Hey all
My kindle Fire HD 8.9 is stuck in demo mode.
Please tell me their is an idiots guide to Flashing it back or any bloody operating system cos im tearing my hear out with it..
I can do ANYTHING on the actual Unit itself the demo mode has it completely locked down Its basicaly just a slide show you cant do anything..
I have a factory cable and im not an idiot I could really use a step by step guide does anyone know of one?
Please help guys or its getting thrown of the window lol.
Use a normal cable, and run "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" while the device is powered off and not plugged in, then once the command prompt says waiting for device, plug you kindle in, it should boot into fastboot, from there I believe you can use kindle fire first aid to restore it to a normal amazon os. If once in fastboot you have issues with drivers, try using the ones in my signature.

Hi Stunts,
Thank you very much indeed for your reply and for trying to help me
I wonder if you could dumb that down a little bit more for me.
Im assuming the command you gave me is to be used with abd ?
But I cant seem to get it to work... I downloaded the Dev kit from android and whenever I click on what im assuming is the ABD exe it just does nothing
I need a little more hand holding lol
Much appreciated though buddy.
Noodles.
OK you can't just click that, its a command line program. Do you know how to use the windows command prompt?

Yeah I remember vaguely from years ago.
Also use dosbox sometimes so i get the general gist of it yeah.
ok so basically you need to open a command prompt, and cd into the directory fastboot and adb are in, if you don't have fastboot in the same folder as adb in your android sdk, u probably have to update it first, or just get on of the utilities from the forum that comes with it. anyways once you cd into that directory, unplug your kindle, and turn it off then run this command in command prompt: fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
now after it says waiting for device, plug your kindle in, i believe it will automatically power on, if it doesn't then hit the power button, it should boot into fastboot mode. From there you can use the kindle fire first aid program to flash the stock rom onto it. Kindle fire first aid is in the 7" general forum (they really should rename it, its more like kindle second generation general forum). I would post a link but i'm on my pc, yea i know that sounds weird but its much more of a pain to do that on my pc when i have as much junk up on it right now as i do, maybe i'll edit the post in a few from my kindle, i'm trying to mod the systemui and framework...

Hi stunts,
Thanks again for another reply
Ive managed to get in to adb and used the command u gave me.
It says waiting for device so i plugged the kindle in (powered off) The kindle turns itself on and just goes straight to demo mode CMD sits and waiting for device
The kindle always seems to install itself on my computer as a portable media device is this a problem?
I did down load the USB drivers in your signature and tried to update to them but the system says they are up to date.
I also tried to uninstall the kindle and reinstall it with your drivers and it still goes to the one windows already has for it.
Well that's odd, that should have worked on a 8.9 inch model, um I don't think fastboot cables work on 8.9 inch models, but that command should work when used like that. A few months ago I found a thread just like yours, I'd have to do some digging to find it. I will see if I can find it.
Edit: found it, you shouldn't need a fastboot cable if its a 8.9" model, read through the entire thread it may have some insights for you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096555

They found a solution' did you read the second page, more than one person was able to do it, using different methods. This is a weird round about method but you could look into it, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39133145

Don't waste your time with this suggestion. You will need kindlefirefirstaide. There is an option to restore it to stock. You will need to modify the batch file to fix the Dropbox links. All the info you need is in the kffa thread.
Bought a Demo'd Fire HD 6 from Radio Shack during their "Going Out of Business Sale". After tons and tons and tons of reading, and attempting to reflash the boot, I just ./adb reboot recovery, and the Fire wiped clean. Performed a full factory recovery install, and proceeded to register it with Amazon. I have no intention of installing any custom ROMs on it, so now I have a fully functioning Fire for $30.
To get rid of demo mode Amazon Fire phone
You can just hold volume up and power while device is off then toggle to wipe data factory reset and demo mode will be gone
I have Kindle Fire HD 7 - 11.3.1.0
I am an adb users. I know how to use it. If that helps. My problem is that I cannot get the device to boot into fastboot. I run the command adb devices and it sees my device.. I reboot it, shell, etc. But when I run the "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" command it stays on wait for device. I am using the factory cable that came with the device. It is new. I have run out of ideas... I start with a powered off device (adb is enabled in the settings).. I run the command on the command line.. its now sitting on waiting for device....I plug in the cable .. it powers up.. but just boots. I was able to root the device.. but will NOT boot to fast boot...
Please let me know if I am missing something..
Thanks

It will not boot into FASTBOOT..oh well

If its rooted run this
Code:
adb shell "su -c 'reboot bootloader'"
What exactly are you trying to achieve with fastboot, that's a 2013 HD, we only have root access so I don't know what you want to use fastboot for.

Woooo, slow down. You have the 2013 Kindle Fire HD 7 and there are no exploit for the bootloader yet. You're gonna brick your tablet. That exploit is for the 2012 Kindle Fire HD 7 only. Stop now and know there is only root available for your tablet at the moment.
Hi.
I've got the same problem - but got 2012 device ( no. D059, camera on left (or right/down/up if you like ) side of screen )
I use typical usb cable, got root acces, adb see my device. But when I plug after typing "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" its normally booted up to system
any advices?

Woa there don't attempt that. 2013 kindle fire hd's aren't supposed to run a 7.x.x os, that's the version used on the previous years, your is supposed to be 11.x.x.

anybody?
I look for factory cable, but in Poland it is unavailable anywhere is there possibility to do something with normal usb cable?
"adb reboot bootloader", also what are you attempting to do with fastboot, just wanna make sure you aren't trying to downgrade to an os not meant for your device (aka anything besides 11.x.x is not meant for your device and will brick it).

I want to flash custom rom.
Read my first post in this thread - my Kindle is 2012 device.
But problem is same that adkg12's so I post here, altough write new one
Eh I would just use the fireflash method as it doesn't require fastboot access, though if you don't see the checkbox next to the red text and leave it unchecked your kindle will have a red screen that only a fastboot cable can fix. Might be less dangerous for you to just use the method you are using then, as long as you check everything's md5sum then its a lot safer for you since you can't get your bands on a fastboot cable.

I just bougt a Kindle fire hd 7", after flashing the 2nd bootloader i get bootloop (forget to check the stack override) but i don't have the backup because i couldn't go in fastboot.
There's a solution for this problem, i'm very anxious.
Thanks for the help and sorry for my bad english.

First thing is to download the SDK package and set the environment up. Here is a great video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaNM-lt_aHw This will allow you to use fastboot command which is what you will do to push the images you need onto the bootloader.
To make sure your computer issue fastboot commands, open up a comand prompt as an administrator and type "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" with no quotes and it should return Tate-xxx-xxx. If you don't get that response, do not move forward.
Once your at this point, download this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254 and either use it per the instructions or extract the files and CD from inside the folder and manually flash the 3 images via fastboot issuing these commands
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot "image name here" include .img at end
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery "recovery name here" include .img at end
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash system "system image name here" include .img at end
Now give some time as the system image is quite large
when done, type fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
Profit

Never, i get bootloop before turning.
I'll be honest I was a complete book at this first I couldn't use fast boot to save my life what so ever, I found a way where I didn't need to use fast boot commands and it was noob proof, quick question do you by any chance have a fast boot cable?
If so I'll be able to help you save your Kindle Fire

I don't have a fastboot-factory cable beacause the shipping time is very long and i'm worried about the customs.
Anyone knows a place that send this cable in europe quickly?
EDIT: Jserrano56, your method requires a factory cable, too?
@HylianHero
Europe...? Dude I got mine from eBay and it was here in 3 days, you'll need one no matter what, without it you have a brick, a paper weight, it's practically useless
Long shot, but maybe a final resort without a fastboot cable?

You tried reflashing the bootloader? If you haven't then try that, but please remember to verify the bootloaders md5sum before flashing it or your kindle could end up worse off(it wouldn't power on).

I'm going to throw my kindle.... I just typed a very lengthy description and then a stupid tapatalk notification came up right next to the post button as I was hitting it and cleared my entire post... Anyways i thought at first that was a signature but if this kindle is indeed a 2013 model then your first problem was attempting to isntall 2nd bootloader and a custom rom, becuase thats not possible on the 2013 model, also would explain why srt and kffa wouldnt work, their images are incompatible, so before i post any further instructions, please tell me whether i am correct because if its a 2013 model i think i can help you fix it thanks to someone posting the images recently but you are going to have to manually fix this, not too difficult.

im being told in another thread in xda it is indeed a 2013 model they our also saying to me about finding the images http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888&page=325
Someone just posted the images today if I remember correctly, think he was going to verify their md5sum or something first so I might wait. This is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2650596
I would wait till they confirm they are all good before using them but I doubt it would make the device any worse since it isn't flashing the bootloader or anything, just the boot and system partitions mainly. I might modify the SRT script to use the new images and post my own SRT to help out. I'm in the midsts of debugging a ROM I'm working in so I'll only do it if I have some time free( like when I have questions to ask and there's no devs available to question). Might even tweak his script a bit, not sure how it works but I may add a md5sum checker to double check that the images didn't corrupt if it doesn't have one in it, I know nothing is more annoying than flashing your device back and getting a error from fastboot about size mismatch or something.

i have the images how would I now apply them to the kindle I take it it will be with fast boot but how to apply them to get this kindle running again
Something like putting it in fastboot and open a command prompt, now here's to hoping you have basic command line experience. I would recommend putting the images you downloaded into for instance the same folded as the fastboot command in SRT, or if you have another fastboot command that is fine as well. Idk if SRT defaultly put its images in the same folder as fastboot, but if it did feel free to deleted them to avoid confusion. Anyways for the commands, CD into the directory containing the fastboot commands that you placed your images in. Now I believe this is what you want to run:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot stock-boot.IMG
Fastboot -i 0x1949 flash system stock-system.IMG
Fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery stock-recovery.IMG
Note that I am not positive on the file names but if it was incorrect just change the name in the command of the IMG file as it needs be. Wouldn't recommend flashing the bootloader unless you have to, bad bootloader flashes result in hard bricks so I avoid flashing it unless absolutely necessary, and also note boot is not bootloader, boot is the kernel+intramfs. Also don't flash the boot0block image at all. That contains that persons serial number, Mac address and other info, idk why he put it in there, its kinda personal.

im running cmd with fastboot now to flash the images my question is if you can help flashed stockboot image okay next stocksystem that has come back as failed fastboot is now flashing stock recovery but it just seems to be sitting there any ideas on how long the process should take not sure if something is up and not sure this gonna work if stock recovery failed any ideas worried about unplugging or turning it off.
Weird, recovery is rather small compared to the system image, I wonder why it was hanging. I normally don't advise on pulling during a fastboot flash, but what else can you do if its hanging... I would just attempt again. If all the images are in a zip check the CRC listed, and I don't know exactly how to do that offhand, think it depends on the program you use, think some list it in a column, I use Linux a lot and I haven't ever checked crc's, I usually go by md5sums. Sorry I can't be of much help other then say try again, this is kinda the only images we have as if yet and the kfhd2 is kinda new territory sorta so we have to see if we can get it working like we did on the previous one, really shouldn't be any learning to it since it is just a modified version of the kfhd7".

thanks for the advice ill see what happens ill keep going with it gotta suss in the end rooted a few tabs in the past got there with them in the end tanks for all you help so far
A while back I had rooted my kindle and it bricked. I bought a factory cable and used KFFA to restore it. Now it's stuck in a boot loop and isn't recognized by adb but will boot into fastboot mode. Is there anything I can do?
Edit: I can also boot it without the fastboot cable and it'll go right back into the boot loop.
I can't find KFFA, it looks like the link in the thread for it was dead. I'm not sure where to go from here. Though I remembered what happened last time and got it to recognize in fastboot
Note that this forum contains instructions for the original Kindle Fire. Try the Kindle Fire HD forums, as instructions here will surely brick your device.

A couple of questions:
1.) Are you unplugging the fastboot cable and plugging in a normal USB cable after the device is in fastboot mode?
2.) Is your fastboot cable home-made?

1.) Am I supposed to do that? Because I am not.
2.) No, I bought it off of Amazon.

Yeah, the fastboot cable is for putting the device into fastboot mode only. After you're in fastboot, you have to disconnect the factory cable and plug in a normal USB cable. Then your PC and device can communicate.
Also, you can't use ADB commands in fastboot mode. You have to use fastboot commands. For example:
fastboot -i 0x1949 devices
should give you an output of what's plugged in at the moment. From there, you can use KFFA to restore the device, or you can do it manually by flashing the images yourself.

If you are willing to wait a few days, I can post a link to it. Also, if you look in the development sub-forum, there's a software recovery tool for this purpose as well.

You can also use SRT if KFFA has any issues http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254 or flash manually with fastboot.

Thanks a ton,KFFA works but I'm having different issues now. I can't get wifi to turn on. It doesn't even act like I'm pressing the On button for the wifi and it defaulted to off.

Try using the tool again to restore it once more.

I did. Twice more actually using both options 1 and 2. Each time it kept doing it.

I also tried running the regular factory reset now and it's still not working. The stock Kindle setup won't even turn on the wifi

Hopefully you have a backup of the original boot, recovery, and system images. If so, this is what worked for me using the fastboot cable:
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot stock-boot.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery stock-recovery.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash system stock-system.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
Disconnect the cable immediately after issuing the reboot command in order to get a normal boot. From here you should be back in Kindle mode but still rooted with Fireflash app installed. Go to settings/apps and clear out Fireflash data and cache. Then re-run Fireflash to install the freedom boot loader, stack overide file and twrp recovery. Review Hashcodes install procedures again. This all got twrp recovery going again for me but if you want to flash a rom you must put it in the "0" sdcard folder for twrp to see it.

I have no backups whatsoever. It's been a long time. I honestly don't care if it's rooted anymore either. At this point I just want it to work. And I have no clue what half of what you said meant...
All I need is for it to connect to wifi, regardless of whether or not it's rooted. I ran KFFA again and chose option 2 again and still have the same problem. The wifi switch just flat out won't turn on.

Well, if you're rooted and can access ADB, try running these commands:
Code:
adb shell
su
svc wifi enable
See if that enables wireless.
I don't know if it works with Amazon's stock software, but it worked just now on my Kindle running CM11.

I'm not exactly sure how to run ADB, but I'm still running the stock software. adb shell works, but I get an error with 'su' and 'svc wifi enable' What it looks like it's doing is getting stuck turning the wifi on. When I first boot it up the wifi switch is lit up until I press 'ON' then it goes dark and sits there.

You run ADB from the command line or a terminal. If 'su' doesn't work, then that means that you're not rooted. The third command might only work if 'su' works, meaning it needs root privileges to work.

How could it not be rooted though? This was off of a fresh run of the tool. Anything I could do to fix it?
