Battery drain with wifi ON - LG Optimus 4X HD

I have enormous battery drain when wifi is ON, also when the screen is off and the phone is in deep sleep. I lose about 6% of battery without touching the phone. Tried different combinations of roms and kernels but nothing changed, how's it possible?

You have to check for the apps which are using wifi while it's on. Some apps, like Facebook, whatsapp, hangout, and many others stay on the background searching for Internet connection.. Another problem could be related to synchronization, do you turn it off when it isn't necessary?
Sent from my LG-P880 - Beanstalk 4.4.2 - Iodak 9.95 kernel - using xda app-developers app

Also, check in wifi - advanced - wifi scanning always available. And make sure it's off (on KitKat roms)

Maybe the fact that you actually played with the kernels so much, determined it to drain so fast. Go back to the stock kernel and you'll see the difference .

I already tried all different kernel and roms combinations (stock, iodak ect.), synchroniz is disactivated. I also tried to unistall whatsapp and all messagging app and ibernated apps using wifi with greenefy. wifi scanning is ever OFF . At this point I don't know what I do, I tried everything

Try an app like Networklog to pinpoint the apps using your WiFi

Try this: uninstall trickster, or the different app you're using to set kernel values, then reboot the phone (it will boot with default kernel settings).. After that, reinstall trickster, then set your custom values..make sure you're using cubic as tcp congestion algorithm, (Westwood assures smoother data transfer, but it drains battery faster, especially while you're using mobile data, in my opinion..)

If you are on stock rom then DONT set "keep wifi during sleep - never, when screen is off,set it to alwayse since sometimes this command get stuck and will reproduce know wifi delay on sleep wakelock.

I do have exactly the same problem. Using CM stable 10.1.2 with default CM kernel.
Deep sleep is fine when Wifi is on (no wlan_rx_wake issues) but nevertheless it is draining like 7-8% per hour when Wifi is on...

Hey,
just like u i have the same troubles, the battery drain was the main reason to root and start with custom rome.
For sure some rom gave me better battery but finally i figure out that wifi has bigger battery consumption than 3G alone.
So i use wifi for big downloads or if theres no data network.
In normal use (music, internet, mail...) i never reach one day without charge d the phone.
ATM, am under the latest beanstalk ROM, wich is quite good, with wifi off last night, i've lost only 2% battery
U can also try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ijinshan.kbatterydoctor_en&hl=fr
It was working quit good under 4.3 rome like slimbean or vanir i haven't tried under kikat based ones
Hope it helps

Try CM nightlies, I'm currently using CM11 with it's kernel and no problem, wifi on all time with 1 Gmail and 2 exchanges.

I have already tried CM11 nightlies. But GPS is not working for me. It simply does not fix.

[Q] Going to sleep problems on MIUI rom (maybe GOT 2.2.1 kernel?)

Don't know if it's a known problem, I'm with Miui milestine since 19.11 ver.
at first have a battery issue, had a little research and find out how to check if phone sleeps when locked. from then and on, I noticed phone sometimes won't go to sleep (after discconecting from charger, after playing with 3g, WIFI, GPS on/off)
soultion from me right now is playing with 3g, WIFI, GPS on/off,
when phones goes to sleeps battery is good, but I had enough turning 3g off check battery stats. lock the phone, open it, check again etc..
Does anyone know about the problem?
Soultion?
I'm running currently MIUI 31.12 on GOT 2.2.1 kernel (ITALY_WIND)
On these unofficial ROMs, batt life is always an issue. I'm using GOT 2.2.1 and have to turn off data and wifi if I want my charge to last over 24 hrs.

So I'm guessing its unofficial rom problem?
Hoping for official rom soon...

Strange problem with my note

Hi
Im running rooted note with darky rom 3.3 and franco's test kernal with no probs up to about two days ago. Now for no reason I can see battery life has dropped drastically and some of my installed apps either do not open at all or some open then just fc. I haven"t installed any new apps in past several days. Checking batt stats it tells me the note is nearly constantly awake with with wifi awake aswell but shows no app or process including wakelocks running that can account for this. Has anyone have any idea what could be causing this and hopefuly a fix.
Thanks
Ingott

BetterBatteryStats or Badass Battery Monitor will help you pinpoint the app/process causing wakelocks and thus preventing your Note from going to sleep.
Have checked with betterbattstats and no app is running causing this problem. I have wifi set to on only when screen is on but wifi is constantly awake this is causlng batt drain I believe. Also my installed apps no longer work they fc and some dont even start. Since my last post I have reinstalled darky rom and franco kernal but still getting the same problems.

I have the same wifi problem !
I have rocket rom V23 and abyss kernel 4.2
BBS shows no wake lock and kernel wake lock but when the wifi is connected the phone wont go to sleep and its awake and drain battery !
if I turn off the wifi it will sleep and battery drain will decrease to 0.4-0.5 % per hour.
my wifi policy is set to sleep when screen is off but when i turn off screen the wifi is still awake and i can see it connected in my router lan page and also I can ping it too.
any one has any idea ?
I have found the 'sleep while screen is off' to be very poor. I now use Llama to turn the WiFi off 1 minute after the screen turns off (in case I forget something and go back), and turn it on when the screen comes on, but only if I am at the Home or Work locations. It now works exactly as I want.

thanks for your suggestion.
I just found Batteryfu very useful for NOW !!!
it has good options for wifi and mobile data, also has options for night mode, screen on, screen lock/unlock, while charging ,...
will test it for a day or 2 and will post my observations .
Thanks for all the replies..
I have found what works for me. I wiped kernal using jBroid then installed a different kernal to what I had installed rebooted a couple of times. I then wiped again using jBroid then re-installed my originall kernal again. This solved my problems. Suspect kernal got corrupted somehow then the wipe and overwrite sorted it out. Thanks to darky rom dev robbie hood for the heads up on this.
ingott
And my problem went away just by restarting my note.

Deep sleep issues on all roms?

So far with testing battery on all roms, including stock, the phone hardly ever goes into deep sleep. Here is what I have so far on bell stock with arrrgh's kernel.
All roms seem to have the wake spasms.

Do you use Facebook or social media apps? They're known for keeping phones from entering deep sleep. I could speculate more, but only because there are quite a few apps out there that can give the problems you're having. Usually ad heavy apps.
PAC, with just the rom and gapps, has no issues with deep sleep. Carbon didn't either. Wasn't on carbon for very long, but the stats reflected my screen off times. I'd post a screenshot, but its been on the charger since boot, and they don't deep sleep when charging.
I do but I honestly expected smart actions' data limit to prevent that. Would turning their sync off fix that?
Edit: just tried disabling Facebook sync and still have wake spasm.
Edit 2: just bought better battery stats and over a 1 hour 43 minute period, 46% was deep sleep. What does the awake bar in battery stats in settings mean then?

[Q] Severe battery drain / gpsd running wild?

On some occasions (about twice a week) I have a dramatic battery drain on my Note. It discharges faster than USB/pluged charger provides power, even in airplane-mode. After rebooting everything is fine again... for a few days. Manually killing the process "gpsd" cures this behaviour as well.
As reported by BetterBatteryStats I could not detect any unusual wakelocks... or am I reading it wrong?
This did not oocure before I switched from Paranoid Android 2.57 (JB 4.1.2) to StuNNeR 2 (JB 4.2.2).
However, I'm not allowed to post in the dev-thread for the rom.
According to quite a few reports I read about anything similar (esp. for S3), this issue should be fixed since JB 4.2.0... so either I didn't understand the circumstances (quite probably) or this is something completely different.
What can I do about this? Constantly checking battery charge and/or CPU usage is hardly an option :/
Interesting! Does your phone lag when battery drains, do you have wifi connection issues?
I'm suffering from battery drains and wifi issue. I will check what "top" would show and update you. I'm on sweet rom v10 by the way.

Wifi is usually fine.
Lags sometimes occur, but I'm not sure if they are connectet to the battery drain. I had the impression they happen mostly when the phone switches from wifi to 3G or vice versa.

None that I'm aware of
The only ones that come to mind are Maps/Navigation, Ingress and Facebook. Neither should have been active during these hours.
Is there a way to monitor which app could cause gpsd to use 50% CPU for hours?
For now I'll try swiching off "Wi-Fi & mobile network location" in Location Settings and wait if it happens again...

Could be location history and location reporting that run automaticaly on the background. It happened a few times with me. Mainly when i force closed my camera app when it was trying to geo tag mt photos. Then the GPS would keep trying to get my location even tough i wasn't using the app anymore.
Some people say that GPSD has nothing to do with gps positioning, but i don't know.

Mackay Rom battery

Welcome guys
Does anyone know what's the best kernel for increasing battery life time
thnx all
you can increase battery life in every kernel. Under clock your cpu or change the governor. There are few apps for this, best for me is set cpu

I'm using mackay kernel and my governor is ondemandX
But under clocking will make the phone too slow (which I cannot get used to)
but in some roms like v30B ICS and I remember cm7 and Zeus
the whole night(wifi off / mobile data off / GPS off / Bluetooth off) just connected to network and it may consumes only 2%-3%
So is there any thing to do with Macaky rom/kernel
thnx
from 85% to 18% in just 6 Hours wifi on but not connected and screen off and everything else was off
I think this is huge now I will try BBS

Set wifi to off, when screen is off, also I really recommend Greenify, this saves a lot of juice, if you freeze the right apps
Sent from my LG-P760 using xda app-developers app
I also strongly recommend Greenify.
I have purchased the paid version and have most of the apps (including system ones) greenified. Battery life significantly improved and no problem with receiving messages etc.
I use "Better wifi on/off" as well, to automatically turn wifi off when my home network is not connected.
I would also advise switching automatic sync off. That's the culprit of battery drain for my OB.
Hope these helps.
Hi, all CM 10/CM10.1 roms seems to be more battery draining.
