So i was just introduced to this program the other day. It works great, i get my e-mails on my phone just a few seconds later. It doesn't seem to lower my battery life much at all, and it was very easy to setup.
http://community.seven.com/main.php
register and download the beta. I've been using this for about 3 days and i've gotten about 50 e-mails through this service and i always check the times and it's never more than a minute later.
I would like to get a consensus about how well this works for others. I'm using Gmail and it forwards very fast.
UPDATE: Just wanted to add, do not install this if you have XpressMail installed on your device as they use some of the same files they both will become unusable.
before i try
how does it work?
is it constantly connected to data? or does it send as a text or what?
i knew i forgot something, i've got my Touch pro on a constant Edge connection with constant data enabled. I'm not 100% positive the data connection is needed but i think you do. Other Idle Imap apps, i've tried needed constant connection.
I've been using this for a while now and it does require a constant connection, but it is a lot less power hungry than other push solutions or even the native POP / IMAP connections. Seven basically creates e-mail accounts within the native messaging application, so there's no need to have an additional application. It allows you to setup multiple e-mail accounts to be pushed, including Google Apps.
And for those of us that change roms regularly, Seven saves your account information (sans passwords) so that you don't have to start from scratch everytime you flash a new rom.
One thing to note is that Seven is essentially in permanent beta, so there will be times when it goes down for upgrades, maintenance or bugs. But that doesn't happen very often and they are usually pretty good about communicating what is going on and when to expect a solution.
Been using this for a year and it's the best! Woohoo! I love this!
I tried emoze, pushconsilient, and web2mail. I like "SEVEN" out of all of them. I get my email on my phone before my outlook does on my pc.
Thanks!!
It's really COOL and i can now check the gmail and even the company mail (OWA)!
Very nice!!
does it do "better"then Emoze?
I use Emoze now for a year and i have no problem.
Does it use less more power?
i've just tested, but i like Emoze more then Seven.
Emoze connects een fast as seven, but now i get also mine appointpents ect. synced.
So i keep it with emoze.
Seven is the dev company that supplies AT&T with Good Mobile Messaging and such. They sell the product (serverside) to the Cell carriers, who inturn rebrand it and "sell/offer" the service to the carrier's susbcribers.
I have been using it for 3 years for multiple accounts... no more desktop redirectors.
It currently uses a data connection, but in the future it will work via SMS triggers
gr8 share thank you
A few days ago, I started using it for both my Gmail and my company mail (via OWA).
At first, it took a few minutes for new mail to show up in either. Now, I'm finding that new messages in my gmail are showing up almost instantly (under a minute at least), but work messages are taking between 5-15 minutes (I can confirm via the desktop that they are indeed in the inbox).
Anyone else see this sort of delay?
is this based on Exchange 2007 aka HTML emails? Doesn't seem to let me into the FAQ's before creating an account...
I use this service and i love it.
i'm glad to see so many people who support and use this App, and those of you who don't use it i recommend it.
I tried it for 2 days, I love it... However, since it used data constantsly, it heats up my device badly... so I uninstalled it.
Thanks for the share thou.
goes this get around the gmail issue where sent messages also appear as new unread emails?

Seven does not have this problem. Additionally, the sent messages get saved in your sent folder on gmail.

Do you keep HSDPA going? I keep it on an EDGE connection and i don't get much heat at all.
It's a shakey time for anyone who sees this thread to try it out, though. They did some sort of heavy maintenance Monday, and although their status updates say everything's back, I'm not sure it is. I'm seeing big delays in getting my gmail via imap through them. I suspect it will be worked out soon, though.
My wife's purse was stolen in Wal-Mart last Sunday. My first thought was "Why didn't I install a tracking program?!?!" Well the purse was found under a cloths rack and the idiot left the phone and her wallet in it. He stole her change purse for work that wad about $50 in it.
I have Gmaps/Latitude running but I used to have an app on my phone that allowed her to txt me with a special command that would cause my phone to get a gps fix and txt her back with a gmaps link. Can't remember the app name though. More importantly, I know there are several apps like this out there.
Which one is best? I want to be able to beat someone's @$$ if one of my G1's is stolen.
Use - Mobile Defense
its free on the market and its amazing!! try it !!!
http://www.cyrket.com/package/com.neevo.mobiledefense
Mobile defense and SMS COmmander are both pretty decent. Mobile Defense is free right now though and offers real time tracking with speed etc. It is the one that I use and now it doesnt show up in the app drawer which is pretty cool.
I also like Pintail.
Got Mobile Defense. Works great, Thank you guys for the help. I will be sure to attach a copy of the assault and battery charges if anyone steals my phone. Now I can safely say "I wish a M-Fer would..."
SMS Commander and GPS Tracker are the best out. U can lock your phone with SMS Commander so the thieves can't look at your personal info plus you can receive a gps fix on the phone by sending it a text message.
With GPS Tracker you can send it a text to start GPS tracking and you can set it to update to as little as 5 second intervals so you can watch on a computer screen where your phone is every 5 seconds. Best of all..its FREEEEEE! (Not sure if SMS Commander is still free tho-I think the dev started charging for that app)
I hadn't come across Mobile Defense before reading this thread but I d/l'd it and testing it now..It seems like a really good app so far. Thanks xda'ers for putting me onto this app.
Mobile Defense is only available to people in the US (or with US Market).
GPS Tracker is now seriously useless for tracing stolen phones as it sends a notification every time it sends data to the server making it nice and obvious to thieves.
Any others available ?

mobile defense!
i wish a mofo-er would

ive been using mobile defense before it got popular.
but the text thing.... i also use sms checker. it will send you emails and text messages to a number of ur choice with the coordinates if the simcard was removed and replaced with another. the app where u text the safeword is phone finder.
If we are not in USA, is there any other programs that is like Mobile Defense?
I always have 2 concerns with this type of software
1) If the phone never goes on wireless or does not have a data plan, then mobile defense is useless
2) the sim checker software is good, and it does give you the sim card line no. which was changed thus you can call the person to get back your phone
Am I an idiot, or is there not an option on MobileDefense to remotely turn on GPS? Kinda hard to locate it within 13000 ft. Im all for mass ass kickins, but not EVERYONE deserves one
Activated mine with Mobile Defense, but when trying to connect from the web site it fails. I got two SMS messages and the MobileDefense service is running. Could it be because I am using cyan's rom with enhanced mms?

You have to keep "Enable GPS Satellites" turned on in the settings.

I've been having the same problem, it takes like 3 tries at 3 mins each but I haven't found a fix yet.
Anyone else use this navigation software ?
I used it on my Hero without any major problems. It took them an age to get a Froyo version sorted out. Put it on my Nexus One. Its now an excellent example of how to write totally non functional code! I am unable to download maps via the built in map downloader. A definite step backwards by ALK Technologies.
As for any kind of support, that's as useless as their software!
So, unless someone here call prove to me otherwise, stay well clear of this software. Take heed of the comments on the Market about it too.
Hmm works fine for me. You just need to turn on wifi before downloading maps through the app.
What exactly is the problem when you try?
My wifi is on permanently if i am at home or at the office. The maps never download. There is no indication they are downloading either, no progress bar at all. What phone are you running it on ? A Nexus One ?
Yeah a nexus one...
Once you pass all the setup screens and get into co-pilot (with no map), go menu get maps, or updates. Its one of those options. Then you'll see the progress bar.
For some reason or another the download is probably being interupted. Maybe you let your phone sleep and wifi turns off?
Ok will try it yet again. Thanks for the help.
CoPilot 8 .. utterly useless!!
Ok so today I tried to reinstall CoPilot 8 on my Nexus One.
This software is awful! Firstly I was unable to install the voice I wanted, just said File Error. Sorted that out by choosing a different voice. Then tried to download UK maps. Failed every time. Made sure Wifi did not go to sleep just to make sure.
Figured it was time to send emails of complaint to Head Office in the USA. Interestingly enough every single published contact email address for that company bounces... odd eh ? Have given up on CoPilot and doubt I will ever get my money back.
To every one else, think long and hard before you waste your money.
When you bought it through market you should have got a license/activation email from '[email protected]'
Send them an email and it'll automatically create a trouble ticket which they'll respond to.
I have lost count of the number of times I have "raised a ticket" with ALK. Interestingly the moment they reply (in any way, useful or not) they close the ticket. Pointless if the problem has not been resolved. They are very difficult to get in touch with (in a sensible way), perhaps this is deliberate? Given the very poor comments on the Market about this application I can understand their desire not to communicate with the many angry people who purchased this application and are unable to use it. I guess the next step is to send them a letter and if they still choose to do nothing I will pursue my refund through the UK small claims court system. Perhaps that will make them respond ? Its a shame because on my Hero the software worked reasonably well :-(
I've given up on that cr*p software
Works fine for me. My installation and setup process went very smooth.
Its great when it works properly. I had an issue with license keys after I had a N1 replaced and they sorted it out pretty quickly. If you reply to the email the ticket is re-opened.
Having said that i've seen many complaints on the net about them. If you bought it on a credit card just threaten to charge it back. That'll kick them into gear.
The pattern i've found is that anything 'easy' to fix they handle well, anything obscure or that might take some diagnosis or thought and they keep fobbing you off hoping you'll give up.
Luckily google market has a 24 hour refund period.. if you have problems in setup just hit the refund button. A bit late for you now tho i guess.

I am sorry you are having problems but it is not bad software. I was one of the REALLY early users and had to jump through substantial hoops to get maps installed. Once everything was running correctly though it has proven reliable and I have not had a problem since not related to me upgrading to an unsupported ROM.
Navigation is nice if you are in a well covered area for data but copilot has advantages in spottier areas. I use both depending on my mood and neither is crap.
Are there 2010 maps out for Copilot yet? I've run the latest auto update but I'm still getting 2009 ones .
It told me to turn into a wall yesterday
Could not disagree with you more, I have had a few problems with downloads and activations (I am a frequent rom swapper), and each time theyre customer support was prompt and courteous. Performing account resets or offering advice about side loading maps downloaded using the copilot desktop software (which downloads MUCH faster FYI).
But the real kicker is go off cell grid some time (like camping which i do alot). Google maps will fail on you as it requires constant connection to reload a map if you leave the map screen at any time, Copilot stores maps on the SD card allowing me to find that odd rural route to the highway and re-enable Google maps with all my layers. Its a real life saver off the grid.
I never had any issues with moving to Co-Pilot on the Nexus One (had it installed previously on my Hero). The only gripe I have with the software is that it doesn't disable the onboard speaker when routing audio to bluetooth end up with a echo, raised a ticket.. who knows if it will be fixed.
I've been using a modified 800x600 version of MotoNav that actually works very very well. I think it was yanked out of *gasp* a motorola.
The reg uses one of those 876x600 or something resolutions which will run but will cut off the bottom.
Hi,
So, I have the GPS enabled and I can verify this using Maps where I see the GPS icon appear in the top.
However when I take a picture with the camera, I see no GPS icon and the coordinates saved in the picture are waaay off so i'ts definately not using the GPS. The "Use GPS" option in the camera software is of course enabled...
What can I do?
EDIT: Well after searching in other forums I realize that this isnt an Incredible bug, but a general HTC / Android bug. Seems it requires a software update . This suck...

Really? Hm and did you check the validity of your coordinates? Are they valid? I'm on Android 2.2.1 with no modifications...

simple, turn on your navi/map app
check the coord with the one in your picture info.
maybe you didn't wait for a while to take a picture?
keep it a habit to wait for 1-2 minute(more if you didn't enable mobile data) for the GPS to lock on your location.
for example, if you're on WiFi, the GPS lock very very fast.
and using mobile data would be slower.
and without assisted-gps(no data or WiFi), it would take about 15min for the GPS to lock on your location.
so just make sure to wait the appropriate time after you arrive somewhere to took picture
to make sure your phone have locked you location, turn on maps app, then let it lock your location, then only you fire up your camera app and take picture.

I know how to verify it. I asked if you can verify YOUR gps data. That is, take a picture and check that the dot in maps is actually where you stand...The thing is, my camera also saves geotags in every image. But they are way off. Probably up to 300 meters at best, i.e. it is not using the GPS but mobile network.

Yes the pictures I took was done that way. Waited until Maps got a GPS lock. Then I pressed the "Home" button to get to my Camera app. However doing so also meant that the GPS icon at the top dissapeared. Anyways, then I opened the Camera and took a photo. The resulting coordinates are off by 1-2 miles (i.e. it used the Mobile network to pinpoint my location and not the GPS).
Any advices?

errmm..I don't know if that's the case then,
and yes, I did verify all my picture, well some of it were off by few miles/km (even my house coord) since i took the picture on my bike(to capture a rarely seen Ferrari on the road), and some accident picture also on my bike.. so i didn't wait for the gps to lock.
My Google Maps timeline is not recorded correctly. If I visit six places
during a day, maybe only three places are recorded on my timeline.
Also, the time I spent in each place is not correct either. I've tried all
settings, to no avail. It's perhaps not the end of the world, but I use
the data from the timeline in my travel bills, so it's very annoying.
Anyone experiencing the same, or similar abominations? What
could be wrong? Any settings I've missed? Is it a regional thing?
Is there a way to force the GPS to be used more frequently?
Any input would be much appreciated....
Looking at my Timeline, it seems to be about the same as my old phone. (ie - a bit weird and spotty)
But - you could try locking Maps in memory from the multitasking screen and see if that helps?
Thanks.
I'll try it out, although it shouldn't really be necessary....?
My previous phone (Nexus 6) wasn't spotless either
but this starts to look like some kind of bad joke.
Today I visited 4 places, but none of them was
recorded. Only the travel (car) was recorded.
Any more suggestions....anyone...?

Update; unfortunately, it didn't help.
It seems that the GPS is very little used, when
looking at the battery use history. I use the "high
precision" setting, so I don't know what to try next.
Anyone have any more suggestions...?
I have the same problem on my Redmi 9 Pro. Didn't find any solution yet.
My workaround is using http://gpslogger.app and letting it locate once per minute and upload the data to my Google drive. Thus location timeline becomes reasonable accurate.
