[Q] AT&T OTA Not working - Stock - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I just bought this phone yesterday from AT&T. Just out of the box I received an OTA update, which I thought was the KK update. But no, I am stuck on android 4.1.2 and Sense 5.0, and when I try to update, all I get is a message saying that everything is up to date and there are no updates available for me.
I am on the AT&T network at the time, and my phone is completely stock, no mod whatsoever. Any ideas what is going on????

You might want to exchange for a new unit or request for them to update, for all we know applying solutions suggested by us might just void the warranty instead.

use this RUU to get to 4.3 >> http://androidruu.com/getdownload.p...13_10.38j.1157.04_release_334235_signed_2.exe
you need locked / relocked bootloader
being your on 4.1.2 now would be a great time to get s-off before doing the ruu update. check this guide for getting s-off

+1 .. do it now!

Lets say I don't do S-Off (i don't really know what that is, my earlier phone was a crappy samsung) and I do the update with the RUU, will I be able to do S-Off later???
The thing is that i don't want to void the warranty. Coming from a really bad phone, where I had to mod EVERYTHING to get it working acceptably, I would really like to settle down and be stock for a while. Of course, that feeling will probably last a few months and then I will be flashing roms every 2 days lol.
If I flash the RUU manually, that doesn't void the warranty right? I mean, its an official firmware i suppose. On the other hand, if I can only do the S-Off thing right now, i might consider staying a while longer with 4.1.2 ... after all it is not so bad.

Yes it is HARDER to do S-OFF on later updates.

Mmm I think I'll start reading more before I make any decisions. Eventually I will root and install custom rims and kernels, so I'd like to keep my options open. If it's HARD but not impossible I might upgrade and stay stock.
Would you say there's a big difference between 4.1.2 / Sense 5.0 and 4.3 / Sense 5.5 ???

It's not that hard really.. i decided to s-off when im already running a KK rom. Firewater worked like a charm.

Gain S-Off now, and forever be happy. I never cared about OTA when I had that phone, I could run any RUU I wanted to, I changed from ATT to Dev, to GPE and back so many times. Just awesome.

[Q] Changing MID and CID to Taiwan HTC One

I have HTC One from Three UK, I got S-off, Super CID 11111111, currently on viper One, wondering if anyone tried changing there MID and CID and work out way to get taiwanees 2.24 update, now I dont want people saying do this do that, please I want to know who actually done this successfully. I agree with you, Just wanted to get earliest updates, one more thing with that update HTC has already taking out all the reasons of custom rom for me!!
and one more thing it will flash the firmware, and there would be stability, i am becoming more of flashoholic with the phone all the time in recovery!!:laugh:
I have done it so I could get ota from dev edition, changing the cid is easy however changing the mid is not. You must flash engineering hboot and add some changes using android sdk command prompt. If your interested let me know, however you can easily update your firmware and Rom pretty easy and most developers are only a couple days behind an update, plus they are much improved from what HTC original Rom. I would wait the couple day and flash the Rom and if your concerned about firmware there are many threads on xda that are pretty much noob proof! Good luck

[Q] Noob alert! Can anyone explain what S-off is?

I want to update my HTC one to 4.2.2 but mine is the US variant (HTC_001 and not locked to any carrier) so I guess it will be a while before the update goes OTA??
Anywho, I understand that there is away to change the MID to get OTA from UK (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2322820)
But it says that I require "s-off".
Can you be kind enough to explain what it is and how I can get it?

S-off means security off.
There are certain partitions in the phone which contain the firmware, drivers, etc which are protected with s-on (security on). The reason for this is that if incorrect data is written to these areas your phone can become a permanent brick.
Obtaining s-off is a relatively easy process but can be risky if you don't know what you are doing.
My suggestion to you if you don't know what s-off is is to research and then some more and be familiar with the benefits vs risks.
In my signature below is a guide by vomer which provides details and links to the various processes you have to go through.

Thank you.
I looked into it, and the whole process is a very arduous task. You have to unlock the bootloader, then root it, then s off, then use that tutorial to change the MID.
I think there is too much risks given my knowledge of android hacking.
I guess ill just have to wait for OTA for the US variant.

Why wait for an ota update when you could just unlock the bootloader, install a custom recovery, and install something like ARHD 12.0 which is rock stable and is way more faster than the stock rom.

Hmmm well I prefer the Stock 4.2.2 with sense 5. And since mine is USA variant so the only way to get it will be to change the MID. so thats unlock the bootloader, then root it, then s off, then use that tutorial to change the MID.

Personally, I always trade or sell phones in the condition I got mine in. I would go through the steps to S-ON, unroot, etc. Let me know if you need any help on doing any of that. Easiest way would be to flash the 1.29 RUU, reroot, S-ON (and maybe get rid of the tampered), then reflash the 1.29 RUU again. You should be back to complete stock. He can do the OTA upgrades himself.

Just give it to him s-off and rooted, he then had the option to stay s-off or go stock then.

i have traded many rooted devices. 9 times out of 10 if u try to tell people it is rooted they don't know what the hell u are talking about. this guy being a sprint person he probably does but just because he works for sprint doesn't mean he does. when i sell or trade a rooted device all i do is load the 100 percent stock rom on there and don't even mention it is rooted. to directly answer your question, i would put stock rooted rom with no extras on there and hand it over. i don't know why everyone is sooo afraid sprint finding rooted phones. as long as u r running stock software builds i have never had any problems. i have even exchanged rooted devices and turned in rooted devices for credit on my new phone.
I'd let him know and tell him you can set it back to stock for him if he'd like. Do him a favor though, don't go S-ON. Chances are he'll take as is though.
He's going to know its rooted even if you dont tell him.. They arent stupid

Some guys are there just because its a job, others they have a passion for mobile tech. I'd just tell him its rooted, if he don't know what that means then it won't matter. If he does then one less thing hell have to do as far as the hassle of unlocking and s-off is concerned.
Always sell things the easiest way for everything to be done universally. For example, if you keep S-Off the person buying it in the end can easily place the Sec Flag back to on even without root, relock OR keep it unlocked, I am not picky about Sec Flag but bootloader being unlocked I am. So might as well keep S-Off because it isn't going to take away the ability to root or accept an OTA but WILL give the End User the ability to downgrade if they do root 4.3 and wants to go back to unrooted properly. S-Off and Unlocked will both still get OTAs easily. No matter what you do, go ahead and run the RUU to bring it back to bone stock abd accept all OTAs to get to 4.3 for them then do an FDR and give it to them with S-Off so they can downgrade if they want to.

What will an update do?

HTC One M8 - I rooted my phone, installed TWRP, S-OFF, and Titanium Backup to get rid of bloatware.
Let's say an update comes through some day from HTC for something.. should I accept it? Or what about if one day we get a newer version of Android update such as 4.5 Lollipop or whatever the next is going to be? Should I accept it?
I will have to re-root/s-off after that or what?
If you are rooted and S-OFF you should never take an OTA update this could brick your phone or damage it. Just for personal knowledge, with my rooted/S-off M8 I accidentally took an OTA update and without reading said yes to the install. My phone restarted but would not load the updater, and then powered itself off. I dodged a bullet on that one. Anyway if you are worried about getting updates the developers here at XDA usually have rooted, S-OFF safe, ROMs that can be flashed in TWRP which give you all the goodies while maintaining your root/s-off status.

My bootloader's unlocked and I'm S-Off. I took the OTA from the settings option on the Harman/Kardon RUU and never bricked.
OP, your bootloader and S-Off status will be unchanged when taking an OTA. However, I think most people would tell you to just flash the OTA in stock recovery or fastboot.
Since you are s-off there is never a need to take an OTA.

To add, it should not brick you phone with s-off.
you probably have to reinstall recovery and reflash a rooted rom.
Can anyone help explain this to me? I believe I had took the OTA update(with the Extreme Power Saver) but then I rooted/s-offed with no problem...In this case, was there anything I needed to do? I just assumed everything was working so it was ok.

I did the same. All you need to do now is install a custom recovery, but it's not required. You can still still run Stock Rooted like you are now and take all OTA's if you don't want to run a custom ROM. Just remember: OTAs and RUUs won't change your S-Off status.

Thanks for clarifying! :highfive: TWRP was installed along with the root so I guess I'm set to go!
Thanks. I'm happily running ViperROM 1.6.0 and it works great. You're right. No need to take OTA updates. Uses a little more battery than stock, but no problem. I just worry if I take a trip somewhere because I have no car charger.

Want to go back from 100% stock Lollipop to 100% stock KitKat

My M7 isn't rooted, nor does it have any mods. It is and has always been 100% stock. Last week I received the OTA update to Lollipop and since then I'm experiencing a lot of problems (like so many others). But even without the problems, I just don't like Lollipop. I don't like the new notifications, I don't like the new toggles, etc. So I would like to go back to KitKat. I have found a few tutorials but all assume your M7 isn't stock. And like I said, mine is.
A few questions:
Does the fact that my M7 is still 100% stock make reverting to KitKat easier?
It's been many years since I last flashed my phone (it was a HD2) so I really don't remember what's involved. I do remember however I need the proper RUU. How do I find out which RUU I need (I'm in the Netherlands)?
Are there any tutorials that explain how to go from stock Lollipop to stock KitKat?
If these questions have been answered a thousand times before, I apologize. I just couldn't find those answers then.

should really post this in the help and support section.
but if you are 100% pure stock then the only way you can back flash is to get s-off first, and that will cost you $25 using sunshine s-off tool, there is no other way to backflash.
also if you do decide to get s-off and go back to kitkat, your phone will constantly nagg you and give you notifications about the Lollipop update.

PS. I like the new Lollipop UI. But, power management is something that makes me think of rolling back to KitKat, too. I'm rooted and s-off, though.

Sunshine as far as I know is the only way to s-off HBOOT 1.61, 1.60, and 1.57, unless you have used it before, then its free to s-off the same device again, you only ever pay once.
and @Zippy1970 will be on 1.61 HBOOT as he has the official 100% stock update.
