Hey there,
I'm on a rooted xperia stock ROM (4.3). I use no task killer. All of my open apps seem to randomly close from time to time when minimized. Switchr, setcpu etc. That should run in the background just randomly close.
Any ideas what may cause this? Thanks in advance!
Yes, it's a Ram issue related. Probably you are on .290 and on that FW this is a known problem when you try to go back to the application from multitasking menu. A Ram problem was fixed on .136, this is what many users reported but I am not sure. What i know there is no any solution at the moment.
Thanks a lot this explains it. I'll flash a newer rom then.

This problem still exists on .136

I recently bought an SP and I love it except for the ff problems i've encountered so far:
- Walkman app, stops playing after a while, specifically when I'm multitasking. Walkman + Instagram etc.
- Swiftkey Keyboard sometimes doesn't show. Needs to re enable at Language and Input section.
- Poor VGA front cam. (which I'm aware of, prior to buying this device, so it's ok)
Basically, upon researching, SP somehow have poor RAM management and kills apps when RAM is somehow low. I wish we could define apps that SP won't kill, and it'll be fine!
Yes ram management is really bad in SP.. Someone will say free RAM is waste RAM.. But thats not true in my experience.. If u have low ram means ur running apps will close automatically... So free ram is not waste ram at always
Just try to root ur SP and freez some unwanted apps
Can you unlock the bootloader? Try CyanogenMod
Yeah in cm based roms we get a ram of 841 mb and in stock based roms only 766mb

I'm not talking about how much RAM does it say it has, Its about how it is managed.
Yep. CM based roms will giv better ram management and performance than Stock based rom.. If u dont care about the beauty of the Stock or stock based custom roms means try CM
Browsing heavy sites in xperia sp is Big pain specially when you will need keyboard It will never come up.

The keyboard disappearing seems to be another bug Sony need to fix, as this happens even with the stock one, sometimes
Hope the 4.3 update fixes this and the lockscreen bug, plus better ram management

I think that the Ram management will be fixed only in 4.4 update kitkat as It is optimized For less Ram also.
And maybe wakeup bug will be fixed in coming 4.3

It's funny that of all the apps that can be forced close, it chosed Walkman and Keyboard. I'm ok if they forced close Facebook and Chrome all they want but the first two. lol

No, it can be fixed already in 4.3. This problem is not due to android version but to Sony developers mistakes. It seems they have forgotten to make some apps like keyboard or music unkillable. The problem never happens on any jelly bean Rom without Sony UI.

Actually they are force closed too but you don't really see it. Android kills background apps to free memory for foreground app. Music and keyboard are special apps that you also use when they are in background ( keyboard seems foreground but I think it's just an illusion, the real foreground app is the one you are writing in) and that's why we notice it and it's annoying.
You can notice that Facebook or chrome are also killed in background because when you switch app and come back to them they have to reload, they are not at the state they were when you left them (most of the time for heavy apps).

Greetings
i have been a longtime browser of the site but this is my first post
I have a problem with stamina mode not working due to google search, i have white listed google search and it doesn't make any difference, i have tried disabling but then i cant use google now at all, and if i try uninstalling updates it just ends up re installing them
I did a forum search and couldn't find any posts about the problem
I'm running stock and unrooted with the latest firmware if that helps
Wondered if anybody had any suggestions or the same problem
many thanks
Stamina sometimes don't want work correctly. Also the google location services drains a lot of battery! That is the reason why i am not using google now

I'm stuck on deciding what to do next.
I'm having issues playing Injustice on my SP on the stock Rom. It randomly pauses or closes fully back to home while playing. I have 3 options I think; Do I tweak this Rom with supercharger script or something. Or do I install a custom Rom like eXistenZ and hope that performs better. Or do I just wait for official 4.3 update and then hope memory management is better?
What would you guys suggest? I'm still new to my Xperia SP.

If I were you, I would wait for the android 4.3 and If the ram management sucks too I would go for cyanogenmod.
Go to CM 11, the best choice you have!
The thing that's putting me off CM is the loss of Sony stuff like stamina mode and im guessing no walkman and gallery light effects.
I like all the little gimmicks haha

thats the only reason i got a launcher instead
I think I'm going to try a script to maybe sort out memory management, and then when 4.3 comes, I'll remove the tweaks, relock bootloader and then install the new official update. When that will come is another story
Gonna keep watching the thread in general about the update

How many people are having the speaker phone issue where it automatically turns on when making or receiving calls? And has any one found a fix? I'm wondering if it's hardware or software issue. And does any one that had the issue flash a rom that got rid of the issue?

I have the issue too. No clue how to fix it.

Yeah I think it only happened to me once and I think it was because my cheek pressed the button

I only get it if I end a call on speaker phone. When I get another call, the speaker phone is on by default.

Thanks guys. I'm not sure if it's a hardware issue or software. I see this issue is huge on allot of HTC phones.
I did do a factory reset then i recalibrated sensor. Seemed to slow it down now it only turns speaker phone on once in a while instead of every time.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
I have this issue also. Completely Stock. Started after the 4.4 KitKat OTA from Sprint. Sometimes it seems the mute button will activate as well, but 1 out of ~15 calls it mainly goes on speakerphone, completely random for me.
It's a problem with the KitKat update. There are several threads on this. Even other phones seem to have it. No solution so far

Downgrading back seemed to work for a little while but it's still doing it and I'm not even on KK.
This is a verified issue with audio code in versions of Chrome from Feb 28 on.
Phone will function normally until Chrome is run and vice versa.
Reboot phone - make/accept call, all is well.
Run Chrome - make/accept call, lol speakerphone.
And on phones with separate media and earpiece speakers...
Reboot phone - visit website with audio, plays from main speaker normally.
Make/accept phone call - return to Chrome and try a site with audio, lol...plays from earpiece.
Workaround for now is to revert to Chrome from BEFORE 2/28 update and disable automatic updating.
Where do I find a chrome apk pre 2-28?

I suppose one easy way would be to just grab it from the SVN trunk of a ROM that hasn't updated the app since before the update...InsertCoin for example includes a chrome apk under /data/app that was pushed to svn on 2/26
You don't need to install svn or anything, just browse to the appropriate folder, click the desired file, and use the "view raw file" link to download the individual item.
I couldn't believe chrome was able to distroy so many things. First the stupid overlapping and now this?? I found a link to 32.0.1700.99 released in the end of january. Hopefully it fixed the issue http://www.devfiles.co/download/HZbWUeks/ChromeBrowser-32.apk

Working great for me so far. thanks guys...
It seems that today's Chrome update (v33.0.1750.166) fixes the issue. Here's a link to the actual fix revision.
Edit: I got the update from the Play Store in case that was unclear.
So I tried installing the chrome update, did not fix it, it turns out the modaco toolkit update fixed it
At least according to my testing
Also I did not have chrome until I installed it to try to fix the issue
