A. Introduction: I had the HTC Desire C working smooth and fine. Then one fine day, I realized that the microphone is not working properly, the person at the other side of phone call would not be able to listen to me unless I'd literally shout over phone. So I gave the phone to the HTC service center because it was under warranty. They changed some parts and handed back the phone to me. But the problem was still there. I again submitted my phone. They changed the same parts again and now the mic was working classic, phone was working smooth.
B. Twist in the scene: Just after few days, I was on my way to home after some work and I noticed that phone had a cross (x) against the signal and when I pulled down the notification thing, it said NO SERVICE. This used to happen a lot of times from then onward. Switching to Flight Mode and then reverting back (OR a restart OR a sim pullout and insert again) would sometimes fix the issue, but only temporarily. Sometimes after reboot, it would say NO SIM CARD, sometimes NO SERVICE and sometimes proper functioning with 2-3 bars.
C. Attempts from my end: I thought that they have messed the sim card slot while assembling my phone back and it is a hardware issue. But I was finding it hard to believe. I tried switching to GSM ONLY, then it would show full bars, but again only temporarily -- later NO SERVICE again.
The same SIM card in other phones (standard Nokia b&w phones aka hammers) shows full bars. And I have tried 3+ sim cards in the HTC, but all say NO SERVICE after sometime, maybe due to some activity (connecting internet) or just randomly on its wish.
I studied about radios(modems/baseband) and found that they are drivers and they also decide when and how to switch between 2G and 3G network etc.
D. Other Information and Background: Many times, when there is NO SERVICE error, when I check the Signal Strength it says -83dBm 15asu, so that is pretty hard to digest. The other times it says 0dBm 99asu, which should be obvious for a NO SERVICE error.
With point number E.2. in this post I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted my phone, installed CWM recovery, took a backup.
E. Options that are/aren't available from my perspective and my doubts:
1. Warranty period is over now, and I do not want to take my phone to the service center.
2. Can flashing a custom rom and radio fix this issue? If yes, direct me to some reliable ROMs for the same. CM10 build#3 (from here) didn't boot.
3. I have a Linux laptop, so options strictly based on Windows PC will not apply.
Has anyone faced similar issue? I found many pages with similar issue, but nowhere was the exact solution/troubleshoot mentioned.
I did have a problem with sim cards. What I tried doing is borrowing a friends sim card to see if it works on my phone. To my relief it worked and meant that my current one just died. So I went to one of the offices of my Phone plan providers and just changed it and it worked. If you can try that and give back results, it would be awesome.
Depending on the age of your SIM card can give those errors but as you stated you tried other SIMS and same occurred so my guess is it's either Hardware or Baseband Software, unless there's a Baseband update or simply reflash same Baseband, if it still persists I'd more suspect Hardware.

I, myself have a lot of sim cards to check this and I have already tried other sim cards. Some cards are not even recognized. Some are being recognized but it says NO SERVICE after sometime. Switching to Flight mode and back or restarting the phone or Going in Testing Mode > turning off radio > and turning it on again, sometimes solves the issue but only temporarily.

Probably. And that's why I installed mini CM10 and flashed the radio with the latest HTC Desire Radio (for CM), but it still says NO SERVICE and the same baseband version as it was saying with the stock ROM. :/
Even though the signal strength is -63dBm 25asu
Can you call or something if it is showing signal strength?

No, I wasn't able to call. And when I would search for a network it would say "Error while searching for networks"
I'm more likely to suspect the actual SIM card holder hardware and not the SIM Card itself or the Baseband (No errors reflashing and other SIM's no different than your own), the fact it's showing signal strengths but you're not getting onto the network suggests RADIO hardware is most likely working along with software but a hardware failure could just be 1 connection to the SIM
Q. Are all other SIM's working in other phones and does your SIM work in another phone?
If so I'd suspect the SIM Slot onwards.
Q. may or may not apply but possibly relevant, does Bluetooth and Wi-Fi still work?

Answer #1: Yes
Answer #2: Yes
Q. I still don't get that when I have flashed the radio, how is it still saying the same baseband version? Doesn't flashing a new radio change it?
Recent UPDATE: Somehow, the phone is behaving well... (always 3 bars or full 4 bars), after the mini CM flash and NOPE 750 flash. Initially it was NO SIM CARD or NO SERVICE but multiple reboots and pulling out and reinserting the sim card have made it this far. Let's see if this good behavior persists.
UPDATE: Back to the same state of disconnecting/No Service/No Sim Card
I still suspect the SIM slot as you could have disturbed what's known as a 'dry joint' essentially made it make contact until it disconnects again even with just a change in any kind of pressure (placing the cover on or placing it on a table).
Then again it could be down to ROM and Kernel, I wouldn't totally rule it out without going back to stock ROM and Kernel and seeing any change

UPDATE: The network seems quite reliable when I am on GSM only (2G only). That again indicates that somehow the problem lies in only the radio driver.
Any ideas?
Same Problem
I am facing exactly same problem on my HTC Desire C. Did lot of hard reset problem reappears after couple of days. got my phone reinstall OS at HTC service centre problem reappeared after a week.
Same sim is working fine in other phone, even got new sim still same problem.
Am confused if its hardware or software issue, problem comes only when phone is in GSM only mode, works fine on WCDMA only or AUTO mode.
But in WCDMA only since network is not good signals are low and in AUTO mode when signals are low it switches to GSM and if at that particular moment there is problem then NO SIGNALS.
Update, Phone fine. Help with the settings!
I checked a lot of sim cards and found that my phone is perfect! There is no hardware issue.
So I am presenting the present scenario. Please help!
I have 2 phones: HTC Desire C and a Nokia B&W aka hammer.
1. TATA DOCOMO sim card work fine on both phones.
2. AirTel sim card works fine in Nokia but HTC says "No Sim Card" regardless of the numerous attempts.
3. Reliance sim card (brand new, bought today) works fine in Nokia but HTC says "No Sim Card".
4. A friend's Reliance sim card was working fine in HTC.
If any Indian friend might help, then it would be great as this issue is more local specific I guess. Or any user who might have faced similar issue and then found a fix please help.

Not yet.
And believe it or not, but the AirTel sim that I mentioned in my last post was working once I washed it with some alcohol. So it might indicate that the sim was old and dirty maybe.
But what about the new Reliance sim, I just bought it today and it works in Nokia. I'd have switched to Vodafone but I can't afford its high 3G plan rates as I have to maintain an MTS MBlaze for laptop as well.
And the thing that friend's Reliance sim works fine in my phone is troubling me even more.

Okey so ive had my diamond for 3 weeks and have had this issue. The device worked fine for 2 weeks except for this problem that it keeps dropping the connection and just says "no service" but when i disable and re-enable the phone radio i get full signal. However one time the device froze and i had to soft reset. After which it said the "sim card is missing, you can make emergency calls if your service provider supports it" when the sim card was in the phone. I tried resets and cleaning the sim all to no avail. So after not being able to find anyone else with this problem i figured it must be my old 2g sim that had been causing the problems so i went and purchased a new 3g sim from my service provider (mobilezone [switzerland]) and inserted it into the device. Everything starts working again and i figure the problem is fixed. However the phone continues to drop the signal again and again over the next few days and finally kills the sim card again, and displays the same "sim missing..." error. So i have now taken it back to the retailer and they say there seems to be no issue with the device as the technichen inserts a new sim and everything works fine. The thing is that the sim cards are completely broken. They no longer work in any device!!! But it took 2 weeks the first time and 3 days the second, so the technicians agreed to test the device for a couple days, im just sure its gna work fine for that amount of time but screw up again after when i use it again. Can anyone provide any insight into this? I speculate that its perhaps an issue with my service provider since they do not have their own network but use orange (switzerland) with their custom network settings, and when configuring the device the WM6 connection wizard only has 3 options and my provider is not listed, so i use the orange config settings, which i thought may be slightly different and cause problems. Ideas?!?!?
Thanks in advance.

If it helps, I had to have a new sim to use it in my new phone (not the diamond, a nokia) because it didn't work properly, as it was a relatively old sim.
Hi did you ever get your sim problem sorted, have been experiencing same,
except my sim still work on other phones?
My Nexus was on 5.0.41, all working sweet, then it stopped "finding" the network. No update, flashing or anything was done prior to the problem.
I tried a SIM from another provider, but still - the "No Service" is written on screen, and when I try to search for networks, it says "Error searching for networks".
I then tried the following ideas (nothing helped):
- Reflashed the Radio image.
- downgraded the Radio image.
- Upgraded it again.
- Flashed the Stock ROM (unrooted and rooted).
- Flashed CM5053.
All was done with wipes as needed.
Any suggestions will be more than welcomed!
Can the device just get bricked like that? with no reason?
It sometimes identifies the SIM's provider (Orange for example) but always with No Service.
It sounds like your SIM card slot isn't holding the card in tight enough to make full contact... try putting a business card, cut down to size, between the SIM and the phone's frame (note, not the contacts side, but the back side) to force the SIM down onto the reader tighter.
If that does nothing, not sure what to tell you?
it didn't help
I'm Italian and I have the same your problem .. I only work in 2G GSM'...ve tried to see if you do so?
I opened another tread here Forum
You need a new SIM.
I just had this problem on Friday. The SIM some how falls of the network and your provider network will not allow it to reconnect.
I can't remember, but if I am right Orange is owned/owns by T-Mobile. Hence they have the same network.
The puzzling part about this is why it happens. This is the second SIM I have gone through with my N1, I also had one go with my G1, my sister bought that G1 and the SIM went out again. My mom bought her G1 same day as me and hers has died once. My friend has a MT3G and his has died two times now. I find this extremely annoying.
I tried every suggestion on the internet for repairing or troubleshooting a SIM. It is a waste of time. Well, everything short of dropping it in isoproply alcohol to clean the contact.
I tried a 2G and a 3G SIM on mine, and had the same result, so my problem is different.
My device just doesn't register with the network, no matter what provider or SIM generation I choose.
Can I ask for a RMA if I unlocked the bootloader?
I do not know you definitely do not pass it under warranty
Ryan then you say you clean the contacts of the nexus or the sim with isopropyl
Mine is now doing that as well and so far everything that I tried isn't fixing it. I get it to connect briefly with edge and then nothing. I am going to try a new sim tonight after work and see if that helps, otherwise unsure of what to do after that...anybody got any answers or suggestions?
I've been suffering from this... have an RMA coming but I got mine to work. Make sure you also have CDMA preferred on there or whatever the default is. If it says unknown you have to reboot the radio somehow. I pulled my battery, waited 5-10 seconds. Then i went and checked airplane mode on and off. Then i checked the service menu again. I can't remember if i had to pull the battery another time but it came back from "unknown" to cdma preferred. You can also try turning the radio on and off via the service menu. Finally select your radio bands for your region by pressing the menu button under phone information again in the service menu and select radio bands. I'm not sure if automatic is a good or bad idea but it couldn't hurt testing it if you still have some issues even after selecting your region specific bands. After this you should be able to maybe search and register or you may need to turn the radio on and off again via airplane or the service menu. I played around with it alot to get it running again.
Also I'm tmobile usa using the one for t-mobile bands. I'm not sure if CDMA preferred is a world wide setting or if its gsm or something else.. but the bands are specific to your region definitely.
I have a Developers Edition, using an AT&T sim. I just got the sim about a month ago, as my previous phone had a normal sim instead of a micro. I'm running Android Revolution 8.1.
Intermittently, about once every two weeks, I lose all connectivity and it says sim card not found in the status bar. I reboot the phone and everything is fine. I've tried removing and re-installing the sim card twice now.
Has anyone else had this issue or know the cause?
I had that happen to my DE for this first time this morning. A reboot solved it (for now). If I'm not mistaken, this happened on the HTC One X and a number of people got new SIMs only to have the problem resurface. I guess we'll have to wait and see how many others are affected or if it's limited to only a handful of devices. I doubt if there's anything wrong with your SIM card, but AT&T will give you a replacement if you want to go that route and see.
I used to have the problem one my one x, it was caused by a poorly fitting sim tray combined with the body and back not being completely rigid (it was the same underlying problem which caused the screen flex and wifi problems on the one x). I solved the sim problem with a new sim tray but the underlying problem always remained of course...
Hello,
I am with international HTC One and I have already had this issue twice. But for me, rebooting the mobile does not solve the issue. The first time, after having switching 10 times with some other cards I had, it suddenly worked when I put the card from an Iphone.
This night, same issue again ! Up to now, even with changing with the same card, it does not work !
**** ! I don't know what to do......
Any ideas ?
i have had same issue with my ex One X . Went to service and replaced mobo.btw while all process service guys scrached the body, lost bluetooth sensivity, lost wifi sensivity,green-orange led became bigger light.
i hope something wrong with your Sim.or store can replace with new one . otherwise bad days waiting for your One.
Found this solution in another forum. Sounds like it might work.

Having my Nexus 6 for almost a month. Things working perfectly in the starting(or after reset), but after two or three days, No incoming calls, no outgoing calls. No mobile data. Cant realy tell it as a mobile sometimes. Wifi is working good always. After reset, it is working properly for two or three days. Whenever it is not working, I am able to see a !-mark near the tower bar.
My mobile always connected to 4G when no wifi.
No Custom ROMS and no root. Plain Android given by google.
Anyone having this issue. Any suggestion?

I was begining to think i was the only one who had this problem!
Yesterday morning i woke up and to my suprise my signal bar had a (!) it it but it was still displaying my regual signal level.
I switched my wifi of and i couldnt get a data connection just the (!) sign. I got my girlfreind to give me a ring and see if a
call would go through which it didnt it just said that i was unavalible. I then desided that a reboot might sort the problem
but when i my phone booted back up i was presented with the holow triangle signal icon to say that i had to signal. I then
popped my simacard out thinking it could have just been a bit of dust on it. I gave it a little bit of a dust of and popped it back
into my phone and i was given the same no signal and emergency calls only yet it was picking up that there was a simcard inserted.
The day before i had flashed the alpha version of PA so my next thought was that this would be a ROM bug and went ahead and
flashed chroma which i was using prior to PA and i had had no issues with. Held my fingers crossed as it booted up but much to my
dismay i was greated with the same no signal problem but i went into the settings and searched for networks. Three was one of
the network it had picke dup so i tryed to reconnect to it but i got the toast to tell me i couldnt connectto the network and to
try again later. I checked the APN settings and it had automatically grabbed threes APN from the sim card so at this stage i was
completly baffled by them problem.
My next move was to try my sim in my girlfreinds phone and what do you know it worked a charm. As a last shot to check everything
was okay and i was upto date on my bills etc i gave three a ring and they told me there was nothing wrong with my sim and everything
was working as it should be and that it was a problem with my phone.
That brings me to the point i am at now completly baffled as to the problem and slightly angry at the 2 week old phone that had been working
perfectly up until now has suddnely desided to stop with no warning.
So you are not the only one and i expect their are more of us. I am going to flash the offical stock rom from google and see if that does the
trick but im not holding up much hope i feel like im going to have to contact google and find out where the problem lies.

My sim died after a month. My calling went out and then only lte worked no 3g. Got card replaced and it works perfect now. I have US Cellular.
I've posted this in few other threads also, but I had also problem where I only had tgt exclamation mark no matter what I did. I solved the problem by waiting like 5sec before inputting my pin-code. If I input my pin code too fast after a boot, it will open my phone, but won't give me cellural network. This seems to happen in every ROM I've tried
Hi,
Solved the issue. Working fine after enabling request for SIM Pin and set my sim pin.
Usually i disable sim pin lock to have uninterrupted boot. But with ROM this is not working.
Enabling SIM pin request solves the issue.
Is this problem with carrier or Android L?

I have not seen this issue on three devices I've owned with Lollipop. So it appears to be a carrier issue?
Hello,
my Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro running on stock MIUI Global 12.5.1.0 (RFKEUXM) can now suddenly not connect to my mobile carrier.
I hope somebody can help me out.
Some facts and stuff I have tried:
The connectivity icon on the top is just grayed out now and shows an X.
But that was not the case in the morning today.
At that time it showed full bars, but not the usual 4G text and the mobile internet did not work. After some attempts written below it is now just gray.
Mobile internet and cell service do not work.
I have rebooted multiple times.
The IMEI for both SIM slots is shown as 0.
No baseband version is shown.
(I am sure that this was also not the case early in the morning.)
I have never installed a custom ROM on this device, bootloader was never unlocked.
The SIM card is correctly inserted and the phone number is shown in the settings for SIM slot 1.
Trying SIM slot 2 (incl. reboot) did not fix the problem.
The SIM status shows that the service is not available, also on the top left when the phone is locked. ("Dienst nicht verfügbar" in German locale.)
Trying the SIM in another phone works, which I think makes it not a carrier problem.
Trying another SIM in my phone also does not work.
I unfortunately had dropped the phone days before, but no damage visible at all (phone case FTW).
Also it worked without problems, which makes me hope this is not hardware related.
WLAN works, so internet connectivity is possible.
Phone is out of warranty.
I did search for other threads with similar issues, but they all seem to be related to having flashed custom ROMs and then losing the IMEI.
Does somebody have any idea how I can fix this?
Thank you!
Edit: I just remembered/saw that I did do the "Xiaomi Service Framework" system app update to version 6.0.6-G yesterday night, maybe that caused the problem? Currently researching on how to roll that back. If somebody knows, please do tell.

Did you check Settings, SIM cards and Mobile networks, SIM 1 (if SIM is in Slot 1)
Do you have Turn on? If Turned Off, then do Turn On
If not, ie if it does not recognize the SIM card, then it looks like a hardware issue
Assuming, as you say, that SIM card is ok, correctly inserted, and that phone runs only the stock firmware - hence no root, no custom ROM, no custom Recovery (that user could possibly wipe partitions), etc
Maybe, some connection got loose and later disconnected completely
Thanks for you answer.
I am sure the SIM is inserted correctly and working. It's been in there probably for years now.
Don't know if you saw my update above about "Xiaomi Service Framework". Checking that right now. Maybe I should just do a factory reset.

The carrier name is only shown as the NAME of the SIM card (I guess it is stored on there or the phone has remembered it). But there is NO connection or carrier name shown in the top notification bar.

Yeah but you still have unknown IMEI - that's something that should have not happened
Anyway, go to Preferred Network Type and try with Prefer 4G, Prefer 3G or Prefer 2G - maybe, with the updated Framework, something went wrong with the bands support or so
If it wouldn't help, then I'm out of the ideas how to solve
So I did do a hard reset now, and it worked for a short time (IMEI is back), then it doesn't again, and ... just now again. It really is not stable.
Thx. I will post updates when I know more.
Unfortunately the phone keeps crashing and rebooting when using it. It just freezes and restarts, and sometimes it takes a long time to restart (seems like a crash loop).
Twice I also saw some graphic artifacts (bright magenta and green) on a small part of the screen.
I don't think this is just a mobile network connection problem anymore.
BTW: I have installed an older version of Xiaomi Service Framework (also the hard reset reverted it to a much older version), but that did not help.
Hey!!
I hope you doing great
