[Q][SOLVED] Samsung ATIV S FS Full Access Issue - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I had some problem while enabling the FS full access with my Samsung ATIV S (OS version 8.0.10211.204).
Here are the steps I followed:
1 - first dev unlock and then interop unlock the device
2- I installed the SamWP8 Tools and I turned on the Full FS access
3 - I followed the suggestions that can be found on the various forum's threads but still I can't get access to the phone's disk (the disk seems to be empty)
Just a side note: I'm working with a Windows 7 OS and I'm virtualizing a Windows 8.1 pro + WP8 SDK - this should be a problem, since I can sideload xaps without any error.
Can someone please assist me with the solution of the issue?
Thanks in advance.
Sandro.
** Update ** I solved the issue by upgrading the OS from GDR1 to GDR2, following @MauzaoFilho and @Randοm Hero's suggetions - the device first downloads and installs the GDR2 than, if you want, it will allows the uprade to the GDR3. Thanks for the help.

Try to update your system to version GDR2, I think this is a problem of incompatibility between the interop unlock with the GDR1 and FS.

Are you running software on the PC that interacts with the phone (eg windows media player syncs, etc.)? If yes, turn that program off.

No, everything is turned off.
My problem now is: can I directly update my device to GDR3 - now I have GDR1 - while preventing the interop-unlock ?
Thanks

I think first you have to update to GDR2, then GDR3 (someone confirm this, please). If you Interop-unlock GDR2, then yes, you can indeed prevent your phone from unlocking, using the SamWP8 Tools & following the instructions in this thread

[Q] Problems getting Focus S Dev unlocked

I used the "WindowsBreak" method (credit to jaxbot) and everything seems to work as expected; reboot the phone and try to deploy a XAP with the official app deployment tool from microsoft and no matter what I do, XAPs will not deploy. Is there another deployment solution out there I need to be using?

i was running Win 7 x64 and had to run the deployer in admin mode otherwise it would come up with that message.
give that a shot and see how you got on.
Just whilst your here, im curious, i will be getting a Focus S soon but ive been reading a lot of info saying that the 8107 update via zune should be avoided because it will stop the ability to dev and interop unlock samsung devices.
But ive not found a single post saying that anyone with a focus S has had issues, if you wouldnt mind, have you seen any issues or heard of anything?
I am running W7 x64 as well. Tried running deployment in admin; no bueno.
Try install this program for sideload xaps on to device. It works with x64 and x86.
Remember windows phone only allow to sideload 10 unsigned apps on device but if you have windowbreaked your device there are currently some ways to expand that to a higher number of apps.

Remember to apply xaps
- Make sure your device is connected with PC and Zune lauched in background
- Make sure your device not in sleep mode

Unlock Samsung Ativ S

Hello, I would like to do this unlock on my Ativ S.
Now I'm in the following condition:
Software: Windows Phone8
OS Version: 8.0.10327.77
Firmware revision number: 2424.13.5.1
Number Hardware Revision: 15:15:10
Radio software version: 2424.13.5.1
Radio hardware version: 0.0.0.800
Bootloader Version: 13.04.19.21
Processor SOC Version: 1.5.32
How should I preocedere order to unlock it?
thanks
You don't specify any particular unlock you want to do, so I'm going to assume interop-unlock + capability unlock. If that's not right, try actually saying which one you mean instead of using a pronoun (this) without any antecedent.
Your phone is slightly out of date (GDR2) but that may actually be a good thing anyhow.
First, dev-unlock. You will need the Windows Phone Development Registration tool, which is included in the WP8 SDK, which is available free from Microsoft.
Then, install the Interop Unlock Helper app (there is a link to it in my signature, if for some reason your search is broken...) using the Application Deployment tool (also installed with the SDK).
Run the helper app and follow its instructions...
Thanks for the reply, so the first thing to do is to install Win8 on my notebook (I have Win7)
After installing Win8 with its SDK, can I ask for help on the procedure yet?
There's a modified version of the WP8 SDK that runs on Win7. The emulator doesn't work (it requires Hyper-V, which Win7 doesn't have) but otherwise works fine.
I really told you pretty much the entire procedure. The helper app will guide you though the rest step-by-step; you just need to get as far as installing it.
Thank you, I have sought guidance on the matter.
Would this procedure?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2422751
Can you give me an OK before beginning to drain in the SDK?
You can use Arnold Vink's MiniSDK instead of downloading the whole iso. You can find it in the stickied FAQ. Its actually starting to be pretty comprehensive, covering almost every little subject along the way.
I installed the SDK8 on win7.
Now what should I do?
Where can I find the files Interop Unlock Helper app?
It would be this: EnableAllSideloading_Release_ARM.xap
Thanks
... did you even *TRY* reading the guide linked in my signature? There's a step-by-step in there of which apps to install (with links!) at what times...

I have read the guide but I have not found the link to the helper
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2435697
Searching on google I found this which I think is fine too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2434884
... that second link you posted is included in the first link (under "Guide for Samsung's ATIV phones"), along with a direct link to the .XAP as well. But hey, you managed to find it eventually (through the mechanism that you should have used in the first place). I guess I should have specified "there's a link that contains a link to the XAP in my signature" but I figured you'd be able to get there yourself.
Yes, because I took the file (Interop Unlock Helper app)
Do you think I should first upgrade to GDR3 and then proceed with the interop unlock or better to do it in a situation where I am (GDR2)?
... I'm trying to decide whether I should stop spoon-feeding you answers or just go on and hope eventually you'll run out of them.
There are a bunch of forum threads about GDR3 and interop-unlock. Short version: installing the Samsung update that comes with retail GDR3 will prevent interop-unlock. There are ways around it, which you should read up on as well because, while it doesn't re-lock your phone, it *does* make interop-unlock much less useful too.
I followed the steps and I completed the interop unlock but when I try to install the xap BootstrapSamsung app:
Status Error: 0x81030120
I have not updated in the GDR, are in the same terms as the POST1
How can I fix?
Thanks
You either didn't actually interop-unlock at all, or you didn't do the part of the process that prevents re-locking. That error code means you are still interop-locked. You need to change several registry values, not just one. This is in the helper app, unless you're running a *very* old version.
They are divided by 0 and I was able to complete the procedure!
I tried to install xap files but I get this error:
"Error - Deployment Optimization failed with error "Unable to read input file". Please Ensure that input XAP is not optimized for device already".
Xap from Market ?
Try this video. It is german, but you'll know what to do.

[Q] Choosing a WP8.1 phone

Hello people,
I would like to ask for some suggestions before buying my first Windows Phone. (preferably a Lumia)
I would like to buy a WP8.1 phone that can be rooted. I am a little bit confused by all these terminology (flashing, rooting, unlocking, jailbreak, etc...) so let me explain what I mean by rooting:
I need full filesystem access, and the ability to run commands on the phone, install additional software.
The phone is strictly for debugging a certain application, It doesn't matter how the phone looks and such, the only thing matters it need to have Windows 8.1 and I have to be able to root it.
Can you please tell me which Windows 8.1 devices can be rooted currently?
Can you please recommend me such device(s) that is 100% rootable?
No Windows Phone can be 100% rooted.
You can use Developer tools to debugging

Root is a concept derived from Linux. So little Windows Phone users talk about this. For your purpose, the Widows Developer tools should do the trick.
As per my suggestion.
There is Huawei WP8.0 Device. That you can even unlocked Bootloader or can flash custom ROM. (You can update it to the 8.1 or v10)
Other Samsung/Lumia Device (Having SD-Card Support) can be Interop/Capability unlocked to test high-privileges application. (Pure App Developer Mode)
Any WP 8.0 Supports WP 8.1/WP10*

I suggest you a lumia 830, best balance performance and possiblity to hack slot sd card, it's a new series lumia x30 and you can interop ulock it with rom rebuilder or vcreg mods!!
At present, there are no publicly available hacks that I know of for "100% root" on a WP8.x device. Capability unlock - which only requires registry editing - is the closest you can get right now, I think. Interop/capability unlocks typically also mean full file system access - either on-device, via USB, or both - though you may still run into restrictions (for example, you can't edit or delete a file that the OS has a non-shared HANDLE open on).
Samsung phones probably have the most interop/capability-unlock software released for them, but the other options that @djamol suggested above would work too.
theres the developer unlock which gives you more but not 100% root.
as far as is know there is no complete unlock yet for all WP after WP7.
Thank you all, greatly appreciate your input!
I went with Samsung ATIV S !

LUMIA 925 ROOTED - Customization possibilities

Hello there,
I have questions about my rooted Lumia 925.
I bought it used, with the latest Firmware. Then I loaded up the correct Firmware with Windows Device Recovery Tool, then I unlocked the bootloader, and now I have root access.
I wanted to load up Win10, I haven't made yet, as my phone works fine.
My very 1st question is: IF I'll be successfull with the OS-update, will I lose the root access later on?
I know I could flash the phone back to Win 8.1 but actually the very annoying part is to customize again the device.
Moreover I have a huge problem with "Back-up" built-in function of my WinPhone. I NEVER had a successful back-up of app, settings and SMS... Fortunately my contatcs are secured as they are synced with my account, but that's all.
This bring me to the 2nd question:
ANYONE HAS N IDEA HOW TO FIX THE BACKUP PROBLEM?! ... my phone backs-up pictures and Video on OneDrive BUT NOT the Apps and Settings and SMS...
I got this idea: since I have no chance to back-up my data and settings, what IF make a Back-up of all partitions let's say once a week, following this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-lumia-520/development/make-backup-windows-phoneguide-t3628612 or using WPInternals, do I keep my contatcs/sms/settings/apps and so on ?!?
Anyone can confirm this ?
3rd question concerns UPDATE.
since i loaded the firmware 3051.50009.1424.0010 I keep getting this annoying message "there is a critical update, do you want to download it?" If I press on "agree" the phone gets the Firmware 3051.50009.1451.1011 . Then I lose all superuser rights... I tested it.
Is there a way to DISABLE the update completely? Like on Windows Desktop ?!?!
I have to say I got lucky here.
WPINTERNALS warns :
Updating your phone
After you unlocked the bootloader or enabled Root Access, you MUST disable Windows Updates on your phone. Future updates may corrupt the SecureBoot modifications and your phone may not boot anymore.
After you unlocked the bootloader or enabled Root Access, you can only update your Windows Phone by flashing a new Custom ROM which is based on the latest OS version.
Well I did this:
With "ROOT ACCESS ACTIVED" I pressed on agree to get the critical update. The updated failed. The Package has been downloaded but could not be applied (ERROR 800..... don't remember the error-code)
With "ROOT ACCESS DISABLED" the update has been made w/o errors.. and I had for a while the 3051.50009.1451.1011 ... no bootloader corruption !!! , then switched back to 3051.50009.1424.0010 to keep root access.
BUT can I get rid completely of this annoying message about the UPDATE !??!?! I do not want to challenge my luck again.
OR can I block completely the Win-Update process ?!?
OR can I force the phone to check on 127.0.0.1 instead of checking the Microsoft servers thorugh a registry modification?!?
OR could I modify the HOST file instead !? If I would know the server name, I could try to limit the contact by adding 1 line to the HOST file, something like: 127.0.0.1 windowsupdate.microsoft.com !?
Would this work!?
3rd question: I searched long about this... it seems nobody knows... well I try and ask it directly: is there any way to change the GUI ?
I want to know IF / HOW throug registry
1) I can change the tiles fill-colors using custom HEX or RGB format,
2) I can tiles outline/symbols color instead of using the annoying WHITE using HEX or RGB values.. (my idea is to make a "total-black" GUI with darkgrey symbols... )
3) If I can change phone FONTS (dream)
4th question:
My phone is branded Vodafone (as it has 32GB memory) I would like to unbrand it and use the nice computer Boor Screen "Energy Star" . I read I have to make actually a Custom-ROM since the splash-screen is part of the firmware. OK. So following WPINTERNALS, I can select a source FFU-file and extract the EFIESP partition and MainOS partition.
WPINTERNALS says: "You can enable Root Access on these partitions"
Well HOW?
If they are not on the phone how can I enable the root access and how can can I customize MainOS if it is on my Desktop Hard-Drive ?!?
I'm sure I do need another tool for that... Any hint for me please?! Anybody?
Then ok... "After you have unlocked the bootloader of the phone, you can flash the custom ROM to the phone". that's easy.
Last question, just curiosity: is there a SHELL in Win 8.1 mobile ?!
It wuold be nice to have sometime a hack-library divided by phone sometime.... hope that XDA mods will think about it.
With WPINTERNALS for WinPhones there is a fully new world to discover.
Thanks everyone for your answers.
In case you decide to reply, please be kind... since I cannot read your mind nor I have any "palantir" nor divination skills, try to explain things esaly.... e.g. as you would explain them to your dog.... :good:
Have unlocked bootloader and rooted old Nokia lumia 925 through WPINTERNALS... As I did not have many apps or games on it I would like to install some but now am stuck for how to get apps to phone or even is there a custom rom I can flash to it?...any help please..
PS: Phone is on windows 8.1 CYAN, I have made a full backup to pc with WPINTERNALS just in case anything goes wrong/
PS:-All fixed now and can now deploy xap

Hello everyone!

Hi there, maxbrew here. I just got a Nokia Lumia 520 and windows phone 8.1 (also carrier locked).
I wanted to install some applications directly from the phone itself since I don't have much access to computers. Is it possible to do?
Hi Maxbrew,
the only way to install apps to the 520 is updating it to Windows 10 MOBILE. Without computer, that is impossible. With computer, it is a challenge, but possible and it runs fairly good. Search for Windows 10 mobile offline updater (W01M_Installer), install W10m, do all possible Updates, perform a hard reset and register it with Microsoft. Then you will be able to use the App store or sideload apps via developer mode.
Best regards,
Joachim
