[Q] Can I factory reset using Odin? - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was playing with Carbon ROM and left the phone totally emptied of battery overnight.
Wake up, charge the phone a bit, after boot it stuck at boot animation and bootloop.
Tried to go to recovery mode, stuck at TWRP intro screen and bootloop again.
Flash Carbon again using Odin, didn't fix the problem.
Flash official ROM using Odin, now phone boot directly into TWRP intro screen and stuck there.
Flash again using Odin together with PIT file, didn't solve the issue.
So, something seems to be stuck and I cannot factory reset.
Finally flash the stock recovery from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2150822&highlight=root
Boot into stock recovery, factory reset/wipe.
Reflash ROM using Odin again. This time it works.
Is there a way I can do factory reset ONLY using Odin if I can't get to recovery mode like above?
I search the web but didn't find satisfactory answer.

Hi,
strange that you get a bootloop after a empty battery. I think something went wrong when you flash it. Didn't had such problems.
Odin is only for flashing recovery and rom. It can't only reset factory reset/wipe. You must use your recovery for that.
The recovery should work Always. Did you tried Volume up, main button and power button? Or trough the rom itself after restart?
What I did:
Rooted my stock rom with odin
Flashed CWM recovery ( not twtrp) in Odin.
factory reset/wipe
Format data and media
format system
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
Installed my Rom and Gapps in recovery
factory reset
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
Reboot system
.
Maybe it works for you also.
Greetz

Somehow my recovery got corrupted and preventing the phone to boot properly.
The combo button work but it will just stuck there.
Flashing recovery seems to be the only solution.

Hello,
Unfortunely you cannot do a factory reset/wipe data using Odin. Odin is only used for rooting & flashing roms but not doing a factory reset. You can do a factory by booting into recovery mode by doing Volume Up > Home Button > Power Button.
I hope everything goes well.

[Q] i9001 stuck in bootloop after updating

Hello guys, I've updated my SG+ to the latest firmware (XXKQ1) using ODIN over my old firmware (I didn't want to lose any settings/apps, sorry noob). My phone just started giving me forced app ending errors and now it's stuck in the bootloop (animation).
Any sugestion would be helpful! I would love a solution that would not require a total wipe of my settings/pics/etc.
try to get in download mode again by pressing volume button down, home button and power button. Open Odin select the firmware you downloaded as onepackage file and flash again but i think your pics and stuff like that will be gone.
Usually it should boot normally after a flash, without resetting anyway. But it helps in 90% to reset your device, maybe it doesn't boot up because you didn't resetted it. So im sorry to say that but I think you have to do that, or flash the firmware you had before..
For resetting you can go into the recovery mode (by pressing vol+ and power button, then when the "android out of the box" appears release these buttons and press the menu softbutton), then choose wipe data/factory reset or something like this. ^^
This doesn't seems to be solved.
I have the same problem, I did factory reset, formatted /system, wipe cache, dalvik, after updating I fixed permissions, but the phone is still on bootloop.
I did: RemICS 1.3 and CyanogenMod 9 with CWM 5.5.0.4. Always bootloop.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735976
Any help?
The only ROM that is working is the original one from samfirmware.com.
I'm sorry for post under the post, but I wanted to go this topic to the top, so anybody with this issue would see it.
I have tested one solution and it help with me:
Before uploading CWM into the Phone, format external sdcard. After that upload on external sdcard the zip archive with ROM and upload CWM with Odin.
After going to recovery mode and installing the ROM (I uploaded RemICS 1.3a), everything work just fine.
bootloop

Boot Loop after flashing stock

I was recently using Stunner ICS but decided I wanted to go back to stock and start over. I downloaded the stock N7000XXKJ4_N7000OXXKJ4 firmware and installed it through odin. I did not receive any errors on the phone or on my PC. But now it seems like my phone is stuck in a boot loop. It just keeps showing the samsung boot animation over and over. I used the download jig to get into download mode and tried redoing the firmware twice already with no luck. One thing I did notice is that the jig is no longer resetting the binary counter. Does anyone have any other ideas or is my phone possibly bricked?
This is supposed to be in Q& A section... Anyways... Did you try wipe?

What worked for me having the same problem recently is go to Recovery mode (Volume up + home + power) and you'll see this funny kinda recovery, not at all CWM Do a data wipe/factory reset and then reboot.
Same thing happened with me yesterday, wipe in recovery fixed the problem

I'm sorry. Mods please move to appropirate section.
Thank you guys. I was beginning to freak out. I was trying to do the recovery menu but couldn't get it to work. I thought the recovery menu was also hosed but I had the wrong buttons. All is good now! thank you so much!
First thing you need to do if you want to get back GB, flash abyss 3.9 redpill kernel.
After that flash GB rom.
So later you can flash whatever kernel you want

Hanging at Samsung logo; can't boot into recovery; am I bricked???
Hi guys...
I've been semi bricked for about 18 hours now. And it's starting to look like it's a full-brick.
I had the latest Gingerbread ROCKET ROM on my Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000, with the latest Franco kernel in place.
I thought I'd give the ICS version of ROCKET ROM a go. Flashed Abyss4.2 kernel without any hassles. Used 'advanced' to boot into recovery. Did my various wipes. Flashed the ICS Rocket Rom zip. And got caught up in the recurring boot-up, mostly upgrade, run, reboot cycle that's been described in many places.
Didn't panic.
Booted into recovery again, and flashed the ICS Rocket Rom again.
But this time, it wouldn't go past the SAMSUNG logo.
Still, I could boot into recovery.
Which I did.
And I tried to restore my Gingerbread build from Nandroid.
Tried it. But it hung on the Samsung logo again.
With one key difference... Now, no matter how much I try, I can't boot into recovery.
I *CAN* boot into 'download' mode. So I've used PC Odin to try and inject a rooted Gingerbread rom into the phone.
The instructions tell me to wait for the phone to reboot twice. Sadly, it tries its first reboot, and doesn't get past the Samsung logo. And that's where it hangs. No recovery mode either.
What shall I do??? Oh, woe is me. Etcetera.

UPDATE
--------------------------------------------------------
I found a version of Abyss 4.2 kernel in tar format. I flashed it via PC ODIN, and I now seem to have a phone that can boot again.
Not much more to report at the moment, cos the battery is on about 3%, so I'm charging it now before delving further. Will give more feedback once the battery's up and running again.
Here's a link to the Abyss file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1072122&d=1337500067
I tried all of this, was on stock ICS 4.0.3 and had it rooted.
I tried to restore a backup which was sadly on GB and then the restore of /data failed
I then tried to flash paranoid custom rom and it was successful but the phone never went any further than SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE GT-N7000 logo
I then Flashed a direct rootable stock rom via PC odin and all was well but the phone would never go any further than the logo before mentioned
I tried flashing AbyssNote kernel via pc odin but the CWM recovery menu kept on rebooting hence leaving me with not particular choice to select
Tried wiping data, cache mem, dalvik cache but no use and now i am on stock recovery menu. please help me out
i have this Samsung i9220 china i try to flash upgrade the firmware with Odin3 v1.85 . i got stock phone can't power non recover modem non booting logo , does anyone have any ideas ?

Unrooting problem

I unrooted my Galaxy Note N7000 via ODIN using a UK firmware (Car warehouse) one
I did all the things which was posted in the method but when it get suceeded my phone reboot and does not load up, the samsung logo keeps blinking and nothing happens. I tried going in Recovery mode too but it keep "Downloading do not turn off the target" and don't go anywhere beyond that.
Please help what i have done wrong here?
Its not recovery mode,i guess you entered download mode
Flash the firmware again

Ok. If you are coming from a JB rom you will need to reset. To do that safely, you will need to flash a safe kernel first. Download philz kernel zip version for the rom you just installed on the phone. Place it on ext sd and boot into recovery by using vol up + home + power.
Flash the kernel using aply update.
Now reboot into recovery and do a factory reset. Once done do a reboot and your phone will boot. But it will be rooted again. You can flash the rom again to completely unroot. This time phone will boot normally without the above steps

Unable to fix boot loop. Tried everything.

Hi,
So basically I ended up with a boot loop somehow..long story. I cannot access my recovery..only my download mode.
I've already tried the following :
- Flash stock ROMs(All - JB, ICS, GB using Odin)
After flashing, All stocks ROM's go in a boot loop of the intro animation and glowing Samsung repeating again and again.
- Tried a FULL Flash - used a PIT file with a md5 of a stock ROM. Re-partition basically. Still boot loops.
Anyone has any clue what's going on here? Tried everything and thought it through and can't figure why it won't boot even after a re-partition happened successfully.
Would appreciate any help,
Cheers
Why can't you access recovery? What happens when you press the 3 button combo? Try with and without the USB cable plugged in. You could also try flashing philz kernel from Odin and then try if you have access to recovery. Then a data wipe should get you booted.
Flash some kernel with cwm, go to cwm and wipe data. After that just flash any ROM You want and it should work.
Sent from note, a phone like never before
its will be fixed with flashing the right rom..
im facing that kind of trouble too last night.. but succesfully fixed it with flashing with jellybean firmware..

Stubborn bootloop

My i9295 is bootlooping on the ROM splash screen. I'm getting the animation for the Samsung, SlimBean, CM or whatever ROM I have installed. I have done 2 stock installs using Odin, as well as installing root and CWM using Odin. I've also installed a new PIT file using Odin. Using CWM, I have tried several custom ROMs as well as doing a wipe and clearing the cache, and formatting system prior to a fresh install. And still I get back to a bootlooping splash screen. Other suggestions? TIA...
...nevermind
Pressing Volume up + Pwr on into stock bootloader, then doing a factory reset followed by a cache wipe has resolved the issue. Curiously, I did both of these w/CWM at least twice and had no luck.
