I'm kinda shooting in the dark here....
I found my phone full and started deleting stuff, I knew that the gallery created preview files for my images, but I didn't know this preview files required so much space. I ended up deleting a preview folder of about 1GB twice.
I was wondering if anyone knows a tweak or hidden setting to increase the image compression for the previews. I'm fine if they look crappier, they're just previews afterall.
Cheers

Don't really see any settings for the gallery.. but you could try switching to a different gallery app like quickpic..

I followed your advice. I installed quickpic and disabled the Motorola gallery. I'll check back in a couple of days to see if there's an improvement.
Seems like QuickPic allows the pictures to be organized, so there's a plus aready

Hey guys, theres probably a thread somewhere about this but from years back but just couldnt find anything on it...anyways im trying to set wallpapers on my captivate to look nice and clear without seeing any pixels but having trouble because it stretches the pic. It causes it to zoom in and blur the and just doesnt look good. Ive tried all resolutions and still looks terrible. Is there a certain app or anything to fix this?
Thanx a lot!
If you are trying to set pics from the gallery the solution I use is justpictures from the market. Set the max resolution to high in the app settings. Much better than the crap samsung gallery as you can define folders, add facebook, picasa, photobucket, etc. as well.
If you are wanting a gallery app that is smooth as homemade vanilla ice cream and as fast as a Shelby Cobra, give this one a shot. Free @ the app market. You won't be disappointed!
It mops the floor with the stock Android gallery or any other gallery that I have tried.

I've been using Quickpic on my DX for some time now. It is my go to image app. Loads so much quicker than gallery. Good call!

Just do a search on the market for Quick Pic. You'll find it. The link you supplied takes me to a redirect back tomy isp's search page @ Roadrunner.com

I've been using this on my g tablet as well. The stock gallery just doesn't scan my images (tnt lite 314)

Just found this today. Much faster than the stock gallery, and for some reason lately my stock gallery doesn't load all my images :/
I have one question though, can we install this and delete the stock gallery? Will that interfere with anything? Cuz I don't use the stock camera or gallery. Camera360 and QuickPic are what i'm using for my photos.
camera360 (found on Amazon, not Android market) and QuickPic are both nice finds, thanks!
Pretty darn quick. I like it! Thanks for posting.
Anyone knows if you can stream pics from your CIFS/NTFS shared folder on your home server?
I've been using Quick Pic on my phone for a while now. And it's just as great on the tablet.
Hi, can QuickPic totally replace the Gallery?
I don't understand how more people are not frustrated by the fact that picture can't be renamed after taking a shot..?
I would like to be able to rename the pictures as soon sa I take them, and from stock camera I can see the picture taken, but I can't rename it. Can QuickPic be accessed from camera (review of pic - right bottom corner)?
Thanks, Cheers,
Nenad

I do know that after installing QuickPic, I went into File Explorer and navigated to my DCIM folder where my pics are stored and clicked on a .jpg file, then the box popped up asking me which app I wanted to open the file in, Gallery or QuickPic. I set the check mark to "Always use this selection" and then tapped on QuickPic and made it the default .jpg viewer. You will need to do this for each graphics format type; .png, .tif, etc.
I do not know about the camera preview because I am running CM7 at the moment on my tablet. Anyone whom has used CM7 knows the downfall of the camera quality and I try to steer clear of even using the camera with this rom.
You can do as I have stated above, setting the file associations, and see what your camera app uses for the preview when you take a pic with your tablet. Then report back to us and let us know if this, in fact, does actually replace the default preview app for photos from the camera app.
[EDIT] I have just confirmed that if you install QuickPic, when you take a shot with your camera app and tap on the preview selection, it does give you the option of setting QuickPic as the default preview app from the camera.
Nope.
I made a QuickPic a default app to preview Jpegs (and other formats), but the problem is stil there:
From Camera app, when I hit a "image viewer" button, it opens a Galery-like 1 picture screen (on back, the Camera app is shown for taking more pictures).
Is there a way to tweak Android to use QuickPic instead (like "Registry" in Win?)
Cheers
Loving this app
Great app, I've been using it for a while. Was really happy when I found it, the stock Gallery appy is garbage compared to this app.
The pics and icons load right away, instead of sitting there waiting for no reason.

I was using Serendipity 6.3 and now Darky 10.1 rom, and I never got the option to choose - it always shows the preview in stock gallery... Can I remove the it (the stock gallery)?
BTW - I just left a "review" at "App Brain":
The best gallery app (IMHO)! Let me put out the facts others didn't: I just love the "rename" option - one can take a look at the picture, and directly rename it if you want (when the picture is in full screen. It would be nice though if one could do the same from a thumbnail preview - with a long press menu - the option lacks there...). One more minor issue makes me have another picture viewer installed: - if you open a hidden (.name) picture from a folder that has more then one hidden pics, it will show this one, but will not show any oteher by sliding, as would for non-hidden pics. It would be nice to have an option "show/ hidden files", and if the option is on, it would show all the hidden pics, and if it is off, it would show none. If this issue was not present, I would have had just QuickPic installed of all the pic viewers! Once again - thanks for the best gallery app - please make it even better!
Anyone having issues with date sorting? Looking at the details of each photo, the date is right but QuickPic seems to put them in a different order
Hi all,
What I did is, I took a zoe photo, and then I moved the zoe photo by the spliting function to /Picture folder.
Afterthat I use the ES explorer to move back those 20photos+1video files to 100MEDIA folder. And now, I cannot see the moving zoe in the photo album, and it just shows the 3 sec. video.
How can I restore it back? Thanks a lot for helping.
Gary.

It is a little different. So click on the video and when it's playing click it again it will pause. You can then use the slider at the bottom to go through the frames. Once you find a frame you like you can go to menu and save the frame.

Thanks. However what I mean is now the album recongize it as a video clip instead of a zoe photo. So it cannot show it in a magic zoe style.
Anyway to solve it? Thanks.
You can't. Looked at the gallery sqlite database using sqlite editor. You can see there that Zoe photos are stored in there. Once a Zoe photo is removed the data get's deleted and when you return it back it doesn't recognize the zoe photo anymore because the deleted data in the database is totally gone.
I assume that the camera app creates that data in there everytime you take a photo and mediaserver removes it when it can't detect it anymore.

Thanks a lot. That means I've no way to resolve it back.
However, I think out a issue, for example, if we change to another New HTC one, we cannot just copy all files from the old phone to the new one with the zoe album keep alive in the new one.
Yes! Or maybe you can by backing up the data of the gallery and restore it back on a new device(Would require root though).
Also I have made this suggestion already on HTC about a month ago about the issues with Zoe, Gallery & dropbox but they ignored it. Seems like they didn't get enough response about the issue.
Has anyone noticed that when you save the 30second video highlight the quality is somewhat reduced?
Is there anyway to stop this?
To reproduce:
1. Play 30second video in events and note quality.
2. Save the video highlight and then view it..notice the reduced quality?
Nobody else noticed this?!
I noticed, it's because the preview was realtime, using assets like photos and video from the phone with some themes applied on top. So it's displayed at the best quality. But when it's being saved (rendered) as video file there's some compression applied. To me it's not that big of a deal, but i wish HTC gave us option for multiple compression quality
It basically looks like rerendering twice. Once when the vid is captured, another when Zoe is created.
Yeah it's such a shame as when exporting to dropbox etc to show people they just don't look good enough (imo)

it must have a preference or setting xml file somewhere you may can edit and improve, i guess
this is so disappointing, on the display it looks perfect, but once you want to save or share it, the quality goes drastically down
and also, the "select content" function is not working as it should
just received the reply from htc support.
what you should do is:
force stop camera app, clear data
boot into recovery
wipe cache partition
it did help me

I guess I don't see how this would help. Technically a 30 second clip of Video Highlight should be at least a hundred megs, not 12... I wish there was a way to turn off the compression when you save it.
What does clearing the data from the camera app and clearing cache do? The reason I ask is that ive flashed new ROMS, which would obviously have cleared data, and I clear my cache all the time when i fiddle with my ROMS. and the Zoe Video Highlight quality has always been diminished.
If someone could help, that'd be awesome.
hmm... no comments since august '13.
no workarounds found yet? It's an awesome feature, but the highlights are not worth sharing at that quality...
I downloaded few HD wallpapers of size 1080x1920 and 780x1280. Out of 32 pictures I transferred to the phone only few of them are coming to the gallery. Please help me with this problem if any one is facing the same thing. Why aren't they appearing in the gallery when all pics are of same resolution.

Swich to Quickpic. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder
If you looking for an album with widget use Gallery ICS (classic Version). Also check if the Wallpapers are in .JPG file.

Just to be sure. Is necessarily to check everything and the common format is JPG. I think with different Album will be fine.

You doing something wrong. Take all the pictures and move to another folder renamed like you like. If you don't see them again put the pictures to SD or Internal Memory directly without subfolders. The Album in Z1 is crap and he mess with all the pictures but try to scroll them all for Lockscreen Wellpaper after you move the pictures.

It will not be the same take now the attachments and test them because probably uploading here the pics are in low quality or in different format. So if you already did everything I suggest to convert 1 of the pictures, which you can't selected in Album, to another format, if they are JPG convert to PNG or vice-versa. Keep the resolution and the scale same as original 1080x1920. Try again.

Ok, I will post my lockscreen with one of those, but you should try to convert 1 picture anyway to see if the album recognize it, somewhere have be the problem.
Done. No problem. EDIT: ..for me.
