Hi
Im running rooted note with darky rom 3.3 and franco's test kernal with no probs up to about two days ago. Now for no reason I can see battery life has dropped drastically and some of my installed apps either do not open at all or some open then just fc. I haven"t installed any new apps in past several days. Checking batt stats it tells me the note is nearly constantly awake with with wifi awake aswell but shows no app or process including wakelocks running that can account for this. Has anyone have any idea what could be causing this and hopefuly a fix.
Thanks
Ingott

BetterBatteryStats or Badass Battery Monitor will help you pinpoint the app/process causing wakelocks and thus preventing your Note from going to sleep.
Have checked with betterbattstats and no app is running causing this problem. I have wifi set to on only when screen is on but wifi is constantly awake this is causlng batt drain I believe. Also my installed apps no longer work they fc and some dont even start. Since my last post I have reinstalled darky rom and franco kernal but still getting the same problems.

I have the same wifi problem !
I have rocket rom V23 and abyss kernel 4.2
BBS shows no wake lock and kernel wake lock but when the wifi is connected the phone wont go to sleep and its awake and drain battery !
if I turn off the wifi it will sleep and battery drain will decrease to 0.4-0.5 % per hour.
my wifi policy is set to sleep when screen is off but when i turn off screen the wifi is still awake and i can see it connected in my router lan page and also I can ping it too.
any one has any idea ?
I have found the 'sleep while screen is off' to be very poor. I now use Llama to turn the WiFi off 1 minute after the screen turns off (in case I forget something and go back), and turn it on when the screen comes on, but only if I am at the Home or Work locations. It now works exactly as I want.

thanks for your suggestion.
I just found Batteryfu very useful for NOW !!!
it has good options for wifi and mobile data, also has options for night mode, screen on, screen lock/unlock, while charging ,...
will test it for a day or 2 and will post my observations .
Thanks for all the replies..
I have found what works for me. I wiped kernal using jBroid then installed a different kernal to what I had installed rebooted a couple of times. I then wiped again using jBroid then re-installed my originall kernal again. This solved my problems. Suspect kernal got corrupted somehow then the wipe and overwrite sorted it out. Thanks to darky rom dev robbie hood for the heads up on this.

And my problem went away just by restarting my note.

Hey guys,
the day before yesterday i flashed Darky's 9.5 on my phone.
This is the first Darkys version for me. The flashing was fine and very easy but then i got big problem regarding the Wlan battery use.
First i tell you how i flashed Darkys, perhaps i did a failure here.
1) First i flashed Darkys Reserrection Version on my phone
2) After that i configured the Darkys App from the market and flashed the reserrection.zip with CWM
3) At the end i flashed Darky's 9.5 with CWM
Now the points regarding my problem.
Yesterday night i switch off my phone with at least 85% battery. I switched off GPS,Bluetooth and i deactivated the data transfer mode for UMTS. But it was my intention to test the battery drain with active WLAN, because with the original T-Mobile Firmware the phone uses circa 25% battery a night.
But when i woke up i was really shocked. My phone turned off and the battery was complete empty. In this night the battery drained 85%. How is this possible? There were no apps running excepting the Advanced Task Killer.
Did i something wrong? (When i flashed the battery was fully charged)!!
//edit
Here are my settings:
PDA: I9000XWJS8
Phone: I9000XXJVE
CSC: I9000XXJS1
Kernel: DarkCore 1.0
I wouldn't think this was a common issue. Have you tried just re-flashing the ROM again via CWM? Maybe try the same thing again?
Thx for your answer.
Yeah i even think that it's not a common issue.
I will watch the battery this night. If the bug occurs again, i will flash the Rom with CWM again. Have i to disable the lagfix or can i do it on the fly without changing something in the current system ? If yes, where?
my battery is the best its been in a long while since using this rom so i wouldnt dismiss it just yet. what modem are u using?
I use the modem Darky's App Configurator has recommend (JQ1 but i have read that JVE is flashed (se my settings above)). But i think I will try flashing again. This night the battery drops from 100% to 47% with the same settings I mentioned above. Then i watched the battery usage, but they were strange.
Wifi and "Wifi using" uses 100% cause they were running the whole time. But the category "execution" used 75%, so the phone did not drop into sleep mode for about 75% of the whole night? How is this possible? I checked all my 3rd party apps I installed on my own and they don't have a setting to manage this.
Does one app of Darky's Configurator do this?
Well Darky can answer question best .
Me i blame the rom change the rom .
jje
Now i flashed Darkys 9.5 with wipe again.I will watch the battery drain and I will notify you about the result.
//edit
Now I go asleep and I will report tomorrow if the flash was successfull. But I got one question left:
By accident I saw in the wireless setting window that my phone scans every 5 seconds for new devices, even if its connected to my own router. (If the phone goes to standby the WLAN does not scan cause of my settings). But why das it scan every 5 or 6 seconds, even if it's connected to my own device?? Is it possible to increment the scan time?
Good morning guys,
here is my update:
I think the reflash worked. Last night my phone uses 10% battery with wifi and data transfer on, gps and bluetooth off. I think this is a good value.
By using the flightmode the next times I will save some more
Now there is the question left regarding the number of wifi scanns. (see the post above). Is it modifiable ?

If you don't mind me asking: what modem do you use? And how long does your battery usually last for?
Thanks

Did you recalibrate your battery after upgrading to Darky's 9.5?
It is recommended that u recalibrate your battery when you flash a new ROM.
You shoukd recalibrate your battery, i.e. drain it, turn off your phone and fully charge it, completely drain it (use it heavily). Then charge it again and voila, recalibrated!
Also, I find that after flashing a new ROM the battery drains really quick the first 2 times I charge it, before actually working as it should. So it's not that strange that your phones battery was dead in the morning. But I think this also has to do with recalibrating the battery.
Darkys v9.5 has a battery life of 3-4 days for me (not heavy usage) so it should be better after recalibrating your battery!

I have a problem with my Milestone - it's getting incredibly hot and the battery is draining from completely charged to device shutting itself off in few hours.
I have installed the latest CyanogenMod 7.2.0 RC1 +gapps, wiped everything (data, caches, dalvik) and only logged in with a google account. There are no more apps installed, everything is in stock condition. Memory card is basically empty. I've tried everything - rebooting, wiping everything clean, yet the phone is still running incredibly hot. Even on stock CM7 without any apps installed, the phone is getting hot.
Attaching logcat dumps:
http://pastebin.com/7Qg5TPBL from yesterday (100% charge)
http://pastebin.com/8s4ut5wY from this morning (phone died during the night and I'm charging it) -- Wi-Fi and Data are turned off.
http://pastebin.com/7q11siSD from now - for few hours on idle the battery was down to 60%.
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you.
Switch to 2g or turn off data. Until I can see the log. Some app is persistent on using the Internet connection, I had that but I was really annoyed and uninstalled a lot of applications, and didn't quite know which is responsible but i suspect it was Facebook.

Hello.
The phone is in completely wiped condition - no apps are installed, only those that ship with kabaldan's CM7. Data is turned off, not quite sure about 3G.
I edited the OP with working links, it should be okay now.
Thank you for helping!
Another update - the phone does not enter Deep Sleep mode. Since the previous post, the phone has been 8 hours on 250MHz, 1 hour on 400MHz, 31 mins on 1GHz and 11 mins on Deep Sleep, according to CPU Spy. Could it be related?
Check Battery usage graph
Go to Settings -> About Phone -> Battery Use.
Check the battery graph. If you see a sharp drop somewhere, then it might be that your phone's battery is in disrepair. The original battery on my milestone drops from ~70% to 40% within a second and then again drops to 19% in a few hours. The spare battery that I have works well.
Normally when my phone was hot, it was because of the 3g or some app open in background, restart it and enable Airplane mode, if it still hot after a while with the screen off, them try another rom.
If it continues try installing the stock rom with an .sbf and try again.
If it continues, try finding another battery to try, some motorla phones like the dext have the same battery.
If it continues, I dont know, buy a new phone
Go into OR, fufu recommended, and hit fix permissions.
Sorry don't have much time to study your log. This is one of the problem I saw this morning at 5 30 in 10 minutes of reading, it has some permission problems among others or try a reflash (and wipe ext partition also ) .
Post another log after fix if you do this to see if are any changes.
I saw another one also but don't remember now, busy day.

To be honest, I've never looked through a logcat log before, but I'm seeing a bunch of these in yours:
D/SntpClient( 2091): request time failed: java.net.UnknownHostException: europe.pool.ntp.org
I wonder if simply disabling the 'automatic' option in settings -> date and time would do the trick. That line would keep your data open, and your phone awake, especially with as often as it shows up in your logs.
Hi there. Thank you all for your replies.
For some reason, the issue is gone now, the phone successfully goes to deep sleep and the battery lasts ages again.
I don't know what fixed the issue - the only thing I did is to enable 'use only 2G networks', but it shouldn't make any difference - I disabled the data connection.
Which baseband is the default in Europe?
I can't find permissions fixer in FuFu's OR. Any alternative to that?
I would just use from manager to fix permissions

I have a rooted note with CheckROM v6 that I flashed yesterday running CF-Kernel. Did a full charge yesterday night and I have noticed that my battery is draining rather quickly. Its been 3 hours since I've unplugged my phone and its been awake fully. I have screenshots from Better Batterystats. Can someone help me as to what is causing this drain? Attaching screenshots for reference.

Sorry. Looks like it didnt get uploaded when I attached it from the XDA app
I guess its a Kernel issue. flash different kernel.
Try shutting down as many apps as u can .. lower screen brightness and flash a different kernel. Also use easy battery saver. It really helps when ur battery level is low and u can't charge it immediately. Also see if its a problem with the rom.

Looks like your phone is not going to sleep at all. I read that this could be related to your wireless router - if you are at home it may be trying to constantly talk with your phone which is keeping it on. Try turning off wi-fi and see if the phone goes to sleep for a while. If that works then search for your wireless router in the forums - may show up what else needs to be done to configure it so the problem can be resolved.
The problem still exists even though my router has been switched off. Its been 9 hours and its still fully awake. As to flashing kernel, I flashed CF Kernel from Kitchen Pro. How do I go back to stock kernel that comes with CheckROM. I have tried closing all apps. Nothing much is open. Betterbatterystats stil shows *wifi* android system as running for 9 hours in partial wakelock. Also my screen brightness is set to 40% using ScreenFilter. I run screen filter 24*7
EDIT:I have noticed that this has been happening only after installing CF-Kernel. How do I get back to stock kernel thht comes with checkrom. I flashed CF using KitchenPro

Okay no one seems to have replied but I think the issue is resolved for now. After the battery came down to like 15% after 11 odd hours put the phone for charge. Came back and checked battery usage after like 30 odd mins and battery usage showed that the phone had not been awake for the time it was charged. Then I plugged it out once it was fully charged and the phone started behaving normally. Cheers!

I had that problem initially and I *think* it was related to having WiFi enabled even while the phone was supposed to be asleep. Have a look at this thread for a few ideas which may (or may not) help....

Sorr to double my post, but...
So, I found the problem.
This is kernel wakelock, wlan_rx_wake.
Many people also suffered from this problem on Nexus.
The issue directly related to Dynamic IP/DHCP on your network. Due to kernel fault, wi-fi module can'to go into deep sleep, and therefore drains the battery. Not much, but about 2-3% per hour.
Goddamn Samsung devs.
So

Try the instructions below, fixed my deep sleep problem(thanks to Mister Jozo)
0.go to settings > sound and turn off touch sounds and screen lock sounds
These steps stop the kernel wakelock 100% problem:
1.turn on aeroplane mode
2.turn off device
3.take out battery for 10 seconds
4.turn on device
5.wait for everything to load
6.turn off aeroplane mode

I don't know...very same set of apps, as it was on lp5 and lp6 repacks, and there the battery life was significantly better, than now. There is deep sleep, just in "kernel-wakelock" I'm seeing this wi-fi issue. And it not happens on mobile network.

that worked perfectly for me!!! Many thanks!!!
Left my WiFi and Latitude/Maps running and apps and FB updating over night..
100% charge.
7 hours 38Min 85% remaining
Running odex stock rooted German LPY ROM. Flashed from mobile Odin Pro with injected SU and everrott and ALL wipes checked.
By some standards this may be poor. I am extremely happy with these results given I run everything all the time. I usually am charging every night. I decided to leave it off charge last night to see if I had excessive drain.

the solution posted by OP worked for me thanks!!

I seem to have a problem with the alarm amanger not letting mine go into deep sleep.
3545 wakelocks over a 2 hour period!!!
I have 2 daily alarms set in the stock clock.
Surely this shouldn't be preventing the phone from sleeping?
Or is it related to some other app?
Well one of the things i've noticed is that while charging my phone never goes to deep sleep, it remains on 200mHz. If i take it off the charger it will go to deep sleep.
I've read about a similar problem with the original samsung car holder /charger. As it seems while charging in landscape mode and receiving a call gives a problem. Without the charger all seems to be fine.
In my opinion i think it's rom related (wow, did figure it out myself) but i think it's also related with the usb port. Try it and you will see....
Hope this helps someone.

Does anyone know wat's causing my phone to not be able to go into deep sleep mode?
I already made sure not to pull the charger while it's screen off.
I have betterbatterystats installed.
what should i set to see what's causing it all; kernel wakelocks, partial wakelocks, processes, alarms?
and under settings, wakelock percent of time of what; time on batt, time awake, time awake minus time with screen on?

They say pull your charger out when your screen is on and unlocked...not when its off. I would also recommend restarting phone that usually helps. If that doesnt help. Turn on airplane mode, turn off phone, remove battery for 20 secs or whatever, then put battery back in, restart phone, turn off airplane. That usually gets you back to deep sleep but the issue will come back. At least that is what I experience in ICS.
what i said, I already made sure not to pull the charger while it's screen off.
what you thought i said, i already made sure to pull the charger while it's screen off.
restarting the phone helps but i have to do it everytime it doesnt go into deep sleep mode.? i've tried the other method you mentioned already too. does anyone know wat's the process multi_pdp and l2_hsic?
sorry for the mistake.
This is what I have now done after having bad battery issues.
1) Rooted phone using Dr. Ketans method.
2) changed kernel to Abyss thru CWM
3) wiped cache/davlik/etc thru Abyss
4) installed Criskelo v7
5) changed kernel to SpeedMods latest.
phone has been going for 24hrs with still 25% left in the tank. GPS Google maps for an hour or so. Texts...basically all the stuff I was doing before on stock except the difference is I didnt need to charge it once like I would have already needed to do.
Not sure if you are into all the stuff that I did but it has made a gigantic difference.
does anyone here in the forums who can work well around the problem if i were to post screenshots from my phone's betterbatterystats app??
