Pixocast New Apps - Google Chromecast

All kinds of new stuff!
http://pixomobile.com/pixocast/

Interesting stuff, and it looks like they have plans to expand. You have to start their apps from a Chrome browser, but it does keep running on the Chromecast after you shut down Chrome. It didn't find my Chromecast initially, but picked it up after I restarted Chrome.

Cast chrome browser from IPAD or Phone?

Absolutely LOVE this thing. Bought three for the house. I used to run wires to connect PC to tv so I'm used to streaming but the ability for my to be on the island in my kitchen and instantly beam something to the TV to show the wife is brilliant. Question though
I love the chrome browser cast tab as the options are endless with what you can put on the TV. Is this possible through the IPAD or phone Chrome browser? Anyway to do this yet? I would love to open up pandora on my chrome browser in my phone and beam it over. I know pandora will support soon but in the meantime....
btw - trick for still using your mac while using chrome browser casting - make the chrome browser tab full screen and then you can switch over to your other desktop tab (three finger swing) and continue doing things.
Not at the moment, no. Can't even cast from browser on Android devices/tablet yet either. Only desktops/laptops for now.

Thanks for the tip! Mine comes in a couple days, that's gonna be great. I was just wondering about being able to multitask with the chrome tabs open.
Thought of another great use for Chromecast..paired up with my Belkin @tv (streams live TV and DVR recordings to tablet/phone/computer) it turns it into a portable cable box! Well, as soon as we get a hack that allows any app to stream, which I'm guessing won't take long :fingers-crossed:

Can chromecast work with google chrome?

I am thinking of getting a chromecast but needed to know more about it.
I have seen videos about it being used with the chrome browser on a laptop or pc.
How ever I would like to ask if the same can be achieved when using the google chrome app on ipad?
Currently, no not at this time. Maybe when its out of beta for desktop chrome the ability will be introduced on our devices.

Netflix and youtube stop working if I exit Chrome

On my iPod, I can cast youtube/netflix and turn off my iPod and still continue to watch on my TV. When I'm trying to cast from the Netflix and youtube apps in chrome, I have to leave the browser open or they stop working. Is there a way to change this?
are you casting from the built-in button within the player? or are you casting with the Chrome extension?
i don't have this problem when i cast from a computer with Chrome.

I've run into this myself. I think you have to leave chrome open (can be minimized). You should also be able to open your ipod and pick up control from the ipod's netflix app and then close your browser.

What they said, please clarify.
From what I understand (or think I understand):
1. From the player itself there is a cast icon. This should hand-off the stream to the Chromecast and the browser shouldn't be needed any longer.
2. If you cast from the Chrome tab (Icon on the upper right on the browser) then it is casting from the browser itself and their is no hand-off, thus the browser be open.
If you issues in with case #1, then something isn't right. I would try a rest, either from the Chromecast app or pressing and holding the button on the device until the solid light begins flashing.
If case #2 then nothings wrong, the browser must be open.

Definitely case #1. I'm casting from the apps/players themselves. I have chrome set up to not run background process once I close the browser down, could this be the issue? I know it shouldn't matter but who knows. Well I'm going to do a reset anyway see how that goes.

I'm pretty sure that's intended behavior. If the stream kept playing after you closed Chrome, you would have no way to control it. The Android apps don't actually close either; they start a background task which shows a persistent notification to let you return to the app so you can control the stream. Since there's no way to do something like that on most desktop OSes, Chrome intentionally stops the stream when the tab containing the casting site is closed.

You say it's case #1 so I assume having it set to kill processes shouldn't be the issue, but I would change that setting before doing a rest of the device.
I tried it today and was able to close the browser and have YouTube play on my TV.

Nope, I did it today. If your casting a tab, yes. But if you casting YouTube or Netflix no. You don't need to control it. It will just cast until the video or movie is over, or until you re-open a tab (or use another device, android/iOS) and take control or cast something else.
I could could start a cast from my phone, then turn out off and it will still play. I should be able to do the same with my pc, as long as I'm not casting a tab.

Are you running Chrome OS? How can you run Netflix/Youtube app within Chrome browser? They are two different things. Maybe I need to update myself to learn new things.

I'm not running on Chrome OS, I have Windows 8.1 Pro. I installed Youtube/Netflix from the Chrome store on my browser. They're not really "app" like they're labeled in the chrome store, more like bookmarks.
By the way I reset the Chromecast and that fixed Youtube! I can now close the browser and it will continue playing on my tv. Netflix however is still not doing that, and I even reinstalled the chromecast extention but no luck.
Unrelated sidenote: I noticed the Netflix app in the Chrome Store was removed, and I no longer see it listed in my apps section of my homescreen, weird idk why it was removed with the last chrome update. The chrome homepage looks ugly now with history displayed. Wish I could hide those hideous blocks.

I knew exactly what you meant when you said. " I'm casting from the apps/players themselves".
I was scratching my head when I read the post you are replying too. was going to reply to it, but decided it best I didn't.

I've never cast Netflix from Chrome, but will give at a try and see if it works after closing the tab and report back.

Well, just gave it a try and Netflix will stop playing when I close the tab. I'm assuming this is normal when casting Netflix from Chrome.
Then tried it with YouTube again and found something odd. The tab casting icon was there the cast icon from the player itself was missing. I closed youtube and tried a gain several time and half the time the casting icon was missing. Maybe Google is currently doing something on their end that is causing this at the moment. Still Once I casts a YouTube video it continued to play even after I closed the tab. Must be a Netflix thing.

Chrome app "Videostream for Google Chromecast™" (rebranded "Chromecast Video")

Chrome app "Videostream for Google Chromecast™" (rebranded "Chromecast Video")
Chromecast Video v1.0.1 is gone from the Chrome Web Store. It has been replaced by Videostream for Google Chromecast™ 1.0.4:

I guess the only difference is apps name.

After some Google drama, we're back up and running. Turns out they hated that our icon was so cleverly similar to their Chrome icon. We're back now, better than ever after being pulled for 3 days.

BTW: you can have both version installed.
Too bad, I though the old name was kind of catchy.
No other changes? I guess we can wait for the next update then.

The old name violated Google's Terms of Service I would imagine as well.
It very much violated many Google's branding guidelines haha.
Edit:
The latest update basically just updated the icons, etc... and added some share buttons.
Is there any way to control Videostream from a remote device? I've dabbled with RemoteCast but it didn't seem to pick up on the Videostream content.
Great app! Keep up the good work!
Anyway to add time stamps along with forward/rewind 30 seconds etc

Can't get it to work
I'm trying to launch the app from my chrome browser and it keeps giving me an error saying that we can't connect to your chromecast. I checked the list and I have Chrome browser installed on my laptop, google cast extension as well and both are using the same wifi. I just don't know why it is happening to me. I even disabled my kaspersky internet security, but no luck at all....Is anyone having the same issue with me ?

App Needs Launch Button
Great aoo Works flawlessly but have to go to Web Store to launch. No launch button in chrome toolbar,
I really like the app Videostream for Chromecast. However, there is not a button on the toolbar that allows me to launch it from chrome directly. I have to go to the Play Store and launch from there. Anyone else have this problem? I have not been able to find any references about this problem on any forums.
It's an app not and extension. I find the open apps button on the bookmark bar, and it's there.
More info HERE or you can add a button HERE
I see we have an end time on the timeline now!
Oh-- it should be in your Start menu / Spotlight.

What browser do you use?

I've been using Chrome for a long time but it seems very slow to load pages. I've got a 25mbps connection so I don't think that's the problem. In browser tests, Chrome seems to be slower than a lot but OTOH, it has a pretty small memory requirement which seems important on a 1MB machine. I have a Nook HD and have been running MM for about a week. Chrome was slow on CM11 and it seems just as slow on CM13. Anyone using a browser they are really happy with? (FWIW, I tried Puffin but the interface was not a nice as Chrome so I gave up, probably too quickly.)

I started using Firefox a few weeks ago for one main reason. The additional add on of ad blockers. I do not have xposed and adaway on my nook right now so gave the adblockers a try. It seems to speed up my browsing a ton. I was a chrome fan, too, but there are so many intrusive ads now that it can't function. There is still occasional lag from whatever unknown issues there are on a 3 year old tablet and its antique processor but I am on the latest aosp and am p!eased it still works.

I use FF on my laptop but switched to Chrome on my desktop because FF doesn't agree with the hardware and Win10. Would spontaneously freeze or reboot every couple days. I will try FF on the Nook and see what happens. Thanks.

I use FF on my Toshiba with Windows 10 with no issues. It's my goto browser there too for the same reasons.
I use Opera on any android device, simply because it is the only one I know of that still supports dynamic text reflow, allowing one to zoom in and not have to scroll left and right. It irks me that other browsers do not support this.
