take you 5-20 minutes computer work.
3, Run the RUU rom .exe, keep click next->next->next->..........

Has anybody actually managed to do this with a Bell IS, though? Mine is unlocked on AT&T, and I have yet to try it, because I haven't found anybody that's done it successfully. Most posts that I've seen say they get an error, that the goldcard method won't work on a Bell IS for some reason.

hi all,
i know that we can use gold card to update to the UK gingerbread rom from our s-on IS irregardless of the IS region (i.e. asia, hk, etc).
But can we use the gold card to downgrade back to 2.2 official firmware (e.g. 1.38.707.1)?
We are not dependant on T-Mobile USA for the updates, they have no way of tracking. Once HTC releases 2.3 we can download direct over data or WiFi

That's exactly right. The phone calls home to check for an update and uses whatever data network available to do so.
It is in no way, shape or form carrier tied.

I tend to believe you, but I had emailed HTC a few weeks ago asking about this exact topic. Here's their response:
With OTA software upgrades, it's a bit iffy. In some circumstances, update sofware is provided to local stores, who should be able to update the phone for you (policies on this differ from carrier to carrier, where some may be okay with updating an unlocked phone, and others won't).
Sometimes, a downloadable version can be found on our website for the phone in question:
http://www.htc.com/ca/support/incredibles-bell/downloads/
Each device has a specific address that it checks for its updates. Theoretically, the unlocking process shouldn't change that. Your device should still continue to recieve updates, however, it really depends on Bell's update policy when it comes to phones no longer on their network.

Hey guys, I just bought this phone yesterday from AT&T. Just out of the box I received an OTA update, which I thought was the KK update. But no, I am stuck on android 4.1.2 and Sense 5.0, and when I try to update, all I get is a message saying that everything is up to date and there are no updates available for me.
I am on the AT&T network at the time, and my phone is completely stock, no mod whatsoever. Any ideas what is going on????
You might want to exchange for a new unit or request for them to update, for all we know applying solutions suggested by us might just void the warranty instead.

+1 .. do it now!
Lets say I don't do S-Off (i don't really know what that is, my earlier phone was a crappy samsung) and I do the update with the RUU, will I be able to do S-Off later???
The thing is that i don't want to void the warranty. Coming from a really bad phone, where I had to mod EVERYTHING to get it working acceptably, I would really like to settle down and be stock for a while. Of course, that feeling will probably last a few months and then I will be flashing roms every 2 days lol.
If I flash the RUU manually, that doesn't void the warranty right? I mean, its an official firmware i suppose. On the other hand, if I can only do the S-Off thing right now, i might consider staying a while longer with 4.1.2 ... after all it is not so bad.

Mmm I think I'll start reading more before I make any decisions. Eventually I will root and install custom rims and kernels, so I'd like to keep my options open. If it's HARD but not impossible I might upgrade and stay stock.
Would you say there's a big difference between 4.1.2 / Sense 5.0 and 4.3 / Sense 5.5 ???
It's not that hard really.. i decided to s-off when im already running a KK rom. Firewater worked like a charm.

Until you get whelped..
I rooted my phone thinking it would benefit me, like it did on my EVO 3D, however i cannot have been more wrong. First off all the ROMS i tried (CM11, viper, insert coin,) had either a buzzing noise from the top speaker, or the WIFI didn't work. Second i cannot update the firmware using the OTA update. I download it then try to install and all that happens is it boots into TWRP. I just want to know if there is a way to get it back to normal like i just got the phone. I tried finding my Cid and doing the unlocker method, but i didn't find any Cid labeled spcs_004. Is there just an RUU i can run that will get my phone back on track with sprint? I have the Harmon Kardon model of the M8 BTW. Also i never updated my phone since i got it, so i'm on firmware no 1.54.xxx.xx (i don't know the rest of the numbers off hand).
Go to the thread in the link below. Download the 3.31.654.2 RUU to your computer. Connect your phone and computer via USB cable and boot your phone into Fastboot USB mode. Open up a command terminal with your ADB/Fastboot folder, then re-lock your bootloader using the command fastboot oem lock (unless you're S-off). Leave your phone and computer connected and from either Fastboot USB mode or while booted to the Android OS double-click the RUU to start the installer. Follow the prompts on your computer screen to install the RUU. For more info hit the second link in my sig and read the RUU section of that guide.

Okay so I did originally mess up rooting and flashing my HTC One m8 sprint edition. Since that day I succesfully (After 8 hours of horrible things) got it back to factory reset with the exception of S-off and the super cid. The thing is I dont want the super Cid because i DO want the OTA Update. The problem is I was a noob and forgot to save the original sprint CID number. So long story short. Does anyone have the Sprint CID number. Unless the Super CID number gets OTA updates for Stock. PLease and Thanks

Update to reset stock htc one m8
So after doing more research I found that the image that I grabbed for stock android came from a H/K Edition. In fact the phone identifies itself as the as the Harmon edition ( I got the RUU from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173) I was curious as you said that you yourself got OTA updates. Aside from lollipop, which updates did you receive. I only ask because I have heard of phones bricking up after doing an update and then something going wrong because they tampered with their tech. I DO want lollipop, but if it means losing my phone, then it is obviously not worth it.
ALSO looking at that website, I have verified that I got the NON-H/K edition....I am at a loss, I can try flashing it again, but honestly, I hate even looking at fastboot or any bootloader for the time being. Push comes to shove I will go down the rabbit hole again, but I do not want to risk a brick like before.
SIDENOTE: Not sure if its significant, but after flashing that RUU, I lost the weather widget at the top of blinkfeed, It only shows something such as "HIGHLIGHTS" If you would like I can post screen shots.
I am sorry to be such a noob and/or burden, and if you can help i would very much appreciate that if not, could you please direct me to a place where I could figure it out. Possibly a link or a person.
PLEASE AND THANKS!!!

I don't actually install the OTA I flash the previous version stock rom and download the OTA, then pull it from my phone so the devs can use it to build roms and pull the firmware.
It's pretty hard to brick these devices unless you do something really crazy. As long as you can get to recovery or bootloader it's only soft bricked meaning it can be saved.
I would suggest changing your CID back to stock
Code:
fastboot oem writecid SPCS_001
Then run the latest RUU that will put you where you need to be to take the OTA when it comes.

Thnx for your answer.
I haven't tried to upgrade firmware using Htc sync manager and i dont know if it's going to work tbh,but i think that they send me an unlocked device and not really an 'new one'.I have never seen something like that before on other smartphones running pure stock, only with custom roms.
The first Htc one that i bought there was running 4.4.2 out of the box,but this one with 4.2.2 with no chance to update forward Kitkat:nuts:.

Ive never seen it either except on custom rom's, did you send it to a HTC service centre or your network provider ? I would expect HTC to update your software for you, the software you have on there is very old now, post your fastboot getvar all without imei and serial number please, then we can see if its s-off, if it is then you can update to any RUU you like without unlocking.

ahh, the shop is a different story, probably jusy old stock, but doesnt explain the missing software update setting, that is very strange, when they gave you the replacement phone, was the box factory sealed still, I would check its not running something custom, that someone previous has messed with a returned to them, they may of had it fixed in-house and just stuck it back on the shelf.
My M7 isn't rooted, nor does it have any mods. It is and has always been 100% stock. Last week I received the OTA update to Lollipop and since then I'm experiencing a lot of problems (like so many others). But even without the problems, I just don't like Lollipop. I don't like the new notifications, I don't like the new toggles, etc. So I would like to go back to KitKat. I have found a few tutorials but all assume your M7 isn't stock. And like I said, mine is.
A few questions:
Does the fact that my M7 is still 100% stock make reverting to KitKat easier?
It's been many years since I last flashed my phone (it was a HD2) so I really don't remember what's involved. I do remember however I need the proper RUU. How do I find out which RUU I need (I'm in the Netherlands)?
Are there any tutorials that explain how to go from stock Lollipop to stock KitKat?
If these questions have been answered a thousand times before, I apologize. I just couldn't find those answers then.

should really post this in the help and support section.
but if you are 100% pure stock then the only way you can back flash is to get s-off first, and that will cost you $25 using sunshine s-off tool, there is no other way to backflash.
also if you do decide to get s-off and go back to kitkat, your phone will constantly nagg you and give you notifications about the Lollipop update.

Sunshine as far as I know is the only way to s-off HBOOT 1.61, 1.60, and 1.57, unless you have used it before, then its free to s-off the same device again, you only ever pay once.
and @Zippy1970 will be on 1.61 HBOOT as he has the official 100% stock update.
